It's definitely a hidden gem in Flagler village area. Located on the upstairs of the Brass Tap, it's hidden well. You go through a hidden door and up the stairs into a quiet, intimate atmosphere. They have great drinks and a really nice atmosphere. The drinks are on the pricey side, around $16. The staff was pretty swamped, as it was a Saturday night, and didn't love that we ordered a drink that was not on the menu, Tito's and soda, they kind of gave us an attitude about it and rolled their eyes with the order. We were ordering 5 drinks, only one not off the menu, which wasn't even a challenging drink. Regardless, they made the other drinks off the menu pretty delicious. I cannot believe Unit B has been around for six years and I've never heard of it! I guess that's a good speakeasy for you. Although Brass Tap has sadly closed, Unit B remains open, and you can enter through the old Brass Tap in the Southern facing doors (facing Batch). Go up the stairs and you're transported into the 1920s. The interior is beautifully decorated and has great little seating options- cozy chairs, bar seating, or standard tables. The bar tenders were very friendly and helpful. I got an espresso drink and then a mocktail- I just shared what flavors I was feeling, and the bar tender made me up something delicious. My go to bar, tucked away in the second floor of a restaurant. You walk up to a big door and punch in the code that's given on their website (it's unlocked at times to be able to walk right in). Once upstairs, the ambiance is unmatched. It's classy, but not too over the top. You can dress casual, I usually wear a collared shirt and jeans. There's dim lighting, but the music is always upbeat and fun. The wall of liquor behind the bar stretches up high like a wall of books in a library while the surrounding sofas give off a bit of a gothic vibe. It feels gritty in the best way. I am saying "a kind of" because to be a speakeasy it's very easy to find, pretty much everybody knows where it is and often no code is needed, because they open the door for you. I'm so happy I discovered Unit B on Yelp because I never would have known about it otherwise...which is the point, I guess! It's tucked away above the Brass Tap, and you need to enter a code from their website to unlock the door. Once upstairs, it's a dimly-lit speakeasy style bar. I absolutely love the bookshelves filled with liquor bottles and the plush leather chairs. I only tried one cocktail, the name of which is escaping me, but it was made with a mix of bourbon, passion fruit, coconut, and some other delicious ingredients that I'm forgetting. Very good! I loved this place! I have always liked the "speakeasy ambiences" so when my husband find out about this one, he took me there as surprise - and... made me find it by giving me very few clues! Of course, being a speakeasy, the place is hidden: to access it you have to go into another bar, find the stairs that lead to the speakeasy, and have the right password to open the door. The entire search was fun! We came here late on a Sunday, and there were only two tables free. Both the stairs (covered in red carpet) and the small room were very dark, but this particular was just a nice/proper addition to the ambiance. The place is nicely decorated and also thanks to their lounge music in the background, it feels very warm, cozy and it's very relaxing. Unit B is our "treat yourself" bar we go to when we want to have a fun night out with good drinks in a cool atmosphere. Everyone loves a speakeasy! To find this place, enter Brass Tap from the patio, and you'll find the secret unlabeled door (picture included) which leads to a staircase up to the bar. There's a keypad to the left where you have to enter the passcode to open the door. The passcode changes regularly, and you can always find it on their website. The place is chill and dark with a cool atmosphere and great drinks and a great variety behind the bar. We love coming here. Cons: it's tiny and has been growing in popularity, so finding a place to sit is borderline impossible. Also (at the risk of me sounding old), the music is too loud to have a conversation at all, which is weird for a place where the setup is more for conversation (it's not a dancing type place). Finally, they used to have a seasonal menu that rotated frequently, but when we went last night (it's March), it was still the fall menu. Maybe they're just not changing it anymore? Overall, great place. None of these cons are a huge deal at all, and I would HIGHLY recommend checking it out. We'll definitely be back. read more

Located above the Brass Tap right off of US1/Federal Hwy in Flagler Village Unit B offers a dark, mysterious vibe with expertly, and I mean EXPERT level, crafted cocktails. A true speakeasy. Head to their website to get the code for their door. Enter your info and a personal code will be given to you. Once you enter brass tap you will have to find the door to enter and head upstairs. Drinks are expensive. Approximately $15+ each for one of their crafted cocktails. We enjoyed watching the bartenders make our cocktails. They were strong and delicious. They are only open Thursday - Saturday from 6pm to 2am. Also open Wednesday from 8pm - 2am. They do offer a cheese / olive board but no formal dining here. I would definitely recommend for the perfect place to kick off or end your evening. PArking is horrific in this area. Park in the garage at the manor but only for 4 hours max. You can park on the street if you're lucky to find a spot but that is 3 hours max. Secret doors, secret codes, dim lights and fully stocked classic looking bar. These are some of the things that come to mind when I think of a real speakeasy bar, and we finally have one in Fort Lauderdale. Sure, there are some bars categorized as speakeasy in the area, they do have the dim lights, dark furniture, prohibition era type of décor, but these are all (at least the ones I've been to) their own establishment, not really a hidden place or secret door to get in. No codes, no "mystery". The ones I've been in other states, they make you go into a hot dog shop and call on a tiny phone booth to get in, or go through a taco place enter the kitchen and behind the curtain there's the bar... Finding Unit B was this much fun. The door to it is somewhat hidden, you need a code, and they require certain dress code (especially during busy hours). As soon as you cross that door, there's a dare reddish color light, and the stairs to guide you up to the bar. Once there, you are transported to a different time and place. Leather couches, mirrors, chandeliers, and that beautiful classic bar, filled to the top. Mixologists are well dressed in white/ black/ gray colors, and ready to make any drink you desire. They have a menu of signature drinks, scotch and whiskeys, and of course all other spirits and liqueurs you can think of. Not in the mood for what's on the menu? Tell them what you usually like, they'll be happy to create or mix something based on your taste, and they will make it delicious and lovely presentation. My mixologist for the night was Mehdi and I could not have been happier with every drink he made for me. I wanted a rum based drink, not sweet, not too strong. Told him I liked sour and tart, fizzy drinks. He listened carefully, and came up with two different drinks for me that night that were outstanding, and a match to what I had requested. As my third drink, I ordered a regular mojito, no simple syrup and extra fizzy... for the first time I did not get the usual "no simple syrup, it will be too tart", instead I got "I am the same way, I'll add some bitters to make it even better". In all honesty, this is the best mojito I've had! While we were seated, talking, drinking, taking pictures, the staff would come around and clean out the empty glasses and asked if we needed anything else. We were able to order at the bar or from the comfort of our seats. I can't wait to go back, hopefully on a night they have live music (I think they do), and enjoy more of their concoctions, and excellent service. read more

Thanks to the New Times I read about this new speakeasy that opened up right across from where we live and I won't lie - I was intrigued. It's not every day you need a door code to get into a secret bar location, but that's exactly what you will need to open the door to Unit B. First, you'll need to go into the Brass Tap and to your right will be a door with a keypad to the left. To get the code you'll want to go to their site viewunitb.com because it changes each night they are open. Some things to keep in mind - while the dress code does say "dress to impress" we arrived not dressed up but were still allowed in, though I definitely noticed the bouncer give my flat sandals a once over. We arrived around 7:30pm so not exactly peak hours but maybe the dress code is enforced more strictly later on. Ladies, there's quite a bit of stairs and to be honest after a few drinks you'll definitely need to hang onto the rails as you leave since it's a steep decline as you leave. Onto the inside: It's dark but not as dark as some other speakeasies I've been to. There are dimly lit chandeliers and candles, although the menu was printed on a dark flyer which made it difficult to read. For seating, there are arm chairs and love seats spread across the floor. I do appreciate that it's limited to how many people can enter at a given time because it is a small space. While I sat waiting for my husband to come back with our drinks a guitar player set up and began playing a mix of flamenco and pop classics and it was a nice touch. As for the drinks, we both ordered the Paz y Estrella which was a tequila beverage. It was savory and smoky (my favorite type of drink). Prices are not printed on the menu but they are in the $15 range. Overall we enjoyed checking this new place out. If you are a fan of craft cocktails or places like Apothecary 330 but are interested in a more intimate setting then chances are you will enjoy Unit B. read more

Fantastic atmosphere! I enjoy a good speakeasy and Unit B didn't disappoint. What really made my experience was the atmosphere. The hidden entrance provided a fun sense of exclusivity and privacy. It was maintained by the fact that the Brass Tap employees feigned ignorance when asked about Unit B (it made the payoff for finding the entrance that much better). My first drink was an old fashioned. It was great! It even came with the type of artisanal transparent ice. Later, the bartender made my friend a peanut butter and jelly old fashioned. It blew our minds because it tasted exactly like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the form of a smooth drink. The drink was slightly pink but it was still transparent and lacked the grittiness I would have expected from muddling PB&J ingredients into a drink. We each had to get several of our own! read more

I've never been to a speakeasy (secret) bar before, so this was a surprise. First, you have to know where the secret door is and once you find it you have to know the code to open it. As I walked up the long stairs, I noticed it was dark, but inviting. Once you reach the top you see that it's cozy and the music is just perfect. The bar is huge and they have a large bourbon selection. Everyone there was respectful and seemed to be enjoying themselves. (Sorry, all we have for that order is the Grey Goose- no ginger ale, no cranberry, no godiva chocolate liqueur) So we left. Fyi...the place had 19 patrons, uet it took 1 of the 2 bartenders aboit 8 minutes to even greet us after we sat down. And the brass tap downstairs had 4 customers. 9:30 pm On a Saturday night with the surrounding establishments VERY busy. Now i know why. And so do you. Located upstairs from the Brass Tap, on US1, high up a flight of stairs, you must get past the bouncer, have a secret code to dial in that you can only get from the their website the DAY OF your visit, as it changes every day and the secret doors to the Speakeasy will open. Walk up a big flight of stairs to a lush, sexy, low lit "living room" atmosphere where "no man has gone before". Dressier attire, lIeather couches, wood tables and walls of brick is an invitation to a romantic evening of lounging with your partner or friends or both. Great artwork on the walls, some full of color. Once I got there, it was very hard to think of leaving as I was really chilled out, just what I needed. The bar in the back was full of secret ingredients and fruits for us to see and I knew then that the secret recipes of Unit B were going to be fruitful, diverse and refreshing. I was right. What a simple drink menu with complicated recipes for us to enjoy something different. It was hard for me to decide as I read the detailed ingredients of each of he drinks, but opted for the Paz Y Estrellas (oh I've heard of that), Tequila based drink..OUTSTANDING. There were names of recipes like "Better Than Sliced Bread", which my wife had, 21st Amendment, a Rum Hibiscus beautiful drink and others. The ingredients and garnishes were like no place around I've been to because that is what they do. The friends we were with were able to change some of the recipes and custom make some of the drinks with their own ingredients as well with the servers. We sat on two leather couches across from each other with a table in between and sipped a couple of different drinks. So relaxing with great conversation. We did go early, 6:30, and there were other parties already there sipping on drinks, but was not crowded or loud. I have been to a few in other states and there is even a couple in Orlando but never here. It was worth the wait though. I heard through the grapevine about this place opening up and and I told a few friends right away. We went through the procedure on line to get our entry code and we were set! Once slipping through the hidden wall and up the stairs we were greeted by a lounge club that was all kinds of cool. The covered up windows felt like a speakeasy along with the brickwork and time period right furniture. we went through a few of the drinks on the menu, and a few that were not. The 21st amendment was darn good. along with the Aqua Fava which wasn't on the menu but I asked for a whiskey drink that wasn't sweet. I can see this place to be a before dinner or after dinner spot for cocktails and specialty drinks. Parking is little difficult it's either on the street or in a parking structure with limited space. They have a dress code although I did see some people very casual dressed, probably because it was still pretty early in the evening.
