Dr. Starck previously performed an emergency corneal transplant which saved my son's eye. He is currently being treated for glaucoma. We were fortunate to find Dr. Starck. He has the skills, training and experience to treat complicated eye problems. He also performed bilateral lens replacement. After 15+ years I'm done with this Ultravision. The only thing they seem to be really good at is bait & switch and billing. They tell you your copay when you walk in but by the time you walk out they tack on charges for things you didn't consent to and were never made aware of until they stick you with the bill. On another note, it's 30° outside, turn on your heater. Your employees and clients shouldn't be wearing coats to avoid hypothermia. Come on Dr Starck, do better!! read more

I am seriously sad to give such a low review, and I have to give context. I had PRK(lasik) done in 2016 with Dr. Stark. He is amazing and I highly recommend him for vision correction. On my last three yearly checkups I've had major problems. after Stark does the lasik you literally never see him again. for you required yearly checkups after the surgery you see which ever eye doc in the office is available. two years ago I saw Dr. Dao after having some strange vision disturbances in my right eye. he found a small hole in my retina. Rather than referring me to a specialist he just told me it looked stable and that if I had any more weird disturbances to come in. I saw him again the following year and he said the same thing. this year I went in and saw Dr. Harrison who looked at me shocked that I had not been referred to a retina specialist and proceeded to refer me. At the specialist I found out that not only did I have a hole but many holes in my retina and two detachments requiring a laser procedure to save my vision and a potentially invasive surgery in the future if my eye continues to deteriorate. Dr. Dao is lucky I don't sue him for not doing so simple a thing as referring me to a retina specialist. on a side note, the office staff there is pretty terrible. never charge me the right amount and end up trying to rudely collect from me after the fact, as well as insanely long wait times. Please. Do. Better. I will recommend Dr. Harrison though. He was great. read more

If I could give them a zero I would! I called them for information and ask if they accepted my insurance, Humana, I gave them all information and was told they accepted it ,I ask if they were in network and they said yes. When I went to my appointment days later, they logged me in and ask for my insurance card and ID which I gave. My eyes were examined and I went to pay. I had looked up my insurance co pay and it was $30. They told me I owed $110. They also told me that I owed an extra $45 that insurance did not cover, which they had not informed me of this. I told them the above information and they would not do any adjustments. I then received a message regarding payment from the billing department. We messaged back and forth and then had 2 telephone conversation and the girl I talked to was going to talk to her manager and get back to me. When I called back I was told they would do nothing to adjust this bill. They had days to research and notify me of any extra charges and not being in network. I feel like I am being scammed and would tell anyone to beware of this company. I am 76 years old and live on a very fixed budget and this was not easy for me to pay. Highly frustrating experience with their billing department - I went in for a scheduled routine eye exam during which the optometrist mentioned no concerns aside from that I probably had dry eyes (don't we all.) No eye drops/prescriptions/other recommendations were given. The visit was billed as a medical visit instead of a vision exam meaning it was not covered by my vision insurance. When I asked the billing office if this could be discussed with the optometrist or my concerns addressed to him they were very dismissive and said the only way to do this would be to schedule another appointment (and be billed for it.) I've been having my yearly eye exams at the Ultra Vision office in Eagle Pass, Texas and I love it. Just recently, I made the decision to finally get Lasik and I knew that the only doctor that I would trust for that would be Dr. Tomy Starck. I went in for a post operation appointment on Tuesday February 9th, and got my Lasik scheduled for the following day! I am currently at my one day post operation appointment and let's just say that I am seeing better now than I did when I was using contacts! This is the first time that I am able to see without the use of contacts or glasses in 11 years! And the billing portion of all this was so easy! I can't express how thankful I am to Dr. Tomy Starck and all of the employees at both Ultra Vision locations for making this such a fast, easy, and most importantly PAIN FREE experience. A waste of time. I wanted a pair of prescription safety glasses so I chose a pair of Oakley. I paid 325 for them at the Military location. A week later I get a call from UltraVision saying that I would have to pay an additional $600 because they made a mistake, their lab can't do it, and they have to send it directly to Oakley. I said well that's not my problem but ok. "What can you do for me?" Let's work it out. They said for me to go to the Dominion location and pick out a different frame unless I want to pay an additional $600 for their mistake. So I go to their other location and all I got was the run around. All I kept hearing was we can't. Not allowed. Nothing positive. All negative remarks. They wanted to pick out the frames for me. I tell them I don't want cheap frames or glasses. In the end I was disappointed and asked for a refund. I just got tired of hearing negativity. I will find someone who CAN do it. My experience has been a whirlwind. I literally went from torn corneas to LASIK in 2 weeks. Went to see Dr. Starck on 12 Feb for a corneal abrasion; my reg eye doctor wanted a specialist to look at it since it had recurred. Had to wait approx 2 hours to see Dr. Starck, but I was being "worked in" same day. He asked why I hadn't had LASIK- and the truth was I had always wanted it but couldn't get my regular optometrist back home to give me a good answer when I inquired about it. He informed me he could do it as early as 2 weeks- time for my eye to heal and return to normal from my contacts. He also told me my eyes would most likely have issues from contacts on out (due to my over wearing). Scheduled surgery for 27 Feb. Worst part was the anxiety- the actual surgery was a breeze. I can see better now (4 days Post op) than I have in 28 years. The quality of care from Dr. Starck has been outstanding- he is very through and knowledgeable. So yes, you wait forever but the eye care is totally worth it. TL;DR Long wait times but quality of care from Dr. Starck is stellar. read more

I went to UltraVision for an annual check up on my eyes. While the technician started the preliminaries, she stated that my eyes were not in good shape. She said they were red, veiny, and irritated. I had not been wearing contacts for weeks and my eyes felt good and were clear so I was quite confused with her remarks. She proceeded to say that due to the amount of scars on my eyes that it could affect the cornea and when it continues to progress, I would not be a candidate for lasik eye surgery and that I should do it as soon as possible. She made it seem like this was something that was very urgent and needed to be done ASAP. She told me I should not sit on it and that someone would consult with me. She also said I should no longer wear contacts. I should get the lasik surgery or wear glasses. Needless to say, I was very concerned. Once the technician dilated my eyes, she asked me to wait in the waiting room. Within minutes of sitting down, a women, by the name of Kendra, approached me and started consulting with me about the lasik surgery and the cost. She also told me that my eyes are in bad shape and that I should not be wearing contacts. At this point, I was feeling very stressed and concerned. In fact, I was ready to go ahead and pay the $4,000 and schedule the appointment. Then, I met with the Dr. Hyatt, who also recommended lasik surgery. Her demeanor was a little more calm, however, when I asked her is this something that I need to do now or can I wait on this for another year, her response was, "I don't have a crystal ball, I cannot tell you what your eyes will look like in a year from now". I still had several other questions for her and wanted to write it down and discuss the pros and cons. I asked her for a pen, she gave me one. However, it was clear that she was trying to rush things. She asked me to go outside of the room and sit down to wait for someone to order the contacts I had requested and she left. After leaving the office, a family member suggested that I get a second opinion. On the same day, I was able to schedule to see an Ophthalmologist, he checked my eyes and simply said "I don't see anything wrong with your eyes." Yes, I have scarring on the eyes due to previous infections, however, he did not see any veins or irritation in the eyes. There was nothing that is severe enough to where I needed to proceed with the lasik surgery as soon as possible. He stated, do it when you are ready. UltraVision stated that my eyes were severe. As the result, I left feeling overwhelmed and stressed. I also felt I was being pushed to do lasik surgery. We called and spoke to the office manager about my experience, Kendra stated that the notes state I had contact overuse and was not wearing my contacts properly. This information was not up to date. I had not been wearing my contacts in weeks so this does not make sense. As a matter of fact, I wear my glasses much more that I wear contacts now. Kendra stated that lasik is not necessary, just an option. Then why did both the technician, director operations, and Dr. Hyatt push lasik so hard? It makes me wonder if there is a certain quota that Ultra Vision is trying to meet. As a result, my family and I no longer trust Ultra Vision and we will not be going back. read more

WORST experience as a patient EVER. If there was a way to apply "0" stars I would!!!! I called and made my new patient routine eye exam appt after seeing this doctors name on my insurance provider list. I was mailed the new patient forms ahead of my appointment, which I thought was great and a time saver. I have a 9 month old that usually goes to all my appointments so I figured doing the paperwork ahead of time would save me so wait time during appointment check in. How wrong was I!!! Thankfully my husband was able to come home and watch our daughter since she was sick. If I had to bring her to this shitty office I would have been beyond livid. I arrived 15 minutes ahead of my scheduled time out of respect with my paperwork completed in full. (Mind you I drove 30 minutes to this office based on the reviews I had gotten, I will drive for great customer service and care) The girls at the desk took all my information and I went to have a seat to wait. I have worked in the medical field for 15 years and I understand there is usually a wait but I was NOT expecting it to exceed 15 mins to at least be called back to begin the appointment. I waited 40 mins PAST my appointment and there were still many patients ahead of me that we're still sitting waiting. I went back to the front desk, collected my IDs and paperwork and left. I am filing a complaint with my insurance carrier, and I feel compelled to take to social media to warn future patients. Many times eye care insurance coverage is minimal or not available. I feel like this office should treat their patients with a little more respect. This office felt like a disorganized assembly line. There were too many patients than what the practice could keep up with. I want a doctor that will take their time in my treatments and value my time as much as theirs. They need to know that you can throw a quarter and find another doctor to meet your needs. And that's exactly what I did. I sat in their parking lot and made another appointment with a different doctor and a entirely different location. I would wait a while to visit this doctor if you are shopping around...I think they need to get their act together first. So disappointed!!!!! read more

Then they charged my insurance for a cataract consultation. My insurance wouldn't pay as it's a medical code. However they only did an eye exam. I took my 12 year old and my husband for our annual eye exam at this clinic. We were pleasantly surprised with the service and the doctor, who was very attentive and patient. More importantly, there was not a long wait to be seen. We used our "eyemed" insurance and only paid $10.00 for the exam. Went in for a consultation on June 12 and on July 3 had my surgery! They were able to get me in so quickly and seamlessly I was inspired to get the surgery as soon as possible. Lettie was great in helping me understand the process and walk me through the pre-op appointment. She and Dr. Stark talked to me the whole time during the surgery, which really helped calm me when I was anxious. Staff is nice but unprofessional operation. Arrived on time for a routine eye exam. 40 minutes later was called back. Worked with a nurse who seemed like I was the first patient she had ever seen, constantly had to leave the room to ask questions and she didn't turn the lights off during eye exam. Other nurses would periodically come in ask her questions about other patients. Took over 2 hours to see the actual doctor, Dr. Hyatt. I seriously considered walking out during the appointment. Doctor seemed fine but not worth the wait. I will not go back and advise you to stay away. read more

I wish to recant a previous review using their link where I provided a decent review as the followup was a DISASTER. Post refraction, I was told that I was overpowered with my previous prescription. I was angry that I had gone a whole year with a less than optimum prescription from an Ultravision optometrist but was happy that I would get the correction I needed. I ordered glasses from their optical boutique and I ordered the best of the best- High Index, Varilux Physio Enhanced Fit, Cryzal Tier II anti-glare, Transitions, etc but when my glasses finally arrived and I put them on-OMG...BLURRY, everywhere!!!!! This was beyond disappointing, this was downright egregious. I scheduled a re-exam for the next day. Guess what? Even greater disappointment! I could hear the employees bickering among each other and this was not the first time. There was some discord going on my previous visit as well. This is so unprofessional and irresponsible that this alone would be a reason to never return. But wait, it gets better (really worse)! The tech indicates that the measurements of my pupil in relation to the lenses were off and the optometrist confirms. The optician did not measure me appropriately! He also states he spent a lot of time with me so he knows the prescription is right. He then proceeds to tell me that he cannot give me the exact prescription I need due to the way Progressives are made. If he ups the power for my distance, then I will have the same prescription of my current glasses in which he said I was overpowered! So, my choice was to stay with my current glasses (which were not at all good for reading or computer work) or have them re-do the lenses with proper measurements and HOPE that this prescription is better. He then rushes me out to the optician and says they will help me. HE ABANDONED ME! This is the same optometrist that I mistakenly said saved the day in my first review when he said I had been overpowered, which, by the way, was one of THEIR optometrists too! Looking through the lenses they had made for me and adjusting up, down, left, right, I was blurry everywhere. How can I trust a re-do? These glasses were nearly $700. My choices were to roll the dice that this new prescription is right and that they would measure and make the lenses correctly OR, given that I had ZERO confidence in this entire staff, accept a refund for what I had paid. I had to take the refund or risk losing $700. In summary, this was the second year in a row I have gone to Ultravision and walked away disgusted. I basically lost my eye exam insurance for this year and have nothing to show for it. This business is NOT deserving of my trust. I waited a few weeks to see if they would call me to apologize or discuss what happened but that was never going to happen with this outfit. I do not think that there was any malice as most of the staff is very cordial although the waits are ridiculously long and appointments poorly handled. However, one CANNOT dismiss the incompetence and continual disappointment. That is why I will NEVER set foot again inside this business. Enter at your own risk. First I have to say that Dr. Tommy Stark is a very good doctor. Before his move the office was awesome. Since his relocation this practice has become too big impersonal and and the office staff incompetent. I was told that I needed a corrective procedure but there would not be any cost associated with this procedure. A month later I receive a hefty bill. They replied that the doctor made a mistake. I am retired and could not afford this. I would recommend Dr. Stark if had a small office but this new place is very hard to deal with since one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing.
