This was a surprise spot to visit. My wife, a cosmetologist, usually cuts and styles my hair, yet…read moreshe is becoming unable to do that on a regular basis, so I was looking for a spot around the Navy base as they would be more versed with a more military style cut. Most areas looked like it was trying to style certain types of hair for certain demographics, with fades, and beard styles, and cut line designs, all things I don't need. This location popped up, looked like a more essential barber style so I made a reservation and went.
They use a reservation system online, to my knowledge they don't have an app for it, register online and it's pretty strait-forward. Reservations are at some odd times tho, going every 5 minutes, rather than most places that work off of every 15 minutes.
Prices are reasonable I guess. Last time I paid for a basic cut was 20 years ago and it cots me $20 plus tip. This one asks $40 for the basic, but that includes shampoo and dry and the cut.
I saw Payton today, and she was so patient. I didn't even try to explain the cut I was going after, I called my cosmo wife and let her explain, which I feel helped a little. It was still some experimentation, but with some time we got it where it needed to be.
Payton has been doing hair, I was told, for 11 years. She's pretty quick, flipping that trimmer and comb around quickly. A bit different than I am accustomed to, but it's her style and it works. I will say, she doesn't move around the chair while you stare at the mirror, she is constantly spinning that chair around to position me to her location. In 50 plus years of haircuts, that was a first. At first it was a bit trying, but with constant chat it was bearable.
The place is smaller than pictures portray. When I was there it was an all female staff with a lot of open chairs. When you arrive they ask if you want anything to drink, I assumed they meant water or soda, nope, they have beer and whiskey on sight as well.
It was a great haircut, she got it how I am used to. My wife is happy with it, so that's saying a lot! I will be back so Payton can spin me around the chair again.
