Staff was super friendly. The one thing that truly angered me, however, was the fact that this store is not 5 minutes from my home, but instead several states away. SO glad I made the trip out to Carrollton to go here! This is my dream bookstore! It feels like a secret hideaway full of books! They have a great mix of classics and new releases with so many "staff recommendation" cards drawing you in to books! I was really impressed with the selection, they seemed to have it all and it was well organized. I loved how cozy it felt, the ambient lighting was perfect and inviting. There was so much to look at, I could have spent all day in there! The person behind the counter was really nice and friendly! WHAT A GEM!!!! My husband and I were staying at a lakehouse nearby so decided to stop in downtown Carrollton after brunch. We were looking for antique stores and found this little gem, tucked into the side of a building, off the main square but easily miss-able it's so inconspicuous. We stepped in and proceeded to get lost in there for like....a good hour and a half. They have everything from childrens books through to rare, collectors items. Organized by topic area, I also loved the "staff recommended" stickers spread throughout the store. And their vintage self where anything is $5 and you can fill a whole minishelf for something like $50 (can't remember exactly except it was a STEAL). My husband ended up getting a few "prep" books e.g. gardening, making your own food, etc etc. I found a gem tucked in the corner between two shelves, a world atlas from 1916 filled with old maps from the WWI era for ONLY $12!!! As someone who's constantly looking for antique maps, I can't believe I got a WHOLE book of maps for $12. Not even in the vintage/rare/glass bookcase section. Just on the floor stacked with other reference books. Talk about finding a treasure. I wished we lived closer to Carrollton, I'd come all the time. Instead, looks like I'll just have to find cozy vintage bookstores inside ATL instead. read more

Saw it on tiktok. My partner and I were very disappointed. The bookstore itself was fine. A little dusty and worn but it was fine. The staff is what was disappointing. They had a somewhat snobby attitude and were kind of rude. They even got onto the customer before us about not knowing about them before they came in (?) just a weird attitude from them. we didn't tell them we came from tiktok. The staff, which I could only describe as "book-whispering", will find what you need in a hitch. Have you ever dreamt of having a large library of books lined all up against the wall and shoved into every corner? Even if you haven't, I'm sure you can appreciate finding literature at discounted rates. Well stop dreaming, fellow bookworms. Underground books is exactly what you have been looking for! They sell and buy used and antique books ranging from classic literature, philosophy, photography, history, fiction, biographies, textbooks, poems, plays, art, politics, science, gardening, and the list goes on! There are so many hidden treasures. As you would imagine, the bookstore is "underground", and feels like you just walked into the basement of a brilliant mind. It's dark, and there is classical music playing. It's a little dusty, but well kept and organized. The cons is that much like a thrift store (which is what Underground books is in book form), you do have to take some time to look through the books. But if you have an afternoon and a few bucks to spare, it's the perfect pastime. Although it's not guaranteed that you'll find what you have in mind, you're likely to find something you can happily walk away with. And don't let the "thrift store" imagery scare you away - they do carefully organize the books categorically, so don't fret. It's not a nightmare by any means! On my first visit I walked away with a lovely binding of "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck as well as Ayn Rand's "Anthem", all for less than $9 combined! This bookstore is the best I have seen as far as the ones that offer used books for purchase. Everything is carefully categorized so you can go straight to the section of which you are interested in and begin browsing.They offer alot more than your average bookstore. Fun place to visit and we've bought things here many times. It's small and can feel pretty crowded on a busier day/time so you probably would want to avoid if you have claustrophobia issues. Staff is always very nice. Selection is "eclectic" and you never know what you might find which is both good and bad since you can't be guaranteed to get something you need in a timely manner.
