I spoke with a wonderful associate Brooke by phone. She was so very helpful and actually called me back when she found the product I was searching for. I so appreciated her gesture. The. I went to the store and another associate, Taylor recommended a different product than the one I had come to pick up. When I told her I do not purchase that particular line because they're known for animal testing, she became combative and telling me I was wrong. I am not wrong. I've done a lot of research on the subject and she is repeating lines she's been told to tell customers . It is a well known fact that China and other countries still insist on animal testing and her insistence on spewing incorrect information was off putting and rude. Do your research before you call yourself an aesthetician and treat customers with respect. The associate at Ulta Beauty is repeating Clinique's official statement--but your understanding about China is the key nuance. Here's the accurate, current breakdown: Clinique's official policy Clinique says: * They do not conduct animal testing themselves * They do not ask suppliers to test * Except where required by law That last clause is the deciding factor. The China factor (this is where confusion comes from) China historically required animal testing for imported cosmetics. Young teenagers who have a clue what customer service is, they have no knowledge of makeup, they're standing around talking to each other, instead of helping customers out. Just called this location to see if they still had the holiday set Cecred sale for $25 and the associate didn't have any idea What I was talking about. It was a huge sale in store and online (30% off for a lot of holiday sets/ items) and everyone was rushing to the store to grab it. Instead of just saying that the sale had possibly ended, she proceeded to back and fourth with me that it's full price as listed. She treated me like I was insane for ever thinking it was on sale as she "uses Cecred products herself" Welp here's the proof. From Welcome to Watched: An Uncomfortable Ulta Experience I visited this Ulta yesterday to pick up an online order and grab a few additional items. Upon walking in, I was warmly greeted by the cashier, (Mia) which was a great start. Picked up my online order, grabbed a bag to shop as I had my list ready. Within five minutes, a blonde-haired woman--possibly a manager--approached me, asking if I needed help and letting me know about a free gift with purchase for StriVectin. I politely declined and continued browsing. A few minutes later, she came back to check on me again. I assured her I was still fine. Then, yet again, she approached me while I was looking at lip glosses. At that point, I decided to ask her opinion on the Clarins lip oil vs the Kylie lip oil; but her response was dismissive--she said, "They're all about the same." It felt like she was more focused on checking up on me rather than actually helping. A few minutes later, she returned again and asked if I was still doing okay. This time, I asked about another brand, and she vaguely told me it "might be over there" and that she wasn't sure if they even carried it anymore. It was clear she wanted me to move along rather than assist me. At this point, I felt incredibly uncomfortable--like I was being watched as if I were doing something wrong. I've worked in retail for over 20 years, including Ulta in Atlanta (Buckhead), so I completely understand the importance of customer service and loss prevention, but this was excessive. I decided to check out and was helped by the same friendly cashier (Mia) who initially greeted me. Meanwhile, the blonde-haired woman, who had been shadowing me the whole time, was now sitting down (at the benefit display) at the front of the store on her phone. No acknowledgment, no goodbye--just a complete shift in demeanor. To make things even weirder, after I checked out, I sat in my car for a few minutes looking up my next stop. As I was pulling out, I noticed the same woman was now outside on her phone. The whole experience felt off, and I left feeling more like a suspect than a valued customer. I will not be shopping at Ulta again. This level of scrutiny made my visit uncomfortable, and it's something that should be addressed. I went in for a particular Elf product that was just launched and all over TikTok. I checked the Elf section in the store and couldn't find it. I approached the two greeters and explained what I was looking for and they just dismissed me. Had no interest in helping me find it, just said "no we don't have that". I knew that wasn't true because Ulta has a huge selection of Elf products and it was even on their website. So I went and found someone else and asked if she knew if it was anywhere in the store. She said she would check in the back for it since I let her know I couldn't find it in the Elf section. She was super sweet and attentive and came back with 6 different options of the exact product I was looking for! I thanked her repeatedly for her kindness and willingness to help a loyal customer find what she was looking for. I let her know that I hadn't had that same experience from the two girls working the front. I asked her name, it was Bella, and said I'd love to find the manager to tell her what a great help she was and how positive her whole vibe was. Turns out she is the manager! Was incredibly happy with my experience getting my hair done by Janis. She did the "total blonde" service for me. I think she should really be "expert" status. She knows what she's doing! I've got light, almost platinum long bleach blonde hair (dyed) and she was able to do everything right. She toned it beautifully, took out the yellow tones, and made sure everything was perfect & how I wanted. She went above and beyond! She also was super fun to chat with while in her chair. I did not leave with stains on my forehead despite having lots of baby hair. She's attentive to detail. She took her time with my scalp and impressively knew exactly which products work well with my hair. She struck me as extremely outgoing at first but she's not the type of person who will endlessly talk your ear off. It was a good balance between pleasant small talk and non-awkward silence. You can tell that she's a kind-hearted, nurturing person in her core. Definitely the type of person you would want to spend a few hours with. read more

I an appointment at 10:30 for a blow out at the Uktra in Rancho Santa Margarita with Amelia's S. I was 7 minutes late and she refused to honor my appointment. Ulta has terrible customer service! I contacted guest services and was told that there is a 10 to 15 minute grace period for late customers. I'm an Elite customer and have spent thousands of dollars on salon services at Ultra. Very rarely are Ultra hair stylists on time and I've never complained about the hair stylists running late. I was shocked that I was turned away for being 7 minutes late! I had an appointment at Ulta for a root touch-up, gloss, and deep conditioning on short notice, and booked with Veronica. This isn't the Ulta salon I usually go to, and unfortunately, it was the most stressful salon experience I've ever had. My appointment was at 2:30, and right from the start, things went downhill. Veronica didn't seem to know that she could look up my previous color in Ulta's system, which another stylist eventually helped her with. Then, her technique was rough--she pulled my hair while applying the dye and worked in a confusing manner, clipping my hair up in sections even though she was only doing my roots. During the rinse, she mentioned the water in her station either gets too hot or too cold, so she washed my hair with freezing water rather than trying another bowl. When applying the deep conditioner, she used a spray bottle, which was odd to me since deep conditioning is usually a cream product. While my hair was soaking wet with product, she attempted to brush it out at the bowl, hitting the bowl so hard with the brush that I had to ask her to stop. Afterwards, she didn't even wrap my hair in a towel before heading back to her station, so my shirt got soaked. When she tried brushing my hair, it was so tangled, which shouldn't have been the case if she'd applied conditioner and deep conditioning. She struggled to even part it and had to keep spraying detangler several times. Then, as she began drying it, another stylist had to step in to show her the proper technique for blow-drying and styling hair. I arrived at 2:30 and didn't leave until 6pm, which is far too long for this kind of appointment. I left feeling anxious and disappointed, unsure of how someone so unprepared could be trusted with clients. When I got home, I had to finish blow-drying and styling my hair myself, and in the process, I noticed that bits of my hair were crusty. This location's lack of experienced stylists was evident, and I won't be coming back. I recommend the RSM Ulta instead, where the staff knows what they're doing. read more

I came to the Lake Forest location to return 2 foundations that were too dark for my face. The lady at the counter suggested I do an even exchange. I asked for help to get a better color match for the foundation I was returning. The lady who helped me find my foundation shade was very friendly and helpful at the beginning. She was helping me for a few minutes, but then was called over to help another customer. She said she would be right back, but never came back. I eventually just went with what I thought was my shade without her help. When I went to complete my exchange at the counter, she was up at the register helping another person right next to me. She was the manager who had to help the employee completing my return. I was in front of the manager looking at her trying to get her attention to tell her that I eventually found my shade. She just ignored me. I was so confused with it all. It got me thinking, how could this person in customer service not even look up at me after we had what I thought was a fine interaction? It was probably because I was returning items and wasn't helping with revenue for that day. I'm giving this place 3 stars since the rest of my experience was fine. The cashier who helped me was a tall, curly haired girl, who was super kind and patient with me even after I couldn't figure out the math on my receipt. But the manager left me feeling terrible about myself for the day. I spend hundred of dollars at Ulta! This won't stop me from being an Ulta customer. She tried to get the OK from the lead cashier and she wasn't okay with that. So I ended up not spending the extra $100 on those items. My review & rating is strictly for the hair salon and hair stylist Ingrid. I love Ingrid and the fact that she always remembers what I want. Yes I get a basic trim but I have for the longest time have had issue getting any stylist to listen and execute that without adding more layers or unevenness. I have experienced hair loss and each time she asks how I am doing knowing that hair loss is a sensitive subject for all. She is very very gentle with my hair. I at one time needed to get in last minute and was not able to see her. Unfortunately the stylist just ripped through my hair and don't understand how/why she had such issue when Ingrid never has. She has such compassion in the way she talks and to ensure your comfortable and enjoying your appointment. Make sure to book with Ingrid! She does fill up fast as she has many clients but I'll make sure to always wait for her to cut my hair again even if I'm in need of an immediate cut. read more

I baught a bunch of make up here and have recently done my research and watched the documentary - Not So Pretty - which talked about how talc ingredients are extremely harmful on the body caused by asbestos . I ready the ingredients and was super displeased that every new piece of expensive makeup I bought had talc in it. What I also don't get is how a company can sell such harmful products to the community. I was also displeased that they could not help me get my money back either because it had been over 60 days. Quick trip during lunch and girly pop behind the register would not take no for an answer on the 'rewards.' They keep saying that you can't make a return without it, which is totally a lie. (I'm actually a member but didn't want to give them my info after she approached this.) I literally told her 'no' at least fifteen times and finally asked if she was able to scan my items so I could pay. I gotta get back to work. She kept talking about the membership like I didn't say no. So I left the stuff at the register and walked out. That training to push the membership is biting them in the butt with missed sales.
