I told them that it might be leaking from the front main seal of the transmission (transmission fluid seen on bell housing). I asked if they could diagnose the stuck in 3rd gear issue and the stalling and how much the leak would cost to fix. They called me the next day and told me I needed a full transmission rebuild. Said it was stuck in 3rd gear because my transmission was shot and stalling because of leaks within the transmission. They also told me it was leaking out of the front main seal or pump seal. I had to pay them over $120 to "diagnose" these problems and they said it would be 3-4 thousand dollars to fix. Also the guy running the shop told me he has worked on trucks like mine for over 30 years. I later figured out that my trucks computer was bad and when I replaced it, it started shifting fine and no longer was stalling. I took it to TSI transmission in golden valley for the front main seal only to find out that it was just a bad pan gasket leak. $180 later I got no tranny leak. No shifting problems and no stalling. I almost got ripped off for 3,000 dollars. Do your own work and your own research. Can't trust many shops anymore.

It shouldn't have been that much or taken that long to diagnose a bad alternator, especially when half the troubleshooting was done and discussed by the customer.
