Any shop using the word "apothecary" tends to pique my interest since they often carry more niche brands, or higher end skincare, and as someone who loves exploring skincare I am quick to stop in; this was no different. I was a little surprised to see as much Dr. Hauschka here as they carry since that's a line you can get at Whole Foods. It was also a surprise that as a shop specializing in makeup and skin care that they didn't appear to carry a sunscreen--and I mean an a product that was solely sunscreen, not a foundation or lip color with SPF 30 or something. Sunscreen is probably the most important thing one can use in their routine, but you wouldn't guess that at a shop focused on skincare? They have a LOT of scents here. It's a small shop and it can quickly become overwhelming, as well as hard to tell the perfumes apart. Both of us customers in store quipped about the lack of coffee beans, and learned that they had them once and when they spilled they stopped using them. I was curious about one but I wasn't able to tell what it truly smelled like since one of the other folks in the shop had sprayed several already. The person working gave me a little tester to take home, though, which I appreciated. I would give this store another whirl if I was in the area. But overall I was a bit disappointed in their skin care options and lack of detail (the missing sun protection). They have a lot of makeup here too but I didn't really look at that much (it was somewhat dark in the shop so I wouldn't have been able to see a true color anyway). The building is not accessible; there are several steps to get into the shop. It's street parking only.

She listened to my previous make up experiences, explained what she was doing in each step and asked me what I wanted my finished look to be. I went to Dr. Been first for a consultation after my friend had a positive experience with a…read morerhinoplasty. It's one of those things that I always wanted after discovering my side-profile in fifth grade, but not something I thought would ever be reality. Once I went into Dr. Been's office, from the consultation, explanation of technique, and financing options...it became more of a feasible option in my mind. I don't know how seriously I was taking myself initially, not sure I would actually follow-through with anything beyond a consultation. I was so excited, the next day I had put down my down-payment for my appointment in January. Dr. Been walked me through how his technique creates long-lasting, durable results, and showed me via simulation what might be the best options for me. I began getting so excited looking at my 3D simulation of before and after, I had Laurie put me on a wait-list in case anyone had cancelled earlier. (Side-note: Laurie is just an absolute PEACH, and makes the whole experience that much more comfortable. She was always so patient with me on the phone as I fumbled through all of the information I needed to provide). I got a call back 3 days later saying that an appointment had cancelled for a whole month earlier (December 9th) and did I want to take it. I booked it right away and got even more excited. The days leading up to my surgery, I got multiple calls from Laurie and the nurse Sherrie to ensure I was as prepared as possible for pre and post-op. It really felt as though they were holding my hand, guiding me into the unknown. I really have to say though, people kept asking me if I was nervous as I got closer to the day of surgery--I think Laurie and Sherrie had a lot to do with the fact that I just wasn't. I didn't have a single nerve, even as I sat down in that chair and began receiving the IV for the anesthetic. What I liked most about consulting with Dr. Been is that he listened to my wants, but didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear. He was very careful in his technique to ensure the procedure would produce the right results for me--aesthetically as well as functionally. He was a true partner and expert consultant, giving thorough explanations in his reasoning behind the why or why not. Once I sat down in the chair, I was still as sure as ever I was making the right decision. The entire team was so supportive and comforting, there was really just no place to have nerves in this environment. I remember talking about what I do for a living, and then all of a sudden I was waking up. It was all so fast! And I couldn't believe it was done because I felt completely normal and no pain when I was fully awake. Dr. Been had sent me pictures of my new nose before they casted me up, and I was over the moon! It was the exact shape I had always dreamt of but never thought I would achieve. The first thing I did was destroy a McDouble from the drive-thru, and then I relaxed in bed watching movies. I didn't feel exhausted, or sick, or anything. I didn't even need to take any of the pain killers--which is strange, because any of my other friends who have undergone rhinoplasty through a different surgeon reported a lot of pain and exhaustion and discomfort. I wasn't even congested until the next day! I am not sure what it is, but I hardly have any bruising or swelling, and still no pain. My friends who were not fortunate to be a patient of Dr. Been are still all so perplexed as to HOW. I'm not sure what he is doing differently, but I highly recommend Been Plastics as these first couple days are supposed to be the worst of the process. I walked out of there with a $225 product (not covered by insurance) that didn't work at all. I called the next day about getting a refund and they claimed that since I opened it, I was out of luck. Most companies take back product no matter what the condition whether it's open or not if the patient/customer is dissatisfied. Also, the doctor claimed each vial lasted for 24 hours... oops it's 8 hours (she didn't read the 24 hours was just patient testimonials. I really feel taken advantage of, especially since my sight is involved.

After aimlessly wandering around for 10 to 15 minutes looking for my products, not one employee offered any greeting or asked if I needed assistance. Disappointed, I was about to make a break for the door when a retail superhero appeared out of nowhere and swooped in to save the day. I communicated my needs to this lovely young lady, and she efficiently pointed me in the direction of the products, providing top-notch service to someone who was feeling very ill at that time and just wanted to get in and out the store to get home. Given that I ended up dropping over $100, I think I'm justified in expecting a higher level of service - especially in today's economic climate where every dollar counts. I read that Ulta Beauty's in-store service policy requires every guest to be greeted immediately upon entry. Advisors must provide a friendly, personalized experience. The standard greeting procedure dictates acknowledging the customer, sharing current promotions, and directing them to specific areas. Perhaps Geneva Il Ulta could remind their staff that saying hello to customers and offering assistance upon arrival might just make them stick around long enough to part with their hard-earned cash, instead of choosing to walk out in silence. If that happens again at any Ulta, I'll be outta there faster than you can say 'ohh she used profanity' even if someone heartedly asks if I need help on my way out. Customer Service is becoming non-existent these days and very sad to see this happen. Two stars for the young lady who helped me otherwise I would have given a 1-star rating!
