Most of the time I go into Ulta Beauty holding the water for an actual fan who just digs the place... until I realize that I'm an actual fan myself. When hunting for a gift of fragrance from some obscure house in Milan, you have to give it to them for having an amazing array of potions and magic waters that is only slightly less impressive than their service that is actually present and informed. I was a first-time and had a good experience. My stylist was slightly inexperienced (due to her very young age), but she totally nailed the color. I get red color, which is very hard to replicate and she got it just right. Two negatives were that it took over two hours and the cut could have been shorter. read more

However, I can say the products I'm purchasing are in high demand and the staff will kindly hold items for you if you call and ask them to. I have a lot of hair and so I venture here for high quality hair products. Recently, I did make my way over to the skin care area and found some great serums. I like this store. I don't purchase a lot of things but it's a great place for my favorites and beauty interest. I use the melanin hair care line and I do like the Tracee Ellis Ross hair brush. I didn't think I'd spend roughly $20 for a brush but it was worth every penny. read more

I've been to many Ulta stores. Never have I ever been so upset by them. I walked in a picked up the foundation I wanted. It costs $40 so it's not the cheap stuff. I was looking at the Stila line and I was curious about a highlighter since they had two tones. Ordinarily I would do it all myself but one of the samples was missing so I couldn't search it to see which one I'd like. I see a gaggle of girls standing around gossiping. I go over to ask for someone to help. They then plain ignore me. Unreal! At the counter as I'm checking out, the cashier asks if I found everything I needed. I said no and explained what happened. All she says is "oh." That's it. No apology or let me call the manager. Nothing. I took my purchase and left vowing never to shop at that location ever again. read more

If you value your time and are someone who blocks out a whole day to make sure they can go to a salon I personally do not recommend this or any Ulta. Appointment was canceled by them after having it booked for a few weeks and they were unable to fit me in that original day or the next. I understand that issues with the system happen but they had time to identify the issue and attempt to find a resolution well before I was actually called and told there was nothing that could be done. The only thing I was told was that the stylist I had had never worked that day of the week, a fact that may seem obvious to someone who works with them but as a customer I would not know. I get that it is not the stylists' fault and I am not upset with them specifically but I am very very upset with Ulta. I did try to call other Ulta franchises but no one could fit me in on such short notice. Which is extremely heart breaking as this was for a very special occasion honoring another person and the only free days I had available due to an ongoing personal situation. I have been calling other Salons as well but unfortunately 48 hours is way too short notice for pretty much any salon. I admittedly don't go to Ulta Salons (or any salon) often but I have gone several times since high school or about once a year and always had great experiences not only at this location but several others. I also always made sure to tip extra as I understand that not going frequently means that the stylist may have to work a little harder to get me where I want to be. All of these experiences have really been over shadowed as it has made it nearly impossible for me to get the services in time (I have been searching all afternoon). Now I will likely never go back as I also tried to contact corporate customer service to see if they could fit me in at any of the local Ultas, but unfortunately they were even less helpful than this particular location. Again things happen but that does not change the fact that I now can't get my hair done and will either have to give up on it or try to find more time to get it done, all while still missing it for my event. Even if they do happen to respond with a kind reply that will not help in anyway as the date will have already passed and the funds are still stuck in a now seemingly useless gift card. I did even look for appointments at all local Ultas for the entirety of the next week, which is still too late, but there are none available and I am saddened more than anything else. I was also hung up on at this Ulta which I am giving the benefit of the doubt hoping it was just a mistake but it did make me feel a little extra bad all things considered. Edit: After a long chat with corporate I stand by my review and I do not recommend any Ulta to anyone, especially this location as it appears this has happened in the past here and not been resolved. Unfortunately I did not read those reviews prior as I thought my own experiences were enough to trust this business. The only thing they were able to do for me is "Take your feedback and improve our processes" but they were unable to provide any information about how this is done and who receives the feedback. I won't get that day off back, I won't be able to have my hair done in time for my event, and I have to shop at Ulta at least once more or forfeit the gift card I was given specifically for this event (I asked the giver of the card and they do not want it back and funds cannot be refunded to them as Ulta gift cards are handled through a 3rd party). I will not be shopping at or using Ulta services after that card is used and I encourage others not to as well. And I will ultimately end up giving a gift of equal or greater value to the person who gifted me the card as I feel incredibly guilty for not being able to use it for its intended purpose. I booked an online hair styling appointment for an important meeting I have at 6pm today 1/14/23. The appointment I booked was for 4pm, I booked the appointment at 2:00pm online, since I could not get through to a person at the store. I am a seasoned client at Ulta, on days when my personal hair stylist is not available or situations like today, when she called out sick. A man from Ulta Princeton, called me a half hour before my appointment at 4pm to tell me, "Did you attempt to make an appointment at 4pm?" I said, "I didn't attempt to, I have a confirmation hair styling appointment for 4pm today! Is something wrong?" The person proceeded to tell me in a nonchalant way, "yes you were booked over a highlight service." I said, "I'm sorry? What does that mean?" The man said, "You booked over an already booked highlight service!" I said, " I booked the only free time today, as it said online. Perhaps the person who booked their highlight service booked over my appointment? I do not have a highlight appointment scheduled!? What are you saying? Are you telling me I no longer have an appointment?" The man with an attitude now said, "yes the online system booked you over another appointment for a highlight service which was already in our system. We cannot take your appointment." I said, "so instead of calling me right away, you chose to call me a half hour before the appointment? Plus, instead of saying, I'm sorry we don't have an available stylist to take your appointment, you decide to call me and tell me a story about someone else's appointment, I somehow booked over?" The outcome of this experience: This is extremely inconvenient for me, Ulta's Princeton customer service skills are awful. When a customer service employee calls a client to tell them Ulta cannot take the appointment they made, cut to the chase. Personally I do not care if someone already is booked for whatever service they are booked for! All I care about is the fact, Ulta cannot take my business and I will have to scramble to find another salon who can!" Awful attitude! Awful customer service! read more

I liked the service I received here for a haircut. The stylist, Sharon, gave good tips throughout the process and walked me through the store to help find hair products I wanted. I will say that there were points where her comments were not necessary. For example, I showed her a picture of a celebrity whose haircut I wanted and Sharon then made FOUR comments about how I needed to be "realistic" about the haircut as the celeb had extensions and I did not, so my hair would not look as full as the picture. I told her I knew that and that she didn't have to keep making that comment. But she did. I just want the same haircut, not for my hair to have the same amount of extensions. I just changed the subject and kept doing so whenever she brought it up. She specifically told me to keep my "expectations VERY low" which kinda weirded me out. My hair ended up looking really similar to the picture so I wasn't sure why she was making those comments to begin with. It was the only time in the experience I was a bit annoyed. The rest of the time Sharon was easy to talk to and very sweet. I wouldn't mind going to her again for a haircut. My hair looks very healthy! read more

At this store, they have a great variety of cologne for me, and they definitely had great prices at this location, which was great. There is a lot of stuff here that is very pricey for my opinion, and I wish this store had more deals going on, as it would help me save money! Had my first appointment at any Ulta location today and I am beyond thrilled by my experience. I had a 90 minute facial with Danielle and she was absolutely phenomenal! I really like to do deep extractions and she did exactly that. I've had facials at other places in past and never felt my technicians listened to me ultimately leaving my disappointed but not today! My hair stylist at Ulta is the BEST in New Jersey. Marie "Michelle" Peoples talks to me about my hair before the cut. She is 100% professional. I color my hair and sometimes get highlights. She is friendly, courteous, considerate and experienced. She wants to know what I want to do with my hair and am I able to style it. It is easy to make appointments. The people are friendly. It's a great place to have your hair styled. They also have a full Ulta product store. 5 stars is the highest rating and that's what I give them. Appointments are suggested but not required. Ulta is my go to place for beauty supplies. Think of it like Sephora, but a little easier on the wallet. They have an extensive variety of all types of makeup. My favorites are the perfumes and nail polish stations. They also sell Lancome makeup, Bare Minerals, Anastasia and some other brands that are usually sold at department stores and Sephora. Ulta has their own brand of makeup too including eye shadow, nail polish, eye liner, mascara, etc which all pretty decent quality. There is an Ulta Rewards Club you can sign up for free of charge. Quarterly, depending how much money you spend at Ulta, you receive points and certificates for free products like an Ulta nail polish or body wash. I also receive coupons in the mail about every 6 weeks which always draws me back into the store. At the back of the store is a salon. I get my haircut here by Samantha and I absolutely love her! She understands exactly what I want and she delivers it. When I first went to see Samantha, my hair was in horrible condition and in desperate need of a color correction. She suggested I make another appointment and have her return my hair to my natural color. I was skeptical at first because after years of attempts no one has been able to fix it. But I gave her the chance anyway and she did an AMAZING job not only on the hair color but on the cut too. I am more than satisfied and have been going here ever since. I get compliments on my hair all the time! And aside from being a great hairdresser, she is an absolute joy to talk to during the haircut. I'm currently now waiting in line for 30 people when there are ppl at my event. The salon services took longer than expected and the Ulta manager couldn't accommodate one request. It's the worst start ever to my evening. I would recommend not coming to Ulta. It's ridiculous that they couldn't give me the option of paying before or something. I took my daughter for a haircut and simply asked for a little frame around her face and texturize her hair in the back as she has really thick dense hair. I asked before hand if the stylist knows how to cut Asian hair as it is not the same texture as Caucasian hair. They assured me that all the stylist are trained to cut all hair types. Michelle was my stylist name and I think the last training she had was in the 70's. Omg she totally butchered her hair! It was choppy, big chunks of short layers...and sprayed it down with crazy hairspray. I cannot believe that people in this day and age can give haircuts this bad. I am pretty sure I could have done a. YouTube haircut better than this. I would NOT recommend this place for a haircut, especially if you have Asian hair. My daughter was literally crying all night because it was so bad. Ugh so upsetting! read more

Worst experience ever. I have been going to Ulta for my haircuts for over 4yrs now. I always choose Tessa for the services and she is amazing but somehow I couldn't get her appointment for over a month so decided to try someone else. And that was the worst mistake of my life. She was rude and had no patience. I took some pics to show her for her opinion, which one would suit the best on my face, thinking she is the expert. But all she kept asking was "u showed me couple of pictures so which haircut do u want honey". I asked her again for her opinion and she again said the same thing. Now if I knew and if I was such an expert on haircuts then why would I waste my $60 on her??? Instead I would go to great clips with the pic and she would do it for just $15. It didn't end there. She was least interested in what I had to say, barely conversed with me & towards the end when the cut was done I asked her about the layers and rudely she said it's there and rolled her eyes looking at the cashier, forgetting that there are mirrors around her and that I saw her. That was it. I didn't say anything then and I regret that the most so writing this review. If u ever go to Ulta DON'T ever ever ever choose SUZY. Yup that's her name SUZY. read more

I wanted to say that the salon here is great! I went for the very first time on Friday and was set up with Cookie. I booked through the website, I received a call and email to confirm my appointment. They had to tweak it because the online system was not working directly with their in store system. But the young lady apologized and confirmed my appointment. I was running late, so I called to let them know. It was raining, they understood. I was greeted when I entered the store, and then again by two other associates on my way to the Salon. Which was actually refreshing as I went to the East Brunswick Store and felt like the Associates were hiding and could not be found to ask questions of. Cookie was amazing in with my hair. I told her that I wanted to donated it and end up with a style that was a mix between two pictures. She was excited and was able to cut the pony tail in a way that worked with the style I was aiming for, and got the most to donate. She was fantastic. The cut took about 45 minutes, included hair washing, cutting and styling. I have fine straight hair, so I'm sure that adds a level of ease to the cut. She made suggestions on what I could do with it in the future- different shade highlights. After she finished my hair, she was asked to consult on what another young lady wanted. From the picture it looked like a layered oil slick style. Cookie told her that it was going to take at least 2 appointments to get that look, and if she wanted it to look like the picture, she would need to layer her hair. The girl wasn't too happy about that, she wanted the look without the layers, but wanted it to look like the picture. Cookie also gave estimates on how long the appointments would be. She was so honest about what products would work, totally understood what would work on my skin, and was so patient. If you register for the rewards card, you get points for every dollar you spend and as it accumulates, you get the mailer inside that shows you what you can get for free with how much you spent the previous quarter. I've had nail polish (OPI $8.50 value) free Ulta Eye Liner (mechanical) meaning you don't sharpen this one (Value $7.50) free Just wanted to give you an example. You can get your hair cut there, buy all kinds of fragrances, eye lashes, shampoos, Qtips, hair dryers, curling irions, mens and womens skin care lines, cosmetics from all major names and high end brand names. I will continue to shop at Ulta. They are especially fun to visit around the holidays with all the gifts with purchase deals. read more
