This place wasn't huge, but The staff was very helpful & the cashiers were the best. I recommend this place for your fireworks.

This is our first time buying fireworks so we kinda look around the internet for the best review and this place has the best review at Google. We went here today (two days before the fourth) and the place was packed! The place is small and no air conditioner, so if you are bringing kids like we did, just be prepare! They have pretty good selection of fireworks and you can ask someone to choose it for you. We bought like the simple stuff but it's totally worth it to go to this place. Cashier was super nice. Ambiance: Ambiance?!?.....At a firework store? YES!!!! This is a one room house, located on a industrial road on a small gravel lot behind the tracks. It exudes a shady, seedy, riff raff vibe. This definitely isn't your Krazy Kaplans mega store. Think discounts with a ruff around the edges vibe. The place is packed with people, no A/C, off duty police officer in a flak-jacket keeping order....kinda feels like a controlled riot. Selection: Obviously being a one room shop the selection isn't going to be as wide as a mega store but unless your putting on a major pyrotechnics show with the goal of having the Fire Dept come to your home, this place is just fine for putting on the average 4th of July party. They got the kid friend cones (pretty lights/sparks) as well as the huge mortars and cakes. Service: Here is where they shine. Everyone I spoke to took the time to explain the details on what they sold and was very knowledgeable and super friendly. They also throw in lots of free extras if spend a lot. Price: Definitely another plus here as on average the prices are lower the the mega stores. Overall: If your looking for a discount and an experience, check them out. read more

Fireworks sold out of a hot ass shanty. Grass and rock filled parking lot with folks parking wherever its possible. Their slogan is BoGO is a scam. BoGo means "buy one, get one" free. If you buy fireworks often then you know that this is a common way that they are marketed. Buy one get one free, buy one get four free, etc. Uncle Sam had hoped to show me how this marketing technique is a scam and how their pricing is loads better. (Me and everyone else that stops into their store) Instead of gimmicks and freebies, they indicate to you how their pricing compares to the rest. A couple neon colored signs at their main doorway indicates how their single unit pricing is comparable and sometimes at a better price point than their competitors. Which it sometimes is. Those neon colored signs I speak of are your common grade poster paper, kids hang in their bedrooms or use to advertise kindergarten lemonade stand pricing. If you want to make a statement about your pricing, go the mile. On every shelf and in every aisle show us your price on the item and a sample price we might see at a competitor. Major shopping outlets do this, so can you. There are a few novelties and firework specialties that they offer at pretty good pricing but a novice is not going to see it. Also, most people that are willing to go to the borders (IL/IN) to buy fireworks could care less. That's what I think. I'm of the rare variety, the kind that is willing to drive any distance to see what's out there and score the best of the best deals. Like 500 gram cakes for $15 dollars which is unheard of in these parts. 500 gram cakes are the kind that some would use to end a good night of firework displays. These typically sell (in these parts) for upwards of $40 dollars and definitely more. So now you're wondering, " so what is Jacob saying.. go or don't go?" If you're shopping on a budget and you haven't a clue or care about the more serious items, this is your stop. Best for a family or a novice. Those who read my review and know what I mean could pass it up. July 2012 shell collections were just okay, nothing out of the ordinary. OK, so it was coming up on News Years which is coincidentally my brother in laws birthday who is crazy with big light shows. So with this said, it is purely obvious that I needed to Bug Out on my small in-home supply of Sparklers and Morning Glory's. I went to Uncle Sams with a buddy of mine, and we was immediately greeted at the door by the finest Fireworks Concierge we have ever come across. It is great to shop somewhere local where the owner is in the business because they love what they do and not so much they love the money they make. Every single firework for sale came with a detailed description from our Concierge about the height, the effects the sounds and more that the particular firework we was looking at would display. This is much better than the standard in-the-box description that I am used to. And my girlfriend and I was quote thrilled with the detailed tour we received. after comparing my brother-in-laws personality with the description the Concierge was painting, I was able to present my Brother-In-Law with what what the family has labeled the best Family Even Fireworks display ever. The best part was I did it for all under $400 and got a million dollars worth of smiles. Great job Uncle Sam. I will defiantly be seeing you again next year. read more

One of the most unique shopping experiences of my life. The place is right off the railroad tracks and it appears the shop itself is made from railroad containers. I was there on 7/3 in the afternoon and there was a 30 minute line all the way out to the dirt parking lot. The people working there looked a little rough and shady but they were all really really nice, I mean major chain coffee shop barista nice. One guy was handing out free fireworks to the kids waiting in line. A guy at the door wearing a police uniform welcomed me with a nice smile and offered to answer any questions. You don't expect that when there is a mob of customers lined up to throw money at them no matter how they are treated. read more

I don't know anything about fireworks. At all. I do know that Jacob's "hot ass shanty" comment is correct. I was not dressed appropriately for a gravel parking lot and fans blowing hot air everywhere. Obviously, our trip was on a whim. I can say that the guy who helped us choose our selection (my BF knew exactly what he wanted, but was still inquisitive about other things) was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Brings me back to my "don't judge a book by it's cover" days. They gave us about 20% of our fireworks "for free," and also threw in some punks for lighting them. I shop at Uncle Sams every year - and get the same results - the place - like the reviews say below, is a fireworks shanty - and for good reason - they are not marking up everything 900% to give "six for free" and to pay for 1,000 annoying signs up and down the highway. I found this spot a few years ago - and the guys are willing to show you what the fireworks will do if you are going to spend a few bucks. They took care of me over New Year's Eve, and this year, the selection has some new mortars and bigger stuff that I am sure will light up the Berwyn neighborhood! This place is pretty cool but it's very tightly packed and it's hard to find specific things your looking for cause there's no signs. they try to keep them mostly organized by what the firework does but it doesn't always work out that way. I was walking around the little store for like 10 minutes just looking for some stupid smoke bombs. Despite that, they've got some awesome fireworks in there. read more

I am on a tight budget and we were able to get some fireworks, cheaper than Luke's, Cheap Big Bombs, and don't forget Krazy Kaplans, buy 1 get 6 free, but in the end it is higher, I paid like 87 dollars today and same as what we normally buy at CBB over off the I94 sky-way next to the casino, but I usually spend $135-145 so We SAVED!!!!!! This is our second year in a row at Uncle Sam's. Very convenient location right across the border. I used to drive all the way to Highland and fall for those by one get one free scams. Prices here are great! Owners are super friendly. There is usually a coupon available online and they are always throwing in freebies. I will never go anywhere else. This was our first 4th of July firework show thrown for our family and friends and without Uncle Sam Firework, it wouldn't have been as fun! Even though this place is small there is a TON of different fireworks. The staff is amazingly patient and will answer any questions you have! Everyone was really friendly! The place is OK. It really is steps away from the Illinois boarder. The building is pretty small, which makes it very tight inside if more than a few customers are there. They claim to have the best prices, and give the best deals, but I was not convinced. I didn't walk away feeling like I got a great deal. They didn't toss in any freebies at the end like other shops, and I spent $250. Just not impressed. Happy 4th of July! read more
