They have a good selection and they have the best prices in the Calumet Region. They don't do the BOGO stuff and if a person bothers to do the math the unit cost on many of their items (especially 200 gram cakes) is anywhere from 20-30 pecent cheaper. That can be significant if you are purchasing alot of merchandise. Big thumbs up to the owner and his family as I have always been treated well by them. (Fireworks) They are located in the same shopping area as Johnny Rockets fireworks, just across the lot. It's a tiny store relative in size to a Baskin Robbins location found in a strip mall. No deals. They offer deals only closer to July 4th and on the day of. Their main items are priced as is and if you did the math, i.e. take the price of one item and multiply by 3, it would almost seem like your getting that 3 for 1 price you got somewhere else. But, since people like to see bright orange stickers claiming 3 for 1, this is why this store is not popular. Another reason for lame popularity is their selection. Some items found here are not found at any of the other distributors; I would say they are better known for the "odds and ends" of fireworks. I.e. I found this box of 10,000 thunder bombs linked, at the top of the box is a wick about 8 inches long and 3 inches wide. You think its fake, but, one could actually light up that big wick and set that bad boy off! Also found Saturn batteries with fat whistles and assorted types of lady fingers. (Short and very thin firecrackers) What they lack are shells. (Shells are what make the flowers in the sky, not recommended for youngsters) read more

This location is very small and boasts a meager selection. The prices are not where they should be, and are often only discounted around the 4th of July. By around, I mean the day before or the day of. Once the selection gets picked over even for a short time, there isn't much left. The treatment of customers is not the greatest either. They seem to be bothered by you being there, and want to do the least amount possible to be of assistance. All in all, in Northwest Indiana, there are a LOT of better options out there. The store right across the Ultra parking lot from Big Daddy's, for example, is already an improvement. Stick to other stores, trust me you'll find better satisfaction elsewhere. read more

This year, I decided to shop around online and do some price comparisons. After a bit of research, I found Big Daddy K's kits and reloadables offered the best "bang for your buck" (pun totally intended!). Thad was super helpful and directed me to all the products on my list. I highly suggest you go here, instead of all those "Buy 1 get X free" places, since those stores mark up their products sky high (pun not intended on that one!). This is my new go to spot for fireworks. They have great prices all the time and don't jack em up to lure you in for a buy one and get more free. And they don't fill their store with the cheap dud crap to make their selection look larger. I wasn't expecting to see such a wide variety of stuff in a small shop. But damn. Came here again this year - TWICE - once with the wife and once secretly without (heee heee hee)... The first time, we brought both kids with and it was kind of a circus (WE were the circus). We were treated very well and spent a few hundred dollars. Turns out this is a family business and everyone working there seemed like nice folks. My brother was getting married and we were planning the bachelor party. We made the first trip elsewhere, and made our second trip to big daddy Ks. We should have come here first and foremost!! Thad was helpful, kind and a pleasure to talk with. My brother found a lot of YouTube videos on specific mortars and Thad was able to help us find each type and recommend other cool stuff. The first big box store we visited-- the workers didn't seem to care. Since this is a locally owned store, Thad and the others really cared. Prices lower than the big chain stores, even with their "Buy one get two free" schemes. Their selection was very good - seems to be better now than in years past. I was able to preview most of the items by watching the videos on their web site. They were out of a few items, but the substitutes recommended by the staff were fine.
