When I was planning to serve a large group on Saturday, hot links and rib tips had to be on my menu. The event was in Homewood and I am not from the area. I had the hot links several years ago when I stopped.while passing through and remembered how good they were. Well, despite other options suggested I went in Friday afternoon and ordered a pan of each for Saturday pickup. Both were being packaged as I walked in 5 minutes early. Food was hot and when I got back and the trays were opened I wish I ordered more. Despite plenty of other items , the rib tips and hot links disappeared quickly. Once I arrived at 9:45pm and they said they were closed but the sign said 10pm..... then I tried again on another day, luckily I checked my order in the car because none of the food had bbq sauce on it. I ordered a jumbo tip and link and this is what I got as far as tips, it came with 3 links. I get home and realize I only got enough tips for 1 maybe 1 and a half. I call to see if a mistake was made and the lady say a jumbo is only 20 ounces. Mind you a regular whole tip cut up is about 10 ounces. So I should at least have 2 whole tips in a jumbo. I call bs and say I will never come back and disconnect the call. Tell me why this lady call me back and say the jumbo tip and link don't come with 20 ounces it's just called jumbo because it has links. Do this lady know who she talking to is what I thought. You have this same combo in another size which should differentiate the amount of tips and links in each size. Also I got a jumbo turkey tip and the sauce taste like ketchup. Ordered delivery received half of it. I spoke with the super polite driver at delivery. She was adamant that was all they gave her. I called the store. They told me "talk to them must be the driver" and hung up. GrubHub will refund whatever but the store absolutely worst customer service totally didn't care to make it right at all. My daughter's chicken and tips were OK. The coleslaw was just a cup of sauce. There was basically no cabbage or veg product of any sort in the cup. The beans were OK. Hubby saw this place on the news and wanted to give them a try. We typically call our orders in because the wait is so long, but because we were coming home from work, we decided to stop in. The place is located within a strip mall that has a gas station. I think it would be hard to miss, especially if you are not expecting a setup like this. Parking is limited, but we were able to pull in the last spot, but people are constantly coming and going, so maybe it's not so much of an issue. My husband ordered the jumbo rib tips, but the cashier rang up the jumbo tips and links instead, which he didn't realize until we arrived home. This was my second trip to Uncle Johns. The online ordering was a bust as when I got there it didn't take (but it did take my money). They were able to look it up once I gave them my order number so that turned out fine. They got my order together faster since I preordered so I am assuming someone had to wait a minute longer for theirs! I ordered the small rib tips and sausage and a 4wing chicken dinner. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned. Sausage was okay and the rib tips were good. I forgot to ask for crispy aka done! fries so they were the usual soggy Chicago style undone. My fault! They charge .75 for sauce on the side. Mind you, the cup probably costs less than a dime and they give you less sauce if they splashed it all over your food so they would make out without charging for it. When I arrived I saw special sides of the day on the board. Sweet potato pie, Mac and cheese and something else. I opted for the Mac and cheese. Should've gone for the pie. The meal came with three hotlinks, but honestly it was just a single hotlink cut into three pieces...it tasted like it'd been made sometime over the weekend and reheated for however many hours until it sold. Visited this place today 5/13/2021 and the service was horrible. Me and another gentlemen waited 7 minutes just for some one to come see what we needed, let alone acknowledge that we were there. I literally waited for 7 minutes while 2 workers continue to make orders. Another gentleman walked in with logs and proceed to go to the back where he also did not acknowledge us or see what we needed, if we had been waited on or not. We I finally picked up my order I found it cold, potentially due to me being there for 10 minutes as I waited for someone to see what I needed. I have visited this place multiple times and have never had this experience however, I will not go back. Management, my feedback, ensure that whenever someone walks into your establishment that they are greeted and acknowledged. Walked in today got a small Turkey tips. The prices was kind of high but I understand. I don't mind paying if its quality food. I paid for my food the guy told me 10 mins. I turned around and before I walked out the cook said "here's the small Turkey tip". I said to myself this is going to be interesting. I got home. I wanted rib tips and decided to try a new location. I ordered both tips and a pulled pork sandwich. Both were okay. The meat was tender but I've tasted better sauce. That wouldn't prevent me from going back. As you guess there was a problem. 1) The environment wasn't observing COVID guidelines any possibly violated some health department rules as well. No one had on a mask or gloves. Those handling the food were walking around in winter coats and jackets in the kitchen. I ordered food from here three or four times in the last two years. In the past, the food was good, but the service was always a problem. My orders were never ready when I arrived. One time, I waited more than 30 minutes beyond my pickup time. On my last trip, I ordered the beef ribs, chicken wings, and hot links. The online receipt did not give me a pickup time, but based on past experience, I waited one hour before I picked up my food. When I arrived, I was told that one part of my order was not ready yet, so I waited inside. I noticed that three young men were working in the back. They were having a conversation while they were working. Every other word they used was a curse word. I then realized that none of the guys were wearing masks. The young lady taking orders was the only one with a mask. Next I noticed one guy was checking his phone in between orders and he was not wearing gloves. At one point, the young lady reminded the guys to complete the rest of my order. A few minutes later, the worker who was checking his phone, asked what kind of sauce I wanted on my wings. This means I waited more than an hour and fifteen minutes for 10 fried chicken wings! Is it me? after asking for the prices of these options she is presenting me, I was shocked to discover her options are more than what's advertised on the menu. Her response - "take it or leave it..." This place has to be one of the best tasting barbecue joints I've been into! I enjoyed the customer service, and the food quality was superb. I recently came across them when they had the location in Richton Park, but they closed that one, and I assumed rebuilt it over in Homewood. When I say it's finger licking good I mean just that, plus you get so much food that you can eat off it for a few days. I had their Turkey Tip, and Wing combo. Some folks can't do turkey tips... they're either too chewy, and dry. Not Uncle Johns! They,re tips were smoked to perfection, and those wings were slap yo Momma bangin!
