I've tried other self-tape locations (Argentum, CAZT), but Undercurrent is my favorite for many reasons: 1. Video Quality: lighting, sound, color correcting is balanced. For once, I actually think I look good on-camera! 2. Space set-up: Their equipment is professional and the space is very organized, clean, and big enough where I don't feel like I'm cramped in closet like other studios. 3. Cold Read help: Bru & Aina are awesome at helping you with your self-tape. They've been acting for many years, so they understand how to bring out the best in your audition. They were very honest and helpful. I watched my first take and my last take and it showed a world of a difference. They really do know what they are doing. Other locations either don't provide a reader and if they do, the reader doesn't offer as much feedback. I have used a few places to tape my auditions and undercurrent really is my favorite. They really take the time to make sure lighting is perfect as well as the sound. Bru and Aina are both amazing actors and really work to give you a solid read. Most importantly I feel they really believe in you when you are in there. They are amazing! As both an actor, writer, host who produces her own content, I would highly recommend anyone who is look for top notch quality to work Under Current. The first time I used them was to shoot a political hosting segment. (AT THE LAST MINUTE). I literally called them at 9:45pm the night before I needed to shoot and within 30 minutes they told they would be able to shoot my segment. Ps. I called three other well known production companies who were not able to accommodate me last minute. Not only was it shot with great clarity and quality, picture, sound, but the editing was equally amazing. For the bigger project: because they did such a great job with my hosting segment I used them as well to shoot a one episode web series for Indie Gogo. Of course I wanted to stick to an ultra low budget, but Bru & Aina gave a lot of invaluable advice and suggested I shoot one episode as opposed to the few snippets I had in mind. So grateful I listened to them! Although I came up with the writing and overall idea, they added a lot of value by co-writing, and even adding their own actors & concepts to increase the creativity and comedic elements. Aina did an incredible job editing also. I got sooooo many compliments on how beautiful the episode/trailer turned out. All of the feedback I received said they loved the quality and how well put together it was and felt as if they were watching a scripted show on tv. I was in a real pickle one day. I had a huge audition to tape over the weekend but all the other places were booked or never got back to me. A friend from Audition Technique class, Emma, suggested I try Undercurrent. Firstly, their website was a breeze to navigate. Making an appointment based on your specific time constraints was easy. They confirmed their receipt of my request, confirmed the actual appointment pretty quickly after, and then send a text reminder before the taping on the day of. I took care to send them the sides with anything for them to note before I got there. Parking was a breeze (a huge win in LA), and they were warm and welcoming as soon as I got there. I never felt rushed or overlooked. We really collaborated on the scene. My scene had some pretty intense blocking and we talked then walked through it. The beautiful thing about Aina and Bru having experience both in front of and behind the camera is that they understand what you need as an actor AND what casting needs to see. Taking care of those two concerns in one swoop is a huge blessing. I know I can focus on my craft and still come out looking like a true professional. Their lighting and sound is unparalleled. Everything sounds clear with no interference and I look my best without that weird soft, beauty focus that no one believes. This is my new favorite place to self-tape! They are SO nice. Booking was easy and everything about the process was extremely professional and well put together. I was able to book online and got texts and emails saying that they had received my request as well as a confirmation. Then the morning of my tape they sent me a reminder text, which was a very nice added touch. I got great direction from Bru who had great insight and was very helpful. The lens they use makes actors look GOOD! They have a nice station for actors to charge their phone. And they use an iPad to read your sides from so you don't have to hear pages turning. This post could be very biased because the founders are two of my closest friends.
