My second time in Italy on my layover for work and I have to say I loved Catania so much! I would have to say it's TOP 2 with my favorite layovers. The hotel was located literally in the heart of downtown. The people were so friendly and you just really feel a vibe here. The hotel has an amazing rooftop bar/restaurant with breathtaking views ! The gym was also located with beautiful wide windows of the whole city. I loved this place so much I LITERALLY CANT WAIT TO GO BACK ON A LAYOVER! I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend booking this hotel if you want the greatest experience in Sicily!

We stayed here as a part of a cruise pre-cruise package. I would have made this a three star review had it not been for the unbelievable seafood served in the restaurant and for the level of quiet in the rooms. The hotel was 100% full, but you would never know it. The dish of salmon with artichokes was just divine. Overall, the room has several quirks we weren't prepared for related to the air conditioning. There is a governor (min temp) controlled by the front desk at 27 Celsius. Go and ask them to lower that threshold. Also, the AC will not turn on if the window is not closed all the way. We must've gotten the one with the window where you have to hold your face just right in order to get it closed. The electric was able to adapt to my converter no problem, but the button placements and functions were sometimes baffling. The one extension you would use next to the nightstand is 12 inches above the table so your cords look like a mess using it. Again, this hotel has its quirks but I'm a fan of the restaurant and the quiet room.

This is judged by the standards of a hotel in a historic building in an Italian town and it comes out as a very good one (this is not a five-star hotel, so one should not expect absolute perfection here). During our stay, the central AC system was broken, I think this was a fluke and do not count it against the score. Good things: staff is very helpful, breakfast buffet is excellent, as is the Etnea Roof Garden restaurant on the 7th floor with gorgeous views of the city and a truly excellent chef (this is arguably the best place in town). The rooms are very clean and in great shape. The location is on the main street that is well-maintained and feels pretty safe. The main city attractions (there are not too many in the Catania proper) are extremely close. The size and layout is a expected in a historic budling (not large, but perfectly adequate for two people. Bed is great, room had a sizable balcony (note that there are practically no views at the floors with the rooms). Minor note (as said, I do not expect this amenity at a 4-star European hotel): there are no 100V (US) sockets (hint to the owners: one in the bathroom would be nice, as many US dental machines do not take 220V) . Overall: will stay again.

This hotel is decent by Italian standards. It's really a poor hotel with low standards. You cannot even control your air conditioner.

The wine was good-- as no one in our group is an expert at Sicilian wine, we went with their recommendations. (please note that they didn't have a house wine like many other places in Sicily.) For the most part, everyone had whatever the specials of the day were (lots of different fish. This place was primarily a seafood restaurant) I got a shrimp and pistachio pasta dish that was unique and delicious. I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested. I gave it four stars because it wasn't the best meal in Catania, but it was still an excellent dinner. It was annoying that people were on the streets trying to pull you into the restaurant, but people do that worldwide, so it must work. However, I would not go out of my way to eat here. It is a good option if you are staying within a few blocks and want a meal without much fuss. This is a great option.

The day before he had told me not to eat much during the day - and he was so right. We had an awesome antipasti di mare with many many courses (to be eaten in sequence because they started with subtle flavored fish and clams and built up to culminate in an intense fresh skinless fried sardines. (I don't know if this was special treatment because my friend knew the owner. But it was quite amazing.) Primi piatti has a lot of different simple but good tasting pasta. We had Cannolicchi - a long flat shell with thick tube-like creature in it. Very good. On my first time, we didn't have any room for the secondi. There can be complimentary flourless chocolate cake and variety of after dinner digestivo - like in local neighborhood Italian restaurants. Ability to speak Italian is a must, but I got by with the menu (available also in English and translated nearly word for word) and nouns, prepositions, and gestures (but of course they were more tolerant of me, and some servers can speak a little bit of English - but not the owners). I went there another day. Had Spaghetti alla Norma (always with eggplant) - simple and good. The secondi is mostly grilled seafood unless you like seafood agridolce. Grilled seafood is simply done but good and quite a bit for the price. Prices are significantly lower compared to touristy restaurants. Reservations are a must. I am generally a tough critic....

Everyone talked about how to order to get the right temperature you want. I found that a bit off putting. Also the utensils aren't the best for cutting thick cut steaks. I may go back but it did not live up to the hype for me. If a place is named The Steakhouse, it has to deliver.
