I left a 5-star review a couple of years ago, talking about how kind and friendly Steve and his wife Angel were. At one point, Steve even brought up the idea of me working for them, despite my background being in IT and the hospitality industry. I found it strange--why would I leave a stable, decent-salaried job for an hourly position in a field I had no experience in? Honestly, it came off as a bit desperate and didn't make much sense to me. One day, Steve wasn't in and Angel offered to cut my hair. Since I had always been happy with Steve's work, I thought, "Why not?" That turned out to be a mistake. The haircut was uneven, crooked, and just looked off. That's when I remembered Steve once mentioning that he had taught Angel how to cut hair herself--she never went to school for it. Suddenly, everything made sense. I texted Steve about the issue and didn't hear back. I followed up with photos, still no response. When I eventually called him, he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. Frustrated by the lack of accountability, I just hung up. At the time, I didn't want to make a fuss since I had already left a glowing review. But seeing that review now, I can't help but reflect: if I were in Steve's position and a long-time customer reached out with a concern, I would've at least acknowledged it and tried to make things right. When I read the website for Straight Razor Steve's... and he only does Rockabilly, Pompadour and Gentlemen's cuts, with NO BEIBER OR BEATLES haircuts... I knew these people could handle high volume hair with style! I'm sick of people pretending they are barbers saying "I can do that"... and then having no idea what to do w/ killer volume! I highly recommend Fender's Barber Shop. I'm sure Straight Razor Steve does just as good of a job as his wife, Angel. But, Angel was the one that cut my hair today. It was the best haircut that I have had in years. Her attention to detail, suggestions and skill, is why I have found my new barber. Their barber shop is inside a Fiesta grocery store. But, is well worth looking for. Stepping into the barber shop is like stepping back in time. The decorations and ambiance makes you feel right at home. They don't take reservations. Steve, the owner and operator runs this barber chair out of a 'Fiesta' grocery store. But don't let that discourage you. The sitting area and solo barber chair are separated from the store and once you're inside you can enjoy sitting in a comfy sofa while reading some choice hot rod magazines. You see, Steve, like so many of us, is a car guy. You can tell by the photos on the wall as well as by the custom pin stripe art (done by Steve), that adorns almost everything in the shop. All in all, if you're a car guy you will find a kindred spirit here. The haircut is done in the classic mens barber style. That means you get scissors and not this 'electric clipper only' nonsense that has almost taken over the barbers/unisex hair salons in the country. Steve prides himself on a clean work space and clean tools. "I disinfect my scissors and put a new blade in my razor after every customer", was one of the first things he told me. Also, instead of picking a haircut out of a catalog, Steve just asks how you like your hair and what you do with it, if anything, then proceeds to cut accordingly. Once the main haircut is done, out comes the straight razor and hot lather. Because after each haircut Steve does the detail work around the ears and back of the neck with a fresh new razor blade...and it's awesome. I've never had a haircut finished like that, and frankly I think all my future haircuts will involve this kind of detail work, because I don't see myself going anywhere else for a long time. If you come in and there are one or two people ahead of you, you will have to wait for a while. That's not a deal breaker though, because once you sit down, Steve's level of customer service is second to none. His attention is completely focused on the customer in his chair. He makes certain that you are satisfied with your hairdo and even gives you your choice of palm aide or hair gel. Even though Steve has only been open at this location for two weeks as of this writing, everyone waiting for their turn, does so very patiently because they know that Steve will take great care of them. Besides, even while you're waiting you can help yourself to complementary water and RC cola in the fridge, HOW COOL IS THAT? If I were to give any downsides, and i'm really being nit picky here. It's that if you're in a hurry, you should wait until you have a day where you can spend a little extra time getting your hair cut, because great work takes time, and that's not a bad thing. So bottom line, if you like to talk classic hot rods and are a fan of Good haircuts and HOT LATHER SHAVES go see Steve he'll take great care of you. Drove over 20 miles to go see him after reading the reviews and he delivered. He does take his time perfecting the hair to exactly how you want it which in my opinion is one of his best traits. I have a somewhat oddly shaped head and after I told him about it, he worked around it and the haircut came out near perfect. Haircuts are $30 which is pretty tough for me [as I am a student, wish they had student discount :) ] but I think it's quite worth it. Used hot shaving foam and a hot towel during the haircut. Found this place at the last minute. Was in the area for a DRs appointment . Hubs needed an appointment for a shave ASAP and it was 5:00 pm. Called around to 3-4 other Barber shops the all close at 6:00 and had nothing available. Stumbled across this place so glad we did. Firstly they are open til 10:00 walk-in's only. If you live in Fort Worth and you go elsewhere, you're wasting your money. And probably have a bad haircut. Steve is the best barber in town. I did 8 and a half years in the military, that's roughly 400 haircuts, if you want to just take my word for it based on that feel free. I started going to Steve because he was the only barber in town that could do a fade exactly the same every time AND use a straight razor. You gotta get your cut finished with a straight razor or it's just not a proper cut. Now he does a comb-over good enough for me that I might run for public office. He is an actual barber in every sense of the word, I actually only even know of 2 other people in town that use a straight razor. His shop is extremely clean, he is very professional and courteous and all his tools and utensils are clean. Pay attention to his hours, walk-ins only, cash only. You step inside a man cave. Posters, hub caps, art, star wars, and more guyish stuff on the wall. I sat on the comfy couch and watched Steve do his art on two other guys before my husband. He is really precise and articulate with his hair cuts and shaves. He even trimmed a dude's nose hairs. He has a lady in there doing hair as well. I assume it's his wife. He's open Monday-Friday 9-5. Starting in February he will be taking appointments only. The chalk board said hair cuts were $30 and shaves were $40. I was looking for a barber shop that could give me the comb over taper cut that I wanted, and I found it! Although I did my homework and even brought in a picture, Steve did a outstanding job and was great about asking me questions to make sure all of my preferences were taken into account. As advertised, he uses a fresh razor blade to shave the neck and even clipper off the light fuzz on my ears. He'll even offer to shave any hairs between your eyebrows and run the guarded clippers across them to remove any bushy strays, but nothing that will make you look feminine. I went to the shop at @ 10 AM on Tuesday and only had 1 customer in front of me. It was nice to have an RC Cola and soak in the ambience of the shop. I had gone to Great Clips for the first 20 years of my life; until my supervisor at work suggested Steve. I went and I was skeptical because it was located inside a Fiesta Mart, but you don't even notice it once you're in his shop. It's so relaxing when you walk in he asks you to sign and and help yourself to some RC Cola in the fridge. My first time in the chair I told him I had gone to Great Clips all my life and I had never had a true barber shop haircut. On top of that I told him I had no idea what I wanted, he looked at my hair then pulled up pictures on his laptop and found a great style. The best part of the whole experience is when Steve shaves your neck line with a straight razor then wraps a hot towel around your face. I've only been twice; the second time I pulled up a picture on my phone of what I wanted and he took what I wanted and tailored it to fit me and my beard. Steve is unlike any barber I've ever been to. My old barber was an old man who cherry picked what days he was open, and frankly just didn't give that great of a haircut. I was eager to try out Steve's when my manager told me about his experience, how awesome Steve is, and the fact that he works out of a Fiesta Grocery store. When you walk into his actual shop, you instantly forget you're in a grocery store. All you hear is the subtle music, the turning of the barber pole, and the light chat between those that are on the sofa waiting for their turn in the chair. Plus, he always tells guests to help themselves to his fridge which is stocked with RC Cola and bottled water. When I first sat in the chair, Steve felt my hair and told me that I'm going bald. Naturally, I was pretty taken back, but I told him to do what he thought would be best for my hair. He took it up high and tight on the sides and left it long up top for a nice side part. I was blown away. I have never had anyone take so much care and pride when cutting my hair. The haircut looked awesome, and he finished up with a straight razor behind the neck, and a hot towel around the head. Overall, Steve's Barber Chair offers more than a hair cut. It's an experience. There's nothing like sipping an RC Cola and chatting with Steve and the other guests. Steve's been cutting hair for about five years if I remember correctly. He doesn't take reservations, so if you are in a rush, get there as soon as the doors open. He is very conservative on haircuts. In that, unless you explicitly ask for something, you won't get it. It is inside a grocery store. Steve is the best. It's a real barber shop. It isn't something that I can adequately explain or describe. It's an atmosphere... a vibe. The detail. The service. The craftsmanship. I was a little cautious about going to a barber in Fiesta. I wasn't sure that the situation would be right for a 50+ white guy. I've been to other barbers that turned out to cater to the Hispanics, and felt like I was a real oddball there. But That is not the situation at Steve's. He's all about giving men a good, clean haircut. Just don't be in a hurry, though. This is not a 10-minute ProCut. This is so much more. Brought my son here to get a haircut and shave before Senior pictures this Friday. He'd always gone to Super Cuts for haircuts and had never had a professional shave. Given his beard was pretty scraggly, I thought it would be a treat to get him a hot shave. All I can say is wow! The expertise with which Steve cut his hair and shaved his beard was worth every penny. My son was easily in the chair for an hour and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I joined Yelp to make sure I reviewed this barber shop...so that in itself says something about the experience I had. First let me touch on the location. Although it seemed strange, it was actually one of the highlights of my visit. He is inside a Fiesta supermarket and the barber shop has two large windows that look into Fiesta which almost act as two large colorful photographs or (I'm a photographer and the visual was amazing to look at). As soon as you walk into the shop any noise from the store is cancelled out and you are greeted with classic rock/country/awesome tunes and surrounded by cool memorabilia and legit pinstriping artwork (which Steve does himself and can be purchased). He has comfortable couches and a fridge with rc cola and water for free. He thanked me for coming and told me to make myself at home :). He really took his time with my haircut and finished off the cut with a straight razor trim. He styled it to make sure I liked it. Steve is an old school barber who takes his time and takes his craft seriously. Support local businesses that do a great job and go the extra mile with their service. I started going to Steve about 6 months ago after searching Yelp for people who could cut pompadours. He had several good reviews, so I decided to give him a shot. (Those reviews all disappeared when he moved locations.) Steve does a very good job, and takes his time. I think he's a perfectionist, and I like that. He gives good advice on maintaining your hairstyle. Honestly, I don't know how to describe how he's doing a good job, because I don't know that much about haircuts, but the fact of the matter is I always leave there happy. I like my hair when I leave that place, and it looks good. I am 33 and this has never been the norm for me. Other than a great haircut, Steve is nice.
