First review in 7 years. Dr. Shah prescribed an antibiotic for me. 2 days later, after a hard workout, I began to experience severe swelling in my left calf. I've read that antibiotics can cause tendon flare-ups (specifically in this area), so I called Dr. Shah's office and gave my symptoms and history. I was given no feedback from the office at all other than, "If you want any information, you have to make an appointment. We can see you next week." Clearly nobody with any medical training ever received my message. If they had, the obvious response would have been, "You need to go to the ER right now." With no guidance from my doctor's office, I was left to my own internet-guided intuition on this thing. It really felt exactly like a pulled muscle, and I went on assuming I was having a reaction to the antibiotic. Days later I discovered that I had a bad case of DVT (blood clot) in my leg, a part of which had broken off and moved to my lungs. Is it Dr. Shah's fault that I didn't go to the ER earlier? No. Would I expect this kind of symptom to receive attention from my doctor's office when I tell them about it over the phone? Of course. I was released from the hospital and called Dr. Shaw's office to ask for an email so I might alert someone beyond the doltish receptionist that their policy of "Dr. Shah talks to nobody, receives messages from no one", might be in some cases flawed. I explained the above story and the response was literally, "If you are having problems with your prescription, you can call the nurse. Her hours are..." It was bizarre. Like talking to a robot devoid or deprived of the ability to think for itself. Like so many folks have said: Do yourself a favor. Select a different dermatologist. read more

My daughter is visiting me from Barrington Hills. She just was telling us about her & her husband's visit to Dr. Shah to get their annual skin exam. The receptionist was rude.... Then the first question the Dr. Asked my daughter was, "What is your ethnic back ground?". My daughter never sat down or took off one article of clothing. I am livid. My daughter now has to wait until next year to have a covered exam by her insurance. Dr. Shah obviously does not do her job. I have been to the dermatologist many times. I take off my clothes and lay under a light blanket. She stands over me with a light on her head and above me, asking a dozen questions as she goes. She touches anything that looks suspicious. America is sick and tired of Doctors NOT doing their job and billing the Insurance Company. read more

Dr. Shah might be the nicest doctor I've ever seen in my life. She is patient, kind, and understanding. She helped cure me of my anxiety around healthcare. I saw her because I was concerned with some of my moles and "beauty" marks due to many years of excessive tanning and sun exposure. She helped me out and took off a few that concerned her. There was some scarring, but that's ok--I'm glad they're gone. However, when I showed her one on my leg that concerned me she brushed it off and said it was fine. I insisted that she remove it. The biopsy came back as no good. I'm glad I trusted my gut but that hurt my trust towards Dr. Shah, which is a shame because she's so darn like-able. Dr. Shah is a fantastic physician. I have taken all four of my children there and have seen her as a patient myself. The first time I saw her, I was there with my then four year old daughter who had a skin condition that no one could seem to pinpoint. Within minutes, she knew what the problem was and was able to come up with a treatment plan that resolved her issues. She also had severe eczema. Eight years later, my daughters skin is great. My older daughter had a wart. Using cutting edge technology, Dr. Shah was able to resolve that problem as well. My two other children? Eczema. Cleared up. Me? Adult acne and then a c-section scar that was very painful. Both issues solved by Dr. Shah. For eight years, she has treated my family. She remembers each of us and treats us like family. Dr. Shah is wonderful! So sweet!! I went there in Jan to clear up some acne i was battling for a few months. She suggested a medication id never tried before. And a skincare regimen. I'm an esthetician and know the importance of quality products. In my professional career Ive encountered many skincare lines that dint live up to what they preach. But her line DOES. Her line has worked so well, i stopped taking the medication i was on, and my skin has remained clear for months with just her products. My absolute favorite is the glycolic cream! I have been seeing Dr Shah annually for many years and I can assure you she is a well trained, well educated wonderful Doctor. She has a keen eye and can identify skin concerns in seconds. Dr Shah removed a freckle from my belly that turned out to be a bad one. Since then she examines my entire body and checks for anything that could be dangerous. She has also helped my Uncle with some basil cell cancer and he is doing really well. The staff is friendly and courteous. Sometimes the Dr will recommend special lotions and products for varying skin conditions, they are not covered by your insurance in all liklihood but if the the problem bothers you enough it maybe worth the expense. Plus Dr Shah is very nice and comforting to be around. I would recommend this Doctor to anyone. read more

Not to play devil's advocate, but how do you all know this doctor did indeed write that post and her account wasn't hijacked by a family member or another individual? Aren't you all then guilty of bullying just as much? Might be nice to get all the facts before you hit that keyboard and irrevocably damage someone's reputation. I saw Dr. Shah about a questionable spot on my face. A biopsy was done. One week later, Dr. Shah called. She told me, I have skin cancer, "...but it's not the kind that grows in." Then, she said she'd scheduled me for a procedure Jan. 7, at 11:25. I was scared and shocked. I didn't ask any further questions at the time, and no further explanation was offered. I'd never heard the word cancer before related to me. I spent a very anxious 7 days waiting to contact the office, during their hours, to get more information. I had called, but with the holidays, they were away from the office. I left 3 messages on an extension identified as one for "medical questions." I explained that I was experiencing a lot of anxiety, sleepless nights, and fear after hearing the words skin cancer. I wanted to know the exact diagnosis and anticipated procedure, so that I might research further, and put my mind at ease. No return call ever came. I do not think it unreasonable to have expected a 5 minute return call from Dr. Shah or her nurse to help alleviate my fears. I've never known a doctor that didn't pick-up messages, and that wouldn't take 5 minutes to calm a patient's fears. On Jan. 5, when I finally reached someone in the office, she was rude and offended that I'd expected a call back when the office was closed. I said I needed to know the diagnosis and name of the scheduled procedure, the woman who answered the phone, an office staff member, not a nurse or Dr. Shah, told me I had basal cell carcinoma, and that an "excision" would be performed. Still, no contact from the doctor or nurse. I went in today, Jan. 7, for the procedure, having had no discussion with the doctor or nurse about the diagnosis, treatment options, potential risks, preparation for the procedure, or future concerns. These are all questions that the Mayo Clinic and the American Academy of Dermatology, on their websites, suggest one discuss with their doctor before treatment. The office manager and Dr. Shah, both treated me disrespectfully. Their behavior, words, and attitudes were the most unprofessional and callous I've ever experienced. Apparently, my three calls asking for a call back irritated all involved in this practice. Dr. Shah, when she entered the examination room to do the excision of my cancer, made incredibly rude comments, offered no apology, and showed no remorse for the callous treatment I received from her office manager. On the contrary, she suggested my calls had been bothersome to everyone in the office. Minimally, from the doctor and her staff, I expected compassion regarding my fears. Whether my reaction to hearing the words skin cancer was considered reasonable or not by the doctor, she has chosen a profession that requires empathy and professionalism in all interactions. She practiced neither in dealing with me. Sadly, these people took my fears and anxiety and made it personal. It wasn't about them. If Dr. Shah has no intention of screening her answering machine for patient calls related to treatment, she ought to make that clear on her recording. I have gone to Dr. Shah for 2 years, and each time I have gone she has been kind and caring, knowledgeable and professional. I have had various skin issues and she has helped with each one, including a biopsy of one, treatment for another, and medication for another. I am happy to say that I am not bothered by those skin issues anymore. Thank you Dr. Shah. read more

I've seen Doctor Shah for several years and have been happy overall. However, I recently had a very unpleasant experience at her office and will not be returning. She performed sclerotherapy several months ago, and I ended up with just about every complication on their list including three ulcerated spots which have yet to fully heal. I acknowledge I entered the procedure aware of the risks and possible complications, and also that I probably waited too long to follow up (I know it takes time to heal and did not want to be pushy about it), but I was extremely disappointed on a follow up visit I recently scheduled. Both Doctor Shah and her nurse lacked compassion and professionalism. It was clear from both of their demeanors that my legs didn't look the way they should, but they didn't acknowledge any responsibility for the unfortunate outcome. Regarding the ulcers on my legs, I was told, "it happens." Also they may want to invest in thicker doors, as I heard them whispering about me while I waited in the exam room. When I first started to see Dr. Shah years ago, I had read terrible reviews about her but thought I'd give her a try. She was good for the first few years...I recently went to see her asking for a full skin check. Not only did I not receive one, I was supposed to pull up/down whichever piece of clothing covered 'what I was worried about'. She barely looked at me, told me that the moles I had which had grown larger, changed color and texture were fine. She couldn't leave the exam room fast enough. She was rude, abrupt and not remotely helpful at all. Every one of my friends who I described the visit to said the same thing: it's time to get a new doctor. read more

Just beware before you fill out the required registration forms and see the doctor. In the "Consent for Treatment" form is an agreement to their No Refund policy. Your Skin treatment might end up being non-medical, non-refundable facial products (see her website for product listing) that are extremely expensive and not covered by insurance. I visited the doctor on a recommendation from a hospital regarding a skin infection. I found her friendly. However, she did not really "listen" or discuss the original problem, but moved directly to a treatment schedule. I was totally unprepared for the fact that the expensive products she gave me were just that; products. And I could not return them. When I tried, the office staff was extremely rude and insulting ("You're an adult. You know what you signed." and "What, do you think you can just buy a car, change your mind and return it, too?" and "I think we're done here.") Dr. Shah-Sheth is a legit doctor, and I've seen other good reviews. So perhaps if it's a medical condition that has a specific "medical" treatment, she's fine. (I'm trying to be fair here). But if it's a general skin condition, beware that it's all about selling non-refundable expensive products, with no sympathy if you were unaware. First time I saw Dr Shah, they sold me overpriced skin cream available for half the price in stores. Next time, they overdid the treatment on my fingers where my fingers swelled up and I still have scars on my fingers 3 years later. I was in so much pain that even a phone call right after my visit to consult the doctor was "not allowed" - policy - Dr Shah doesn't talk on the phone to the patients. So, I had to make an appointment with her costing me lot of more money simply to ask a followup question from previous visit, and when she entered she announced nurse did not overdo the treatment (before even looking at my hands), and when asked how long does it take to heal, answer "Don't know, depends". I could not believe that I got conned again, this time because she refused to talk on the phone, made me schedule another appointment, and the answer "don't know, depends." I made a huge mistake by reconsidering this doctor after the overpriced sale they made on me first time.
