We've flown Allegiant Air a number of times and on average it's been pretty good. We pack light and only bring on our backpacks so we avoid the baggage fees. There are lots of fees, but we just don't buy any of those extras, such as picking our own seats. Since our flights are usually from Stockton to Phoenix, AZ, the flights are short and therefore we can put up with sitting in less than ideal locations on the plane. They always seat parents with their children, at least 1 parent with 1 child, so no child is ever left to sit by themselves, so the whole choose your own seat thing isn't important to us as long as there's 1 parent with 1 or both of our children. In fact, when you're booking your flights, a child cannot book on their own, there must be an adult's ticket booked at the same time, that ensures safety and also that the parent on the same booking will be seated with that/those child(ren). The comfort level isn't great as the seats are quite hard, they're acceptably cushy, but bring your own donut seat cushion or whatever you need if you are looking for extra back and bottom support. We like that the planes are Airbus and not Boeing ones, but that's not the biggest thing. The most important issue of course is safety, and we've experienced very professionally piloted Allegiant flights that are safe and smooth. The flight attendants have been good to great, and the pilots very competent and professional. 1-star taken for when they do have some delays (necessary) and some of them have been quite long such as waiting to depart b/c of some technical issues (understandable) and also once we were waiting for our checked item (really discouraged us from checking any luggage ever again) for over an hour after arrival. Overall, we like Allegiant Air and plan to keep flying with them since they are Acceptable, Affordable, and a bit Above Average. =)

I'll admit I was a little nervous going into it since it's such a change from how Southwest has always done things, but it was surprisingly smooth. Everything felt easy, like they had been doing it this way for years. And honestly, not having everyone rush to line up and grab their seat was such a nice change. We did pay for the upgrade for extra leg room, and it was 100% worth it. It made the whole flight feel more comfortable, especially for a longer travel day. One thing that stood out was the snack selection. There were so many options, from honey or salted pistachios to Oreos, ginger snap or graham cracker cinnamon cookies, and even garlic pretzel twists. Everything we tried was actually really good, which isn't always the case with airplane snacks. I also loved that the cups are now made from bamboo, which felt like a nice, more thoughtful touch. Everything on board felt really clean, and I believe we were on one of the newer 800 planes, which definitely added to the overall experience. Helpful tip: If you're on the fence, the extra leg room upgrade is worth it, and the new seating setup actually makes boarding feel way less stressful. It ended up being a much better experience than I expected, and I'd absolutely do it this way again.

If you are doing assigned seats, why let people move to wherever they want when door closes?…read more What's the point of that. Yes. If theres a row open sure. Im all for it. But I was assigned a middle seat. With Noone at window or aisle. So I sat in my middle seat. And some guy came and sat next to me in the aisle seat, after he already had his seat in the middle. I get it. Trust me I do. But I got told even if the window seat is open I can not move to it because of how the manifest lists passengers and where they are. Sooooooo . Pick a side southwest. Disappointed

Fly me to the moon Let me play among the stars Let me see what spring is like On Jupiter and Mars This week I was flying out of Vegas and the unthinkable happened. My first flight was delayed by two hours which meant I'd miss my connecting flight to Oakland. Note to self. Always fly direct if possible. What happened next just blew me away and made me a Southwest customer for life. * At the Customer Service station in Vegas, the kind Southwest lady booked me on the next direct flight to Oakland at no additional charge. * My baggage didn't make the direct flight to Oakland but the super nice Customer Service lady at Oakland Airport (shout out to Jamina) processed my baggage report and made sure I was alerted when my bag arrived on the next flight which was in about an hour. * Southwest gave me a $150 credit for my troubles. * Southwest refunded my $35 baggage charge. Matt says if you are traveling, be sure to check out Southwest. Their professional attention to the customer is superior to any other airline I've flown with.

Checking a bag was a breeze in the priority lane, and the regular line wasn't super long, but there were people even at that hour. Boarding was also smooth with the numbered zones and assigned seating. The Oakland gate areas are super small thought with a limited amount of seating. I'd imagine on a busy travel day, working your way to your gate could be an issue. It's probably the least appealing gate area of any Southwest terminal I've been in. Luckily, I wasn't there long.

When I read these reviews I was horrified and worried I'd be charged for something random, or the airline/ airplane itself would be in horrible condition, my biggest fear was paying extra for no middle seat and coming to only see someone sitting in the middle seat. Needless to say I'd had quite the opposite experience!!! I came in at 9 on Sunday with no life at the desk, walked up to Jasmine who was nice enough to let me know my bag was ok as a carry on. I made it through security with no line at all and to the gate just in time to have a beer and a burrito. The plane and employees on it where just like any other for any other airline I've been on, I didn't have one bad experience. My seat was clean ( window seat) and no one was in the middle seat!!! For the price and experience I'll take this anytime!!! I'm definitely coming back again. Thank you tot he staff for making this enjoyable experience and definitely proving some of these negative comments wrong.

After booking they changed our departure time from very early morning to late evening, and our return flight from late afternoon to morning, effectively costing us two days of our vacation. If you have ANY other option, avoid Spirit Airlines like the plague!

A Detour to Vegas... But Still a Smooth Southwest Experience…read more This past week I traveled round-trip on Southwest from San Jose to Denver for a conference. While I'm still not completely sure how I feel about Southwest's new pre-selected seating system, I'm not opposed to it either. I chose seats that didn't require an extra fee and ended up with aisle seats on all of my flights--a direct flight from San Jose to Denver and a return trip connecting through Phoenix--which worked out perfectly. Upon check-in for each flight, I ended up in boarding group 8. At first, I was a bit annoyed by that. But once I thought about it, since seating is now assigned, boarding later actually turned out to be a nice opportunity to relax a little longer at the gate while everyone else rushed to line up and stand around inside the plane waiting for others to settle into their seats. That said, I still wish one airline would try boarding from the back of the plane first and then move forward row by row. It just seems like it would make far more sense and eliminate a lot of the aisle congestion. One thing I really appreciated was how smooth the airport experience was. On both ends of the trip it took me less than five minutes to get through security and to my gate. Thankfully, neither city seemed to be affected by the TSA delays that other airports have been experiencing lately. In general, Southwest employees continue to impress me. They've always been professional, friendly, and very good at managing the flow of travelers with patience and grace. I honestly can't recall ever having a negative interaction with their staff. The only hiccup on this trip came on my return. Somehow one of my checked bags decided to take a detour to Las Vegas instead of San Jose. Given that I had just lost my best friend's mother to cancer the day before and was coming off a long five-day conference with 12-hour days, I wasn't exactly thrilled with the situation. However, the baggage claim agent in San Jose handled it immediately. She apologized, reassured me that the bag would likely arrive within the hour, and explained that I'd receive a text when it landed with the option to either have it delivered to my home or pick it up for a $150 voucher. Since I didn't want to wait around for delivery, I chose to pick it up myself. Technically the voucher turned into about $145 after airport parking--and probably even less if you factor in California gas prices--but I still appreciated the gesture. The good news is Southwest followed through quickly. My bag arrived in San Jose just as they predicted. I had worried it might get pushed to later that evening, so I was relieved to get it back sooner rather than later--even if it meant battling commute traffic. One final highlight: my Phoenix to San Jose flight was on a brand new aircraft that was spotless and very comfortable. A minor luggage detour aside, Southwest continues to be my preferred airline. Friendly staff, efficient airports, clean planes, and generally smooth travel keep me coming back.
