Would NOT recommend United Alarm - extremely poor experience. Purchased a home in October 2017 that came with a previously installed United Alarm system and I decided to maintain the service with them by signing up for an initial one-year service contract. This was to maintain the same hardware, house signage, etc. Note: all/most of my issues with United Alarm may have been avoided if I had purchased a new system as this inherited one was out of warranty and thus all repairs/service costs were not covered and led to out-of-pocket expenses. Any time I had an issue with it I received a shrug of the shoulders and was told it was out of warranty so there was nothing they could do unless I paid more. The system never worked correctly. We had multiple issues with the window sensors and the main hub sending signal to United Alarm (sometimes the signal was not coming through so even if the alarm went off the monitoring team would never know it - not safe and pointless for a monitoring system). The alarm would randomly go off and despite several service calls (a fee of $100 each time unless we agreed to an additional year on the contract) they never seemed able to fix it. Of the 30 months we had the service it may have worked properly for six of them. The final straw was when I booked a service call in February 2020 (after waiting two weeks for them to call me back to book) at a cost of $100. The told me they couldn't fix the current issue and that the solution may be found if I buy either a new part for $315 or sign up for a three-year contract. There was no guarantee this would solve the issue, there was no refund on the $100 service fee even though they couldn't fix it. There was zero chance I was signing up for a three-year term on a system that had no guarantees it would even work. I called in to cancel the month-to-month contract since I now had a system that did not work at all and was told I would still be billed for April because of their thirty-days cancellation policy. Horrible customer service from the reps on the phone, however the tech in person was two-weeks in to the job and very professional about the situation. read more

This company is ridiculous! I wanted to move to another Alarm company as it works with my smart home system, since I was still under contract with United Alarm I decided to keep their service until the contract was up. When the Contract was up, I called to cancel my service with United and switched over to ADT who set up my system and boxed the panel from United - Fast forward two months, I called United to ask if they wanted their Panel back as they never told me that they needed the equipment back as it was collecting dust in my garage, they said yes and that someone would call me for pick up. Fast forward another 2 months and no calls from United so I call back, they confirmed a pick up and came an got the Panel. Now 1 month later I receive an invoice for $250 saying that i have to buy the motion detectors that they never uninstalled out of my home! So i advised them to come take the equipment out and guess what, that's a $95 charge! If I hadn't been proactive and called them regarding their equipment I would never have been charged! but now 6 months after I've cancelled my service you're trying to get more money out of me? Worst company ever I will make sure I tell everyone I know not to deal with United. read more

Really good company when it comes to taking your money but when it comes to help when issues arise, again very quick at taking your money. When choosing an alarm company hurry and run cause their service just sucks. You pay, pay, and pay They persuaded me to get a video door bell, and when it stopped working I contacted tech support. After days on the phone with no help they said they will send someone over.....with a cost of course. Door bell hasn't worked properly since. It's been maybe a year and still no help. Now I have an issue with my home alarm system again hours on the phone. Tech support was unable to fix my issue. "We can send someone over" they say......... again for a cost. WHAT DO I PAY FOR!!!! Now been waiting for almost an hour to try to cancel .......TERRIBLE!!!! DO NOT GO WITH THESE GUYS FOR SERVICE..... I can only imagine what this company would be like if God forbid you or your family were ever in danger. read more

Would definitely NOT recommend United Alarm. 1) their 'open 24 hours' is not true - the monitoring station are there 24/7 but the office is not and when there are problems with the system - guess what? You have to talk to the office. And all alarm companies have a 24/7 monitoring station with live people! 2) their technicians over the phone ask the dumbest questions and do not listen to what you are telling them - example: (me) my alarm code did not turn off the alarm (tech) do you want me to pull up the code list and check you have the correct code? (me) how long have I had my alarm system? (tech) just over a year (me) so I would think I know my code by now - wouldn't I? (tech) would you like me to check the code? (me)??????????? And that's just 1 example - I've been entertaining my friends with some of the conversations I've had! 3) Their technician gave me incorrect information resulting in no alarm system on my premises for over a week. Spoke with 4 or 5 different people and basically they really couldn't care less! 4) Calls from the monitoring station at 2:00, 3:00, 5:00 in the morning - for a LOW BATTERY signal! Seriously - who thinks that's a good time to call just to tell me that I have a low battery signal? 5) Had to have the techician out 3 times for a faulty motion sensor before he finally replaced it. But not before they kept telling me that I must have mice or something setting it off - even though I kept telling them that it's supposed to be set for my 12 pound dog to not set it off. I kept telling them - if there's a mouse bigger than 12 pounds in my office - I got bigger problems than a faulty alarm system! 6) supposed to have 2 independent partitions on my system BUT when I set the alarm in 1 partition and open the door in the other partition - it sets off the alarm. Made probably 15+ phone calls about it but they keep telling me it can't happen. Finally send the technician out and I demonstrate what happens and he tells me to just wait for the countdown to finish on the one partition before i open the door on the other!!! Wow - what a solution!!! Why didn't I think of that?!!?? Morons! And still not fixed - apparently they can't/don't know how/won't fix it??? Beginning the search for a new company today! This company is just the worst! We had sensors fall off, malfunction equipment and brutal service. When I called to get the issues fixed, I was told I would need to pay a $175 service call! this is to fix the equipment they provided me all the while still charging me a monthly service fee! I told them I would not pay this charge for this service and this was 4 months ago and they stuck with not fixing the issue and said my business was just not so important to them. I was blown away at every step and will make me reconsider ever going into a contract with any company going forward. read more

We liked United service for many years. Unfortunately they outsourced their call center to SecureTek in Saskatchewan 1-2 yrs ago and we have since noticed their call center has taken longer and longer to respond to false alarms. The delay has become outrageously long (in excess of 10-15 min in some instances we have experienced). At that point, why have an alarm system at all? Way too long. We have since moved on. read more

Stay Away from this company - 12 year customer I went upgrade my system and the sales person cancelled my appointment twice. Both times I left work to be home for this meeting. Called the United Alarms to speak to a manager and they did not return my call. I sent in a 30 day cancellation notice for termination May 1st and they stopped monitoring the system the day they received the letter. Then they charge me for monitoring for the month of May. They justified what they did by "wording" of the contract and cancellation agreement. They said that there is a 90 day notice and they gave me break. After 12 years and United failed in all areas of customer service, I am left to warn others not to use this mismanaged company. Good luck in your search for an Alarm Company. read more

One star is too much for this Company. We found them extremely deceptive and dishonest. I was the owner of a rental property in SE Calgary. My sister and I purchased this rental property in July 2007. We hired a management company to advertise and vet renters as well as manage the property. When we went to sell this property in August 2018 we discovered that there was a Notice of Security Interest applied against our property on May 28, 2008 (10 months after we purchased the home), in the amount of $1216. Upon investigating this Notice, we discovered it was United Alarm Company 3515 32 St NE #200, Calgary, AB T1Y 5Y9 that had it applied. When we purchased the house in 2007, there were no liens or encumbrances against this home. We, the owners, never ordered any equipment or services from United Alarm Company. We checked with the Management Company and there was never any renters by the name that the Security Lien was filed against. The name that appears on the Security lien is not the name of the previous owners from whom we purchased the house. So who were these people?? We spoke with Jahan Ameiri at United Alarm and he stated because of the Privacy Act, and that we were not the names on the Security Lien, he couldn't give us any information. He advised that with the accumulated interest we owed $20,000.+ but we could settle for $1500. We called the Land Titles Office and were informed that anyone can put a Notice of Security Interest against any property. They do not vet the legality of such an action. They advised we should call the Alarm Company and have them remove the said hardware. There was no hardware in the home! We can only assume that there never was a system installed. Because we had an offer for the sale of the house pending, we had no option but to pay the money. It is extremely upsetting to us that United Alarm Company 3515 32 St NE #200, Calgary, AB T1Y 5Y9 can get away with this type of action. It is supposedly illegal to install this type of hardware in a rental home to anyone other than the owner. If that is the case, how can United Alarm then do exactly that? In a fair world, United Alarm should be forced to repay us the ransom money that we had to pay them in order to sell the house. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY read more

I have got United install the security system in my house 4 months ago. !st thing the marketing guy is not truthful in telling what you get with the money you pay. The system was installed wrong and instead of 3 motion detectors I only get the one for the front door. I had a few wrong alarms and when I call, their dispatch is saying that the alarm is for the patio door, While I do not have a motion detector for the patio door or the garage door as I was promised initially. Then they want to slap me with a charge to send their technician to check the system. While this was not the case at 1st. I am extremely dissatisfied with the United and I think they are getting my money for no correct service. read more

I have had a bad experience with these guys also. They installed a "free" alarm and had me sign a contract for monitoring services. The alarm never did work properly and after showing up a couple of times to fix it it still never worked. I was upset and tried talking to the owner, president maybe... anyways his name was Vince. This got me nowhere and when I threatened to cancel my subscription they said fine, pay up for the equipment installed. when I said no they threatened to put a lien on the house. I checked into it also, and legally they can do this. They don't tell you that the free alarm system install is actually their ticket to hold you ransom even if the service it terrible. Bad Bad company. Unethical is right. A company with these morals is the type of company that would rob seniors and steal from the blind if they could. I found a site dedicated to these guys and their BS. Avoid this company at all costs. They will install faulty equipment you will have terrible times when you run to your business at 3am finding out that it was a false alarm. this happened on a continuous basis and it took them months to replace the faulty equipment. Will highly advice to stay away from them. read more
