Have known DJ James Coles for years and our foundation has worked with him (hired him) for our fundraisers and outdoor events and this guy is very prompt and accommodating! We had no problem whatsoever with his playlist, he gauges the crowd and plays a great selection. He has no issues with music request either. 1 Star + :owner was able to offer reasonable price 1 Star + :DJ accepted a playlist and showed up prior to event time 1 Star - :DJ played outdated songs during pre ceremony (not even close to the playlist which was designed to cater to our guests) and sound quality was bad (weak base and soft) 1 Star - :we provided a tent to help protect the DJ from unexpected rain even if it wasn't part of the contract. it rained. we had the DJ relocated indoor. the DJ did not communicate to us how long it will take for him to reset. by the time the DJ finished resetting, garter/bouquet toss and first dance are done and most of our guests are gone. we had to use our own speaker and our own songs to play. it was frustrating because we missed out on all of the fun dancing with our guest, they left because it was so quiet. 1 Star - : owner did not offer any sympathy towards our experience. he stated that his equipment is state of art and that we provided a playlist to be played only during the reception (it took us time to write the list off songs and none was played). Finally when I asked for a refund (asking only to charge us for DJ transportation) the owner refused, he said they're small company and cannot afford to refund instead he offered a free DJ service for future events. Now, when will we ever use that? And the sad part... WE CAN NEVER TURN BACK TIME for missed opportunity of having a fun wedding to our guests. We are VERY FRUSTRATED. read more

I jus wanna say that Mr. James Coles and his crew did an awesome job for my daughter and nephew's graduation party this past weekend. From the beginning he answered all my questions and reassured me that what we wanted was gonna be fulfilled, on spot he came through and I couldn't ask for more. I would highly recommend him. My cousin and aunt knows James, and I seen he had a deal going for $100 a hour. I went to book him and he ended up charging me $300 for 2 hours instead. Ok fine whatever, I paid half one day and next payday the other half. My daughters party came up on 4/13, and the day before I gave him a super short list of what I wanted him to play and figured leave it up to the professional. 4/13 came and I'm busy as hell running around setting up my daughters party before our guests came at 5. I see a DJ play some music for us before the band played because we were behind on our set up. We only had 2 hours to set up at Artistry. I assumed the DJ was him but nope it's just the sound tech guy who's a DJ there. When 7:00pm came I told the sounds tech "I don't know where James is and I haven't heard from him". They said ok well we can play for you and we will try and call him to see what had happened. I tried to reach out to him through FB messenger since that's how we have been contacting each other. The next day I checked my emails and seen that he sent an email saying he was unable to make it because his wife bought him tickets for George Clinton. Ok cool whatever I understand if that was on your bucket list but he could have at least called since I've been calling him on messenger to see what the hell happened. I emailed him asking for my refund because now I have to pay my uncle back who helped me pay for the last minute back up DJ. He claims that he don't owe me no refund and that he is paying for the DJ who jumped in last minute. First of all when you're making a party at Artistry you pay EVERYTHING at the end of the night. I informed him that he owes that to me not nobody else because it already came out of my uncle's pocket. Soooo here I am waiting now 3 weeks for my refund and NOTHING. Luckily I paid my uncle back so now I WANT MY DAMN MONEY. I'm a single mother of 2 and work hard to be able to do things like make a big party for my 1 year old daughter. It is very sad to see a business man who is well known do this to me. I wish I looked on yelp first because if I seen everyone else's comments about him I wouldn't have booked him. Short Review: We loved them. They are a MUST for a great party. They played all the music we wanted (and all requests). People were on the dance floor the ENTIRE night (up until we had to leave the room). That's when you know you have an amazing DJ. Docked a star, just because communication was a little iffy in the beginning. Long review: So here's a funny story. Once upon a time, a loooong time ago, I was a club rat in Waikiki. I used go to clubbing at least once or twice a week with my best friend (who knew a lot of DJs, bouncers, etc). Then, when I started law school, I dropped off the music/club map. When I moved to Seattle, I dropped even FURTHER off the Waikiki music/club map to non existence. So, when that faithful day came to plan my wedding and I needed a DJ in Hawaii, I had no idea where to go. After having many bad experiences at other friends' weddings (OMG, some talk too much while others won't play ANY requested music), I decided my husband and I should have an ipod DJ. We would load up our playlist and tell a friend have at it! My 21 year old self would have kicked and screamed against this, but at 28, I was thinking there's no waaay I can find a DJ as awesome as the once I used to dance to. So, one month or so before the wedding, my mom is talking to a family member and the hotel. They asked if we had a DJ and she said, we have an ipod. They responded YOU NEED A DJ! My mom got recommendations. A week or so later, my mother says, Kat! I got you a DJ. D and I were a little skeptical, but thought well, that was nice of my mom to get it for us so we'll play along. I email James on December 15 (15 days before the wedding) and say Hey! I know my mom asked you to be our wedding DJ, and I wanted to get in touch. Silence... (this is why I docked a star). Then, on December 22, I hear back. He tells me to give him our playlist with all the songs we want. So, I do. And what a playlist it was! Let's just say... eclectic. and very 90's club scene (side note, the DJ told us he laughed when he received it). The day of our wedding, we get to the room and lo and behold, there's a DJ I had seen around back when I was a club rat. My best friend (who was one of my maid of honors) laughed because she knows him very well. From that moment forward, the DJ played all songs requested (including our very obscure ones, did you know "Lean Back" is obscure? How about the "Mortal Kombat" theme song. I'm very serious. We requested it on the fly, and our DJ pulled up THE MORTAL KOMBAT THEME SONG!!! Now THAT IS AWESOME!!!!). The dance floor was packed the entire night and our friends were talking about the dancing/music at our wedding for a long time after. Now THAT, my friends, is a party. These guys are very friendly and the price was the only reasonable Djs I could find. The only complaints I have is that they didn't listen to my bride and groom's must play music. The reason they gave us was because the kids that was there. Um. I didn't hire you to worry about our kids i hired you to play music we love!! They kept playing wack music and didn't have hit new songs people requested. If you are into the limited music they have then you are good to go.. If you want variety then maybe paying more for a dj is what you need to do. read more

This review is LONG overdue but since his profile showed up FB refreshed my memory of what he did to myself and my husband (my fiance back when we booked him). Please excuse me if my review goes all over the place but he basically scammed me and my husband out our money so I'm pretty emo about our experience. I'm taking the advice of our friends and family that don't want another couple to go though this either. Our wedding date was scheduled on 12/30/17, a morning reception. We wanted to book an MC & DJ services with him but his customer service SUCKED and I started to worry since he wasn't answering emails that I thought I'd go with a different MC but still keep him as a DJ (I was being considerate since he was a friend of a really good friend of mine). A friend of mine hooked me up with him and I dropped half my amount of deposit he wanted ($550) no questions asked for our wedding... he treated me like I was gonna be taken care of because of who I was connected with so I had zero doubts. Long story short he never responded back to any questions I had or emails regarding the program.. he pretty much ghosted me unless I wanted more services. I heard NOTHING from him and about a month away and zero contact from him we decided to go with another DJ also. I was upset with the way thing were panning out and my back up DJ said that planning weddings this should NEVER happen when you book a DJ that will be the main entertainment. When I tried to contact him regarding my deposit or at least a portion of the deposit he never responded and after a few more texts he decides to email me an invoice that was never ever sent to me and noted deposits are non-refundable. We was out the $550 and I paid him in through my debit card 8 months prior so the bank stated it went past the time frame since I paid him to even consider a reversal on the debit card. They encouraged me with all bookings on venues going forward it should always be booked via credit card so I could had claim him as the fraud he is and get at least a portion of my deposit back. I thought booking EARLY as I could would prevent this from happening and make less for me to worry about..I was wrong. Wrong for thinking people are at least decent enough when a person books you for a service you are clear on if you CAN or CAN'T do the job. If you decide to use this FLAKE... do yourself a favor and DON'T. I'm filing with the BBB next so I'm not done here. read more
