My husband and I checked out the National Museum of Mathematics last weekend after I had heard…read moreabout the museum's new building and opening on Instagram. We don't have kids, and I maybe naively thought a museum about math would be interesting and fun for childfree adults. There are two main reasons for my lower review. One is that many of the exhibits were not working when we visited. I'd say about 10% of the exhibits weren't working yet or were already out of order since the museum opened. A few more stopped working while we were using them and needed to be rebooted by staff. The second reason had to do with the adult supervision of many of the kids. I was immediately aware that almost all of the other visitors when we were there were families. I knew that meant that we'd have to be patient and let kids use the exhibits first. But I got frustrated pretty quickly by parents not even acknowledging when their child and the adult themselves would walk up and sort of take over an exhibit we were using. There was one occasion we were using an exhibit - we were standing to place the weights on the bars and a child and their parent or grandparent sat down on the floor between us and exhibit we were using and started using it themselves. At another exhibit, we had waited for a child to finish using an exhibit and as we were about to get our turn, a child and his parent walked in before us and started to use it. These both happened on the main level and only about a few minutes apart, and they definitely made our experience at the museum a little frustrating. Maybe in the future they'll offer adult-only evenings to make it a little easier for different visitors to have experiences more tailored to their needs. All that being said, a few of the exhibits were interesting or fun. But for $30 per adult? It definitely wasn't worth it to me, especially given all of the broken or not yet working exhibits. But I realize now that my husband and I are probably not the target visitors to the museum. If you're visiting with a family/kids, you may have a very different experience. (I will note that I found the complexity of the math of many of the exhibits to be appropriate for older kids and adults, not necessarily for younger kids.) But I checked it off, and I have no intention of returning to this museum.

We came to Fieldhouse to attend a birthday party. The facility had several soccer turf fields, gymnastics area, and couple of basketball courts. The lobby area had a ton of awards, medals and trophies that all the teams won. There were multiple vending machines as well. There were several party rooms at the back side. The rest rooms were kids friendly, as they had mini sinks at lower height for smaller kids. There were multiple staff members assigned to conduct the party. First they took the kids to basket ball courts where they did some relay running, played dodgeball and then did rope tug wars. They took the kids to fountains for water break few times. After the activities, the kids went back to party room where they were served pizzas, fruits, cheese platter, juice and sodas. The pizzas were decent. Finally they orchestrated the birthday song, assisted with cake cutting ceremony and handed slices of cakes to everyone. Overall the service from them was nice.

NY Kids Club was recommended to me as an option and they were available. I got lucky. Having the location to ourselves was a big plus. As opposed to other locations where multiple families are hosting parties in close proximity. If you have a setup (balloons, etc), you might want to have someone help with the arrangements to expedite...there are plenty of sites (we used Thumbtack) that are great for projects like this and inexpensive. The gym area is "kid heaven"! All of the kids LOVED it. Their staff did a great job helping us run the itinerary including setting up the food tables, serving food, serving the cake, organizing the games and activities, and more. Overall I was very impressed with the experience and my son's first birthday party was a big success.

It was a great way to meet families and my daughter has really enjoyed it. She has enrolled in Play N Learn, Music, Art and School Skills. We have also enjoyed the Special Events that they throw around holiday times. We signed up for the lifetime membership offering. It has been a great source of fun for our daughter. She is comfortable there, has made some great friends (so have I) and has definitely helped with her development. The staff is awesome, attentive and caring. They have a great make-up policy and Stephanie is really flexible and always responsive when I had a question(in-person or email). They are so accommodating and look forward to attending the class and seeing the regulars every week! She has enjoyed the Music class and I loved getting the videos from her nanny and seeing her dancing around without a care in the world. The Art class was a great introduction to more or a structured class. It helped ease her into following a schedule and paying attention. She is so excited each week showing us her masterpieces! She started in the School Skills one day a week to help with transition to a drop-off. Knowing that they look out for her since she gets nervous keeps me at ease. Since she is so comfortable there, it has been a nice option and I can see the difference in her independence. I would have liked if they had more Music and Play N Learn class options beyond 28 months. And Art beyond 36 months. Had I known the lack of classes beyond 28 months, I probably would not have purchased the lifetime membership (up to Age 5) as there really are no class options unless you enroll in School Skills which is not part of the membership. Overall, I would recommend Gymboree for infants and up to age 2 1/2 and for School Skills beyond that age. We are forever grateful to Gymboree for providing our daughter with a happy place and what she may even consider her second home :) Thank you Stephanie, Sofia, Lauren and Mike!!

Soooo many bodies!…read more I'm guilty of visiting this playground only on weekends, but "crowded", here, takes a new meaning. Make sure to repeatedly warn your child of paying attention to kids running wild in all directions. Parents seem to be MIA... The playground is quite modern... there's even a half sphere kids can climb on (bare feet, or it won't work). Plenty of swings and climbable options. The place is divided into two areas for children of different ages... both very crowded (did I mention that?). There's a slide kids can use after climbing over big rocks... not the safest option when there are too many kids lining up (and pushing each other) to do it. With little else around to have your child move, this is the forced option. The silver lining is that you're in freaking Union Square, with all sorts of food (or booze... you may need some after a visit to this place) available to you.

My son was registered at NYC Elite Gymnastics last year. As a warning for all parents signing up,…read moreyou must pay for the full month of classes regardless of whether the gym cancels classes or has no classes because of holidays. No credit is issued. My son was registered for November and December. The gym did not have classes in half of November and half of December because of the holidays. They do not give you credit for the missed classes so you end up paying twice the price and the monthly tuition is pricey to begin with! I called them on this and they said they only allow make-up classes BUT (and here is the kicker) they do not track the make-up classes AND it cannot be applied to your child's future classes for the same time and date AND you have to call them the week before to schedule the class on their availability, not yours. Since my son only takes gymnastics once a week on a certain day and time, it's really hard to find a second day and time in the same week for the makeup classes because all the classes we want are usually taken (weekdays after school and weekend mornings). Since they don't even track make-up classes, it seems like most parents end up not using them anyway. This seems really shady to me. We do like the classes but as a note, please sign up for the months where there are no holidays.
