I am writing to say thank you and commend the exceptional kindness and service to United Airlines employee, Kirolos Abdelmaseih, who assisted my wife and me on several occasions during lengthy flight delays on Sunday, June 21st, 2026, while we were waiting to fly to Munich, Germany. He went above and beyond any reasonable assistance by moving us with his cart from one gate to another, from the United Lounge to a change of gate, and coming after we had to change planes without us ever contacting him to provide assistance to my wife who is disabled. He made what could have been a stressful day an opportunity to meet a delightful and caring person. Thank you! Peter and Randell Schmidt, Allentown, PA read more

Upon landing in Newark Airport Terminal C for United Airlines, the aisles looked roomy and bright. Eateries and shops dot the terminal, which I believe is a V-shape. I landed in one leg and had to make my way to the second leg, while taking a break at United Polaris Lounge in between (see separate review). The United screens were very informative, especially because they included walking distance to gates. Because of that extra info, I knew I can go to the lounge. There is also a normal United Club lounge near gate 74. My flights miraculously landed on time and hopefully will take off on time, too. This terminal C area appears to be all United. They even have selfie stations. Kids were enjoying the plane one. read more

I really don't like and can't stand United. They made me check my carry on bag... meanwhile these are alllll of the empty overhead storage as we are taking off I asked the flight attendant and she said she doesn't know why they made me check it. They're in a group chat and no one told them to have that happen. I was group 3. Next time I'm removing the tag and waiting until I'm on the flight to see what the truth. Then they have peoples regular book bag. JetBlue has failed me. That's my favorite airline and the best airline but they don't fly to Newark anymore I can't even wait for my survey. I normally refuse to give negative reviews but I am compelled to do one for the first leg of my flight home. United Airlines flight from Israel to Newark m, NJ was a nightmare from the beginning. A particular large group of people from Washington were on board. They were unruly, very rude and violated federally mandated instructions from the flight attendants. It was as if nobody else mattered but them. So we were very late taking off because of all of the confusion they caused and their refusal to follow simple orders. These folks wouldn't even follow orders to be seated before and during pushback and on approach to land. Then when we landed in Newark some of them were up and out of their seats when the plane started to taxi. The Airline staff were completely frustrated. It's as if they were being restrained by some policy to directly address their behaviors, some which other airlines would have had the authorities waiting on them upon deplaning! We had to sit on the tarmac for around 30 minutes because another United flight was at our gate and there was no ground crew to work an empty gate. So we missed our connecting flight and when we tried to get help three people told us conflicting information. I'll stop here because it doesn't get any better. United earned zero stars! At least we did get great support from staff in the baggage drop area of Terminal C so kudos to them for their help. read more

So I thought I a was coming home instead United left us 4 hours stranded in the DR! Turned around and delayed our connecting flight so that the pilot could get to the plane (the hell with the 8 passengers who also needed this flight). Left us stranded in New Jersey and then put us in a hotel that didn't have shuttle service and wanted us to is Lyft for a ride that was cancelled twice! Now here we are cold, hungry and sleeping in the fucking airport until the next flight leaves at 7!!! First of all how are you going to make us deboard a plane, go through customs, then TSA, then baggage claim and re-check our bags, yes and get to a terminal 45 minutes away and leave us! read more

One of the worst airline service experiences I've had, from check-in to the flight itself. At Washington Dulles, the check-in staff were rude and dismissive. I was sent away after waiting in the baggage-drop line because an additional baggage-registration step had not been completed. When my suitcase was slightly overweight, instead of simply telling me how much weight to remove, I was told to "take out two T-shirts." I removed a children's toy weighing almost 1 kg and still had to repack again. At boarding, I asked twice to have my stroller tagged for gate check. This was not done, leaving me to board with a 5-year-old child, two backpacks and the stroller. The stroller was later returned with a broken carrying strap. The onboard experience was even worse. Dinner was served approximately THREE HOURS after takeoff. After 2.5 hours, my 5-year-old was extremely hungry and close to tears. I asked three times if they could bring just one meal for the child. They refused and repeatedly told me food would come "in a few minutes." We waited about another 40 minutes. Even a request for ice for my child was refused. When food finally arrived, our preferred choice was no longer available. I had tried to pre-order, but United's system did not offer my saved card, while manual payment required selecting a billing country from a list of only three countries, none of which was mine. The individual problems were frustrating, but what made the experience unacceptable was the consistent lack of helpfulness and basic consideration throughout the journey, especially toward a parent travelling with a young child. I was absolutely shocked by United's lack of customer service. After sitting on the tarmac for five hours, our flight was canceled--and they refused to give us our checked bags back. I completely understand that weather can cause delays and cancellations. However, if United cancels the flight, I should have the option to retrieve the bag I paid to check instead of having it fly to my destination without me. The lack of communication, customer service, and common sense was incredibly disappointing. This experience was unacceptable. read more

I flew United airlines from Newark NJ to Sint Maarten. The boarding process was quick and easy. I had a different experience before boarding the plane- my face was scanned to be checked in and my seat # popped up on the screen. I traveled United on the evening of July 3rd. I waited on the line at the gate to request an assigned seat from an agent. I was rudely Greeted by Glen W. If I could give them negative stars I would. Everyone with the united badge was rude and/or extremely unhelpful. Our flight to MSN was cancelled (understandably so with the severe storms, nothing you can do about that). The problem starts with the gate agent at C97 for the 6:47 flight. She didn't even have the decency to announce the cancellation. All she did was tell 30-40 something people to walk back to the waiting area ( as we had boarded through group 4 already). As we were all trying to figure out next steps, she disappeared...never to be seen again. Briefly before she made like Houdini, we were told to scan a QR code to talk to a gate agent. Now about the oh so helpful app, which tells you to talk to a gate agent (ironic). The "gate agent" is ChatGPT .... when there are real people in your face boldly ignoring and acting like you aren't trying to go home to your family. When I tried to speak to an actual agent at another desk (with a COMPUTER) all they told me was that I had to use the app. So either improve the app to handle mass cancellations and rebooking for 40-50 people. Or have someone on site who can at the very least point people in the right direction to make a decision on next steps. The only helpful person was Anna, and she was the flight attendant not even associated with United. Thank you Anna for looking for alternative flights, handling the onslaught of questions either way humility and kindness, and acknowledging a stressful situation for everyone involved. We did more problem solving together as paying customers than the people who were HIRED to engage with us (at the very least) What could have been an understandable cancellation due to weather and a simple rebooking, turned into an unnecessary and uncomfortable experience that will have me questioning if I book is truly worth it in the future. Flying United Airlines back to Los Angeles from Newark Airport which is in New Jersey. United Airlines had an issue with our airplane which delayed us by an hour. While we were boarding they needed to have some people come in to fix the bathroom stall. Overall anything can happen on a flight when getting on board and off. Patience is always great to have and actually, the staff members on the plane were super nice and fun. Things happen and sometimes you should allocate more time if you are doing a connecting flight. Sunday night was the worst experience I've had with United Airlines in the nearly 50 years of flying the carrier.  We were returning home in San Diego from Newark NJ via LAX.  The aircraft for UA2035 was at the EWR gate for 2 1/2 hours before our scheduled departure, but we were over an hour late taking off.  Why?  Because there were not enough flight attendants for our flight ... and we had to wait to board until United could get staff from another flight.  No way were we going to make our connection to San Diego, which was the last LAX-SAN flight that day.  Fortunately, I use the United app and was able to rebook enroute for the next morning.  But we had to find our own accommodations for the night and arrange our own transportation from/to LAX.  And NO compensation from United for the expenses we incurred because United at EWR couldn't properly staff a waiting aircraft for an on-time departure. read more

I recent flew United roundtrip from SFO (San Francisco, CA) to EWR (Newark, NJ). I typically don't take United for longer domestic flights, but a friend was trying to use up an expiring flight credit and I had points, so we decided to fly together. The first leg was a redeye. We departed SFO at 11:45pm PST Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 and were scheduled to land 8:02am EST on Wednesday, January 10th. We landed a touch early at around 7:40am. We splurged a bit on Premier Plus seats. The seats have a leg rest was is nice. And obviously they are roomier. They served us a meal which I wasn't expecting, so I got the chicken and I think my friend got ravioli? We like sharing so it was whatever the other meal was. Drinks were included, so I got some liquor and wine. I didn't really sleep much, but the flight was fine. Other than the meal and leg rest, if you sit on the two seats closest to the window, this was comparable to the first on some domestic airlines. Our return flight departed EWR on Saturday, January 13th at 6pm EST and was scheduled to land at 9:23pm PST. I believe we landed a little early again. We originally booked Premium Plus seats (luckily this flight was much cheaper than the one there), but decided to upgraded with points to Business since they have lay flats, so I was able to sleep. It's basically United Polaris, but they don't call it that for domestic routes, so you can only use the regular United Club. I pre-ordered the chicken and my friend the burger, but he ended up with the ravioli since United never got the burger from their catering company. The food is definitely better in business as it was more flavorful and the chicken less dry. Drink offerings were the same. Tho they give you an amenity kit and a glass of champagne before takeoff. I've never been a huge fan of United, but the Business lay flats on the way back changed my mind. Not as good as Polaris for international, but worth the price to me for flights 5+ hours. If I find a deal on Premium Plus and can upgrade with points, I'd book this again in a heartbeat. 5 STARS for service 3 STARS for value = 4 STARS overall read more

Our flight was canceled and we were automatically rebooked onto a different itinerary. Our original flight was a direct flight, but the new one added a connection and significantly disrupted our plans. Because of the delay and schedule change, we also lost our hotel reservation. To make matters worse, we were downgraded from Economy Plus aisle seats to standard Economy middle seats. Despite the downgrade and the added inconvenience, no compensation or meaningful assistance was offered. We also tried contacting customer service to resolve the situation, but after waiting on hold for about 30 minutes, the call was disconnected. This made an already frustrating situation even worse. Overall, the experience was extremely frustrating. Losing the direct flight, getting much worse seats, losing our hotel reservation, and being unable to get help from customer service made this a very disappointing experience. read more

United Airlines staff attempted to seize my wife's $20,000 medical equipment at the terminal, equipment her life depends on without any legitimate explanation or policy cited. Every question we asked was met with gaslighting: "you're being loud," "you're being aggressive," "I'm just trying to help you." We weren't being loud. We were standing there, asking for a reason that never came, while my wife was brought to tears. When I tried to write down her name, a basic, reasonable request, she threatened to put me on a list. "Oh, you're going to document me? I'm documenting you." This was not a slip of the tongue. It was a deliberate threat, used to intimidate a passenger into silence for simply asking her name. No compassion. No supervisor. No answers. Just deflection, dismissal, and retaliation from an agent who seemed more interested in asserting control than helping anyone. It felt like being told to stop resisting while someone tries to break your arm.... The aggression entirely manufactured by the person causing the harm. My wife needed that equipment. She was in tears. And United's response was threats. This was one of the most dehumanizing experiences we have ever had while traveling. United Airlines has lost us permanently. read more

I am writing to file a formal and urgent complaint regarding the conduct of one of your supervisors, Cynthia Sheard, as well as several employees working under her. The behavior I experienced was extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. After already having to rebook our flight due to TSA delays, my travel party and I encountered additional issues at check-in. The staff were rude, aggressive, and dismissive from the start. When we attempted to sort out our luggage--which was only one bag over the limit--the employees made derogatory remarks. As we were trying to condense our bags, one employee even told me to "shut up." When I responded by stating that this is not how customers should be spoken to, they escalated the situation further and ultimately refused to allow us to board our flight. Supervisor Cynthia Sheard's handling of the situation was equally unprofessional, and at no point did she attempt to de-escalate or address the inappropriate behavior of her staff. Instead, the disrespect and hostility were allowed to continue. This experience was not only humiliating but also completely out of line with the level of service any customer should expect. I am requesting that this incident be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action be taken to address the conduct of the supervisor and employees involved. read more

Dear United Airlines Customer Relations, I am writing to formally report an incident that occurred at a United Club lounge involving two staff members on duty. I am an active-duty member of the United States military and was traveling on official orders. I clearly stated this to the staff member and presented my military ID. Despite this, I was told that I was "not active duty," which is false. I also explained that my travel was booked through DTS/SATO due to official orders. The staff member insisted that I had booked the travel myself and stated that I did not book through any company. This was also incorrect. During this interaction, the staff member proceeded to accuse me of lying. Being told that I was lying about my military status and official travel--after presenting valid identification--was unprofessional, disrespectful, and unacceptable. I expect United Club staff to treat all customers with respect, especially active-duty service members traveling on orders. I am requesting that this incident be reviewed and addressed appropriately. Please let me know if further information is required. read more

What can I say? Is United great...nope. Is United awful...nope. Does United take care of its frequent flyers as well as its competitors...absolutely not. The planes are dated. I've flown internationally for years--5-6 Europe trips annually, plus countless domestic flights--and I've never been treated so poorly as I was by a United agent at Newark on July 12, 2025 by Erica whose badge was covered/ had a sticker that said happy (!) so I had a ask her name to another employee, ha! Despite having a confirmed Delta status match (traveling with my two young kids), I was yelled at bag drop. One suitcase was two pounds over; I calmly tried to resolve it with an extra bag I brought, but the agent who was extremely rude and condescending dismissed my status, yelled at me in front of others, refused to help, and talked about me to the next customer while I was there. All I said was "it is just two pounds" which was a reaction and not an objection since I already had an empty bag to carry over the weight, she walked away yelling and accusing me of the things I didn't say. Hope the manager has this recorded to see the level of rudeness in their "friendly skies". My child cried afterward in the bathroom from the stress of watching it unfold. The flight itself was good--kind crew, smooth connection, tasty kids' meals--but the Newark experience was dehumanizing and left me shaken. I've never been treated like that by any airline (or a brand employee) anywhere. United needs to seriously re-train ground staff on basic professionalism and respect. If I could give United a negative -100 I would. Got to the airport via Uber at 5 for an 8pm flight. Been in the East coast visiting family, hunting, fishing, graduation and golf for the past 2 months. Prior to my arriving, my flight was cancelled and i had to stay/ sleep over at the airport for 6 hours. so I was hoping it would be smoother this time around. So I am waiting at my gate and get a delay notification, then another and it is now past flight time at 8:15pm...Then I get notified it is CANCELLED!!! I ask about my bag and they said go to luggage claim. They say I cannot get it as it may cause problems. I wanted my bag because I would have extended my stay...So I Uber back to my dad's house and call United. I wanted an Uber credit versus a hotel voucher for the huge inconvenience United has caused going to NY: NJ and now going back to CA. They say that I have to email them!!!! The advisor on the phone also tells me that I would probably get nothing!!!! So I chill overnight and go to the airport at 2pm the next day...While boarding they say there is another delay. Thankfully after the first delay we finally get on board and leave. Once I arrive I do not see my checked in bag from the day before. They finally find it...Another inconvenience and worry since I had some valuables. This is the 3rd time in 4 flights that my flight has been delayed or cancelled!!! I am annoyed and disappointed since I have flown with United for 3 decades. I have quite a bit of miles but will be taking my next Travel needs to American Airlines or Delta to give them a try. Not sure what happened to. United but they need to up their game and improve their customer experience. In addition, their gate attendants and phone advisors are useless. I travelled with my wife on 5/21 from Newark to Cancun. I am a US Citizen and my wife is a permanent resident. She is in the process of transitioning from her temporary 2 year green card to her permanent one. Her temporary card expired on 2022 but she received an official letter from the USCIS (Form I-751) extending it for 48 months. We've travelled with this letter to many countries including Italy and Denmark without any issues but when checking in for UA1987 we were directed to a customer service area where an United agent told us we would not be able to board because my wife's letter wasn't accepted in Mexico. We tried to explain that it was an official letter from the Immigration department and that we have travelled to many counties with it but she insisted that Mexico would not accept it and UA would be penalized. We had spent over 2000 USD in our trip (in addition to the plane tickets) including hotels, transportation and other reservations that could not be cancelled. and almost lost everything. We panicked! Luckily another employee back in the kiosk area checked us in. We had no issues in Mexico or any other issues coming back to the US whatsoever. Due to an incompetent and unpleasant employee we almost lost and long awaited vacation. read more

I wish there was an option to leave a less than one star. Not sure if anyone from United Airline is reading these comments but I like to share my experience from this weekend from the Newark airport. When we arrive at the security checkpoint, the United Airlines associate stopped us right away telling us there's no carry ons allowed. I told her most airlines allow carry ons and she rudely applied "Not this one and you need to check the fine print on your ticket". She seemed like she didn't want to talk to me at all and told me to "go to the service desk and maybe they can help me." I went down the service desk and dealt with another rude associate and wanted to charge $40 for each carry on. At this time, I got tired of dealing with rude United Airline workers and I didn't want to make a scene in front of my son so I ended up paying $80 to check in our carry ons. There were three people behind who were upset for paying for carry ons as well. When we arrived at the gate they were checking in the carry ons for free. Had I known this earlier, I could've booked cheaper airline departing from JFK. We also paid $40+ just to get to the Newark airport from Brooklyn as well. We recently took a trip to New Jersey and picked United Airlines because it was a nonstop. Not the cheapest itinerary, but I got their credit card to avoid checked baggage fees. One of the problems with United is you pay for an Economy (not Basic) and think you can select your seat for that price. No, that would be wrong unless you want the middle seat in the rear of the plane. For even more money you can select a decent seat. And if you have a lot more money you can book the "Comfort" seats. Our seats had serious lack of legroom. And when the passenger in front of me reclined, me knees were smashed. Now I remember why I stopped flying United Airlines several years ago. I will be canceling the credit card before I get the one year trial over. read more

My review covers both EWR and Fiumicino, Rome airports, therefore I posted this review to both United EWR and Fiumicino, Rome airports. I used to fly every 2 weeks from EWR, JFK or LGA on business before I moved from New Jersey to Delaware in 2021. These days I mostly fly from IAD or DCA. This time I decided to fly out of EWR to Athens, Greece (ATH) because of the nonstop flight to ATH and at a competitive price compared to one stop flights. My past experiences with one stop's has caused me to choose this UA124 787 nonstop from EWR to ATH and my return UA509 777 nonstop Rome, Italy (FCO) to EWR. This was my first time flying a newer 787, which is a very nice widebody aircraft. UA124 was full. The older 777 is larger and more comfortable compared to the slightly smaller, more energy efficient 787. UA124 was on schedule. UA124 flight attendants provided exceptional service. I had my usual premier platinum aisle seat with extra leg room because I am 6' 2" tall. UA124 departed and arrived on time. I took a taxi from ATH to my ATH Grand Hyatt hotel. I checked into my UA509 return flight from FCO to EWR on my mobile phone. Check in at FCO International Terminal 3 also went smoothly including my United Airline check in and bag drop. FCO TSA also went smoothly. FCO Terminal 3 is quite large with many high end duty free shops and the E gates. We had to take a tram to our E38 gate. About one hour prior to our departure UA509 changed our E gate, which was in the same E gate area. My UA509 departure was delayed by about 45 minutes due to the incoming aircraft delay. I was in Group 1 for boarding, but there were many other passengers who were also in Group 1 for boarding. Again I had my premier platinum aisle seat with no customer sitting next to me, which made me feel more comfortable. Again the UA509 flight attendants provided exceptional service during the flight. We picked up some time flying from FCO to EWR. Customs clearance was smooth at EWR. Baggage delivery took some time especially since it took some time for our luggage to arrive at the baggage carousel even though I am lifetime premier platinum. My roundtrip airfare was $1,814, which I thought was quite expensive. Overall I was happy with both my UA124, UA509 flights and my experiences at EWR, ATH and FCO. I rated United Airlines only three stars, since FCO did not have a United Club for us to enjoy while waiting for our delayed return flight at FCO to EWR. The newest United Club at EWR was very enjoyable. Also our return flight from FCO to EWR was delayed and our luggage arrived later than many others at EWR. If I could read it -100 stars I would! The first flight got canceled due to weather, which is more than understandable. However, the rebooking was horrible. The flight was rebooked for the following day. Got to the airport at 7:30 as the flight was leaving 9:35 pm got delayed again as they said because of weather. OK understandable? Then we boarded the plane and employee said they didn't have a pilot which was another long delay now by 2:30 AM. They said they reached their 12 hour workday and that their flight was now canceled. The employee told them that they needed to hurry up and deep board the plane and that they could reschedule with somebody at the ticket booth and that they would be receiving a value for food and hotel accommodations via email and text mind you nobody was there. So three passengers which included a five-year-old at the airport for this long period of time no vouchers nowhere to go and not an employee that cared. Got rebooked for the same day at 3 PM. However, we had to rebook our own flights. Find our own place to stay let alone. Transportation was told that whatever flight that we took our luggage would follow us had to be in Virginia ASAP, rebooked it to Richmond, Virginia get to Richmond no luggage no car seat called customer service car seat was already in Norfolk Virginia before we even reached Richmond had to have somebody drive two hours to pick us up two hours back with no car seat. Mind you our luggage was still sitting in Newark New Jersey was told to have to go to Norfolk airport at 11:30 PM to retrieve our luggage get to Norfolk and again two out of the three pieces of luggage was in Norfolk. The other one was still in Newark. We leave to go back to Phoenix on Wednesday. Employee said we can. I guarantee your luggage will be here before you leave. So on day three we're still no luggage have to purchase clothes employees that we can file a claim with the purchases, however we cannot purchase any expensive clothing. So basically the employees that it is their policy that they were only or by chance maybe reimburse close that may be less than what we wear the fact that United Air Lines did not care if three passengers had nowhere to go nowhere to eat. No clothes in one of the passengers was a five-year-old child! The employees at Newark airport are the worst ever. The employees at Richmond airport are the worst ever the employees at Norfolk airport are the worst ever United Airlines needs to do better and if their employees do not like their job, get another one as I spent $1500 for three tickets in the customer service or even the care that I got isn't even worth a dollar I would suggest to look at a different airline and never use United! read more

Unless you can fly business class or better, most airlines are terrible across the board. The specific issue with United is that they pack planes to a such a degree that there is no space for your overhead bag (which you ticket upgrade to have) and then make you check it - which delays your travel plans picking up (or worse). Zero enforcement of people that abuse overhead policy. Either fly an airline with newer planes and adequate overhead space or jump your Group assignment by a number to ensure you get a place for your luggage. Only passenger chaos that delays their flights will force this evil unethical company to lessen the misery of their passengers. Google airline "calculated misery" to see how these evil companies operate. Fight back! Screw their rules. It's really your only leverage. read more
