Ginn Field - how you've changed…read more This is a big soccer/softball field in Winchester, near the Wedgemere T station. The soccer and softball areas haven't changed in 20 years. The playground has. When I was a kid, it was all rusty swingsets and one of those deadly spinner-things - remember them? Almost broke my neck on that. It was replaced years ago by a giant wooden 2-story playground structure. Kids LOVE it. Got a number of slides, sandbox, seperate small "fort" for the small ones, swings. It's in OK shape. I am always surprised that the kids don't get splinters here. It's WOOD. But it's been so worn down over the years that it's all smooth. Private parking lot - not terribly big but at least they got it - assuming you can find the entrance (hint: go to the post office). The playground structure was all the rage when it was built - but it's dated now. Wood? All the new ones have plastic and steel. Ice cream truck will stop by, though. Side note: remember the flood of '96? Ginn Field filled up like a bowl of cereal. I'm not kidding. It's sort of a bowl-shape in and of itself, and it's right next to the Aberjona River, which itself used to flow straight through where the current field is now. Just remember, that where you're standing, was once 10 feet under in water and sewage..... yum.

You know you're entering a new phase in your life when you start writing reviews of playgrounds…read moreinstead of awesome restaurants/bars. That's right, yelpers... parenthood and old age are staring you down. Cummings Park Playground is the favorite playground for my 1.25yr old. The climbing/play structures are built on large sand areas, so it's like a giant sandbox (with clean sand no less). There are quite a few donated toys lying around (many of which are trucks), so there's lots to play with. 3 toddler swings, 2 big kid swings. A small basketball court with one hoop. The whole park is nicely laid out. I feel perfectly comfortable just sitting back on one of the benches and letting him walk around and explore. The best part is that its primarily used by 1-4yr olds, and there is almost always some kids there to play with (especially in the mornings). It can get busy, but it never gets too busy/insane (like Alexander W. Kemp playground in Harvard Sq). Generally speaking, the big kids and teenagers keep away. The worst part is that it has very little shade. In fact, there is no shade on the climbing structures, so they can get hot in the middle of the day. There are a few trees, but they aren't positioned particularly well. All the exciting stuff that your kids will want to play with are in the sunny spots. So I would recommend it as a early/mid-morning playground.

The first thing that struck me about this park were the separate play areas for under 5 and over 5 kiddos. I tend to go to the park on Summer St but there is only one structure and when the bigger kids play Tag, I always worry about my daughter getting knocked over or off the structure. The under 5 structure has only one opening through which there is potential for a fall; otherwise, the panels are closed. The structure offers opportunity to develop the gross motor skills through climbing and crawling through tubes. I genuinely appreciate the three baby swings as well as the sand (vs wood chips). Another big bonus is that Whole Foods is just a short walk down the street. There is a small basketball court adjacent to the playground but doesn't seem to be frequently utilized. This definitely seems to be a more family friendly park!

This park is great, though it would be better for 2 - 5 ages. Older kids can still play here, just…read morenot as much to do. Anyways, onto the playground! Parking is fairly easy, there is a parking lot. Most of the playground is accessible, besides 1 swing. There is 1 swing over sand, 2 swings over rubber, and 1 bucket harness swing over rubber. The is sensory and musical, play equipment in the first part, as well as imaginary play. Secondly, there are low monkey bars and a climber. Next, there is a straight slide and if you go a little higher there is a spiral slide. To get on the playground, there are stairs, a curved ladder, or the monkey bars. For older kids, there is a semicircular climbing net. There is also a baseball field, pickle ball courts, a basketball court, picnic tables with shelter, and 2 trails leading to neighborhoods. It is fully of activities for the younger set, and it would be great to go there for 15 minutes to half an hour!

Duggar Park...what can I say? If you have any ties to "West Meffa" then you already can understand…read morethe history and appreciate its past. Duggar Park has been a West Meffa institution since my Dads younger days (he just turned 70!), back when West was the predominantly Black neighborhood of Medford. The Rhône tennis courts were named after a well known resident, and events are held throughout the spring/summer here. There's 2 playgrounds here, a sprinkler some tennis courts and a basketball court all along the Mystic river neighboring Somerville. And maybe even once in awhile you'll catch the ice cream truck stopping by. I have so many great memories of this park from the 80s/90s there's no reason why it doesn't deserve 5 stars. It's a great local small park if you're in the area great for kids and families.

I understand this is normal and it is a really good park for kids but not for kids 10 and over. My 10 year old has lost interest for it but will go if her friends go to hang out. there is also a baseball field and some benches and table to hang out if you don't want to use the playground. There is also a little roofed area with no walls but it is a perfect place to eat.

Located just down the street from the Gingerbread Construction Company, this is one of the big…read moresoccer fields in Winchester. Soccer is big with the rich folks. You didn't grow up in Winchester unless you played soccer. There is a teeny-tiny parking lot for this field. There is also street parking avaiable - but be careful - Washington St is wicked busy. After walking down a small hill, you'll find the field in front of you - mostly people play soccer here. There is a basketball court too, which is in decent shape. There's also a playground tucked in the back - and it's all right. My nephews like it enough so that we go there from time to time. It has a little rock-wall climbing thing and your typical jungle gym too. Kinda sunny here - no shade nearby. Sort of a long walk back to the car across the fields, but - well at least it's never very crowded at this "hidden" playground...

What a great playground! The only reason that I give it four stars instead of five is because the…read morerubber surface squares that cover the entirety of the playground are coming apart, leaving gaps that kids can trip on. However, this is a perfect playground for all ages, from age 2 on up. There are four different sections: a wooden play set for older kids, a toddler section, another wooden play set for toddlers and older kids, and a climbing structure off to the side for older kids. The wooden playground equipment in the middle is perfect for playing chase, because there are lots of bridges to run on and spaces to hide under. Climbers will love all of the things to climb on, including a wall with a rope to help you scale. There are slides galore, bridges, monkey bars, fireman poles, ropes, tunnels and steps. The only thing: There are no swings here! But there are so many other things to do that you don't even miss them. One of the best things about the playground in this park is the view. You can see the Charles River from this playground, as well as all of the beautiful buildings and bridges around Boston.

It's fenced in, which is a plus. There is no parking, which is a minus. But it's walkable from the green line. Stroll over to the nearby Lee Memorial Wading pool to make a whole day of it with your little ones. ETA: there actually is parking, over by the wading pool, but you have to put your life at risk by slowing down enough on Storrow drive to turn into it. Then you have to try to get back on... obviously this outrages everyone else on Storrow to the point of lewd gestures and angry horns, since they're so busy with their important lives.

In this place, you'll find a tennis court, basketball courts, soccer, volleyball and, softball field. There is a skateboard rink. I believe a mile long track to walk, jog, run or ride your bike. I came across this park and came looking for a nice peaceful, afternoon walk and that's exactly what I got. I will be definitely coming again!.

My favorite part is the paved half mile loop, great for kids riding bikes so you can keep an eye on them.
