The adoption fee included three cans of grain free food, a car seatbelt, collar, leash and a single dosage of heartworm medication. Stacy gave us an accurate description of Dana's personality and was spot on. We received Dana's medical records including dental and her microchip information. Stacy, thank you so much for the love and dedication you pour into your rescue efforts. Because of you, Dana is now in her forever home. We can't thank you enough for bringing her into our life. She is taking lots of walks, enjoys her car rides and she even is friendly with the little pomeranian next door. For context I've worked extensively with both cats and dogs through various non profits and rescues, I'm an experienced dog trainer, I work fully remote, I've had various past pets that have made it beyond their normal lifespan, and own a size-able fenced backyard. I filled out an application interested in meeting and potentially adopting a dog from them. 2 or 3 felt like a good fit. I filled out the extensive application and called 2 hours later following up to show my interest and to make sure it was received, I also wanted to make a small donation as I love non-profits rescues like this. I went into this trying to be as polite as possible to make a good impression. A man answered extremely annoyed told me "your problem is reviews take 48 hours, Have some patience and wait." And hung up on me. I felt a bit caught off guard but assumed maybe they had a lot going on. When I checked my email they had responded to me within those 2 hours and told me "The pet you're interested in already has to many applications. There's plenty of other great pets on Petfinder, good luck!". The dog in question was listed 5 hours earlier in the day and They ignored my interest in their other dogs entirely and essentially told me to kick rocks and try the internet. The whole experience kinda soured me on this place and the fact they didn't even consider my interest in one of the other dogs feels counter productive to the entire point of getting these pups homes. I know the reaction probably stemmed from stress and outside factors but still don't think I should be talked to like dirt and dismissed for reaching out. I'm sure there's a lot of good people here but they gotta work on their out reach and how they place these dogs. This morning I was willing to drive up, meet their pups to see who's a good fit for my family, and pitch in a donation to help out. Now I'm not even sure how sincere they are about their mission statement.

I suggest registering your pet on-line before coming to avoid the charge. This place has little offices. You have to go to one to check in. The steps are written on a board. You first put your inf. On a computer. You then fill out a form that you take to the vet. The place is clean and the staff helpful and nice. The second office next door, is where the veterans and the assistants are. They are not as friendly. That area has a vending machine. if you want snacks while you wait. The wait time here is not so long. This is the area you pay. You can buy additional things for your pet like pet care things. Flea and ticks medications are sold here at a good price. You can get a chip for your pet here also. The place had plenty of parking around. The area I needed to go was easy to find. The price was good for what I came for. I am glad a place like this is near me.

The space here is huge and very clean and organized. The staff here is nice and very helpful. We decided to stop by and check out the dogs available for adoption. We also found out recently that you can foster pets at the Humane Society and receive service hours for school. I believe it's five hours per day you have a pet. Very cool incentive to foster pets and get service hours as well. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. You can check in at the front desk for information on adoption, fostering, or any other information needed. Len who is a volunteer sitting at the left corner info area helped us find the kennels to check out the dogs available for adoption. You walk through the retail store that sells pet gifts, toys, apparel, hats, pet supplies, and more. The kennels are located on the left side of the retail store and there are two main areas where you can walk down the aisles and check out the pets. You have been warned, but it will break your heart to see these dogs just sitting there waiting to be adopted. They literally look at you with sad puppy eyes and are hopeful. Someone will take them home. It's heartbreaking because you hope they all get adopted, but of course that's not always the case. As we were going through the kennels, my daughter and I both started tearing up as we sell more and more dogs and or checking out their info sheets with their names and stats. At the end of the day if you want a new pet, it's better to adopt at the Humane Society then buy at a pet store so that's the first step. We saw a puppy we wanted to play with in one of the rooms. They guided us to go back to the front to make this request. Len helped us again and he was so nice. He informed us we had to scan a QR code and fill out a questionnaire and submit accordingly. They only give out a certain amount of tickets per day to see the pets. Luckily they had two tickets left, and we snagged one of them. They guided us to any of the rooms located past the retail area and D'Angelo brought Sasha to us. We got about 5-10 minutes in the room to get acquainted with Sasha. She was very sweet and so happy to play with us. It was hard not to take her home right on the spot. But this had to be a family decision with everyone present. We had to say bye to Sasha and went back to the front desk area. Karen at the main front desk, helped answer some questions regarding fostering. She was also very helpful and gave us detailed information about Sasha. The fostering pets are different from the adoption pets. We were going to go online to get more details and go from there.

They're scattered everywhere in the house in different areas of the house and outside. The lights are off, but the air conditioning and the fans remain on closely have doggy doors. They call them that they're they can go in and out of the house that will, and in the backyard there's a fence very high fence. They never leave ever..Would you leave if you got 247 food? A place to stay to lay your head? The cat's and kittens are very well supported and provided for. But this is a rescue and it's All volunteer.

You sign in at the front desk and then freely roam to look at animals. I didn't explore the dog areas, but there are several areas of cats, separated by fosters, kittens fresh from getting spayed/neutered, and older cats. Beware: you will want to take all of them home. There wasn't that many people there when I went, so I was able to spend a lot of time getting to know the kitties. I fell in love with a little tortie, but was worried when I saw that she had enlarged mammary glands (her lil tummy was shaved from her recent spaying). A worker in the cat room went above and beyond to help. She explained that the cat had probably recently had a litter and her milk hadn't dried up yet. But, just to make sure, without me even asking, she took the kitty back to get examined by their doctor. After confirming what I had been told, I scooped up that lil girl and adopted her ASAP. The adoption process was easy. Just a head's up: if the address on your ID is different than your current address, bring another thing with your current address on it (I used my car registration). When I went, the shelter had a promotion going on, sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation, so the adoption was free. Plus spaying/neutering, Broward County pet registration tag, microchip, and all necessary vaccinations​​​​ are always included here when you adopt. I also got a cute "Gotcha Day" certificate and a free cardboard "cat-eau" :D Overall, I had a great experience adopting a new kitty from Broward County Animal Care and highly recommend that you check them out if you're looking for a new animal baby :)

Sketchy place and the worst people, so cold and heartless…read more We came in looking for our lost cat. On the first attempt, they were closed because of a meeting, so we couldn't talk to anyone. The security guard told us to come back another day through the closed gate and mentioned there's a lost pet binder. On our second visit, we parked in front and lost and found, and there was a sign saying to stay in your car. After we arrived, there was a couple who found a tiny orange kitten and tried to surrender it, so they got out of the car. The security guard yelled at them to get back in the car. They asked why, and he snapped, "Can't you read the sign" while pointing to it. They asked why again, and he didn't answer, but just ignored them. We waited for the lady to come to our car window. She asked if our cat was ours or a community cat, when we lost him, and what he looked like. We said he was a tabby, and she rolled her eyes, saying the majority are tabbies and we're probably not going to find him. We asked to come in and look, and she said no. We asked how long they keep the animals. She said usually 24 hours, even though they're supposed to keep them for 72 hours, they usually don't. We asked why. She said too many. I asked what happens to them. She said they take the address where they're found when they come in, and they release them to the same address. To me, that seems unbelievable if someone is bringing in a stray cat or lost pet, that they would just put them back out on the street. What's the point? I asked if they euthanize animals. That's when she said yes, in those 24-72 hours, if the animal is sick or can't be saved, they will put them down. I asked how it's determined, and she didn't say. We asked again to try to find our cat, and she said there's no point. I asked about the binder with pictures that the security guard told us about the first time around. She didn't want to let us see. She said the pictures are tiny and hard to see, and that it's a huge binder. We said we drove all this way that we wanted to see. She said they distribute the pets to various animal control facilities, so he could be anywhere. We insisted, so she brought the binder to the car. We did not find JJ. The security guard just grabbed the binder back from us and didn't say a word. The main lady was rude to the couple with the orange kitten. We left before we saw the outcome, but it looked like she refused to take it and gave them a pamphlet. They're better off taking it to the humane society. There was a 3rd employee in a grey shirt, along with the lady in the blue shirt and the security guard. They all made faces, rolled eyes, used huge gestures, and had terrible attitudes. I'm not sure what their problems are, but they shouldn't be working in customer service, let alone a tough job like this one that requires sensitivity. The whole thing was really shady.

2 weeks ago I brought in a feral mother for the $75 T&R; no problems there. The following week an…read moreelderly neighbor asked if I could take care of 4 kittens ANOTHER feral mother had. I contacted Sage and explained to "Michelle" that I'd like to foster these 4 kittens, which was approved, but was asked, "what about the mother?" I explained I had just brought another cat in and as much as I'd like to spay every feral mother cat in the neighborhood I'm unemployed and do not have the funds to do so. Michelle said, "WE'LL COVER THE COSTS" giving me a long rehearsed speech on why it's important. I replied, "Wow, I didn't know that's an option!" During the call, I verified THREE times that Sage would pick up the $75 cost, and every time Michelle said yes. At the end of the call, I said, "Of course I take you at your word here, but can you please send that in an email in case you aren't around when I bring in the mother cat?" "Sure!" she said...but in the long form email she sent, she failed to mention covering the costs of the T&R. Fast-forward to yesterday when I actually brought in the feral cat; when I mentioned the T&R was covered, the elderly woman at the desk looked at me and said, "We don't do that". I relayed the earlier conversation with Michelle and asked if she could verify, and she said she would...LATER, so I didn't think anything of it. When I came to collect the cat later that day, that same elderly woman was extremely RUDE to me, saying, "Michelle never said we would cover the costs. But if that's how YOU remember it, we'll waive the fee. But we hope you'll donate to offset the costs". I looked her straight in the eye and said, "I have absolutely no reason to lie to you". Then SHE started getting belligerent with ME; saying "I'm just the messenger, blah blah blah". At the end of the exchange, I thanked her for bringing out the cat and left. I was in NO WAY "disrespectful" to the staff, despite that woman disrespecting ME. And I now understand WHY Michelle lied and never sent the email; she either over-promised in the moment or thought she would simply blame me for the "misunderstanding" just to get the spay done. Michelle then sent a group text reminding everyone never to "disrespect" the staff (i.e. question her...EVER). When I tried to resolve this offline through text, Michelle ended up calling me a "complete jerk" (see: screenshot). Very professional. No one should trust Michelle at this point and will no longer be fostering with this org. Approach with caution and get EVERYTHING in writing/email.

Modeled after POWARS, the Pet Project was founded to help clients living with HIV/AIDS in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Its mission was to ease the financial burden and health challenges that sometimes force people to give up their beloved pets. In 2007, the organization expanded its eligibility to serve a broader population, including terminally ill, elderly, and disabled residents. In 2013, it acquired a larger, permanent facility that houses its operations alongside Hidden Treasures, a volunteer-run thrift store whose proceeds directly support the nonprofit's programs. The Pet Project provides thousands of pounds of free pet food and supplies each month, along with reduced-cost veterinary care, helping people with limited financial resources or those who are homebound continue caring for their four pawed family members. They also offer short-term foster care and dog-walking assistance for owners who need extra help. They also pledge to find new homes for pets in their program if their owners pass away, providing peace of mind to people who worry about what will happen to their beloved companions. To help fund these programs, the organization operates Hidden Treasures, a thrift shop staffed by volunteers, with all proceeds going toward The Pet Project's mission. I was recently in the area and decided to stop by Hidden Treasures. The last time I visited, several years ago, there was an unpleasant smell that drove me out pretty quickly. I'm happy to report that this is no longer an issue, and the shopping experience has improved considerably.
