When I went to order I noticed a bunch of fresh grapefruit and a juicer sitting behind the bar - I ordered a Paloma and saw the bartender juice it straight into my cup! I want to explain you my experience in this club. I went to Underground SF two Fridays ago. The night and the atmosphere was good, and the party too. However, when I got home I realized I had lost my sunglasses in there. I contacted them few days after (without no hope of finding them) asking if they have found my sunglasses (please find attached pictures). They told me they found the sunglasses and even they sent me a picture of the sunglasses. I did confirm they were mine. I said to them that I was going to grab them on Thursday or Friday (Thursday was the first day they were opening). I went on Friday to pick the sunglasses up. Unfortunately, the people working there were not able to find the sunglasses. They told me to wait, because they were contacting other employee who "could have taken the sunglasses to a safer place". After some minutes, they told me to go another day to grab the sunglasses because mysteriously the sunglasses weren't there. (I went there on purpose for that and they knew it.) This is when I said, ok "can you take my phone number and let me know when I can come back? because you are making me to waste my time and money". Seems that they didn't take this very good... they gave me a piece of paper to write down my phone number and meanwhile the front door guy was telling me "write your number and get out of here, get out of here" and one of the waitress was telling me...you were the one losing the sunglasses (remember, that they found the sunglasses and were there). I didn't hear back from them. I contacted them once again, as you can see in the pics. No answer. So, I can only say, they are very very rude and unrespectful. And still...one remaining question, where are the sunglasses? I'd really appreciate if someone gives me an explanation. read more

Hmm, can be hit or miss. As in the last time I came for Cockfight on a Friday, it was packed to wall-to-wall with people, though I suppose it was for DJ Earworm. Plenty o' eye candy if the Castro scene is getting a little grating. Second time there, it was sparse and the music was best suited for epileptic fits and jerky jerk dance. There was also a drugged out zombie of a man lurching around the dance floor, ready to rub his sweaty fuzzy self on you. Please, please stop, enough sexy has been brought back. $7 cover! read more

A bit late with the cliched "underground SF" bar name, whatever I still refer to it as "the Top" as do most here in San Francisco. Drunk and Horny seems to be the current party pulling for this bar. While it was fun sometime about last year in 2005. It's evident that this event has outgrown this venue. Getting drunk is a challenge within itself...pay the $5 buck cover then get crammed into the narrow bar as if you were getting shoved onto a commuter train in Japan. Seriously, pushing your way to the bar takes some mad skill! A couple of spilled drinks, getting your feet stepped on, and some aggressive shoving gets you to the equally packed dance floor. Dance or just attempt to or just stand there and get unintentionally groped to the campy 70's-90's music. Okay promoters, now that you got the crowd, I'm sure you'd have a loyalty of followers who'd love another venue to accommodate a larger crowd. But kudos for doing something outside of the Castro mold...looks like you got em' where you want them! What began as Drunk and Horny has transformed itself to Sober Horny and overcrowded, and the crowds seem to grow larger by the week. It's most likely one fire hazard away from catastrophe, a paramedics worst nightmare. I wouldn't want to be there in the slightest of tremor/ earthquake, the place would just collapse or deflate. read more

The best Tuesday night in the whole city. All hail the SF DnB pioneers that have essentially started their careers here (Phunckateck, Phuturo, Groundscore, to name but a few) and for continuing to push the scene for years and years. Of all of the bars I've been to in the city, this one is by far the most fun to drink at. Loud, funny, wise-cracking bartenders pouring 'em strong. The dance floor isn't huge by any means and it gets really crowded in there. And prepare to wait for the bathroom for quite awhile. And you'll need it, 'cause you will be drunk as a skunk. Where o' where do I begin? I think I am going to dedicate this one to the ladies who may randomly end up at Sf Underground in the future. A couple of my girlfriends and I ended up here to meet a friend for some hanging out and disco music. What we did not expect was a half naked mess of people gyrating on each other and looking at us with horrified expressions on their sweaty faces. Seriously, as we walked through the club it parted as though it was the red sea. Yes we have breasts, but we dont bite. So we walk through the mess of people in search of a bathroom. Well, ladies, you definitely want to bring a friend with you. As there is only a see through curtain separating you from the dance floor, you will want your friends to stand in front of it to give you a little privacy and to keep people from peeking their heads in to a) see if you are a hot guy or b) yell at you to hurry the fuck up. But wait...the night seriously got better. At one point, I am not sure when (or why), we went from icky girls to the shit. Guys were dancing with us, providing blockades so we didnt get pushed around and grinding on us. It felt so good to be loved! And I got to freak with guys and not feel slutty the next morning! I came here last weekend for the Hell'a Tight Party, a purported 90s themed dance party. I had such high hopes for the venue and event; I challenge yelpers to find any kid of the 90s who wouldn't be excited for a 90s dance party. I mean there's such great dance hits as "Groove is in the Heart", "What is Love?", "Rhythm is a Dancer" ... I could go on and on. Sadly, I didn't hear many of the great 90s dance hits and in fact, I'd say about half the songs were actually from the 00s to the present (not the 90s). My disappoint was compounded by the fact that I experienced the first thing I've ever experienced in my life: a bartender refusing to make a drink for me on the grounds that the bar is a "dive bar" and then walking away. Well excuse me. Last time I checked, dive bars do NOT have dance floors. In any event, I consider that to be so incredibly rude and disrespectful of a patron. Thankfully, there was another bartender who very politely made my drink after I reminded him how to make it. For those of you wondering, it was a Harvel Walbanger (OJ+Vodka+Galliano - all of which they had). At the end of the day, I doubt I'll be going back to the underground but you never know, time makes crappy experiences seem somehow better. read more

I honestly think that Underground SF is one of my favorite bars in San Francisco. It's small, it's divey, it's unassuming. But perhaps I like it because it's a gay bar outside of the ever-straightening Castro. Underground SF hosts a lot of weekly or monthly parties. For me, the nights to go here are definitely Saturdays. 1st and 3rd Saturdays are for the ever-popular Cockfight, where the bar is FILLED with MEN-- and very few annoying drunken Castro queens. Go-Go boys takeover the bar and stage-- usually one has a panda head. The second Saturday was reserved for Mall Madness-- a bubblegum pop night with music and drag, although this will be going on hiatus post-June. Currently, newish party Indie Cent is thrown on the fourth Saturday, with indie-electro music and drag. The bar itself is narrow and long, with the bar to your right. The bar tenders are mixed in taste but almost always shirtless. There are a few short stairs that lead you to the dance floor-- depending on the night there is a stage. There is a smoker's patio in the back (albeit small) and the line for bathrooms can get ridiculously long, since there are only two single-stall bathrooms. Needless to say, this bar has quickly become my Saturday night home and it's definitely a place I recommend people go when they need to escape the mess that is the Castro on Friday or Saturday night. read more

The night has come and you're in the Haight walking around ready to kill your liver. Your liver is telling you no but do you ever listen to it? NO! You walk through the entrance which leads into a small dive bar with music blaring and the smell of vodka, funk, and old wood comes at you in great force. You look around and notice everyone is wasted and having a great time. You pause to take this in because you love getting wasted in Dive bars. To the bar you head where you start off with the first drink. The drink being 99% vodka and 1% red bull, you will not earn your wings. You will be drunk and joining in on the crazy scene which introduced its self moments ago. Up two steps you go and head to a dance floor packed with people. Its rather small but just enough room to get in and show the others you can move. Now hot and ready for some air you head to the back where an enclosed patio greets you. The patio is packed with smoker, a few people who are passed out, and tons of patrons sharing stories. This dark gloomy bar has won over your attention. Don't get confused with the 3 stars that are being used to represent this review. I don't, in any way, consider this bar to be maintaining the status quo. With that being said, let's get into it. I used to go here when it was still a kept secret and not the crowded hole it is today. Back then it was fun. A lot of cute boys having their mai tai's and cosmos talking about nothing I care to hear in the front of the club. People getting down on the dance floor as you go towards the middle and then the cool crowd of hipsters, hippies, you get the idea....hanging in the back. Never crowded but just enough people inside to make it feel like it was still a good night to be out. Let's Pan over to Late 06' - Current 07'. Fun as this club was/is. I don't envision myself coming back here for a while. I was charged a different cover for entry than my friends in front of me were, it's too crowded on the inside and people really should learn to tread lightly, or at least say excuse me...Rude. It takes half the night to get a drink in this fucker, only to have them make it wrong and have to stand in line again-The latter happened to me twice. Another time I came in there was this black guy chillin in the middle of the stairwell with 3 or 4 snakes on him, not my kind of party. Apparently the danger of 4 wild reptiles doesn't bother Underground SF....thats whatev. To make it all worse. This place has it's bathrooms right in the middle of the dance floor. It is hard to dance with someone when you have a long as line dividing you. 3 stars for awesome memories. -2 stars for things I'll never forget. The Top was better than Underground SF. the place is a mere shadow of its former self, but still pretty bangin. go there on TUESDAY for $5 phuturo, one of the longest running drum'n'bass weekies out there. recognize! the sound used to be dope, then it got busted, then it got fixed, so its pretty good now and works fine but could be bigger. but for a small venue its aight. big bar, easy to get drinks. good average drinks. water available on the end. lots of places to sit. elevated dance floor, 2 nasty bathrooms and a smoking area. all good. a nice semi-grungy but chill bar to hang out and dance at. i only go tuesdays for d'n'b and rare saturdays, so take your chances on the others days... read more

I am always fully aware of my surroundings when I enter Underground SF. I leave barely clinging to the knowledge of what my name is. This would be more fitting if I ever managed to have more than one drink here. There's got to be some magic gay ju-ju going on here or I might be more of a trainwreck than I want to believe. What I foggily remember from days after is darkness, loud music, and dancing. They also have a coat check. I've only been here for Drunk and Horny and let me tell you that this bar is fantastic. The service is standard, not slow but not fast by the bars but the music and scenery of D&N will make up for it. Lots of sweaty boys who managed to get the party started... and they all seemingly fit the name of the party... ...drunk.... ...horny.... It's a good escape away from the Castro and the cover is not that bad for the party they provide. Just make sure you come drunk and horny like the name or some of your counterparts at the party might freak you out when they try and bag you for a one-night stand. read more

There is nothing really attractive or appealing about this spot however. Nothing that makes me say, "wow, I'd like to go back there again." My friends and I hit this place up last night, but we all left disappointed. 7 dollar cover was the first strike. The next strike was the crowd. If you're a 40 year old white dude, and you like other 40 year old white dudes, then you will be in heaven. Otherwise you'll be scratching your head trying to figure out the appeal. Oh and last but not least, The Smell! You could smell the bathrooms of this place in the whole club, like having a party inside a port-o-potty... a port-o-party. Anyway, the only saving grace was the music. Like everyone else has said, its pretty cool, oldies and new hits all mixed together. But its not enough to make me want to ever go back.
