I cannot give Ruth Craster any stars. Sept 2012 my daughter and I went to her shop in Fulham Rd looking for a bridal corset. We eventually purchased one for £250, which Ruth claimed had been made by a designer and she was selling off the last ones. It was nothing special, but we were desperate, as the wedding was imminent, and we had not been able to find anything else suitable. The day before the wedding my daughter was introduced to a friend of a friend, who just happened to be a corset maker and designer. She offered to come round on the day to lace my daughter in to the corset, which she did, and it was then she first observed that the bones twisted during lacing, as the sleeve that held them was too large. In her opinion, the corset was not designer made at all ,but a cheaply made import from China. My daughter danced at her wedding, and had a lovely day, but at the end, when she took off the corset, there were two holes in the back where the bones had been and the bones had dropped out!! She took the corset back to Ruth, who agreed to repair. This was just before Christmas, so my daughter did not hassle Ruth until 2013, infact, as she had started a new job, that took up all her time, it was I that finally went in to Ruth to find out if the garment had been repaired, in May! It had not. Ruth had not even touched it, stating that it had been too cold to sew! She then promised to do the repair by the end of the week. Next thing I get a text from Ruth stating the repair would have to wait as she was in hospital. Apparently she had a stroke. Well, we are still waiting at the time of writing (July 2013) despite the fact that she is back at work, for the text to say the garment is ready. My daughter finished work early a few weeks ago, and sent a text to Ruth enquiring as to whether she could collect the corset. No reply. What can we do? Take her to the small claims court? As far as I am concerned she is dishonest, and unethical. read more
