I met various contractors from different companies when I was thinking about remodeling my home and Effie was the most straightforward and honest about the costs and scope of work that needed to be done. When you remodel it is important that the contractor works well the designer and is very responsive to any questions that always come up during the process. Effie made himself available to answer any questions that came up during the remodel. His team completed the remodel of 2 1/2 bathrooms, kitchen, whole house flooring, all windows and doors. Our home went through a major renovation in 2018, pretty much down to the studs, and we were so disappointed with Unique Remodeling. We went with these guys because of their stellar reviews on finishing the job on time and attention to detail, but we experienced neither on our project. There was a definitely a rush to "get things done" at the end and there were no quality in the work provided, resulting in them having to come back frequently to fix small things, which was extremely annoying and inconvenient considering that we have 2 small children at home and are very busy with work. Our renovation was a very big job, and it was probably bigger than these guys could have handled, and while they are nice people, they did not do their best with our property and to have spent so much money, time, and energy to have to deal with so many things just being okay and mediocre, is very frustrating and maddening. The house looks fantastic aesthetically, but if you look at the details, so many shortcuts were taken and we are starting to see the consequences as things are starting to break, just 3 years in after a complete renovation! We recently sold our home, and the inspection came back with leaks in both bathrooms that were renovated, by the tub and by the sink faucets. We contacted Unique Remodeling and they came to take a look, and all we got was "we passed inspection...(implying so it wasn't our fault)". I've been to a few of those inspections, and sometimes the inspectors just walks through without looking at anything. If you want leaks in all of your bathrooms after just 3 years, feel free to go with them, as they do not take responsibility. We also did not plan to do exterior painting, and Omer said multiple times that they would be able to match the new stucco (from new windows, openings, etc) to our old stucco. Surprise, they couldn't, so he provided me with an estimate for exterior painting that was twice the amount as other specialized exterior painters (we had 3 vendors come to provide estimates, and all three estimates were very similar). TWICE! The professional plumbing inspection also mentioned that we missed a flow-back valve for our guest house, to which Omer replied "it was not required when we did the renovation", but per the professional plumbing company, it has been required since 1988. Omer straight up lied to us. During our final move, we had to remove a murphy door, which required a special key, which came with the murphy door installation kit, but it was never provided to us. So I asked Omer about the key, and he was extremely dismissive and pretty much said "go buy one on Amazon". So we did, then we found out it didn't work because they installed the door kit key BACKWARDS! We are so happy we don't have to deal with those little things at the house anymore. Looking back, we would've gone with a different contractor and it probably would have saved us a lot of time and money. We were really struggling on posting this review as it will negatively impact their rating on Yelp, and we like supporting local businesses. The truth is, we don't want another home owner to go through what we did, and if we had saw even one negative experience (if there was one), it might have changed our decision. read more

We hired Unique Home Remodeling to do an entire gut renovation of our house which included knocking down walls to open up a kitchen, creating a new bedroom out of a 2nd floor den, and completely changing the layout of two bathrooms. I worked directly with Effie who was the day to day lead on the project. Overall, I am very happy with the end result for the price we paid and am giving a 5 star rating based on value, responsiveness, and honesty. Before hiring Effie and his team I got quotes from 3 contractors, Unique Remodeling wasn't the cheapest but they were much less than the most expensive. I hired Effie because it was clear that he had deep experience actually doing the work. Most other contractors walked through and said they could do everything I wanted but Effie offered very clear feedback on certain design choices that he knew would be problematic (he was right). We had Omer remodel our 1980's master bathroom. He walked us through changing the layout and knocking out a wall to open the space up even more. We received estimates from two other contractors for this project, and Omer came with the best ideas and insights of the three. He was always avaliable to answer questions and give advice; he even went with us to floor and decor to help us choose the tile for the project! Throughout the project I felt confident that Omer wanted us to be truly happy with the end result and was willing to go above and beyond to make that happen. Were there bumps and unforeseen circumstances along the way? Yes, but Omer is an honest, hard working guy who would always make it right. The project did take longer than estimated, but I was especially sensitive to the timeline because we started the remodel when I was 6 months pregnant. We love our new bathroom! It was hard writing this review. I'll start out by saying Omer is a great guy, personally. He was one of few contractors willing to come out and do an on-site bid with us for our 3/4 bath remodel. We were extremely excited to have a contractor with the enthusiasm Omer did. He even gave an honest price quote and breakdown for the work. Unfortunately, long story short, our project was never started after nearly 4 months of back n forth. Omer had some personal hardships in the middle of our planning, which understandably prolonged the process, but we never saw any momentum after that. We were asked to provide him with detailed floor plans to get necessary floor plans, which we did. After 2-3 versions of those, the city of Torrance put us on hold for over 3 weeks then asked for more floor plans. This is an 8'x5' minor bath remodel. We couldn't help but expect our contractor to help guide us through this process, but it was all dropped onto us to figure out. That was it for us. Whenever you speak to people about their remodels, all they share is horrow stories. Our remodel of our kitchen and downstairs with Unique remodeling was as smoothe and easy and possible with the result just outstanding! Omer worked with us every step of the way from the planning and design offering helpful tips on cost, efficiancy and aesthetics through the demolition and every step of the construction. Omer was there almost daily to check on the subcontractors and is a perfectionist (noticing imperfections I would have never seen) making them redo things if necesary to get it perfect. I thing the biggest challenge in a remodel is when things don't go as planned and the unexpected happens. Omer is a problem solver who somehow had an elegant solutution to every problem that came up. Just a few examples: When a subcontractor cancelled last minute, he had another one as backup. When the door to the mirowave stuck out and hit the cabinet, he figured out how to adjust the cabinet in a way was not even noticable. When the oven didn't arrive and we needed to get a different one, he was able to adjust the cabinets to fit. When my friends speak about their remodel horrow stories, all I can say is that my experience was just amazing!! I cannot recommend Omer enough. We had our entire house renovated in 2017. Aesthetically, the house looks fantastic. However, as time goes we are discovering many appliances/fixtures were installed incorrectly or by taking "short cuts" and now we are dealing with the consequences. As big as a bathtub drain pipe not being connected to the main drain to as small as the toilet paper holder. Omer is a good guy, but you're going to have to really micro-manage the workers to make sure things are done properly. read more

Our experience with Unique Remodeling was outstanding. Omer and his crew were very easy to work with. Omer was always on time and followed up quickly with any questions or concerns we had. He and his crew really took the time to go over options and ideas with us. They really make you feel comfortable and trustworthy! We just finished a major refacing to the house, 3 bathrooms and the kitchen. Omer and Effie were a pleasure to work with. Their attention to detail is impeccable, and they are very straight forward to deal with. When we first started the project the house was unoccupied, someone broke into the house and stole some tools. Since then, since he lived close by, Omer would come by at night and check on the house. Omer took his time with me choosing the tiles and flooring, and he worked as hard as he could to get the best pricing on the chosen designs. He is well connected with suppliers to get contractor discounts on appliances, tiling, and flooring. Both of them were very responsive, great work ethic. First off so you understand my back ground, I love to complain when things aren't in my favor, on the flip side I do compliment excellent work. I called Omer from Unique Remodeling with the intention of him being 1 of 3 quotes to do work on my house in preparation to sell my home. He was the first quote and I canceled the other 2 quotes after he gave me the very responsible price, he wrote the contract up, and also said he would help me along the way as this was a whole home remodel. There were add ons along the way that your typical contractor would have added to the price, where Unique Remodeling took care of free of charge. He kept true to his word, and after it was all said and done he continues to help me out. I have never been a Yelper before but Unique Remodeling has inspired me to write my first review. They came in to fix our partially remodeled bathroom which was poorly executed by a previous contractor that we had to let go. Needless to say we were very cautious and concerned when it comes to selecting a replacement contractor because we have somewhat lost trust in them in general. After interviewing at least 10 more, we decided to go with Omer from Unique Remodeling because he was honest and patient in his approach, able to address all our concerns, gave us some new great ideas and quoted us a very reasonable price. Through their suggestion, we demolished the whole bathroom and started all over ( including moving our toilet to a new position, installing all new electrical and plumbing, wall demolition, etc...). We thought it was going to be another stressful journey but Omer and Effie were there to smooth things out. Effie has a lot of experience, is very prompt and precise in his response and his work, and not to mention he has a great sense of humor. Omer, on the other hand, is very personable, attentive to details, has vast knowledge on many subjects ( even outside of his expertise) and is a very quick problem solver. Omer remodeled our bathroom and did a wonderful job. About a month after completing the project, one of the lighted mirrors I purchased failed. I called Omer and asked if i could hire one of his electricians to come to our house and replace the mirror and fix the wiring. Since Omer was not responsible for the broken mirror, I told him I would pay his electrician. Omer personally came to our house, fixed the problem and refused to accept any money. This is typical for Omer who is a wonderful man who always puts his customers first. read more

We were getting ready to have our first baby, and wanted to get the house spruced up before she came. We got multiple bids and found Effie and Omer to be the most honest and straight forward contractor, not to mention having a fair price. Working with Omer and Efie at Unique Remodeling is one of the RARE pleasurable contractor experiences I love to tell people to let them know there are HONEST, straightforward, and trustworthy general contractors that over deliver and EXCEED expectations instead of underwhelm and charge twice as much or take twice as long as they originally quote. This was my first experience with home buying and doing a major remodel at the same time so I researched local companies online and meet with 5 different general contractors before we closed the purchase and went through my plans for a major kitchen and living room remodel. Many contractors gave me vague generalities and expectations of the overall price and timeline but Omer was the only one who literally jumped into my attic and crawled under my house to personally confirm the structural answers he needed to know before quoting our project. From that first interaction I knew he valued giving honest and straightforward answers to his clients and literally would jump into action to get those answers which gained my respect and trust to start our remodeling project. Keeping to our timeline was crucial as after we closed on the house purchase we had less to 2 months to do the entire remodel to avoid paying double mortgage and rent. They gave us a detailed timeline and committed to completion in 7-8 weeks when other contractor quoted 3-4 months. Our project had numerous framing and foundational items such as knocking down a load bearing wall, creating new entryways and doors to the exterior and garage, pouring steps, brick and tile work, new electrical box and wiring, and reinforcing the load on the structure which required an architect and structural engineering approval from the city. Most people who have had to go through the same process of obtaining structural approvals and permits said the process could take 3-4 weeks alone, but Omer literally took our plans to the city, talked to the structural engineer and got the approval in less than 4 hours! Again yet another sign that Omer and Efie's team have the right experience, knowledge, and resources to get a project done on schedule. As we started our project, Omer and Efie were literally there everyday and were committed to keeping the project on schedule and completed at a high quality standard. They were able to address every issue that came up and were truly working together as a partner with us the whole time. They gave us honest input, even saving us money and steering us away from unnecessary changes instead of trying to run up costs. They listened to our needs and valued our input and cared about the details and quality of the finished result, even catching details that I missed or did not think were flaws at first glance. When I show people the before and after pictures they are stunned by the finished results, and I still get the wow factor whenever someone walks into our house for the first time.
