AutoNation Subaru promised 2 days but it turned out they hadn't ordered the radio and it would take 7-10 business days, so--for the first time ever--we took it to Kevin at API for the routine stuff and would take it back to AutoNation for the radio another time. We dropped it off June 23 and would pick it up June 29 (which we did.) Drove it home (~5 miles) and it sat until Tuesday at 4:30 a.m. when my wife went to work. The car started shimmying and a burning smell and grinding sound came out from under the hood. She pulled over as the car lost power and the car wouldn't stop rolling in Park; used emergency brake and towed it back to API that morning (June 30). Kevin diagnosed the outback needed a new transmission but denied any culpability, saying instead this is a dealership problem and try to con them into extending the warranty. Towed it to Catonsville Subaru and we have their video diagnostic and written report stating the differential assembly was empty of fluid and the transmission was filled with differential fluid. It cost almost $20K to repair the damage and Kevin and API (with his son and daughter) refuse to respond. I hate to spend $10K to recover $20K but they are leaving us no choice. I've mailed hardcopies, sent email requesting "read receipts (APISOUTH@YAHOO.com) but they immediately delete them without reading. API has their folksy "aw shucks, I'm just one o' ya'll" routine down pat but it's shadier than Trump bitcoin. I recommend avoiding this place like the plague.

I accepted and received confirmation. * No one showed up at 12:45 PM either. * I continued calling and leaving messages over the next couple of hours with no response. * I ultimately left around 3:00 PM after waiting several hours. * The first time I was contacted by a real person was moments after posting a review, and the call was argumentative rather than focused on resolving the issue. Additional context (prior service): * The week prior, I had them work on two different vehicles. * One vehicle was repaired correctly. * The second vehicle only worked for a couple of hours before the issue returned. * I planned to have that second vehicle looked at again during this scheduled visit. * During that prior service: * The technician arrived approximately 3 hours late. * Even though they knew in advance they would be replacing an oxygen sensor, they did not bring the proper tools and had to leave to purchase the correct socket before completing the job. * No test drive was performed afterward to verify the repair. Key issue: This is not about job authorization. It is about: * Missed appointments * Lack of communication * No ability to reach a human representative * Inconsistent service execution and preparation Conclusion: If you rely on timely service, proper preparation, and the ability to communicate with a real person, this was not my experience. In all honesty I wasn't to sure how it would go because it was a pain for me...but that's why there are amateurs and professionals. Communication was too notch and they showed up right on time as scheduled, they knocked the job out in 90 min to my satisfaction. After their analysis, they charged me and returned the vehicle to me with both struts deflated and quoted a high price for the repair. I asked them could they inflate the compressor and the mechanic said it cant be inflated, it can only be replaced for the amount quoted. I got a 2nd opinion and was told that the compressor was deflated manually and the screws and ty-straps in the place where the compressor is located are missing. They also said the compressor can be inflated electronically and did it. Went back and asked to speak to the manager on duty. The guy I spoke to wouldnt reveal who he was but pulled up my ticket and when I told him what happened, he then said they didnt do it and he was Steve the owner and they didnt touch anything. Well if they touch anything, how did they know to quote me the price. Either he was lying or they gave a quote without doing the diagnosis. He also said no one never said they couldnt inflate the compressor. SO if you know you could do it, why would you return the vehicle to me with out raising it since the same equipment you use to do the diagnosis is the same equipment you use to instruct the computer to raise the vehicle. The other company inflated the compressor and no issues were found. Never going back again. Terrible service and I believe they create damage on your vehicle in order to charge for repairs.
