This vet is incompetent and must retire in order to spare other families of the pain and heartache he inflicted through a complete misdiagnosis. Our cat Chester was attacked by another animal. Dr. Baumwell stapled him together and prescribed medication. Two days later, Chester was lethargic and would not come out from under the bed and would neither eat nor drink. I took him back to Dr. Baumwell who prescribed morphine but said no x-rays or other tests were needed. The very next day we had to take Chester to an emergency vet clinic where we were told he was dehydrated and going through renal failure. We were told he may not make it through the night. I picked him up the next morning and was told his condition was guarded and I should take him back to his vet. I did and I informed the staff there of the diagnosis.
That day, my wife and I traveled to Orlando where she was to have surgery the next day (a Tuesday). Late that afternoon, we spoke with Dr. Baumwell who said he could release Chester to my 15 year old daughter and my 80 year old mother-in-law. We returned on Wednesday to find Chester in terrible shape. I rushed him to the clinic where another vet saw him. She pointed out that the staple procedure used by Baumwell would do nothing to repair his coat and she would have to research to find out what was wrong with Chester. Chester's urethra was damaged and he was urinating under the skin of his leg. The vet told my wife there was nothing they could do for Chester at their clinic and suggested we take him to another hospital facility better equipped to handle his case. When my wife picked up Chester, Baumwell spoke to her in the lobby and said he "was really sorry about Chester." No apologies for his incompetence or acknowledgment of his error. My wife took Chester to an animal hospital. The vet and his staff there worked for days to repair the damage inflicted on Chester by the attack further prolonged by Dr. Baumwell. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, Chester was released from his suffering three weeks to the day of his attack. The heartache and suffering caused by this "veterinarian" is inexcusable. Do NOT allow him to care for your pet. read more
