My gripe with them is more with whoever decides to send two troopers to McAdenville to control the big crowd. I am familiar with the ordinances and I am aware that the town is patrolled by the Cramerton Police Department. The fact that there are 600K vehicles visiting each December means that on the average there are 20K cars every day and if the Cramerton Police Department does not participate in controlling the traffic and I say this because all I saw after a two hour drive for 1.4 miles before I got to the very entrance were two State troopers, are you kidding me? no wonder it was chaotic with so many Johnny Come Lately cutting the single line. So the two State Troopers really put their lives on the line every night in McAdenville because 10K cars per person is just too much to keep under control. I know it is free, so how about start charging 10 bucks per car, I would gladly pay it if the traffic flow would be orderly and faster. Get 5 more troopers and pay the overtime

Triple A called everyone they could to try and get someone to rescue us. Two women and 2 children ages 7 and 13. The young black state patrol that came to assist us simply stated that he would not assist us because there were 4 of us. I asked him if we were to sleep on the side of interstate like this all night since he would not help us get off of the highway. He told me sleeping overnight in the car would be just fine since he was not helping. To serve and protect. Not in that state. Big shout out to the state official body recovery guy who transported us safely after 3 hours of waiting and found us a motel to stay in. I have of family in law enforcement. What a disgrace that State Patrol was to you all and your state.

Obviously nobody answers the phone, but thats why you go in since you'll have to regardless of what it is your asking. This is as fast as a post office gets, service is not slow by any means. The Monroe location has the worst group of employees I've ever encountered, so this was a very pleasant surprise.

Today was the first day that Union County opened its newest library, Southwest Regional Library…read more Many of us have been waiting for an updated, modern library that will serve the needs of the residents. Without a doubt, the Director has done a phenomenal job in bringing this creation to life. First of all, this library is almost 4 times the size of the old Waxhaw library and there is plenty of parking spaces for parents, students and residents without having a long walk. When you walk in, you're warmly greeted by a large staff of friendly faces. There is a map to help you navigate where to go. Aesthetically, the library is one of the best libraries I've seen in the Charlotte area. The decor and atmosphere blend very well and even when the library is full, it still has a calmness to it. One of the first things I noticed was the huge children's book section which should more than accommodate any child's interests and reading level. As you move through the library, you'll notice they have study rooms which as first come, first served guaranteed for at least an hour. They have two stem sections, one of them has a 3D printer 3D computers and PS5. The other has smaller activities for children. There are several areas for reading, relaxation and if you want a snack or beverage, there is a small area for that as well. The adult book section is substantially larger as well with a much better variety of authors and genres whereas the old Waxhaw library was stuck in the past. When it's time to check out, you can either do self checkout at a couple locations inside or at the help desk. Overall, I'm truly impressed with our newest library and all of its offerings. The customer service is excellent and there is plenty of staff to happily assist if you need.

Located on the lane that leads into the cemetery, this marker points out some of the pre-Civil War…read morehistory. North Carolina was a "slave" state and so markers like this are a valuable reminder of times past so that we don't slip back. The marker reads, "Free black served as a Baptist pastor at Rocky River Church until law in 1831 barred blacks from public preaching. Buried 500 yards west." Online, there is more information. "Historian Guion Griffis Johnson identified three preachers--John Chavis, Henry Evans, and Ralph Freeman--as "probably the three best-known free Negroes of the antebellum period" in North Carolina. The story of "Ralph" (also spelled Ralf and, occasionally, Rafe) is less well known than that of the other two. Born a slave, Ralph belonged to John Culpeper (1764-1841), minister to the Baptist congregation at Rocky River in Anson County. In 1806 Culpeper was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the first of six terms, the last concluding in 1829. When he rode off for the District, Culpeper left the church in the hands of his faithful servant, who performed all duties as a supply pastor, among them sermons, weddings, funerals, and the like. Baptist minutes in 1809 list him as "Elder Ralf," while beginning in 1811 his name appears as Ralf Freeman indicating that he had been freed. Described as "perfectly black" with a smiling countenance, Freeman was popular with members of both races in his home church and preached to Baptists in neighboring counties and across the Pee Dee region." "In 1831, in the fevered atmosphere following the insurrection led by Nat Turner in southeastern Virginia, the North Carolina legislature enacted a law forbidding blacks from preaching to gatherings where slaves of different masters were gathered. A petition was circulated expressing the "earnest desire" that Freeman be permitted to exercise his gift of preaching the Gospel. It garnered eighty-three signatures but failed to gain the support of legislators. Freeman is said to have been "greatly mortified" by the turn of events and thereafter largely disappears from the historical record. He transferred his membership to Bethlehem, an anti-missionary Baptist church about five miles east of Rocky River, and was buried there around 1838." Van Wyck used to be a brick making area, but now is just an intersection with the post office and a general store that also sells fire arms and ammunition. I was genuinely surprised when I first moved to Waxhaw and saw their library for the first time. If…read moreyou're not paying attention then you'll miss it because it's a small house that has been repurposed into a library. The location is problematic because it's in a neighborhood off the main road in Waxhaw which would confuse some. When I went into the library, I noticed the lighting was poor and the selection of books and other materials was severely lacking quantity and quality. With a library this small, it's difficult to find a well known author or title by African Americans or other minorities. I'm not insinuating that this is done on purpose because I believe the county or city thinks that the demographics of Waxhaw, Marvin wouldn't be interested in these genres. I did find other books that catered more to a certain demographic of a certain political affiliation. If you're wanting a better library overall and you live in Waxhaw, I'd suggest going to the main library in Monroe. You can thank me later
