I'm extremely disappointed with our experience and feel other dog owners should be aware. We brought our healthy toy Cavapoo in for grooming after calling ahead about timing. I was told it would take about 1-2 hours, so I planned my day around that. After waiting the full time, I had to call them because no one contacted me, only to be told I'd need to wait another hour on top of what I was originally told. The lack of communication and misleading time estimate was frustrating and unprofessional. The bigger issues came after. Shortly after the visit, my dog developed kennel cough and was sick for nearly three weeks -- coughing, uncomfortable, and clearly miserable. She had not been around other dogs prior to this appointment. We also noticed immediate coat damage. Her fur texture changed completely -- it became rough, wiry, and dry instead of soft like it had always been. The coat was also discolored only at the tips while the roots remained normal, which points to product or heat damage during grooming. This was not a gradual genetic change; it happened right after her appointment. So in one visit we experienced: * Poor communication and inaccurate timing * A dog that became sick * Visible coat damage that will take months to grow out We trusted this place with our dog's health and deeply regret it. Karla, You are incorrect. You declined the $50 credit when I tried to apply it to a grooming session. You are outright LYING. To make it right you would need to refund me that money that you overcharged me and not DEMAND that it be applied to a service I was not intending to re-book. In addition, the dog's ear was not "nicked", it was SLICED and the vet was unable to rectify the situation without anesthesia due to the pain my dog had when trying to remove the hair from the laceration. I understand you trying to minimize this to not look bad to other dog owners, but in my 30 years of owning dogs and bringing them to groomers, this has NEVER happened to me and I have never been robbed of my money like this. read more

I had a 1:00 appt for my dog grooming (bath and haircut). I dropped my dog off at 12:45. My dog gets very anxious when at the Dr or groomer. I was told it would be about 2 hours. I returned at 3:20 and was told that my dog had just been bathed and it would be an additional 2 hours!! And instead of being apologetic they tried to blame the holidays and said they were busy! Oceanside Pet Spaw is directly responsible for the tragic death of my dog, Hershey, and the way they have handled this situation is absolutely appalling. If they were truly saddened by his passing, why did it take a full week for them to respond to my review with inaccurate and misleading information? The cameras clearly show that at 9:19 AM, the person who was bathing and drying my dog casually walked him to the front of the grooming area, placing him on the floor knowing he was already unconscious, wasting valuable time that could have been used to attempt resuscitation. It wasn't until a whole minute later, at 9:20 AM, that they began performing an untrained form of CPR, which, as the video shows, was ineffective and continued for over three minutes. At no point did the receptionist call me immediately after this happened, which is standard protocol when an emergency occurs. If they truly didn't know what they were doing, they should have rushed my dog to the hospital right away. Instead, they've attempted to blame his death on a supposed pre-existing heart condition and tracheal collapse from an x-ray, but conveniently ignored key facts. The doctor herself admitted that the cause of death was undetermined at the time, and failed to mention that the x-ray also showed a life-threatening condition called GDV (gastric dilatation-volvulus), which can be caused by stress and can obstruct blood flow to the heart, leading to cardiac issues. My dog's stress at their facility was evident; he defecated himself due to the immense distress caused by the dryer, which they continued to use until he had an accident. If they had been paying attention and listened to me when I explained that he didn't like the dryer, maybe this could have been avoided. My dog had no history of heart problems, was not on medication, and was always meticulously cared for by me, as evidenced by recent x-rays I had taken and reviewed by a specialist. Additionally, the video footage shows there was no urgency when they should have been rushing to save him. Instead, they were putting sugar in his mouth as though he were diabetic. By the time they finally took him to the hospital, he was already gone, and when I arrived, it was clear that no proper resuscitation efforts had been made--no atropine, no epinephrine, and no oxygen equipment in sight. My dog was dead on the table, his tongue purple. Hershey was my best friend, and I will never forgive myself for trusting his care to Oceanside Pet Spaw. But I will ensure everyone knows the truth about what happened that day. Please look at the time stamps and tell me how this was urgent. The little ones needed a grooming and I dropped them off around 10am on Saturday... 5/5 Pet Grooming $60.00 When I picked them up around 6pm, they were done up as usual...all dolled up, cleaned cut and smelling really fresh. The owner treats your 4 legged family members like they're hers, with so much love. I ask for them to be hand cut rather than shaved with a hair shaver; it's better for their hair growth. This place may be a few dollars more, but there's no price you can put on how your family member is treated and how they look when you pick them up. 5/5 Service here can't be duplicated at another place, trust me on this as you won't find a nicer, better place with the kindest hands that you would trust your own child with. The care and Love she puts in to caring for my baby is as if he was her own. She cares for him in every way and treats him like a prince. Vilma is flexible when I need to pick him up and accommodates my busy schedule. She sends pictures and videos while I'm gone and it assured me he's comfortable. Spending time cageless with other doggies keeps him busy and keeps him occupied. The people are good, but BEWARE - you MUST sign a contract including paragraph 19, the Pet Owner's COMPLETE RELEASE OF LIABILITY. including "any negligence" of the business, INCLUDING "any injury, damage or the death of the Canine while under the care" of Oceanside Pet Spaw !! Good luck with that! They could negligently INJURE, DAMAGE, OR KILL your dog, but you, the owner, assume the risk. Personally, I would never sign such a contract with anybody caring for my animal. I took my adorably shaggy terrier (think Toto from Wizard of Oz) for a "bath only; no hair cut"(written instructions) today. It was 10 AM and Vilma was still not there, even though I was told to bring him between 9 and 12. Vilma's brother said she would call when he was done. By 3:15, after no call, I was concerned and called. I was told in a very rudely stern voice, which I believe to be Vilma's, that "I texted you a long time ago." The phone # that I left was not able to receive text messages...I was told that she would CALL. As soon as I entered and asked for my dog, Vilma's brother came out from the back room and said "We made a mistake. I confused him with another dog and we shaved him. But we won't charge you." Yes, they SHAVED him! A Cairn Terrier mix with a double coat! He now has less than 3/8" of fur all over him except what is left of his eye brows, a small mustache, and a ridiculous looking "tuft" on the end of his otherwise naked tail. It will likely take several years, if ever, for his fur to grow out to normal. These people are not professional. Dogs should be "groomed to breed" unless the owner tells the groomer directly to do otherwise. Even then, the expected results should be discussed between the owner and groomer. It is a sign of incompetence for such a mistake to be made. Yes, I have also made mistakes....the biggest was taking my pet to Oceanside Pet Spaw! read more
