At the time of this review, I've been coming to UKF for about three months. I do one boxing class…read moreper week as more of a way to mix up my normal workouts. When I was looking for a boxing class to attend in the East Valley, I looked at all the suggestions on Yelp, Facebook groups, and even the social media accounts of the locations. When I look for a boxing class, I want to learn technique, get a solid workout, and have fun. I'm not looking for a cardio kickboxing class or an ultra-intense boxing class for high-level boxers. I enjoy the workout, and I enjoy the movements. If you're wondering if you would fit in with the boxing classes, I would say that there are all shapes, ages, and levels at the classes I've been to. I've done drills with high schools, people that are middle-aged, and even those older than me. Everyone is welcome at UKF, and the coaches make sure you work within your level. They wouldn't partner you up with someone much more advanced or vice-versa. I purchased a ten-session package after I did the free one-day trial, and it has been a great investment, IMO. I always finish drenched in sweat, and from what I've heard, some other guys that track their caloric output are pushing 700+ calories burned in a one-hour session. One of the cooler things that I've seen is the kid's classes. The few times I've gone in the evening, it's right after the kid's classes, and these kids ROCK! They have the footwork and pack a punch! Very awesome to see kids building confidence and having fun learning how to box!

I had the pleasure of visiting this gym since I'm in the area visiting family for Thanksgiving. My…read moregym asked if I could visit and work out. Since it was okay with them, I went. This gym is located in a little strip mall in Gilbert near one of the many Fry's. :) It was a little different walking into this gym since I've only ever worked out at my "home" gym location. Upon walking in, the first thing I noticed was how large the gym was. It was so spacious and the rounds were spread out. There was even room in the middle to do trainer led drills and not run into anyone. The set up for the 9rounds is all the same. You start at round 1 which is a jump rope drill and you end with round 9 which is usually some ab work drill. Another thing I noticed about this place was that the had bands all over the gym. I was going to go straight for the bands but decided to do what was written on the boards instead. I met April and she was super nice and friendly. She watched over me but not in a creepy way...more so if I didn't understand a workout that was written or if I needed some help in general. She asked me questions about my gym and I asked her some questions as well. It's a little hard to keep up a conversation while working out but we made due. We did my trainer led drill and I loved it. I was in the red rather quickly since April made me work for it but it's all good. I mean that's what I was there for anyway. After my workout, I was putting my stuff away and I noticed that they had some awesome shirts/tanks. Although, the ones that they had displayed weren't in my size so I asked if they had any in the back. Unfortunately, they only had the larger sizes but we were able to find a different one that I hadn't noticed that was in my size. I quickly bought that one. I really wanted new wraps and new gloves but they had the same offerings we do at my gym so I decided against buying new ones. My overall experience here was awesome. As a visiting member, I received the same hospitality as if I was their gym member. It was a warming and welcoming feeling. I'm so glad I was able to get in a workout on my vacation and at a gym I love. Thank you 9round Gilbert and thank you April for treating me like your 9round family. I had the best time. See you next time I come in to work out. Thanks.

I am stronger than I was when I started and look forward to going 4x a week! It is super convenient, because there are no start times. Everyone wants to be a badass at some point, don't they? I had been wanting to get back into…read moremartial arts for some time. Since AZ Combat Sports offers new students a free first class, I joined Ms. Official Badass Grace O. in an evening hour-long Muay Thai session of punching, pivoting and sweating. After filling out the necessary paperwork (A form basically saying don't sue them If you get hurt practicing, etc.), I was given a tour, and introduced to many cool and experienced students in BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-jitsu), MMA, and Muay Thai. The class started with some cardio (Jump rope), then moved on to stretching and some muscle strength exercises. Since everyone else was not a newbie, the assistant instructor then gave me an individualized intro class where I learned the basics of punching while the others practiced kicks and punches with a partner. Since I used to take kenpo, a lot of the muscle memory I've retained doesn't fit into the style of Muay Thai fighting, at least where striking and hand movements are concerned. The instructor was patient though as he guided me through the different moves. I have to say I was a little disappointed I didn't get to kick anything today but I understand that you gotta start with the basics if you want to build a solid foundation of skills. Compared to a krav maga class I took a few years ago, I liked the atmosphere here better, and I appreciated the personal instruction. While the krav maga class has you jump right into action, practicing attack scenarios, the Muay Thai class focused more on form so that the punches and kicks you deliver have the most bang for your buck. I'm still debating whether to get back into a more traditional martial arts or more of a combat sport like Muay Thai, but if I do decide to go into Muay Thai this is the place to be!

I was so lucky to find this place and I just want to say that if you're interested in martial arts, specifically Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai, LOOK NO FURTHER! This is the spot!
