They kept the trays pretty full or at least divided the food accordingly so it constantly came out hot. It was nice to be able to get the type of salad dressing I wanted even though it was not one of the choices that was out. The only part that sucked, to me, was that the host had a lot of food left over and was not able to take any of it with her as they do not box up the catered food. It seemed like such a financial waste and based on the hosts face; this was not something disclosed prior to. My recommendation would be for their catered foods is to order less but you can always add on if need be.

The show was really good, but what I liked best about the entire experience is that you could bring in your own food and beverages. No matter where you were seated on the lawn, you could bring in a cooler, pizza, take-out, deli sandwiches...whatever you like. Some folks had really nice set-ups, and others arrived with nothing more than a folded lawn chair under their arm. Children ran free and folks made their way up to the dance floor positioned directly in front of the stage. I look forward to returning again in the future. It was really nice. Beware of the dragonflies. They were the size of my hand!

Unfortunately, at $25 per person, I left feeling that there are much better ways to spend your money. The New Welcome Center: Significant funds appear to have gone into the main entrance building, but the primary result seems to be an oversized gift shop with a lot of unused, empty space. Additionally, the second floor did not appear easily accessible. Shrinking Access: Our visit was essentially limited to the 1836 Prairietown. While Junction Town (Civil War Journey) used to be an engaging part of the experience, a beautiful historic home in that area is now cordoned off and reserved for staff only, which was quite a letdown. Shift in Focus: The museum has clearly pivoted toward catering almost exclusively to school field trips and young children rather than adult visitors. With major preparations underway for the Headless Horseman exhibit--which is strictly geared toward kids--there is very little left to appeal to an adult audience. We arrived at 1:30 hoping that there would be food service available at the outdoor café, but it was completely closed. The Verdict: If you are planning a family outing with young children, it may be worth the trip. However, if you are an adult planning to visit with another adult, I would skip it and save your time and money. This visit will likely be my last.

There were probably 2 other parties going on starting at the same time, so it took several minutes to figure out what we were supposed to be doing. We were told to load our coats/shoes/gifts/party favors/cake on a big cart, which someone then took upstairs to the party room. When you do an open complex party, you can roam around the entire place: Main-floor gym - mostly gymnastics equipment, plus a climbing structure with a foam pit you can jump in. Upstairs play area - has two zip lines (not too high or too fast - the 6-year-olds in our group were fine on them), an inflatable bounce house, and some smaller climbing toys for toddlers. There's also a basketball court area, but our group didn't venture over there. The party area was clean. Tablecloths, plates and napkins were included in our package. We had pizza (decent - sort of reminded me of grade school cafeteria pizza, but the kids ate it anyway), and the kids could go and pick out a bag of chips and a drink. The favor bags included a plastic cup, pencil, a couple of pieces of candy, and a coupon for an open gym visit. The birthday girl or boy gets a tie-dye "party at the plex" t-shirt. So I'd recommend bringing your own favors! You supply your own cake. Birthday balloon bouquets can be added for $25. Tip: have your guests print/sign their waivers at home so the kids can get in and start playing more quickly.
