Returning phone calls takes 2 days. You make an appointment at a certain location, they schedule you at a different location. You cannot call the pharmacy direct to ask questions or obtain a refill. You call leave a message, they call back, then they have the pharmacy call you. Thats ridiculous. Too many excuses. I use the Lindenhurst, IL. location. Frustrating! read more

A few weeks ago, I was laughing while reading all of these 1 star reviews. Now I am writing one. And for a very good reason. So before I saw all of the "great" reviews this place has, i decided to make an appointment. I made my appointment, and as soon as I finished- the Yelp reviews popped up. Yup. Over 100 1 star reviews. I read quite a few and instantly decided that I needed to save myself a headache and cancel my appointment. I called this place and left a very detailed voicemail of all my information, stating I just made an online appointment 5 minutes ago and would like to cancel because of how poor the reviews are. Nobody called me back, so I assumed they cancelled my appointment. A few days later I received a reminder text about my upcoming appointment...I responded right away and left another voicemail (does anyone pick up phones at this place lol) explaining that I have already cancelled this appointment. No response. Again. A few weeks later...I received a $50 bill for not showing up to my appointment!!! Hahahaha oh my. Now I see what all of these yelp reviews are talking about. Horrible experience. I never set foot in this office or talked to one person and they have the audacity to try and charge me $50?? Even after I left 2 very clear and detailed voicemails explaining that I want to cancel and stated my reason for cancelling. I even texted their text system every time they tried telling me I have an appointment. They do not use a DONOTREPLY texting system, they can absolutely see the texts. So 4 attempts to cancel an appointment and they still try to charge me $50 for a no show. I already called their service number and was met with an interesting conversation. The lady on the other end told me that the appointment I made was for the very next day and since I cancelled the appointment, it was within 24 hour notice so I was charged. She also said since this is my first time, they will clear the charge. Cool. I accepted what she said and they got rid of the charge. ...but what she said was not true at all. My appointment was for 5 days after I set the appointment. I got a text confirming that I made an appointment. I also got another text reminding me about my appointment a day before the scheduled date. I didn't bother telling the lady this on the phone because she said she was getting rid of the charge. I'm confused as to why she lied about my appointment being made for the very next day and that my cancellation violated their 24 hour rule. I first cancelled the appointment 4 days before the actual appointment. Oh well. This "business" if you can even call them that - is an embarrassment. I truly believe every single one star review I see for this place. I have experienced it myself. They are not organized, they clearly don't listen to voicemails or take the time to cancel someone's appointment so they can try and snake you for $50. Im convinced they didn't even bother to look up the fact that I did call them and text them multiple times. They just gave me some BS they give to everyone "you canceled within the 24 hr period you owe us $50". I can imagine a lot of people just accept this and pay. What a horrible business practice. The only positive thing I can say about Derick Dermatology is their office is nice, Beyond that for get it. I had a surgery that left an old possible cancer wound to appear again. I went to Derick to get it checked.To start with, PA's come out not a doctor, I was checked out and then had a biopsy of the spot, it is now the size of a half-dollar, and it is oozing and quite painful, I was called in cream. I had left instructions to please call me if something was wrong. Today, on my birthday no less, I got a message saying to download the results. Unreal they are bad and the doctor couldn't call me? Had reaction to adhesive after surgical incision for in situ squamous cell. Called day of said I was itching they told me use ice. Never had this w prior incisions. Called 2 days later, now a 6x6 rash Saturday morning. Had to talk to 4 people in 45 min. Their portal was down. Couldn't upload pics. One who answered sounded like she just rolled out of bed. Finally get call from PA who did incision. So if it's minor the docs no longer do :/. She confirmed a reaction . Took me 4 days to figure out what wound care would work. I had to remove sterile strips because of reaction. I also asked that morning to be seen at the Bartlett office which was open they said no openings??? Went 5 days later and was told be sure to bring your bandaging next time you come. You mean to tell me a practice this large has never dealt with a patient with adhesive allergy?? You don't have appropriate wound care for those patients? After 6 yrs switching to a practice where I see a DOC. read more

I went in when I was still new to my full time job and insurance's medical coverage. I trusted Derrick Dermatology and all of its employees to abide by the HIPPA regulations, but afterwards I found myself to be mistaken. I did not wish to have a "suspicious mole" removed on the same day as my very first appointment. I simply knew from past medical experiences that there are some inappropriate billing practices going on today. I was rudely told that it was not ok for me to wait to remove a part of it for a biopsy that day and was rudely asked if I wanted to sign paperwork stating my refusal when I would have absolutely no problem doing so. I simply wanted my skin checked and scanned for possible skin cancer concerns, ask about any procedures and basically connect with the doctor in order to feel confident they were the right fit for me. I already felt I was not going to continue seeing this provider and a few days later my gut instinct was confirmed. An innocent coworker and I were discussing my situation that made me feel uncomfortable and to my surprise she told me she knew a female who worked at Derrick Dermatology! She then began to tell me a "funny story" the Derrick Dermatology friend had told her. It happened to be my story! The employee was making a joke out of my refusal to have the mole removed for a biopsy. Not interested in this type of practice that employees "gossip girls." I happen to be recently married and I want to protect my husband's privacy as much as mine and also our future family's privacy. I will not be going here and if you choose to do so, I hope that there are better employees there now that respect privacy! read more

I followed my Dermatologist to Derick Dermatology. I had a diagnosis that required an excision. Apparently, the dermatologist I followed to this practice doesn't do procedures anymore, and I was scheduled with another physician who only does surgeries. To begin with the medical assistant administered the lidocaine. Not even sure if that's medically legal! I felt my skin was not prepped in an antiseptic fashion. I had to ask for her to cleanse it. And when the doctor came in, she and the medical assistant were gossiping about another employee as the doctor was doing the procedure. It was as if I wasn't even there. It was awful. I will not be going back. I will say their customer service on the phone was very good . But the medical assistant administering medication and the gossipy doctor while performing the procedure was not at all professional. Skip this Big Box Dermatology group. read more

Then the woman said that "billing" canceled my appointment because of an unpaid bill from a year ago. (It was paid), but no call or email or text to say it was canceled. The office manager then said, well you didn't pay your bill, but it's confusing cause there's no record of the unpaid bill... Confusing? She asked me if I wanted to reschedule. 1st: Phone system gets a zero. On hold for 40min, add my # for a call back. Finally get the call back and it disconnects right away. You would think since they are calling you back they would try again. Nope. Have to call back again and wait for another call back. The staff is very unprofessional and not trained to talk to patient's. My 15yr old could do a better job. 2nd: The portal needs some major updating, it's not the best to locate your information and the NP and PA'S obviously dont know how to add medical records from your visit bc I have checked the last two times and there is nothing added. 3rd: Had a shave biopsy 6 mo ago, no after care instructions. Took literally 3 months to heal, no joke. Never received a call with my results, they were loaded onto the portal and educated myself thru co-pilot. 4th: Thought I would give a 2nd chance and tried another PA. I 1st had a NP...terrible experience. Tried a PA-C this last time and I cannot belive the NP's and PA's do not have to be followed up by the Doctor. I have been to another Dermatologist in the area and the Doctor still oversees the PA or NPs. I feel like any type of procedure should only be done by a Doctor. I dont feel comfortable knowing the PA injects me then had the MA add more numbing. That should all be handled by the PAC. I received no aftercare instructions for my sutures or antibotic salve samples. Praying I dont get an infection as there were no instructions given by the staff. I feel the NP's and PA's need more knowledge and training in what they are doing. There is a reason why the other Dermatologist nearby is booked out to August. The dermatologist at Derick Dermatology would only give refills under the condition that I saw an expensive specialist who would "cure" my uncurable disease. They most likely get a hefty commission from these referrals. Do not trust anyone who refers you to someone else the first time they meet you (especially if that person is expensive). Needless to say I was 17 minutes late and was informed by their receptionist that I was too late and missed their 15 appointment rule. Not so nice should I say. I went to this place not knowing what was causing my skin rash for months. I was examined by one of the dermatologist. She looked at my skin from head to toe using a magnifier , yet she failed to realized that the cause of the rash was scabies. I had scabs all over and all signs of scabies . The only thing this dermatologist did was do a biopsy on a small pimple that I had on my leg. Later on I was told this is benign but an operation was recommended. It's a total money making strategy. The dermatologist should have realized the real issue and addressed it seeing so many signs and symptoms. Total waste of money and my time. Never going back there EVER read more

This was my second visit to this office for annual dermatology exam. I had skin irritation that would not go away for a month. PA in this office determined that he would not conduct annual exam but rather check for skin condition. It was determined I have severe allergy and I was prescribed medication and follow up checkup in 6 weeks to see if condition cleared. They prescribed me 1lb tub of steroid cream to apply on my skin any time itch appears. It seems that these people do not give a damn that I commute to my employment by public transportation every day (1.5 hr one way train ride from suburbs to downtown). They told me that since I am not "contageous" I can go to work and apply the cram throughout the day any time itch happens. So now I have to carry 1lb tub of cream and figure out when and how to apply it on the skin in a public restroom at work with winter clothes layered! Not to mention that if the itch is on hard to reach area I cannot ask for any help from anyone to help me apply it on that area. I am afraid that people at work will have to deal with my obnoxious behavior because this office would not allow me any medical relief until this unbearable condition is fully resolved. If you give them bad review on their own portal, office manager will make a "follow up call" and if you are trying to return the call she will make herself unavailable so you got to leave a message. Why on earth would I leave a message to her, when I explained in my online review ) which was negative all around (for all three people I interacted with in that office) on their portal all the things that were wrong with this appointment: 1. Receptionist was utterly miserable and unpleasant 2. Physician's assistant prescribed 1lb of cream that I am to carry at work for 6 weeks and apply on my skin any time I have an itch. 3. Of course they want me to come for a follow up visit in 6 weeks so they can bill for additional visit for general annual exam. 4. Office manager is unavailable to actually remedy the situation. The follow up call is a fake attempt in customer service. Moral of the story is: It is time to find another dermatology office where staff is actually understandable and compassionate and will make reasonable accommodations for the medical conditions patients are experiencing. This is a highly unethical and unprofessional clinic. The physician who oversees this office should be ashamed of herself. She pays for unskilled medical assistants to act as anesthesiologists, and PA's to conduct surgeries. Their office manager Morgan Richards saw me unable to stand up after what was supposed to be a routine cystectomy and she proceeded to blame me for their negligence of not supervising their medical assistant who injected me with 6 syringes of lidocaine. Non board certified and unlicensed anybodies are allowed access to medical patients here. And before Jason N the "bot Business Manager" asks me to call, I have already done so with NO resolution after the $25,000 plus medical bills that have incurred from an ER visit and several cardiac assessments AFTER the procedure that they conducted on me, due to their medical negligence/malpractice of overmedicating me. Greetings to all, Some of us in life experience the news of being told you have a major health issue. I am experiencing this at this time however my outcome was extremely positive. I was told I was cancer free from a skin growth in front of my forehead, the existence is GONE. When all this began, I was immediately reminded of my mother experiencing the same kind of cancer experience, a spot on the forehead that was threatening her. What made this health event easier were the providers at Derick Dermatology Lindenhurst. Unlike other or a large number of providers Derick Dermatology treats you like they have personally experienced the same health issue and truly respect your feelings and uneasiness. Unfortunately, when my mother had her medical event, she did not get this kind of service. She became a "case number" by her provider. The personal touch did not occur. One of the most wonderful events about going to Derick Dermatology Lindenhurst is they since my nervousness and calmly chatted with me, laugh at my attempts to show comic relief, while answering my questions with the significant details one would want to ask while showing true empathy and High Competency. The treatments were painful yet kind of funny. The doctor would start out telling me "this is going to hurt", and then would say the next blast is really going to hurt", and the one after that blast the next one is "really really really going to hurt".....anyway you get the message.... she was very correct. And we would laugh together, with me telling her she was Very Accurate in expectations for me. Yet at the same time, she was very calm..... and I became very calm. And most important of all they did their assignment......I am cancer free. In our current society we have lots of complaints about our visit to the doctor. In way Americans have come to expect a more impersonal approach from some doctors and yes, the PCP is now overburdened the of appointments per hour and hurry up, the line is getting longer. However there are many good to great docs helping us along helping us get back to the life we all seek You will never experience this at Derick Dermatology. In fact, you might want to invite the whole staff over for Sunday dinner. Oh one more thing, say thank you to your doc after he/she is done helping you.....and also give thanks to the staff who took care you, fillout your data sheet for you, and check you in. We have great insurance and we still had to pay so much out of pocket, it was ridiculous. My daughter saw 1 medical personnel (not a doctor), but we received 3 EOBs - each one having a different provider name. When my husband called billing to ask about the statements, they could not explain it at all to him. WTH is the bill for $125 for Amy Derrick - just to cover their marketing costs? I saw the doctor in Skokie two times , I asked for a location closer to my house on which was Barrington, the skokie agent who made a the appt made a mistake and gave me an appointment in another location, when I arrived for my appointment in Barrington on January they informed me that it was in another office and that the doctor was not available. they committed the mistake and they want me to pay the visit. My second appointment in this location was for February 10, I called because I was stock in the train intersection for 25mint. I called the office to inform they said there was no problem, I arrived 11minutes late for my appointment and the two receptionists were very rude , unprofessional and with CERO empathy. That being said their providers are wonderful and have multiple locations which is helpful when you work full time. I may try them again since I have new insurance. While their medical services are great, I would NEVER again use their pharmacy. I had a prescription refilled there and when I got home noticed the physical pill was different. I left multiple message ( because no one would answer the phone). I never received a call back. They did transfer the prescription to a CVS per my last voice mail 3 days later but 1) never reimbursed me for the wrong pills I purchased 2) never call me back 3) never acknowledged they made a mistake 4) never apologized. Then just last week I called to get my daughters prescription transferred to a pharmacy near her college. Again, didn't answer the phone, didn't return my message nor did they transfer the prescription. I came for my usual check up and agreed to remove few lesions knowing that there is one price for removing few of them. I ended up with the bill for almost $800 because the lesions were coded differently even though the lab confirmed they were the same. I think it is a scam: we - patients have no control over coding and billing and medical personnel knows that and uses that. I would suggest to the patients to ask a lot of questions before you start a procedure and request an estimates from your insurance first. read more

I should always go with my gut as a mother. my 9 year old daughter has been dealing with what was always classified as "acne" for over 3 years. (See pictures) 7 year olds don't get acne. at first I tried talking to my pediatrician about it, and he insisted I try a couple of creams. Which by the way insurance NEVER covers because they consider it cosmetic. I've spent thousands over the years. After giving those a try for about a year with very minimal improvement, he suggested I go see a dermatologist. I decided to go with Derrik dermatology based on multiple reviews. I brought in the list of medications on our first appointment, and I had all the pictures prepared to show the doctor multiple stages of "bad" her skin has gotten. Dr Hensley seemed very nice, but within just a few minutes of looking at my daughter and barely glancing at the photos, she decided to prescribe her some medications along with a soap. I was slightly disappointed, thinking that she would maybe give her a steroid cream, maybe even do some thing a little bit more investigative, she noticed the look of disappointment on my face and wasn't very happy asking why I wasn't happy. I just expressed how it's getting a little frustrating, but i let it go. I figured it's the first visit. Maybe she doesn't want to be too aggressive. I'll give it a chance. She told her to use 2 different creams and a soap and she must do all of this twice a day. I made her a cute little calendar for her skin routine. She's 9, let's see if she can do this. Fast forward multiple follow up visits later I will say that there was tiny improvement, but if she skipped one dose or treatment, it would flare up even worse, it would get bigger and spread to the inside of her nose, and would take double time to get rid of it. She is 9 years old. She doesn't have the patience, no matter how much I beg her, to use the soap and three different creams once in the morning and once at night. Some adults can't even keep up that routine. She would come home crying, saying what's the point of using the medication kids are making fun of her. She would always ask me if she could cover it up with some make up, and at one point she just told me she thinks she's ugly, and she will be ugly for the rest of her life. Finally, I had had enough. we were supposed to have a follow up, but I canceled that follow up and made an appointment with a different dermatologist. From the first five minutes he looked at my daughters face and said "This is not acne, this is eczema that is infected". He prescribed her a face and body wash and changed a cream for her and didn't even ask us to schedule a follow up visit because he was certain it would work. Within two days, her face was 100% clear without using multiple medications multiple times a day. I can not believe I wasted all this time, putting faith in this place thinking it was going to help. I felt like she was so condescending to me when speaking to me or when I gave my thoughts or had questions. when the new dermatologist knew we were going to Derrick Dermatology he rolled his eyes and said "it's just a business to them". I had several appointments at Derick Dermatology at 2 different locations. every time they ask if I have new insurance and I provide them the appropriate paperwork. I received a bill from service done almost 2 years ago. When I called to ask about it they said that the wrong insurance was billed. then because they waited so long to bill the correct insurance the insurance company denied the claim so now I either have to pay or file an appeal with insurance I had 2 years ago. I highly recommend staying far away from these people. they didn't even take care of the issue I had and just had me coming in for more and more visits. derick Dermatology is the worst! read more

My Boy friend Frank went to a North shore dermatologist for a spot on his face that looked to be pre-cancerous they spent little to no time with him and we were both disappointed. I had heard rave reviews about a PA Sophia Chen @ Derick Dermatology we called and he was able to get right in. Sophia spent time explaining what needed to be done, the cream he was to use and a follow up appointment. It was a miracle his face looks 10 years younger the spots are undetectable. Our family of six has been going to Derick Dermatology for many, many years. I remember when our primary care physician of nearly 40 years told us about a wonderful young doc who graduated from Notre Dame who started her own practice in Barrington. We started going to them for annual skin check on all six members of our family and had been very happy until the past couple of years. To say that we have kept them busy is an understatement! We have 4 of the 6 of us with very fair freckled skin and my husband has had to have Mohs surgery (referred out) and regularly has to have moles burned off his skin/biopsied. However lately it seems that every time we have an appointment coming up the office calls and says that they have to cancel/reschedule it. Recently my 18 year old son got bad pathology results from a mole that was removed on his back. The mole had changed on the cellular level and from what I was told was categorized as "being between abnormal and melanoma". Now they can't get him in for several months for and appointment for further excision that it needs because all of the margins weren't clean. The practice has grown SO MUCH that they are having trouble booking their existing patients. (Maybe unless you need botox or restylane?!) Derick Dermatology now has more than 18 locations in the Chicago area and yet only 4 physicians/PA's that do "excisions"!! This might tell you where the money is being spent AND where Amy Derick's priorities lie! If I were looking for a dermatologist to conduct cancer screenings, I. would. NOT. go. to. this. practice! They have lost their moral compass for true dermatological patient care and I believe thereby putting patients and their very lives at risk. We will be moving all six of us to a different practice. 3 reasons why not to choose this office. 1. There's no one to speak to when you have an issue, it's a corporate company with over 15 locations so they don't care about their patients at all. 2. They have almost 0 availability and if you have something serious, such as a mole that needs to be removed, they provide you an option 3-4 months as the first available time. 3. Customer service, there is none, the people on the phone either don't call you back, you sit on hold just to make a follow-up appointment for over an hour or tell you there's no options for a sooner appointment. I arrived for a 7am appointment at 6:55 and the office was not yet open; no one at the front desk, blinds being opened, etc. 2 people that arrived after I did were seen first, then it was our turn, and after sitting in the office for another 10 minutes (now 30 minutes after our scheduled appointment) I was told that I needed to reschedule because we needed a form from an allergist, something our doctor told us could be avoided with a signed waiver. I took a day off of work, fasted, waited 30 minutes to be sent home and told that a 5:45pm appointment was available the following day, so I guess I am supposed to fast again? Anyone looking for a dermatologist should check out Pinnacle Dermatology in Barrington. Derick Dermatology started in Barrington, and it used to be wonderful, but it has gone downhill in the last several years. They aren't the only game in town anymore, so I hope they work to improve their service. read more

I would highly recommend finding another practice for any dermatology needs. Derek dermatology in my opinion barely passes the threshold of being a professional provider. Their doctors rush you through the entire visit don't ask any questions and immediately conclude to just writing out extremely strong prescriptions that in my case were very damaging to me and turns out not even necessary. Additionally the staff there has violated my HIPAA privacy twice in a row, first time I called I complained the issue to their privacy officer, second time I had to report them to DHHS as they were not taking my complaints in their easy to access locations. read more

I saw Dr. Park at the Oak Park location and it was a wonderful experience. I was there for a skin cancer check because of some spots I was worried about so I was quite nervous. Everyone was so kind. I had gone in to deal with creases on my upper lip. I had thought I had Botox previously, but the clinician, Lisa, told me that I had gotten filler, but there wasn't time for me to get filler that day. We talked about how Botox would work on the area prior to treatment and I specifically asked if it would prevent me from puckering my lips. I was told NO, it wouldn't. Well, here I am and can't drink out of a straw or put on chapstick and rub my lips together (not a pucker). I feel like I went to the dentist and still have Novocain wearing off. When I complained she claimed she did tell me, but I know this wasn't true because I was hesitant to get Botox along my upper lip in the first place. I felt like my complaints and concerns were dismissed. It wasn't cheap and I'm very disappointed. Now I get to wait 6-8 weeks for it to wear off and it was all for nothing. read more

They act professional and fancy but they are actually professional and fancy crooks! They will do your procedure with out any guarantee and want you to come back as many times as possible even tho if there is no any results and charge you every time top dollars for their "fancy professional work"! Always had a great experience with Derick Derm. Dr Simon, Dr Campbell and PA Lauren have all been outstanding. They've identified several SCCs and had the treated promptly. Check in has been great, facilities are fantastic, care is thorough and compassionate, never an issue with insurance or billing and they have been extremely accommodating with scheduling.
