I met with Kurt yesterday and the experience was both under and over whelming. He barely looked up from his iPad when I walked in and then when we sat down, started off immediately with what HE wanted to get out of tattooing me. We didn't even discuss what I wanted because I was bombarded with about 5 minutes of being told expectations and what he allows and accepts. I won't be going back. I think some artists need a bit of a reality check and Kurt is one of them. You are providing a service and putting something permanently on another human being. That person's desires for what you are putting on their body trumps expanding your portfolio. I like Kurt's work but I would never want to spend hours upon hours with someone who thinks that sort of communication and lack of concern for the person that you are tattooing is acceptable. I have more pleasant experiences with opposing counsel on a daily basis than I did with Kurt -- that's sad. Def needs some work on customer service and just overall human interaction. read more

Kurt Jacobsen has been my trusted go-to tattoo artist for close to a decade, when he was part of Perfection Dermagraphics. Needless to say, when my homie started and opened "Unbreakable Ink", it was a no-brainer for me. Not only is Kurt such a great artist, he is the most professional and friendly one. Unbreakable Ink is located right near 53 off of Hicks Road. It's part of a commercial strip of buildings, and has a parking lot. Inside, the place is well-lit and extremely professional looking (almost like a doctor's office). I say this because some people might think of a tattoo shop as a dark tinted-window building, with lots of heavy music blasting and if you are intimidated by (or like) that, keep that in mind. There is a waiting room with Netflix, coffee, and a comfy couch. A really nice setup to relax and talk in. Reception area right near the front. There are two private tattoo rooms, and a larger room, with shared space. Kurt tattoos out of one of the private rooms. So the way it works here is you go in for a consultation. You bounce off ideas and/or show them a drawing/sketch that you want. They'll take the time (~3months can be expected) to sketch your drawing. So if you're looking to get a fresh tattoo before that last second Vegas trip, you may want to keep this in mind. They will try to work with you in terms of timing, and they have other tattoo artists that may have a quicker turnaround time. But let me tell you, Kurt is worth the wait. When it is ready, they'll contact you with the sketch. You come back, check the design, change, and/or approve it once its all good, and then you schedule an actual tattoo appointment. On the actual day of appointment, Kurt has everything laid out on the table, with needles in freshly unopened packaging. His workstation is extremely clean, well-lit, and organized, much like the entire shop. He'll review and have you go over a waiver, and post-op procedures (ie how to clean your tattoo area, etc). After that, its time to get it done! As I said before, Kurt is extremely professional and nice. I call him my therapist with a tattoo gun. I thoroughly enjoy chatting up with Kurt as he does his thing and Kurt is very cognizant about what he's doing during our chat sessions. For an example, if he thinks he's about to hit a more tender spot, he'll give you a heads-up and let you know. Full communication is what I value. As with all work, his is lifetime guarantee, so touch-ups or dissatisfactory work is covered. Hourly breaks are expected and the time goes by fast, IMHO. Overall, a pleasant experience and process. If you're looking for a tattoo and you're in the suburbs, heck, even if you're not in the suburbs, definitely take the journey to Unbreakable Ink. I've never been disappointed with the work Kurt has done. BATHROOM REVIEW: You know me; I always do a review of the bathrooms, everywhere I go. I can't say enough good things about my experience at Unbreakable Ink, specifically with Jack Mitchell. After years (a decade plus) of wanting a tattoo and waiting until I came up with an idea I felt strongly enough to move forward with, I started looking for the right artist. I reviewed the portfolios online of a number of different options, and Jack's work stood out to me. I reached out and set up a consult and sent Jack a few ideas. From that first meeting I could tell Jack was going to be great to work with. He was super welcoming and friendly during our first consult, and took the time to hear what I had in mind as a starting point. From there we worked on the ultimate design of my piece, which runs from my shoulder to just below my elbow. Jack brought some ideas to the table that had never crossed my mind and which we ended up incorporating into the tattoo and now I love them. The actual tattoo experience itself was also as good as I could have expected. Sure there were portions that hurt, but that's to be expected! We did the entire piece in one day, so it was about a 7-hour session with lots of breaks to recharge along the way and get ready for more. All along the way Jack was good at checking in to make sure I was doing OK, asking for my opinion on the piece along the way to see if I had any thoughts or changes, and even did the little things like ordering takeout for dinner as a nice break along the way. As a newbie this was my first tattoo experience, and I can't say enough good things about it. Would highly recommend Jack for anyone in the market for a new tattoo, whether it's your first or your 100th piece. You can see some pictures the artists drew printed and hanging on the walls, and they are beautiful! Best thing is - they design your own tattoo and you can change the design as many times as you want until you are absolutely sure that this is the tattoo you want, you pay only for the tattoo session itself. The only downside is the wait time - they are booked for months ahead - yes, they are that good! I have recently had a tattoo done by Kurt and I'm 200% happy with his work and the service provided. I recently had work done by Kurt. I cannot express how much I appreciate him, his talent and his devotion to perfection. The tattoo is flawless and simply epic. I sat for nearly 12 hours. Didn't think I could do it, but I was able to because of how comfortable I was during the session, thanks to him. Not going to lie, when he first told me he only does 1/2 or full days, I was a bit intimidated. Pay attention during the consultation and come to your appointment prepared, it makes a huge difference on your stamina and your experience. If you are looking for a walk in tattoo parlor where you show up, show Kurt the picture you want tattooed and leave with a tattoo, this is not the place for you. There will be a wait and there is a process. Kurt is very clear and transparent about all of that during the consultation. If you are looking to commission a piece of art and willing to allow him to be the artist he is, you will not be disappointed. It will require a bit of faith on your part (don't all tattoos do though?), but trust me it is well worth it. I am giving two stars because i genuinely love the work done by the artists here (Kurt and Jack... ) But I'm having a difficult time actually getting the ink done. I met with Jack a week ago for a consultation, planned a great tattoo and a time for the following weekend to come back and get in the chair... Well the morning of the appointment I get a text from Jack asking if I could come in later that day instead. My schedule didn't allow for that so Jack said he had time the next day, Sunday, so I didn't have to wait too long. At first I was bummed but was happy he tried to accommodate me so quickly.... It's now Monday morning and I have heard nothing back from Jack. He didn't even text me a picture of the design like he said he would. We love all the guys here, they are all so kind and friendly and they all have serious talent! We work with David, he's super awesome dude who has crazy color and line work skills. We've referred a bunch of our friends to him and they've all loved the work he's done on them too. He never rushes because he wants you to have the best experience possible.
