My youngest sister was her POA and caregiver, was never informed about the medications being stopped until 2 days before her death. Comfort meds should've been placed in the home THE DAY OF ADMISSION. The nurse didn't make her initial visit til days later. Your nurse asked my sister if she could take out her catheter because she was "too far". You were negligent in providing appropriate hospice care to our mom. The ball was dropped day after day with nurses scheduling a visit, then never showing up. Yes, I am very opinionated about hospice as I, too, was an Oncology nurse and Hospice nurse totaling 45 years experience. You will be hearing from my lawyer.

We were out of meds and other necessary supplies. I called three times and they kept saying someone would show but never did until she died. It was the most disorganized care I have ever witnessed and resulted in lack of comfort and compassion for my wife when she needed it most. The head of the hospice called me to apologize and said he would call back to follow up with an incident report and this ever happened either. The billing person who works with the insurance company was simply lazy and did not want to make any extra calls. It was from start to finish just a mess and I hope people that read this review think twice before using BJC Hospice. Please choose a smaller company that actually care!

Hospice Care isn't really care from the company itself, it basically manages the medications to be prescribed and that is all. My in-home nurse care by Rhonda was AMAZING and she went above and beyond her call. She was the shining point of this entire establishment. Nurses were sporactic in their visits, which can happen, but at the time of death approaching, when I needed a nurse present the most, CRICKETS!!! And when she finally arrived after my mother passed, she actually had me and my niece (my mother's granddaughter) help her turn my mother after watching her try to push any remaining fluids from within her body!! If not watching my mother struggle to breath, see her foaming at the mouth and not knowing if I was administering the meds given appropriately or enough to ensure she was not suffering was irrevocably NOT ACCEPTABLE! If it wasn't for her caregiver, Rhonda, who helped bath her and dress her with love, shared genuine conversation and brought presence of peace, I would have only given given 1 star! She deserves 5 stars, but I am reviewing the company. I experienced a similar experience when my father passed from hospice as well. I am not ever sure why these companies exist except is a final way to get their money or the money of their loved ones. Hospice should be about keeping the patient comfortable, keeping up with their mental struggles of approaching death, showing compassion above all else. Seasons is missing the mark. She been in there care 4 days and didn't get no medicine from them. I had to call 4 times and on that 4 call that person got a cussing that you wouldn't believe. So if you care for your family members don't use CARIS.

Let me start off by saying this is the first negative review I have ever written in my life. I have…read moreworked with many Hospice Companies for over 20 years during my career in the Senior Housing Industry as well as my own personal family end of life events. I recently have experience working with Caris as my loved one was put on hospice originally to help with the loved ones anxiety. Within a few weeks after my loved one had been approved for hospice with Charis, my loved one started to decline and was then assessed to continue on Hospice as an end of life service. At the beginning, the family member that had POA for healthcare had requested that medication be adjusted so the love one would be more alert during the day. As the loved one declined and they put her on end of life service, the medication that helped with the loved ones severe anxiety was discontinued. When I asked how this anxiety would be controlled, I was told that they would take care of it. After the change, My loved one became more anxious and agitated. She would moan, cry for help, and try to get out of bed on her own. It was clear that our loved one was very uncomfortable and in distress. When questioned again about the medication, the nurse became defensive and started accusing the family's decision to try to keep the loved one more alert which was before the end of life process had begun. The nurse would say, yes I hear her moaning and crying out, she does that all the time. That night, our loved one got out of bed, fell, cut her head and received a gash in her leg. After that, the following day, medication was finally addressed. Our loved one finally got the peace and dignity she deserved. Hospice workers should be trained to put the care of the patient first while educating family members on what should be done and why changes are important for their loved one to not suffer. Our loved one suffered for days because this simple rule was not followed . No family member should ever have to see their loved one's life end in this manner. After finally getting the peace and dignity our loved one deserved, end of life came. After the death, The misinformation continued. The cause of death was given by the medical director of Caris as dementia. Our loved one had never been tested for dementia, diagnosed with dementia, or shown signs of dementia. Being certified by the state to conduct assessments to find right placement for individuals and running Memory Care communities for years, I believe I would have recognized the signs. No, I will not use Caris or recommend Caris for end of life services to anyone.

With that being…read moresaid, he was placed on comfort care at the hospital on the 26th with the understanding that he would be transfered home ASAP. We were told the soonest a nurse from hospice could get to the hospital for my mother to sign legals would be the 27th at 1pm. Thursday morning all hospital equipment was delivered to my parents home at approx 10am. My mother was given a prescription card from hospice and was told to just give this card to the pharmacy when you pick up comfort meds, hospice covers the cost. Fast forward to 5pm Thursday evening, ambulance finally arrives for transfer. Now it is approx 45min-1hr between hospital and my parents home and about 7 hours have passed since my mother received the prescription card. However when she arrived at pharmacy to get medications, she was told that dad was not showing up as being on ssm hospice services. She just went ahead and paid for medication and came home. I will add that the admitting nurse that came to the house shortly after we got home and the nurse that saw dad on Friday and Saturday were very good. Dad subsequently passed around 3:30am. Hospice was notified and a nurse came to the house, supposedly made all necessary notifications. August 6th family went to funeral home and made all arrangements. On Monday August 8th at 4pm I receive a call from my sister that there is a police officer at my mother's house asking a bunch of questions regarding my dad's death...what!? Of course she is beside her self having a meltdown! Upon arrival the detective/CORONER explains to me that dad's death certificate came across his desk to be signed and he had no prior notification of this death. He was there to investigate that this was natural causes not a murder! seriously a week later!! Please if you have read this whole review, save yourself and your family a whole lotta headache and choose a different hospice provider.
