On May 5th, 2022, I had my Lasik done on both eyes and it's been about 7 months now and I'm back at 20/20 on both eyes and they have taken out my astigmatism as well. I'm very happy that I did this procedure after waiting for 53 years. No more contacts or glasses. I give a two star because the staff is really nice including Dr Manriquez. but after having lasik two years ago and still having issues.. Got both eyes done then the left again the. the right again.. I still can see fine with out glasses. it has been a terrible experience. This procedure is not cheap and to not be able to see a menu or read a book. Not even be able to fill out paperwork at the doctors office. All I'm told is to keep on using the drops and give it time. I'm tired.. I wish Ihar just stuck with my glasses. It was ok while it lasted. if you hav 4k+ to spare for 15 month of good vision, go for it. I had one eye adjusted for reading, and one eye for far vision. I was so happy to finally be able to read without readers. Driving at night was so much better, because traffic and head lights didn't have that overwhelming glare anymore. But now I had to deal with dry eyes, and not being able to identify my son on the soccer field. During every checkup I voiced concern that I expected better. For 12 month I was assured my vision is great and advised to continue using my eye drops. I did. 15 month after the procedure I was back to zooming in on photos and reading on devices . After 18 month I was back to wearing 1.5 readers at ALL times. I called and inquired about the free touch up that was offered. I was told since it's been more than a year, I would have to start over as a new customer. Or I can see another ophthalmologist and see what they can do for me. Ah you were telling me for a whole year that all is fine! Now you're telling me it's too late. My vision is back to being as bad as when I started, plus the dry eyes that I didn't have to deal with before. Just a consultation review: Rude staff / not professional. I went in for a complimentary consultation (great) to be "greeted" at the door and told, "Those are some thick glasses". Never have I received a comment like that from a medical professional. Yes, I have poor vision. I found out that the person who greeted me was the Sales Manager. After my consultation with a nice lady in the back I met with the Sales Manager again who continued to be rude and extremely aggressive. I've had better experiences at car lots. If I could put 0 stars I would... I've been attempting to work with the office since I had surgery last year. I was not a candidate for LASIK which I knew was a possibility due to a condition, so I was led towards the IOL, basically a cataract surgery with a corrective lens IMPLANT(meaning "permanent"). I agreed to the surgery and paid $7500 as that was my credit limit on one card and was told I could pay the remainder on a Care Credit card when the second eye would be done a month later. I had surgery on Oct 4th, I followed ALL the drops instructions and artificial tears. I knew something was off within a few days and later the weeks coming. I came in for my follow ups and voiced my concerns and expressed how my eyesight was not right, that it was still blurry and fuzzy. They scheduled me for a YAG procedure and even put plugs in my eyes claiming it has to be because my eyes are dry that my sight isn't "right". So I expressed that I do use my eye drops like instructed and that it wasn't making a difference. I continued to go to my follow ups and the follow up Dr.'s even noticed that my vision in the surgery eye was still off on my script and was told I could put a contact in that eye. The young lady told me that they would order me the contacts for my surgery eye and also some for the eye that was still waiting for surgery. Weeks went by and I had not heard anything. At one of my follow ups I had asked for my medical records and it took over a month to get them. I had let them know at the follow up that I had looked for a second and even third opinion and was told that I was OVERCORRECTED for an astigmatism that I didn't have, now I have astigmatism because a Toric multifocal lens was used. I even showed the implant card to these eye doctors and they were baffled as to why I was given a lens that wasn't good for my eye and that I need an IOL exchange. I have reached out to Richard on more than one occasion about seeing the doctor to get this resolved and I get the run around or no one contacts me back. At one appointment I was tag teamed by both the young lady and Richard about how seeking another opinion was not really an option, that Dr. Manrique is the "commander" and we all follow the 'commanders" orders. I am no longer in the military and find it extremely unprofessional to try to compare a doctor to a commander to a veteran. I let it slide but I am tired of asking them for a resolution that is not coming. I have asked to speak with Dr. Manrique multiple times and it has not happened yet. I am now seeking a malpractice lawsuit as I am unable to facilitate my business which is doing lash extension. How do I do lash extensions when I now have NO near sight vision because it is blurry. I cannot read clearly either. The ONLY feedback I would get is to do my other eye and "they'll begin to work together". I don't know about others, but if one eye is not correct, why would I let you mess up my only good eye now. I have let others who have asked me about my experience if I would recommend them and it is a HARD NO! Not only because of my poor results(which I was told is within their margin of error), but also because of the unprofessionalism, the condescending, the lack of empathy and respect for the patient, as well as the gaslighting that is done in this clinic. I cannot speak on how they are at LASIK, I can only speak on my Lens replacement. The healing and surgery itself is fine, its the fact that a lens that was NOT correct was ordered, implanted and now isn't working and they do not want to take ANY accountability. It's supposedly "my dry eyes" fault. If that's the case, then why am I having to wear contacts in BOTH eyes again and have such an off script that I cannot work. My wife received treatment here. They are doing some sketchy practices. The treatment itself was good but after, my wife's info was what seems intentionally misspelled or typo on official documents. Her info was spelled correctly on non official documents. A couple weeks go by and it seems as if Manrique vision filed for a credit card on my wife's behalf. We are in the process of filing a dispute with the credit bureau and looking into identity theft. Do your research! There are Lasik providers offering good vision warranties. Ten years ago Manrique himself corrected my vision at the La Cantera location and he did a great job. But over the past 10 years my vision declined. Recently, I received a consultation. Fortunately, the change to my vision was minor and the recommendation was to correct a single eye. The cost would be $1,500. Remember, I am a returning patient. When I heard the cost, I was disappointed. This is because I found a Lasik provider that offers a warranty on the procedure. In this scenario, if I had gone to them intially, this modification, and future ones would cost me nothing. So make sure to ask about coverage of future corrections. I never thought in my life I would never need glasses. It feels like a dream come true. I was born cross eyed and had coke bottle glasses all 31 years of my life with multiple eye surgeries throughout the years. I could not read at all without my glasses not see. I was referred to Dr. Manrique by a dear friend who said I really needed it. My doctor told me I could never do a procedure like this. I went in for my consultation and they were confident they could fix my eyes. Here I am today typing this review with tiny letters my screen, not using glasses! TL:DR - find an experienced small ophthalmology practice where they treat their patients like family, not cattle. I was recommended to go here by another dentist and everywhere I read pointed to the surgeon being the best in the area. That's not what I'm challenging. I can see really well, and he's a trainer for lasers so he is VERY skilled. That's the only thing this office has going for it. Let's start at the beginning. You come in for a "free consultation" - they only do two tests that determine whether you can have Z-lasik. I warned them at this point that I have a large scar on my right eye from trauma so I've always been worried about qualifying. The "money guy" who is not a doc said that it's not a problem, they'll get me taken care of with Lasik. I was obligated to put a $1k of the $4k to continue all the tests that day which I was prepared to pay since he said I'd be getting lasik and I'd done my research on the surgeon before my consultation. Well after more testing and a condescending comment about my scarring, she told me I would definitely need ASA in my right eye instead of Lasik. Then I was whisked back to the money guy before I could get over the shell shock and ask questions. I was terrified to schedule because ASA is a very different surgery and recovery than Lasik. It requires reepithelialization of your cells across your eye and can take months to years to heal to 100%. But even though they changed my treatment plan, I was stuck scheduling with them or losing $1000. I had so many questions about whether I'd still be able to work right away, how doing two different surgeries would affect my vision while healing, etc. And the money guy's response was just "You worry too much, you need to relax and trust us." That's not an appropriate response when you drastically change the treatment plan. Then there was my major phobia. Every new person I met I informed of how phobic I was about touching or getting near my eyes. They all just kept saying that's normal, but mine is not just a normal fear. I visibly shake, sometimes hyperventilate and I can't control my phobia no matter how hard I try to. Yet this info kept not getting passed along. As a dentist, I treat phobic patients everyday and it's very important that we treat them with love and care so they're not made to feel guilty about their phobia and so we can try to rewrite their fear into a good patient-doctor relationship. That brings me to today. The tech that was prepping my eyes didn't know I was phobic so I reminded her and requested that I sit with the Valium long enough to let it take affect, and to please tell Dr. Manrique of my phobia. Neither happened. I was given the pill and sat for maybe 5-8 minutes before a tech took me back. This is where I just couldn't believe how cattle method they were. The previous patient was literally getting off the table from their surgery as I was being brought into the surgery suite. I knew I wasn't fully relaxed, but I figured there'd be time where they set up the laser and chat with me. Nope. As soon as I layed down Dr. M started squirting a bunch of drops in my eyes and I gasped, and started shaking and squirming. He yelled at me and asked if I was going to be able to do the surgery today because I can't move at all. It was terrifying. He was terrifying. I kept my mouth shut and just sat on my hands because I was so afraid. It was the worst 10 minutes of my life. I was shaking when it was over and he's just smiling like "Look you can see, send me all your friends." I turned to him and said "I'm guessing no one told you how eye phobic I am." And he just brushed it off and said that everyone doesn't like their eyes touched. No matter how hard I tried to communicate that I'm not just a normal patient when it comes to eye procedures, they ignored me. It was so obvious that he did not care to get to know me and my fears because I was just another 10 minute cash cow coming through. I was whisked off to another exam room with what I assume was an optometrist and was shaking so hard and crying because of how horrible of an experience the procedure was. No one apologized, no one asked if I was ok. They just gave me post op instructions and pushed us out the door because they needed the room for their next patient. The thing is, I get that this is my issue. I get that it's annoying to have to be patient with people who are phobic. But I would NEVER start a surgery on a patient of mine without them being comfortably sedated. I'm constantly talking to my patients throughout and helping them stay calm and have as good of an experience as possible. This doctor failed on all those accounts and I will NEVER recommend anyone see him. He embodied everything that is wrong with medicine - uncaring, revenue driven, quantity over quality, "trust me I'm the Doctor" service. It's sickening. read more

I've vacillated for about 5 years whether I would have lasik surgery or not. The one thing I didn't vacillate about was who and where I would go to have the surgery. My husband told me about Dr. Manrique and said, "if you're going to have the surgery, this is where you should go." The day of my consultation the Director of Operations, Richard Doinoff told me, "if you have the surgery you will ask yourself why did you wait so long?" He was absolutely correct!!! I asked myself why did I wait so long?!? The results were beyond phenomenal! I had a pretty severe stigmatism and needed glasses to see far away and EVEN close up. The day of the surgery I did exactly as instructed which was sleep for 4-6 hours to aid in the healing process. I went in for a consult in San Antonio from Austin after having had Lasix with Dr. Manrique 18 years ago to correct nearsightedness. Now in my 40's, I had to go and see what they could do for seeing up close. I was glad I asked. I learned the procedure to correct astigmatism is different, but has very effective results. They were able to show me with lenses something that I'm not really qualified to accurately describe here, but essentially they fix one eye for seeing far and one for up close. Dr. Manrique does all the operations himself and given that he's done more than 40,000 that gives me peace of mind. His very nice staff is beyond helpful, even helping with questions after hours and helping with financing. It's been 11 days and I'm already seeing better than I did before. I'm so glad I did it. Terribly terrifying experience. Came in for a "complimentary" eye exam spoke to a person named Alfonso he immediately asked me to sign some papers ( stupid me I did) he told me I would pay $4000 that I could make pmts. At this time I had not even had an eye exam. Unknown to me he had already imputed my SSN # n applied for credit for me and had it approved without telling me this and without my even had an exam. I came back to have an eye exam the next day and was told it would be $7000 I told the person named Alfonso that this would be too much (since I was planning to pay cash and had put aside $4000 for this). He said oh no do not worry your pmts w only be197! I told him I would get back to him. End of that!!!!!$$$$$. Two weeks later I get a statement that I owed $7000 and my pmt was due n if I did not pay in time I would have to pay late fee. I had not scheduled a procedure I had not had a procedure yet I had TO PAY??? I was in shock. Called the credit card company that they had applied for me and was told that too bad this money had already been paid to the Dr and I was responsible for $7000 I have reached out to Manrique eye center and was told oh don't worry we will credit your account as of today I have been told by the credit company that no pmt has been received and Iam still responsible for this!!!!! My formal complaint to the TEXAS MEDICAL BOARD: Dr Carlos Manrique has robbed my Dad's happiness, joy and zest for life for the last 10 years. It breaks my heart what my father has endured. In my personal opinion, he needs to have his license completely revoked and a thorough investigation needs to happen with his entire practice. I can guarantee you on my life that you will find malpractice throughout his files and fraud within his entire operations (to include his employees). About 10 years ago, my dad who lives in Harlingen, TX went to Dr. Manrique for cataract surgery. His life changed forever from that decision. The surgery took place on left eye on 1 day and the following eye the next. Based on my Dad's recollection he relates that he was awake during surgery. During the surgery the Dr. requested from his assistance a tool that was called out by name to continue the procedure. The Dr. requested this tools several times and began raising his voice to his assistant (who had handed him the wrong device). During this small lapse of time my father recalls an uncomfortable nudge/pain in his eye as the Dr. was having the exchange with his assistance. The operation was eventually completed on the left eye and my dad sent home with medications, etc. and was scheduled for the right eye the following day. When my dad went in for surgery the following day...he could not see at all in his left eye. He was given medication to reduce swelling and they proceeded to perform surgery on the right eye. My dad continue to have issues with his left eye and was told by the doctor that the lens was not completely centered within his eye but within parameters. Over the next 10 years Dr Manrique performed another 9+ surgeries on my dad's left eye to deal with the pressure buildup and pain my father was feeling. For the next 10 years my dad has been in pain and never able to see well out of this eye. He continued to endure the surgery, pain/suffering and worry of what went awry on this horrific day. More recently my father had two episodes of going blind in this eye. This motivated him to get a 2nd opinion by eye doctor who my mother sees in San Antonio, TX (Dr. Tomy Stark). This is when the entire picture of what was happening became clear. The lens that was placed in my fathers eye should have been removed immediately (multi focus lens), with a single lens. The lens that was originally placed was done incorrect with a known abrasion on the shelf that supports it. This cut was causing floaters among other things. Since the lens was not positioned correctly, it starting grinding against the optic nerve in my dad's eye. He has since lost over 60% of his optic nerve (most likely more than that). If we had not gone for a 2nd opinion....my dad would be blind in 1 eye. Based on the conversation had at Dr. Starks office, it was obvious to any doctor that this lens should have been removed a long long time ago. MY FATHER ALSO RECALLS SMELLING ALCHOL ON SOMEONE'S BREATH DURING SURGERY ON THE FATEFUL DAY!! My Dad was eventually passed to another practice from Dr Manrique's care stating that their office did not have the equipment for continued care. In my opinion, he was avoiding any further liability. From my understanding....this is a trend with Dr Manrique's practice. He is a quack and greedy. He has caused several people the loss of sight and has caused so much suffering. He does not deserve to practice medicine and it is my hope that a complete and thorough investigation take place immediately before this happens to anyone else's Dad:(. read more

I had my Lasik done in August 2014 and have had great results. Best decision I ever made! I went in for an initial consult. I know several people on here complained that if you don't go thru with the exam, there is a fee involved. But they tell you that up front and do an eye exam on you that day, I wouldn't expect an exam to be free. At the exam, I found out I had a scratch on one eye so I could get traditional LASIK done in one eye, but the scratches eye required a procedure called Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA). Basically because of the location of the scratch on my eye, they work on the outer part of the eye and you need to wear a protective lens for a week or two versus them opening a flap on the eye and working underneath that. This was all very well explained and thy told me exactly what to expect. Both procedures were quick and took only a few minutes each. The doctor is only in San Antonio one day a week, so yes expect to go with a group of people and be debriefed together. I met Dr. Manrique the day of the surgery. He can be quick in this prep, but he did stay to answer any questions I had. Just speak up! Plus the staff was amazing and I completely trusted his nursing staff. They gave me a detailed instruction in what to expect for both eyes for after the procedures as well as a drop schedule. My drop schedule even varied on times because I had to have two different procedures done. This was to be expected, you can't expect to laser an eye without the follow up eye drop regimen. Tip: schedule a late appointment so you can go to sleep after the surgery. This helps with the healing and reducing irritable in the eyes after surgery. It's not painful per se, to me it felt like I just had an eyelash in my eye and it was very watery until the next day. I made sure to follow my drop schedule and attend all follow up appointments and had no issues. I have had several friends go here as well all with great results and no unpredicted issues or complications. My friend that that referred me had an astigmatism. the first go round, one eye did not take the procedure. They did all the eye screening on me, told me I would never need glasses again, did my first surgery and all went fine, except my near vision was not corrected enough. They jerked me around for almost a year, then did the surgery again to correct the near vision more. It is now Three years later and I need bifocals again! Definitely not worth the money, unless three years is good enough for you. With the costs, the snotty staff, and the discomfort of the surgery, I wish I had never done it, especially since just three years later I am back where I started! read more

The staff is pretty nice for the most part. Although I did know the front desk girl. The wait time is super long though. I did my free consultation and it took about an hour to call me back. After hey tell you that you are a candidate they send you to the financial person who tells you it is $5,600 but I told them someone referred me so they dropped it to $4,000 (that was a little fishy) got it done and the follow up process it super annoying and waiting for them to call you back is suck a waste of your day. I went to about 3 follow ups and all times I went didn't leave before 3 hours for a 5 min check with the Doctor. read more
