I lived in a Unif property for four years and never once had a single complaint with them (or a rent increase). Maintenance was super smooth, putting a request in the app and they would come the next day every time to fix the issue. One time a roommate broke one of the blinds in her room, and our landlords.. replaced them with nicer blinds. When we were renewing our lease we got an email asking if there was anything that needed upgrading in the house or that bothered us. Eric and Allen were always very responsive, we get cookies on the holidays, 10/10 renting experience would rent again. read more

Unif has easily been the best property management company I've ever interacted with in the city. I've lived in one of their properties for 3 years. They are always incredibly prompt in handling my requests. They have been a lifesaver for everything from providing referral letters for future landlords and helping me with paperwork, to checking for mail that was sent to my old address and quickly addressing maintenance issues. I've even had to call them when I was locked out, and they responded promptly. To top it all off, they sent lovely cookie baskets during the holidays, which was a thoughtful and personal touch. Unif's team has consistently shown a level of professionalism and care that is rare to find. I highly recommend them as a property management company that is reliable, kind, and genuinely helpful. read more

TLDR: Unif manages rentals how tenants dream a management company would. Unif has been the best rental experience we've ever had. We lived in a Unif managed property for 4 years between 2020-2024. The property was updated with new appliances. All of our maintenance requests were answered promptly and often resolved within 24 hours, even for minor things. Not only that, but we never got the "landlord special," things were always fixed right or replaced and the whole maintenance team is wonderful. While fixing a shower knob for us, they noticed the bathroom light fixtures had developed some rust, so they replaced them. We didn't even have to ask. The rent seemed reasonable and they never raised it the whole time we were there. They have an easy online system for rent payments and maintenance requests. We genuinely loved our experience with Unif and would rent from them again in a heartbeat. Unif spoiled us and we miss renting from them! read more

Stayed in one of their units for about 4 years. I always had a good experience with management. They never seemed to take advantage of us, the rent increases were pretty reasonable, and during covid they even reduced our rent. Overall I would recommend anyone looking for an apartment in San Francisco consider renting from these folks as well! read more

I lived at a Unifinc property for 1.5 years from mid 2023 - late 2024. Eric and team truly standout as great, responsive service providers and remedied almost all our maintenance requests within 24 hours. The property we lived in was well maintained with new appliances, and most of our requests were for minor fixes and repairs. Our most serious request was for pest control after some mice decided to move into our home over the holidays. When we reached out to the management team, they were quick to send the maintenance team out to survey the property for holes and escalated to hiring an exterminator to fix the problem permanently. Unif also sent us a holiday basket with sweet treats and baked goods in it, which is something none of my past landlords/property managers have done before. If the opportunity arose for me to live in one of their properties again, I absolutely would! Unlike other companies, Unif really does care about providing great service to tenants. read more

I lived in a Unif managed building for 5 years. Eric and the rest of his team are awesome. They are super smooth and easy to interact with, always fixed any issues we had, and rent was always affordable and well priced. Strongly recommend them! read more

I lived in a Unif property in the Mission District for two years. During that time, they were prompt to respond to issues via maintenance and correspondence by email and phone. During the holidays, they even sent us little treats. We had two contacts, Eric and Allen, whom I found pleasant to communicate with. We had the fortune to have a consistent maintenance crew come to our location, who were helpful and friendly to talk to, especially the lead person, Miguel. I have passed along open Unif properties to friends who are looking for new places, and I would consider living in another Unif property in the future. read more

I moved to SF 2 years ago and had the pleasure of renting a Unif property when I first got here. Eric was very professional throughout the entire application process and was responsive to any messages throughout our whole time living at the property. Matthew, who would often help with the property maintenance , was also incredibly professional and friendly! Our time living at a Unif property was great and I'd look for them when the time came to rent again. read more

Very considerate and flexible, and they gave us gift baskets every Christmas. Transparent with lease and move out/move ins.

Erik and the UNIF team were always great! They were always kind and responsive with any issues we had

We lived at a Unif property for 3 wonderful years. Eric and Allen were always so helpful and responsive, and even were supportive and flexible with rent during initial covid salary cuts. Each Christmas they sent a box of chocolates or cookies, and they also sent us a gift during the beginning of quarantine. Leaving our apartment was very sad for us and not having Unif as our landlords anymore was an added layer to that. Anytime we needed something fixed such as the laundry, or the fridge, or the back stairs, their repair team would respond asap. Unif also made the move out process very easy. Would definitely recommend living at a Unif property! Thanks Eric and Allen for 3 great years! read more

I lived at one of Unif's property for a year and they were really great to have as a landlord. They always took care of maintenance within the next day or two and had a really great property maintenance team that was always responsive and really nice. It's rare that you find landlords as nice as they were and they even gave us a holiday box of chocolates. We were also surprised that when we first moved in they left us a welcome package, which included cleaning supplies and toilet paper (an easily forgotten essential when you're busy between moves). I would highly recommend them if you're looking at one of their properties. read more

I moved to SF from another state, and I was quite nervous about how expensive the city was and what kind of an apartment I could get in regards to quality, safety, cleanliness, and when it came to a landlord. I moved into a Unit property on Post St. in Lower Pacific heights and lived there for two years (2019-2021) - yes, right through the thickest part of COVID, when everything in life was so unpredictable. The apartment and property were remarkably well maintained. The apartment interior had been renovated right before I moved in, and there were groundsmen who came on a regular basis to keep the grounds clean and tidy. The second something in the apartment went wrong (plumbing, electrical, etc.), it was addressed effectively, usually within 24 hours. I never had to wait for a repair to the apartment or a response to an inquiry. Eric (property owner) and Allen (my property manager) were both absolutely outstanding! When COVID broke out, they even worked with me to temporarily adjust my rent while I figured out my work situation, which was super helpful and not in any way expected on my part. They were always so willing to help me out whenever I had a question or needed assistance with the apartment, and they were warm and friendly, knowledgeable and proactive, and just a true pleasure to deal with. I communicated with them in three ways and all were equally reliable and effective: via phone calls, emails, and through their Unif online portal, where I paid my bills. The portal was super user-friendly and easy to operate, which made paying everything really seamless. I highly, highly recommend renting from Unif with no reservations whatsoever! A great company with great people. read more

Lived at a Unif property for couple of years. Appreciated their responsiveness and the holiday gift baskets were always a great touch.

I lived in a house Eric and the Unif team managed for about 5 years, and they made our experience truly enjoyable. We had a fews issues during our stay like flooding in some bedrooms or roommates not paying rent. Eric was always really responsive, the flooding was fixed the next day with flooring redone, he helped us find solutions with unreliable subtenants. We really felt like we could count on the whole team during our stay. I would definitely recommend going through Unif for your next lease. read more

I lived in a Unif managed property for a year, aug 2019 to aug 2020. Throughout the entire process, I was extremely satisfied with the level of professionalism and service. Unif helped us through the whole process of lease signing and move in. They addressed any maintenance issues promptly and efficiently, and even sent us Christmas cookies! I only moved out of this property because I left San Francisco due to Covid, and would highly recommend Unif management. They are organized, efficient, and treat their tenants well. read more

I lived in a Unif-owned property for over 3 years and I would have gladly stayed longer if it wasn't for a change in roommates. Eric and Allen were super responsive to anything that needed fixing, and doing everything from a single portal was SO easy. (Seriously, why dont all landlords do this now??) Ultimately, I really loved how attentive Eric and his team were, which is hard to say about some of these giant property management companies in the city. read more

I lived in a unit for about 2 years managed by Unif. The team is actually very organized when it comes to providing notices, scheduling, and process for move-in / move-out. They were quick and painless when it came to making repairs. They were easy to get along with, and of course we thought the house itself was wonderful! I recommend using Unif as a smaller agency that stands out in its service and quality. They even provide helpful services that remove large bulky trash items from the property. I had a great experience and hope you do too! read more

My roommates and I lived in a UNIF apartment for almost two years before moving out of the city. Eric and the UNIF team were absolutely wonderful during our time living there. Whenever any maintenance issues came up, they would send someone right away to get it fixed. Eric was also so kind and helpful, especially in this hard year during COVID when a couple of our housemates got laid off. Eric was willing to negotiate the rent with us which allowed us to stay at our wonderful apartment! I highly recommend UNIF management to anyone! I lived in a Unif managed property in the Mission for 2 years and had a great experience with the management team, Eric, Allen, and the maintenance people. From the very beginning, before we moved in, they spruced up the place from the party house it was. Unif was always very responsive to maintenance requests and other leasing requests. You could make requests, pay your bills etc through a convenient online portal. Maintenance requests were taken care super fast, from broken lights, faucets, leaks, trimming the backyard, fixing loose stairs, etc, and Carlos was great. They sent really nice gift baskets over the holidays too, and even though they are management, you can tell that they really care. read more

Eric, Allen and Team over at Unif has been absolutely tremendous in providing an excellent home for us in the last 2.5 years, especially during the turbulent times in 2020. Unif managed the property I resided at from August 2019 - February 2021. They are an incredible management company! They were always responsive and reasonable. Unif is completely the opposite -- understanding, helpful, responsive, and timely! I highly recommend. read more

I rented an apartment in Bernal Heights from Unif for 5 years, and I had such a positive experience all around. The landlords, maintenance staff, and other staff members were always so responsive; they always resolved issues in a prompt and professional manner. The property was managed incredibly well. I was lucky to live in a beautiful property managed by Unif for 7 years. In all my time there, Eric and his staff were always quick to address repairs, extremely helpful when I had questions about our apartment or changing roommates, very supportive when we started looking to purchase a home of our own, and flexible about our move out date while we were in escrow. I highly recommend them as property managers, and if you're lucky, you may even land in the Lower Haight apartment I loved and treasured so much. read more

Eric and his team are amazing. They were far and away the best landlords I had my entire time in San Francisco. Hands down! You don't realize how much of a difference it makes to have an amazing landlord until you have one. The place was newly renovated, was gorgeous and had recessed lighted so the entire place was beautiful and bright unlike most dungeon places in SF. They would repaint the house every time we renewed the lease (also unheard of in SF even though it's the law) and whenever we had a problem (which was rare because everything ran so nicely), they immediately sent someone over to fix it and the people they sent were polite and professional and fixed the issue on the first try. Contrast this with my previous landlord who we had to beg for a plumber for 3 weeks and when he finally did, the plumber was so rude to us and gave us a hard time for having a problem in the first place. Eric and his team were also proactively communicative if there was someone they had to send to the house for maintenance so we were never surprised if someone showed up and needed access. I would have never left that spot because of my landlord and the beautiful lighting if I hadn't left SF as a whole. Best housing experience in SF. read more

I would also like to chime in that Eric was the best landlord I've ever dealt with. Based on his level of responsiveness, you'd think the guy lived downstairs from my unit (he didn't, BTW). My wife and I rented from Eric for a little over three years; the only reason we moved out was because we just bought a place of our own. Here's a quick review of the highlights of my experience with Eric & UNIF as a landlord. Responsiveness: Eric always responded to me within 24 hours when I either called to leave him a message or dropped him an email. Most of the time, he just gave me a call on my cell. * Eric always repaired things upon my request. If they ever required a part to be specially ordered, Eric or one of his employees would give me a ring to let me know that it would take a few days and the problem was solved w/o any fuss. Even annoyances (like the buzzing transformer for the track lighting in the living room) were repaired; I know most landlords would have taken the position "it's its not broke, I'm not going to pay to fix it." That's not true of UNIF. * There was never a question if I bought some handtool (rake) or wood chips to clean up the yard. I just submitted my receipt and was cut a check within a few days. Move Out: Eric promptly refunded me my rent deposit without any fuss. As per SF law, this deposit also included interest less the cleaning fees. Now, I've learned a lesson from living at previous apartments. Since we couldn't clean this place to the level of a professional (IMO not even our regular maid does this), it's not worth spending days trying to get all the nooks and crannies spotless (example: no matter how fastidious you are, the tracks of the windows always accumulate a little soot that is a complete pain to clean up). When I asked Eric if I should patch/paint the holes from the nails used to hang painting, Eric suggested that it's just easier to leave it to them to fix all at once. I did this and his cleaning fee was entirely reasonable. The bottom line is that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend UNIF as a landlord. From the horror stories I've heard from friends, you could do far, far worse in SF. -g read more

Four score and 14 months ago, I moved to San Francisco and into an apartment manage by Eric, Debbie, and James of UNIF. It was a decision conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all not apartments and landlords are created equal. So you wonder, fair reader, how was my experience? Quite amicable. To answer your pondering succinctly, the fair people of UNIF fixed all needed repairs promptly, were very responsive to emails, and were generally quite pleasant to work with, even upon departure from the residence. The humble abode in which I resided, though not without flaw, was well-upkept. The end. read more

Update (2 months into rental): Still very smooth sailing! Very pleased with the responsive customer service from both Eric and his awesome assistant Debbie. --- After reading the reviews, I was a little wary about renting from UNIF. But I have to say that thus far, my experience with UNIF has been very professional and I have no complaints. Whenever I've had to contact Eric, I've always gotten through directly or received a call back within hours of leaving a message, and all my queries were addressed in a timely fashion. In fact, after my positive personal experience, I reread some of the negative Yelp reviews and noticed a few things. For example, one Yelper admitted himself that he was late on paying rent on MULTIPLE occasions. Sorry, but I wouldn't tolerate a tenant who pays rent late either. I had two roommates to collect rent from, but on the rare occasion when they couldn't pay on-time, I'd cover the full amount myself and have my roommates pay me back later. Because that's the responsibility I took on when I signed the lease, which is a legal/financial contract. (Not to mention, the contract you sign clearly states that Eric has to deposit payment on his end on the 1st of every month, so if you're late, you get charged a late fee. And if you do it 3 times, he can evict you. If you didn't read your contract thoroughly before you signed it, that's your bad.) Another Yelper admitted that the things they were complaining about (collecting a fee to cover a credit check, charging high rent, etc) is common practice in SF. In fact, it's common practice in any area where housing is competitive. Hate the game, not the player. (But I'd like to add that, whatever their policy was before, UNIF now refunds the credit check fee if you end up renting the place from them.) I think the bottom line is, as long as you hold up your end of the bargain, UNIF will treat you with respect and consideration. read more
