The food was fresh. The cowboy queso was amazing. But, it was way overpriced and had a super small menu. They basically offered fajitas, queso and a few taco options. We tried the carnitas tacos and like I said the ingredients were fresh but it was a bit dry. I also felt forced into one of three taco options because I didn't feel like fajitas. My wife and I split the 3 tacos, queso and each had a drink and wound up spending $60 read more

One of the worst experience I have on one of this Uncles Julios, waitress give us oily chips, watery sauce for the chip only after we requested some salsa for the chips he forgot to gave us, my table side guacamole's never reached my table before my the main food , no refill or straw for my kids, fajitas overcook and other ones raw. The only think he couldn't screw it was my margaritas read more

My favorite Mexican place to eat at. A more upscale Mexican place but the food is AMAZING. You can tell it's all freshly cooked and the seasoning on it is really good. Good place to have dinner with family. Queso and table side guacamole are so good. Love the chips and drinks here as well. read more

The good: Call ahead seating and reservations Atmosphere is great, large space and outside seating Bar is nice and they have happy hour specials Margarita- only commenting on patron margarita- was good but small for the price Good came out super fast The not so good: Carnitas tacos- they were dry all around. Pork was dry and burnt, and the little sauce on them was not as flavorful as the description on the menu led u to believe. Prices- very high for a chain like this. Especially for the quality. In short I may go back for happy hour and try another food item before I totally write this place off, but for the prices and quality I will not be taking our whole family back there bc el Tio is right around the corner with larger margaritas, good food and better prices! read more

Just got home from this location. I just want to say I love the Uncle Julios in Fairfax Va but the location in Gainesville is mediocre at best. First of, we all wanted to order the bacon wrapped shrimp they did not have any left on a Saturday night. The service was super slow, we literally waited half an hour after ordering to even get our drinks. Second, my brothers carne asada came raw and he was not asked how he would like his steak cooked. Lastly, my girlfriends shrimp quesadilla was undercooked and tasted funky. We will not go here again. Management was polite enough to take the Carne Asada off our bill and kindly encouraged us to not give up hope, but we have been here before and this was just icing on the cake. read more

The food is consistent ly great. The service is great. But its very noisy and hard to take older people to.

Great dinner with wife and friends. Quick friendly service. My wife loves the chocolate piñata! She calls it the "tink, tink, tink"! Lol

Made 5:30 reservations for my mothers birthday for a party of 10. We werre seated at 6pm...hmm.. We immediately ordered the chocolate pinata for the end of dinner thinking this would be a fun surprise for my mom and the grandkids. Our dinner was fine though waitress was no where to be found for refills. We finished our dinner, waitress cleared the table and we waited and waited and waited. Our waitress seemed to be avoiding us but we eventually flagged her down. We asked our elusive waitress to cancel the pinata as it was taking way too long.. Her response was "didn't the manager come talk to you?" We asked her what she meant by that and all she would say was "we were told if there was a situation to get the manager" We asked her what she meant and she indicated there was a 'kitchen' situation but nothing more and walked away to get our check. Stunned that we were left waiting for a pinata that was clearly never coming and no one ever said anything to us to let us know there was a problem?!? We waited at least 30 in..how long were they going to just let us sit there? And oh by the way..the manager NEVER came!! Terrible experience ..ruined our birthday surprise..and no apology not even from the waitress. Has to be the worst service received at a restaurant yet. read more

Ordered $32 fajitas, and they were brought to my table without the flour tortillas. The waiter (Victor...very nice gentleman) said their tortilla machine was broken, and he could only offer corn tortillas, which I did not want. I politely said that if I knew that I could not get tortillas with my fajitas, then I would not have ordered them. Victor was understanding and sent the manager (Brian) to my table. Brian arrived with an attitude and said corn tortillas is all he could offer me. $32 for a single serving of fajitas and no tortillas shells. Uncle Julio...train your managers to take care of your customers when the mishap is obviously the restaurants fault. My $32 fajitas were never even touched, and Brian offered no refund and was rude. Brian should not be customer facing as he is rude and arrogant...maybe promote Victor to do Brian's job. If you are hungry and in Gainesville. Va....Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Uncle Julios. I know I won't be back! read more

With the amount of Mexican Tex/mex QUALITY places in NOVA to chose from. ...why go here? It's yuppie centrally located. But wholly cow talk about overpriced!!!!!! Service was good. That's about all I can say. Food was bland. Hardly any meat on n my tacos. Pretty sure my 2 margaritas were light on tequila and what they charged my friend for tasteless queso should have been a crime. I only went because my friend wanted to go there. I had (hopefully) suggested others but didn't wanted to offend. This was my third visit. It will be my last. read more

I love the unique twists Uncle Julio's add to tried and true classics. We got a few 321 Margaritas and the bartender gave a few dry iced meringues. They had fun puffing out the cold air. We also ordered both types of chocolate piñatas and they were awesome. Prices are a little on the high side, but the quality of food makes up for it. I recommend the carnitas fajitas. read more

We have dined here twice now, service is ok, food was not good both visits. We're ordered cheese enchiladas and they come out cold, and cheese was like a solid brick. Management never came to our table. Also mixed drinks were horrible, found an unknown object in our chips & salsa. Won't go back, after trying this place twice and dropping over $150 both times, will not waste our time or our hard earned money ever again. read more

First time coming here, and was SO impressed!! Pros: the food was excellent. The service was wonderful. A very nice atmosphere. Cons: too much lemon juice in the guacamole. But that's my only complaint. Our server was Nicole. She was so nice and helpful! Will definitely be returning after the great service we received from her. read more

Just orders fajitas with chips, why are my chips stale. Most likely the last time I order from here.

Great atmosphere. Kinda busy, but expected for Saturday night. Great food. Margaritas were messy, salt down the side of the glass, rather than the rim, but tasted good. read more

Tacos are good. Salsa is good, not very spicy. The chocolate pinata is a fun experience but pricey. Atmosphere is usually good and normally have fair service. There isn't much competition in the way of Mexican food in the area so it is normally our go to for sit down Mexican. My daughter loves the bacon wrapped shrimp although I think it is overpriced. read more

Placed large to go order today to drive it 45 miles, a Mother's day treat. They forgot the 1st item on the receipt and when I called about it, they could care less. Terrible customer service and they have lost a client of many, many years. read more

One... I was meeting friends and the restaurant was empty and was told I needed be outside waiting outside of a completely empty restaurant (Monday at 11:30... literally no one inside n would need a table ultimately ) red rope to get inside but yet their "hand sanitizer" was empty . No Pinot Grigio, no Sauvignon blanc, just nasty Chardonnay...quesadillas were dry AF ( thrown in the trash before I even walked in my house with my nasty leftovers) Our waitress was sweet...Alissa However I was there a week ago and that was not the case... It was ridiculous today... I will not be back. I work in the restaurant business since I was 14 and I'm 53 and I would never treat anybody the way that I was treated today... I felt like Silkwood Where I need to go get a radiation shower before I could even enter the restaurant... I'm sorry I've been to multiple restaurants in this area and have never been treated like this... And yet they were allowing people to walk around inside of the restaurant without masks on!!!... Won't be back... oh and btw you have shrimp on the menu so why not shrimp quesadillas? If you have Diablo's and fajitas... why would it be such an inconvenience to make a shrimp quesadilla? Just asking read more

Just ordered food to go... my chips are so bendy I could roll it up into a spiral and it wouldn't break. No crisp or crunch at all like they're raw or something read more

My wife and I decided to take her sister here for her birthday, we have been to other Uncle Julio's, but this was our first time here, our waiter was super nice, and the food was really good, my kids are not fans of Mexican food, but they enjoyed it, but there were some negatives, the place on a Saturday wasn't all packed, yet it took quite a long time for our food to arrive, and although we told the waiter it was my sister in law's birthday, he didn't get the staff together to sing her happy birthday, even though I heard them twice singing for other tables, those small details is what stopped me from giving the place a five star, but it's the small details that matter sometimes. read more

Great Experience! I've been to this restaurant 5 times now. Each time, the food and the service has been great. The team is attentive to customers. The way for a table has been next to nothing. I will continue to dine there and recommend it to others. read more

Uncle Julio's in Gainesville's service is questionable. Host at the door grabbed menus and silverware and said to come....as we were walking the silverware and menu were dropped on a table and he kept walking. My guest asked me if the host meant for us to sit at that table. I told him I guess so. We sat at the table that had enough crumbs in the cracks and crevices for an appetizer on its own (not thoroughly cleaned). Our waiter was friendlier however lacked a lot of knowledge of the items on the menu. The food and drinks were good. Uncle Julio's in Gainesville receives 1 star for customer service, 1 star for cleanliness, and 3 stars for food. read more

Good food nice atmosphere. My wife go here every couple months or so. We usually go early but occasionally later and have to wait to be seated. If we make a reservation it's usually an hour or so on a Friday or Saturday night before we arrive so waiting is on both us and them hence the 4 stars of you can't seat is don't give us the reservation time. The table side guacamole is fantastic along with the homemade tortilla chips. I never had a bad meal here and have been trying different items from the menu all being quite good. I have only been to the Gainesville Virginia location. read more

We are done coming here. Goto the Woodbridge location. Service blows here. Waiting over and hour to be seated and came early. Passed up by others and they gave us some lame excuse. Now at z table for over an hour for shrimp tacos, 5 tables around us seated after us have been served meals and 3 have already checked out. Now it's a waiting game to see how screwed up this place will end up. read more

I love all of Uncle Julios locations but Gainesville is something special! Came in with the family for my birthday and we had an amazing time! Need to give a special thanks to Mariam for making the evening so special. She made us feel like family and made us laugh all night long! Had some small issues when the kitchen messed up our order but then Mariam came to the rescue and made sure everything got taken care of! Thank you Uncle Julios for your awesome food and a special thanks to Mariam for all her hard work and taking care of our table all night and making my birthday something special! read more

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Parking: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 My family and I visit this place every few months and have always had good experiences here. The food is good and the service is always good as well. I highly recommend getting the chocolate pinata! It is really yummy! read more

Loud, expensive, and food is just ok. Too many other options for "Mexican" food to choose this place.

This is my favorite Uncle Julio's around. In early days, they had some kinks to iron out, but now they're on top of it. I find that the best service is always at the bar tables! read more

I've eaten at other Uncle Julio's and don't remember it being bad. The glutenous gel that was served as salsa was horrible! No fresh tomatoes or cilantro or fresh anything. While the server was great, the food was poor. The fish tacos were served on tortillas that were thick and gummy, more like pita bread and I found two small pieces of fish. My fiance's shrimp tacos were even more forgettable. I cannot recommend this Uncle Julio's. read more

Chips: 5. Salsa:4. Queso and guac: 5. Best carne asada ever. Thick and tender. Steak fajitas are really good. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because I can't stand their Mexican rice and beans. Black beans would be so much better and that rice just tastes bad to me. read more

Their chips were the best! the service was great, it was a really great atmosphere, I haven't been anywhere that cool in a long time! The chicken quesadilla was the delicious! I actually liked their guacamole and salsa con queso! It was so Authentic! I really wish I would've bought the piñata! Please buy it in honor of me when you go! I hope my review helped! read more

I've been going to Uncle Julio's for many years and we're always very happy with the food they prepare. During COVID, it's nice to have a takeout option where the establishment provides you with excellent food, large portions and convenient pick up. When I arrived at the restaurant, I parked in one of the takeout order parking spaces, texted them my parking space number, and my food was delivered within minutes. We ordered a family meal for four and everything was delicious. Such a great convenience during these challenging times. As always, I highly recommend them. read more

What can I say? Uncle Julio's is top notch. The food is always so good and the service so fast and wonderful. The enchiladas, ahi tuna fajitas, nachos, chocolate piñatas, man I'm hungry now. I'd recommend making a reservation bc it seems all the establishments are busy during peak dinner hours. Aside from that you can't go wrong with any meal here. read more

Uncle Julio's is a wonderful family restaurant. The staff there are great and extremely helpful! The decor is really cool as well. If you order their chocolate piñata you can watch them out it together. If you want to go there for a date, they have a really nice area that is not as loud as the family area. Check them out! Great food, great times!! read more

Good service. Plenty of chips and dip. The food was very fresh and delicious. Paying at the table with the portable computer was cool.

This experience started off bad because I made a reservation for our Saturday evening visit and the table was ready 20mins after our reservation time, it was meant to be a surprise party for our birthday guest but service made it better for us! Our waiter Mohammad was great and made great recommendations for our drinks and food choices. I'll be coming back but hopefully reservation time will be on point next time. El jefe was on point, if you like the spicy drink and the smoking margarita was on point for sweet lovers. read more
