The customer service in the Novi location is the absolute worst! I have been there several times and it just keeps getting worse. The manager is very rude. I had to come back into the store the next day because they refused to honor My ten dollar off coupon. I called customer service and they told me they should have honored it. The manager was very nasty to me. She did say they were wrong not to honor it but was still very rude to me. I will never go back to this location. Ulta is one of those stores that is a great concept. Initially, it feels fun and they have some very cool brands. So, the score is for the selections and brands that they carry. There's a lot of good stuff! The downside that taints the concept and makes the place not as nice are the high prices, the Mark-up's and the wait at the check out. You get asked if you need help when you are looking around, but once you go to pay, be prepared to wait a while. They typically have one to two cashiers and 5-10 people in line. It's a true turn-off. So, Ulta is a store I don't really enjoy and only go there for specific items. Just not a fan. read more

Ulta is one of my go to stores for beauty products. I came in specifically the last time to pick up my free birthday mascara. I have received this offer just for being an Ulta rewards member. The customer service here is average. No one usually offers help, and when you do need help you have to search for someone. It's the products that they offer which bring me in to the store not the customer service. I'll continue to be shop here for that reason. read more

I love Ulta but I was really disappointed in the customer service today. I came in with my mom and sister, There were two associates in front, and no one greeted us. I also saw that two of the associates were running through the empty store looking as if they were playing tag. I even stood next to an associate and she did not greet me or ask if I needed assistance-even though I was walking around aimlessly looking for a product. First experience at an ULTA and I will definitely be back -- everyone was nice, knowledgeable and most importantly helpful. I had my brows done (from Hannah!) at the Benefit Brow Bar... and after many bad experiences, I'm so happy to say I've found my place and my new go-to girl. First time visiting this location and I won't be back. I, along with two other customers searched for assistance. An employee came over after about 15 minutes and was incredibly rude to the woman she was helping. Very abruptly answered her question starting with a "no honey" and ending with a "now do you understand". Both in a condescending tone. The lady stood there in shock and said "but I had a question". I was next in line with a question and she turned on her heels and walked away ignoring us both. I approached the counter where two other employees (one appeared to be the manager) were located and one was so busy scolding the other that I had to wait for them to finish up before either turned to ask if they could help me. It was very uncomfortable. By that point I decided against landing a new BB cream and requested my member bday gift. They won't have any until Friday. No big deal. The lady that appeared to be the manager handed me a mitt full of samples and said to come back another time. Nice gesture, however two samples were men's cologne and one was a color treated hair product. None of which are usable to me. Overall they had no desire to ask anyone if they needed help or even muster the ability to be polite when a customer sought them out for assistance. Keep in mind there were three employees on staff and only three customers. Super awkward experience. read more

I went to Ulta for the first and I was really disappointed. The selection was great but the prices are insane. You are better off using your coupons at Cvs, or bargain shopping online. I love ulta and this location is very close to my home so ill keep coming here..that being said...sometimes the employees give reccomendations that are way off (like for skin type etc) or give unwarranted advice and try to push products for the sake of pushing products. I had called to make an appointment for me and my daughter and I was told that hair cuts for kids are $31. So I book the appointment for later that day for her and I to get our hair done together. First, instead of her and I getting our hair done at the same time, we got our hair done one after the other so we were there for a total of 2 and 1/2 hours. Who wants to be there THAT long? Second, half way through cutting my daughters hair, the stylist (I don't know her name but she speaks with a Russian accent) mentions that the hair cut is $41... so I told her that when I called up here earlier that day, they said it was $31 dollars. She said, ok you can have the $31 dollar price... well at that point she decides to chop off my daughters hair and give her bangs even though I never asked her to give my daughter bangs. So I say something to her about her and she proceeds to "fix" it by cutting her hair so short that my daughter now thinks she looks like a boy (she is 6) and made my daughter cry. I also, told the stylist, in the beginning, that I wanted my daughter's hair to be right above her shoulders so I can still put her hair up in a pony tail. Her hair is so short, just below her ears, that I can't put her hair up .I said to her, I can't up this up, and she said "oh, you wanted to put it up?" Yes! I was clear about that from the beginning. What is wrong with this lady?!?! They ended up not charging me for the cut since I was so unhappy with it- but I don't really care about that. My kiddo left crying and now thinks she looks like a boy and all I wanted was for her to have a quality hair cut and to have a good experience since this is her first hair salon experience. I've been here a few times myself with no issues, but I'll never come back here again. I don't know if her chopping off my daughter's hair was in response to the price conversation or her own "creative" decision but she doesn't get to decide the length of the hair or if she feels my kid should have bangs. I made an appointment with Irina Budzug and was hesitant because my salon experiences in the past were iffy. I have naturally curly hair and most stylists say they know how to handle it, most don't. Appointment day came and I headed back to the salon and was greeted by Irina, smiling and friendly. My first appointment with her I had all over color and a cut done. She knew exactly what chromatic Redkin color would respond best to my hair type and nailed the coppery tone I was after. She treated me to a hair mask that was much needed, I just didn't realize how much! The cut was awesome too! She knew I wanted to keep some longer layers and gauged it perfectly. That was a great thing because every other time I've asked for long layers kept the stylists thought they kept long layers cutting my hair wet, as soon as it would dry and curl up a bunch it was way too short. Irina knows her stuff! She a master with color, tackling a very cool hombre to perfection! She treats her clients like family, is a great conversationalist and overall great person....but an even better, the best, stylist I've ever been to. I went to this Ulta because I wanted to find a new brand of make up. Not knowing much about makeup, I needed to have my complexion matched to foundation and a concealer. I walked in to find one woman very pale makeup (think 90s goth) that did not go with her skin complexion and another lady wtih makeup that was too dark for her complexion (her face looked dirty) glaring at me. So I happened to see another lady who I guess was ending her shift. She stuck me with the woman whose face looked dirty. Her attitude was horrible the entire time that she helped me, so much so that I didn't even want to stay any longer or go back. Customer service overall at this Ulta is trash. At some point I even tried to talk to the woman at the cash register who walked off before I could get to her. read more

My face just healed from a, 3/4 week old Microzoze facial don't ever go to there skin bar. One things for certain, the woman who did mine- had breath so bad I forgot her name. But, she didn't wear gloves while, extracting blackheads. And she had, either short nails or gel overlays. Because she left with me black scabs that looked worse, than the blackheads she unsuccessfully extracted. I'm really upset over this. Especially after how easy one came out after my shower today, underneath her scaring. read more

This Ulta is comparable to other stores, with friendly employees on the floor and usually a good selection. Unfortunately the cashiers always seem unfamiliar with current promotions, so if you're expecting a gift with purchase, be prepared to ask for it. I equate this to having to ask a waiter about specials when they're posted by the entrance - not impossible but also not something I expect as a customer. The cashier who helped me today seemed fairly senior or maybe a manager, but she huffed over to the cupboard when I asked about the advertised sample with purchase of a prestige brand. A customer next to me had the flyer and offered to check; there were also a number of signs promoting the GWP at that product display. The cashier, who said I would just have to wait while she processed a return of the qualifying item, told the younger cashier next to her that this was the proper way to handle a forgotten GWP. I am a laid back person and wasn't in a rush so waiting wasn't a problem, but maybe I looked surprised or annoyed. It distinctly felt like I had inconvenienced her - no apology or "oh that's right." Also no suggestion that I might like to redeem my points or birthday gift (my birthday was within the last week). After that reaction to a GWP I wasn't about to ask for anything else. My suggestion to them would be either to ask before ringing the order through, better training, or a cheat sheet of active promotions at the register. I think Sephora takes that approach. read more

I could and have gotten lost in here! Where has this place been? OR where have I been? I don't really like to shop, but I do love to play with colognes and make up. There is every brand and color imaginable under this roof. They offer a rewards program which helps - redeem points for a discount on your total. Coupons are always available, just give them your email address. I am sometimes leery on trying new brands and/or colors, but fret no more...there are tons of testers.. And better yet, if you aren't satisfied, bring it back for a full refund - all they ask is that 75% or more of the product is left. You can't beat that! Ulta has their own brand of cosmetics that are decent and always incredibly inexpensive when I go there. Prices on other name brands may be a tad higher, but it's worth it to me if it saves me a couple trips from going to other stores.. You'll find select corner drug store items too - razors, shampoo, face wash, etc..Though I can't comment on it, there is a full service salon in the back.. read more

do not go here if you want to get your makeup done for homecoming or an event. they said they hadn't scheduled myself and my friend and. the person who did my makeup wasn't professional..i had to do my own liner. they didn't tell me about any added costs as well-it's like 15 extra dollars for eyelash application and i could've easily done that myself if i knew of the cost. people were rude at the counter to my friend and overall i would just recommend going to sephora or mac to have your makeup done professionally and well even though its a bit more expensive. read more

I don't know why I go back to Ulta expecting a different experience because each time is worse than the last. Their customer service is so poor with sales representatives bored, irritated and with attitudes as if they are doing the customer a favor. I leave there each time so frustrated. The Novi Ulta store is the worst in Town Center on Grand River Ave. I do believe the only reason Ulta does well is because of their strong 'Rewards Program." Because the trip and experience is like a trip to the dentist. I am a Platinum Ulta customer and my last shopping experience at the Novi location left me feeling that I will pay the extra money to shop at Nordstrom just to feel human again. If you want to shop at Ulta without being hounded by employees, go to the one on Haggerty near pet smart. Haggerty's employees are much nicer and more helpful than this Ulta. I give this Ulta 2 stars for being clean and having lots of products but everytime I go here workers are very rude to me for reasons beyond my knowledge. Everytime I shop here employees treat me like I'm some kind of hoodlum that's stealing (I'm not suspicious looking at all). Maybe they're skeptical because of their proximity to Walmart and stereotype shoppers in this area. Possibly they may have had incidents before. I don't know. read more

After today I will only shop at this location for all of the many care products that I use. Today I was assisted by the general manager Devin. This was some of the best customer service that I have ever received. He was not over-bearing, he was very very polite and professional and best of all, he was honest. He was very knowledgeable and showed me exactly what I was looking for, and all of his suggestions were subtle and not aggressive. I must express again the honesty. On a couple of occasions he corrected me from over-spending on different items and offered better and more affordable options. He seemed genuinely interested in getting me exactly what I wanted for the best price possible. This is an uncommon trait and I greatly appreciated it. It worked well for the store as well as I was so happy with my experience I ended up buying a lot more than I had originally planned. I will definitely be back very soon and am happy to spend my money in a store with service as incredible as this. read more

This Ulta location offers great haircuts and colors by Redken. if your not satisfied they will fix any salon error. Very very friendly staff, my favorite place to get anything hair or eyebrow related done. Also have great facials and I love that Ulta products say if they are not tested on animals. I went to get my bangs trimmed since my friend told me that they do have a salon inside of the store. Unlike stepping into Sephora, there weren't anyone offering to help, so I walked straight to the salon and found no one there. Finally I found a person wearing a general manager name tag and asked him for assistance. He took all my information then told me to come back in 15 minutes which I did after running a quick errand. Upon my return, a nice cashier greeted me while the GM was right by him pretending that he didn't even see me. The cashier told me to sit at the salon area which I did, and found myself waiting for 15 minutes without any single staff checking on me. I had to get back to the office since it was during my lunch hour, so I stepped out without getting anything done. After feeling so furious, I stepped into Great Clips which happened to be a few doors by Ulta, and they got my bangs trimmed in 5 mins. This is 2016! Your negligence and poor customer service get informed on the internet. If you're not serious about your job, then maybe someone who is should get that job. read more

If you can find a different salon to do your hair and makeup I suggest you go there instead. Anywhere else can do better, you at home doing your own is better than the results they will freakishly create for you. I asked for a simple curl and neutral makeup look and ended up leaving there looking like Magenta from Rocky Horror Picture show, scratch that, failed Halloween attempt version of her. I really wanted a look that I really could've completed myself but just wanted a professional to take care of me but I ended up paying over a 100$ for something that resulted in me leaving there to go home watch a few YouTube tutorials to correct the whole look myself. I noticed the next day my hair was also lopsided, bonus. The worst part was they thought it was pretty, and my hair stylist thought it rocked and the other girls called me beautiful...I now feel like they made the whole experience a mockery and made me look so ugly to simply ruin my pictures. I am so THANKFUL that I left there when I did to salvage my photo plans. I took a collage of photos of the pictures I referenced, the before any hair and makeup to the ULTA results to my new corrected look that I completed and the only comment I got outside of ULTA on my ULTA look was..." Now you know where to go to get your Rocky Horror makeup done." Fabulous. I only didn't say anything/tipped because I was on such a time crunch and they will be needing that new extra bucks because I'm spreading the word of my HORRIFFIC experience and to not go here. I could've brought my whole entourage here, friends/family/coworkers/bridal party to get their makeup/hair done, soooooooo glad I learned now so I didn't make that terrible mistake later. There are far more cheaper/better YouTube tutorials to reference then going here. You've been warned. read more
