Horrible, horrible company!!! Ordered some Asian Family plum sauce and was sent a completely different product from what was imaged on their website. When I enquired, I was told it was not their responsibility if the supplier sends them different products, that they have over 5000 items and cannot possibly keep track if the supplier sends something other than what they ordered. I said I did not want this product that I had paid $35 plus $20 in shipping and they advised that I could return it but would have to cover the cost of returning the products myself. I live in Ontario and they shipped from their Alberta location. /beyond that 2 of the bottles had been damaged in transit - or packed and shipped already damaged - and the sauce was leaked inside the shipping box. When I sent a photo of the item from their website and a photo of the product I received, they told me it was the same thing!! I see positive reviews from people who were in Lethbridge and shopped in their physical store so I actually believe they purposefully scam online shoppers and then refuse any responsibility. They should be fined and shut down for unlawful business practices!!! read more

Horrible customer service. I placed a large online order, only to receive a poorly packed box with damaged and expired items. When I called to complain, I was told I would be refunded. Later, when following up by email, they refused to refund and told me there is nothing wrong with selling expired food. When I told them I would have to make a report with my credit card company, they told me I that was threatening. I would think stealing your customers money is far more threatening behaviour. I would recommend that everyone submit reports to the Canada Food Inspection Agency. They will close the business down if enough people report the selling of expired goods. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. THEY ARE SCAMMERS. I've been trying to get Hakumaku Japanese noodles for my children as they are made in Australia with no salt. I found them on Umami online shop, ordered them, and even paid $20 for shipping. What they sent me, however, was from completely different brand called Aassi, made in China with a ton of salt. They instead printed a label sticker with Hakumku on it, hoping that the customers would think it is Hakumaku. I called the store, the staff claimed that they are the exactly same products with different packaging. I told her that they are the different brands; one from Australia, the other from China, and all the ingredients are completely different most importantly. She just tried to get her way out by fooling the customer thinking that I'm so stupid that I would believe her non sense lies. If she apologised and admitted her mistakes, I wouldn't have been this upset. Yet there was no guidance on the return policy as she needed to check with her manager. I sent two emails later but still received no reply whatsoever. THIS STORE DOES NOT DESERVE EVEN ONE STAR. Do not order from this store as you would not know what you will get eventually from them. We went into the store to buy a few things and tried to use a $100 gift certificate while being served by the owner. She told us that they have changed the type of gift certificates they use now so we were required to spend the full $100 in this transaction. The items we wanted to purchase were $25 but the only option was to buy $75 more. She would not exchange our gift certificate for the new type. In addition, when we got home we realized that the one item ($20 value) that she grabbed for us off the shelf had an expiry date of September 2023. Is there not a rule or about selling expired food? We won't be trying to return this item as we are pretty certain that we will be faced with her rude behavior as we were today. We will not be going back to this store for anything and we will be recommending to our friends and family that they do not support this business either. read more

Great little spot to hit in lethbridge! Unique international groceries, asian deli, & amazing Vietnamese subs. They offer a ton of vegetarian and vegan options which are all delicious. They are very accommodating with their menu & will do half orders of subs! *DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT* ***Found a piece of glass baked into our veggie pancakes*** We ordered a starter of veggie pancakes and 2 meals. If you want a cup of tap water with your meal, they direct you to a tall table where they keep jugs of water with metal drinking cups. There were 2 women eating a table right beside it and it felt awkward to get behind them to grab the water and cups. I also personally don't like that the water is accessible to anyone in that seating area. When our 3 food items were brought out, the employee told us she forgot to charge for our starter (veggie pancakes) and would like us to come pay when we finished our meal. You pay for everything in advance. During the last bite of the veggie pancakes, I bit into something hard. I spat out the food and fished around with my fingers to figure out what hurt so bad. It was a small white piece of glass. My husband had already gone up to pay for the pancakes by this point. I took the piece up to show the staff and they kept saying "oh it's probably a stone from the planter on your table". She went to compare the piece of glass to the stone and no, they weren't the same. I had to tell her a few times that this object was baked into my pancakes. It didn't roll off the planter of rocks onto my plant. She kept looking for excuses of how it rolled onto my pancakes once I started eating it. I imagine when they made these pancakes, something broke into the food and was baked there. I don't imagine they prepared it fresh for us when we ordered it. It was most likely frozen and heated up when we ordered. The staff experience was awful from this point. She kept saying she was sorry, but her face didn't show any sort of remorse for what I almost ate. She would then say, "what do you expect me to do?" Eventually she did give me money from their tip jar for the cost of the veggie pancakes. Here's a word of advice to the store. When a customer has an issue like this with their food, don't get so defensive. Do your best to make something awful into a good experience. Your employee was so rude and when she gave me the money, she got angry. I should be the one that's angry!! Worst experience ever. I don't plan on ever buying anything from UMAMI again. First time eating here as the usual place I use was not open. I ordered a wonton soup to go. The description said "popular soup with organic vegetables and plump wontons". The wontons were ok and I am glad the veg is organic, but they barely make the plural for "vegetables" there were literally 3 beans, 2-3 pieces of grated carrot, a pinch of green onion and a piece of dried up old carrot skin Pictured). The price was extremely overinflated for what it was, I paid $16.75 for it and to be honest, apart from the slick of sesame oil on the top it was all but completely tastless. Umaminously recommended ;-0 I was in meetings at Lethbridge City Hall and found Umami across the street at lunch. There is a deli, and they also prepare hot meals in minutes. I has a ginger beef pasta which was stir fried. It was fresh and delicious, and was just $12. Tried it a second time. Had a satay chicken vietnamese toasted sub, which with bottled water was $10. The flavours were fresh and just popped. I would definitely recommend it. If you are tired of the same old same old then give Umami a try. read more

This should be a little gem of a place. Asian deli, Vietnamese sub counter, coffee shop and international groceries offer a unique one-stop shop. However the service of the front cashier - who doubles as deli waitress - was frosty, lazy and unhelpful. My freind and I both enjoyed our pork wonton soup. We noted the toasty sesame oil flavouring the broth and sparks of ginger in the wonton filling. Too bad about the service. read more

I go there for lunch often. The Vegan Vietnamese sub is amazing as is their Panang curry. Their grocery store is the perfect place to find all of the items that you wouldn't find at the typical Safeway ex: Ghost Salt or Indian Ketchup. I highly recommend it. read more

I got misdirected looking for a TD bank, stumbled (like actually stumbled) in here nauseous looking for ginger chews and they had about 10 types of ginger chews, soft drinks from around the world and loads of international salty snacks! The restaurant section has some delicious meals although the number of items on the menu is limited. The staff are engaging, courteous and knowledgable. I didn't really get to browse the products or selection, and I suppose I never will get the chance since I won't be back again. I'd reached into my purse a couple times to check the time for the parking meter, pulling out my phone each time. I can only guess this is what apparently signaled me as a rampant thief of noodles and canned goods. I didn't notice my mother and I were being followed by an employee up until maybe the fourth or fifth time the employee scared the wits out of me by popping up from behind a shelf and asking, "Did you find anything yet?" after I'd repeatedly told her I was just browsing. A while later, I saw another employee following me and staring at me from the end of each aisle. As we were leaving, my mother confronted the first employee about her treatment of customers, telling her we'd throw our purses at her feet to rifle through if it would make her happy, we were told something along the lines of "It's our store and we can do what we want." This is the rudest and most disgusting behavior I've ever experienced as a customer, and the time we'd been planning to spend having lunch in such a pleasant-looking store will be better used to warn others of this place! read more
