I've been going to Uncommon Practice for 6 months now. I was told pilates was going to change my life but I didn't realize how big of an impact it would actually have. Being able to do things without pain has been so amazing. I went on a trip and knew that I wouldn't have been able to do a lot of the things I did without Pilates. I have flat feet and an extra bone in one foot. My whole body is misaligned because of it and I have had several injuries that are exacerbated by the severe pronation. Working out has always been difficult, pulling muscles easily, spraining my ankles constantly, and knees slipping out of place with barely any force. Pilates has made it possible for me to strengthen, align, and improve every part of my body, allowing me to live a more functional life, all while in grippy ankle socks. I absolutely loved my first class at Uncommon Practice with Rachel. This group seemed so welcoming and the class was the perfect balance of those who were brand new to Pilates and seasoned patrons. My Pilates journey has brought me to about 5 studios and this was definitely inclusive and well taught. I got into Pilates to rehab after a foot injury and have found that it is a great workout with low impact that keeps your core strong for every day. Small class size and very friendly staff! This was my first experience on the reformer and everyone was super helpful and informative.

This place has changed my life, last January I was getting injections into my si joints and surrounding areas 3 times a week,I was seeing a chiropractor twice a week, having sciatic nerve pain and I was just in a miserable place physically and mentally. Physical therapy was NOT working for me, I went through 7 PT's over the course of 2 months and didn't get anything out of any of those experiences. When I came in to Firehaus for the first time I had no idea what Pilates was about and I questioned whether this was just another thing that I was going to attempt to do with little to no results, it's been 8 months now that I have been seeing Taylor twice a week and my progress / results I'm seeing are huge. She is a great instructor and has helped me with my back pain more than any doctor or surgeon ever could have. We do hour long private sessions that are specifically designed around my current needs. I don't know if I would necessarily get the same thing out of classes, the privates are perfect, really gives you a chance to work on the exact things you need. Joanna is an incredible owner, she keeps an immaculate space, abides by all current COVID-19 restrictions and policies, hires the friendliest and most helpful staff in the world, prices everything fairly , and everyone there are genuinely in it to help people, no one who works there is just there as a job, it's more than that. I went from zero hope, in pain 85% of the time and getting ready for back surgery, to being a strong person who doesn't even feel his back injury most of the time. I think this is something I'll do indefinitely, it's too rewarding not to. I'd give this place 10/5 stars if I could. read more

The only regret is that I didn't start here earlier. JoAnna has such a grace and patience about her that instantly makes you feel comfortable and confident. I hadn't done a workout in over 3 years; incredibly stiff and intimidated to step foot in any sort of workout but Firehaus changed my entire perception of how to move my body. I had misaligned hips, a knee injury and a bruised ego and I was immediately welcomed and accepted with open arms. Within 2 months JoAnna fixed me. I've never had a more functioning body than after I started at Firehaus and wouldn't recommend anywhere else for anyone wanting to start or expand their fitness journey! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I started going to Firehaus Pilates about 7 months ago. I have noticed a huge change in my body. I've done a few of the group classes, but mostly one-on-one privates with Rachel and Danielle. I delivered twin baby boys in February and needed to get my body back online after pregnancy. I had a significant diastasis-recti as well as a prior back injury. Both are healing and I am getting increasingly stronger. The staff at Firehaus are helping me reach my fitness goals. I began my journey with Pilates in May of 2012, and I am thoroughly impressed with the results I am gaining. Rachel and Claire are always on their game. So I'm sure that I'm not the only one with a "Groupon" problem. I grab up all these deals, food or otherwise and then realize past the expiration date that I got hosed. Well either way, I am now determined to at the very least get my moneys worth for what I paid -- and at Firehaus Pilates that was a $25 or good for one mat class (so much for that package of 5 group classes *womp womp*). The studio is right above Firehaus Salon, go through the back way, not through the salon like I did, although I'm sure they are used to it. There is ample street parking as well. I will say the studio is absolutely lovely, neat, exposed brick, bright natural light coming through the windows, a little mat studio and a TON of newer pilates machines in the larger part. My mat class was pretty good, very challenging and a very small class which I like. The only thing I think that would keep me coming back is the price, but then again all pilates studios are usually spendy this one is just a little on the higher end. I have been attending Firehaus for over 3 years for group classes and more recently for private sessions with Joanna. Firehaus kicks butt. A physical therapist recommended Pilates to me. I found Firehaus Pilates online and walked into the studio knowing nothing about Pilates. I'm not a gym person and was a bit nervous to start, but the staff totally won me over. The owners are super smart and friendly. They are knowledgeable about the specific muscles involved in "trouble spots" but understand the whole body picture too. It also helps that they are funny, and I find myself laughing at least once a workout. All the equipment appears clean and in good condition. They have added new equipment since I started (like the suspended ropes and cadillac). They also seem invested in continuing their own education, so it's not always the same workout routine. The staff members are very clear about the expiration date policy when you buy a package deal. They have several options, so it's easy to find a package with the right number of classes for you. I personally like the largest package deal because it makes me commit to more frequent workouts and a long-term schedule. My new hot beach bod thanks me! read more

I came in with chronic back pain (was literally unable to bend or twist at all my first session) after over 6 months of PT, and saw JoAnna for 8 one-on-one sessions that changed my quality of life by so much!! I now go to regular classes, and all of the instructors are great - especially JoAnna, Emily, and Taylor! I feel like I have a whole new body/back/posture. I've been doing private sessions with JoAnna for several months and I feel like I finally found my new pilates Home. Each session we make progress on addressing a lower back issue. She is very knowledgeable and always encouraging. The studio is beautiful, big and airy, exposed wood beams and lots of light. They have created many separate spaces so you can easily have a quiet private session while there is a class going on. Just tried this place after taking a hiatus from pilates for a while. I usually like the mat classes, and this studio has a few of them, but it definitely seems to focus more on the machines rather than the mats. It was nice to get back into it but I want to continue to learn to do things that I can do in my home as well and not always need to go into the studio to work on the machines. read more

New to town but not new to Pilates I went looking for a studio that used the Balanced Body equipment (in my opinion the best there is) and that had knowledgeable instructors. I found both and more at Firehaus Pilates. Rachel and Clare who run the studio not only know their stuff, they care about their clients as individuals, and as an added bonus they are creative and inventive in their approach to Pilates instruction. They have recently added to their staff and the new instructors are quite talented too. While I personally wish they offered more mat classes, I would heartily recommend joining Firehaus Pilates if you are just starting out or if you are experienced and want to be pushed to get stronger and even more in shape. I really enjoyed my time at Firehaus Pilates. I had several private sessions with Clare and she was wonderful to work with and knew exactly what my body needed. She treated me like a friend. I went to a few regular reformer classes also and they really kicked my arse! The only thing I did not appreciate about the studio was that I bought a package and the expiration was never explained to me so after 30 days, I lost a few classes I had paid for. It was impossible for me to use them in 30 days because of my job, so I was a little disappointed by this. My only other critique is that I wished they had a larger changing/bathroom area. They do have ample parking and the space is fantastic. I would recommend this studio for someone who wants a personal approach to pilates but who also has the dedication and time to go during 'regular business hours'. read more

I was diagnosed with Frozen Shoulder in January of 2013. After 3 months of PT I had made little progress and my Orthopedic Dr suggested surgery. I asked if he had ever prescribed pilates and he said, 'yes, but it rarely works.' I got him to agree that I could replace PT with pilates and started with private sessions at Firehouse Pilates. After just 3 months I was in full classes as Firehouse and 1x per month private with Rachel. Rachel was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! She knew how hard to push and when to push harder. Here I am six months later....FULL range of motion of motion in my shoulder AND my core looks better than it has in 20 years. I would highly recommend the team at Firehouse for both class style and private sessions. Oh and the new location is fabulous. read more

What can I say. These girls are amazing. I have chronic pain issues and Rachel is wonderful about always checking in and modifying when necessary. I can always tell if I haven't gone to class. I started at Firehaus Pilates in June 2013 and I have been addicted ever since. I have never been big on exercising but wanted to give pilates a shot because how much people rave about it and the types of bodies it produces. I am SO happy I decided to give it a shot and even more happy I went with Firehaus Pilates because these girls are the BEST at what they do. I have been working with Clare over the last 6 months and my body has completely transformed. Lean, toned and strong which is what I have always wanted it to be. The new studio location is amazing! It is always very clean and they have so much top of the line, awesome equipment. I found out about Firehaus Pilates because they were voted #1 on the AList for 2012. I'd been looking for a pilates studio so when this deal was offered I knew this would be a great opportunity for me. I ended up registering for three privates before cashing in on the deal and must say the classes/instruction were fabulous. I have serious low back problems and the classes at Firehaus have really helped. Rachel and Claire really know their stuff and it's so nice taking classes in a beautiful studio.
