On our December visit, it was FREEZING cold inside. The worker appeared to wait in his (warm) car until customers arrived. The "store" - It's a run-down, shabby, junky-looking building with empty boxes piled head-height inside next to the front storm door. Small selection, and what was there DID NOT appear to be any less expensive than items at any of the Shelton's stores, which offer immense selections (and heat in the winter).
Regarding the prices, we often buy the state-series small 9 to 16 shot cakes at Shelton's for around $12-$14. Similarly sized and similar weight cakes at Uncle Sam were about the same price.
While the Uncle Sam worker knew some fireworks, he seemed to depend a lot on the approx. one dozen videos (supplied by one brand) to sell his products. I've had very good luck at Shelton's with employee recommendations, and these Shelton's workers know a lot about their huge inventory.
In the end, I wondered why I was paying the same price for a limited selection in a dilapidated, messy building with no heat. I might put up with less selection and a ramshackle store if a) the prices were significantly lower, b) the selection was decent, and c) the staff provided better customer service.
My recommendation: Shop one of Shelton's stores, where you'll spend about the same (probably less), have more selection, get better customer service, and ENJOY the shopping experience.
