Sassy Girls Consignment

Sassy Girls Consignment

(12 reviews)

I was recommended to take my nice clothing to Sassys Consignment in Sylva and after having a…read moreterrible experience at Victoria's closet in Cashiers I decided to take a chance. I called and set up an appointment and showed up with my items. I thought everything was going well until it appeared that the lady was not interested in any of my clothing. I had two bags of very nice dresses some with tags on them from JCPenneys and Dress Barn. From the very beginning it started off with they don't take wrinkled clothes yet all my dresses were nicely placed in the bags folded in half, then it was we need the clothes to be in a bin, then we aren't taking size 10's and at this point I was feeling the same affect that I felt as I did at Victoria's closet with Linda where I literally stormed out of the their store because she treated my clothes/shoes like they were garbage. But with Victoria's closet she didn't care that the clothes were in a bag, didn't care about the size or it they were not pressed. It was we don't accept clothes from JC Penney's or Dress Barn, finding a tiny spot on a brand new pair of shoes that were never worn and made me feel worthless. I explained that I worked for the Federal Government in Washington DC and after retiring I am trying to find a place to give my clothing too not asking for any money and both stores told me they couldn't accept them. I had no intention of writing this review until I was talking to several women that I know and they mentioned they take their items to Sassy's in Sylva and Victoria's closet in Cashiers and they were shocked to hear about the experience that I had. They told me that they take their items in bags, they don't inspect them or check to see if they are pressed and drop them off with no problem(s). When I left Sassy's I had the same feeling that I did when I left Victoria's closet in Cashiers...belittled making me feel like my clothes were not worth anything. My clothes were extremely nice and I didn't want any money for them at all. I've never lived in a small town like Sylva, Cullowhee or other areas around here and have never experienced this terrible treatment as I did at these two Consignments stores. Most stores would be more than happy to accept them as I know there are women that would gladly enjoy these clothes. I have decided that I will take my nice gently used clothing which I have quite a bit of to a thrift store or a place for battered women in VA where I lived for many years and I will not receive the terrible treatment as I did at Victoria's closet and Sassy's consignment!

I have some mixed feelings about this spot. My first visit I…read moredid find some cute clothes but I overpaid for those used items. I did not find anything under $10.95- and I was picking out some pretty basic shirts for that price. As far as I know they do not do the color coded percentage off that most stores do. I did try to consign a few items but it was all denied due to wear- as in Jessica Simpson distressed boyfriend jeans were too worn. I guess if you're looking for a $300 coach bag and want to pay $150, then this could be your spot. My money could go further at other consignments in the area so I won't go out of my way to go back.

I too love Roses and have been going here since I was a small child. They are one of my favorite…read morestores and have good reasonable prices. I know that a lot of Roses have been closed- I would like to see the company invest a little in the renovation of this really valuable store in my hometown. My daughter is seven and also loves shopping here. It is really nice to go into a store and I'm able to afford stylish and cute clothing for her. The shoe selection is not as strong as it used to be but Roses is a great place for Children's clothes. Also Roses has a really nice Plus Size Selection and I've been able to find stylish and trendy clothing for myself as well. Many Thanks for Roses!

This is my favorite store! I love Roses. I have been going here since I was a child which was way…read morebefore Walmart came to town. It has a huge parking lot with a lot of handicap parking. The small shopping center has bowling, pawn shop, escape room, thrift store, post office, a Chinese restaurant. This is not a "name brand" store but more of a "dollar department store". This is the best place and best price to get dog supplies ($5 dog beds!), comforter sets (I don't recommend the sheets so much but the bedding is great!), bath/kitchen/beach towels, window treatments, and household decor. They also carry clothing in all sizes for all age groups. The quality of the clothing is moderately well and the price is great! They carry cleaning products, kitchen supplies, health and beauty items, canned/dry snacks and groceries, tons of candy, OTC medication, small appliances, toys, and seasonal items and decor. They are constantly getting in new merchandise each week. The staff is really sweet and efficient. If you are not interested in supporting the "big box chain stores" then give Roses a try!

Goodwill Store and Donation Center

Goodwill Store and Donation Center

Let me start by saying the staff here is great. Very nice, very helpful. BUT...they have some of…read morethe most overpriced items I have ever seen in a Goodwill. They price things as if they were an antique store and not a thrift shop that gets their inventory for free. They already ask you to "round up" your "donation" when you check out...and have zero problem charging almost retail on any item that might be collectible. The point of a Goodwill is to find a deal. You won't find one in Sylva. You are better off on eBay. Truth.

"Shoppe"....yes, you read it right! And although most items in a Goodwill have been pre-owned, that…read moredoesn't mean they are from the Middle Ages. Quite the contrary, actually. You never know what treasures lie inside a Goodwill, so get diggin'. This location is very new. It opened in December of 2015. It is clean and well organized. I did not have to stand on tiptoe to get to scarves. Shoes were not a jumbled mess. Everything was tangible. I scored new dishes from Target, a Gap sweat jacket for my kid, and an H&M scarf for my other kid, but I am hoping that she does not wear it for six months so I can rightfully claim it. We also got a cocktail glass and a framed pic of a unicorn. That picture now graces my living room. The employees here are so nice! An employee told me that the local college students donate wonderful items. I saw a great selection of books, come to think of it. I like the fact that this location is a true "shoppe"- small, not crammed, and not overwhelmed with too many items. You can pop in and pop out, even just for kicks. And even though a fellow patron decided to block me from potential finds with her strategically placed cart, fellow competitive moms do not abound here. Relax, reuse. If you got that certain je ne sais quoi but want more, then this is the place for you. (Monday through Saturday: Nine to eight. Sunday: One to six.)

TBC is a thrift store that supports women with problems- whether it be substance abuse, past…read morefamilial abuse, or emotional issues. I love the fact that its focus is women. TBC has petite to plus sizes for women and juniors. Clothes are arranged by category and size. I saw beautiful stuff! Make sure to check your picks before purchase. You can try them on in the bathroom/dressing room. Do not let that turn you off- it is very clean. TBC also has shoes, scarves, jewelry, belts, bags, and a smaller room dedicated to knickknacks, men's clothing, and books. My husband found a nice pair of Haggar pants for one buck, yes one buck! Ronni found a "Betty and Veronica" mini-comic. The volunteer there was very sweet. She told us that anything with an "April" tag was one buck. We went at the very end of May, and of course I was picking stuff with "June" tags. Thus, we spent three bucks per item. I like this place, as I can just focus on myself and my older daughter. It is not huge. It is not overwhelming. Donations are accepted whenever the store is open. I saw at least eight filled kitchen-sized trash bags that someone had dropped off, so keep that in mind. Donations are tax deductible. Volunteers are always needed. Check out their Facebook page to see their stuff. If you go, they are in the West Sylva plaza, right near "Harold's". Monday through Friday: ten to five; Saturday: ten to three. Sunday is a day of rest. Go to support female empowerment!

In the top 4 of thrift shops in my honest opinion. It's a small shop but chocked full of very nice…read moreclothing, shoes, and accessories. The staff is extremely nice and always talkative and friendly.
