Did you ever think you read a review written by me of a place with the word beauty in the title of the business? Yeah, me neither. But guess what? I am a pretty complex dude. So let the review of the business I cannot mentally comprehend commence. I am not the typical client of Ulta. I like guns, driving fast, and muttering expletives when I describe people in traffic. So my visits to Ulta stores have either involved me running through the store flailing my arms yelling Naked Palette, or like my trip to this location, the look of complete confusion on my face. Picture this; I was searching for Christmas gifts for my oldest who had some James Charles Mofo palette or some such nonsense on her list. When I think of pallets I think of the wooden things stuff comes stacked on in trucks. It's like my brain cannot understand what the heck this paint looking stuff is for. Anyway....... I came to this store in the peak of Christmas season. It was jam packed with people, the majority of which were women. They all seemed to know exactly what they wanted and there was this giant man (me) standing alone in an aisle looking more dazed and confused than I've ever been in my life. A very kind employee must've noticed I was about to hurl myself through the window in disgust and she asked if I needed help. I told her these exact words: "my kid wants some James Charles thing and I have no idea what that is or if I am even in the right place". She laughed at me, which in this situation was totally appropriate, and pointed directly in front of me and showed me what I was talking about. Heroes don't always wear capes ladies and gentlemen. Look, you may think this whole review is ridiculous. But I bet if I took you to a gun store or watch store I'd be super comfortable and you would be like what in the hell is this sorcery? That's how I felt here. But lucky for me, they must be used to confused looking dudes. So Thanks Ulta for not calling the cops on me and helping make Christmas a miracle for my kid. My mother-in-law and I went in to browse. She had never been, so she wanted to check it out. We had walked down every aisle and picked up products. Opened them to check the scents. As we were finalizing our decision on what we were going to buy, we stopped to smell another product, and an employee came over and spoke to her like she was a child with the plague. Telling her we don't open things if you have a question you need to ask. Now you need to hand me that, and I have to set it aside. Like she contaminated the overpriced lotion. We put down the things we were going to buy and left. We won't be back. If you talk to your customers like they are beneath you, you're the problem. read more

This store is clean and well organized. Every time go there i go with my teenage daughter. If we need something from the case we just ask for help. Employees are friendly and if you ask for help they will help you and spend all the time needed to find a product you will be happy with. I do not understand negative reviews at all. read more

Middle aged woman with purplish hair will follow you around the store like you are stealing if you are a person of color. I got what I needed and left. Would have loved to splurge on makeup, but we felt too uncomfortable to stay in a store that wasn't welcoming to all customers. That's unfortunate because I normally love coming to Ulta. read more

Stopped into this Ulta to pick up a curling iron this evening. I knew exactly which one I was looking for, but had a hard time finding it at first. I was one of three customers in the store and I walked by at least 4 people that worked there and no one asked me if they could help me find anything...as one of the employees walked by, I tried to make eye contact to see if she could help me, but as I turned the corner to get her attention, I found the exact curling iron I needed. I bought a Nars lip pigment, Walk This Way. The color in the tester was a gorgeous mauve pink. I bought the color and tried it the next day. It was a bright pink. The tester was a completely different color than the actual lipstick. I went to return and I couldn't find anyone to help me find another color. Usually there is one to many people around always asking you for help. One lady that was putting away products, I didn't think she worked there, saw me standing and lookin around. She didn't ask if I needed help at all. When I went to the front she was helping check people out. The other girl at the counter paved a manager. The manager never came. I waited another 10 minutes to get help. No one came. I returned the lipstick and won't ship at this particular Ulta again. I spend a good amount of time and money at this store. I am really disappointed in the customer service. read more

I had gotten my hair cut while in Michigan by a stylist who was very highly rated, but I personally did not absolutely love the cut. It was very flat, because only the length had been cut at the bottom with some layers added, and I needed some face framing layers. The stylist was afraid to add more layers because my hair is fine and didn't want to thin it out too much. Before I had come in, I looked up a few salons in the area and had thought about going next door to Regis Salon, but decided to come here based on the Yelp reviews. I called Ulta and was able to be booked on a last minute notice. Since I didn't want to take any chances with my hair this time around, I made sure to have a photo for reference to show my stylist, Cristina. She took a look at my hair and agreed that it needed some texture and volume, and we would fix this by adding a few more layers to the front. Cristina then washed and conditioned my hair, and made the necessary adjustments, giving me recommendations on what she thought would look good. She did exactly what I had asked for and exceeded my expectations. I am very picky about my haircuts and have only found two stylists that I absolutely love in California. That's saying a lot because I have tried many different stylists in the past. I've found my go-to place for haircuts here with Cristina, and am so happy that I happened to find it on the first try and also that it's so close to where I live. The price was very reasonable, Cristina was very professional and thorough, my hair has a lot more movement, and I couldn't be happier. This is the best haircut I've had in a while! read more

The customer service is terrible at this Gulfport store. I went in today to get some makeup. No one ever asked me if I needed any help. When I went to check out, I asked the clerk if she would check to see if I had any points that I could use. She said I did, but when she checked me out she didn't apply them so I asked why wasn't my points applied. OMG, it took several attempts of trying , refunding and rerunning my purchase, I don't think balances was the same! Unbelievable! read more

I went to this store with a list of items I needed. One item was for a Christmas gift and the salesperson, Priscilla, was very helpful with suggestions and recommended a great gift set that the recipient just loved. Some items on my list were not in stock and Priscilla was very helpful and knowledgeable in recommending substitutions that I purchased. I've never had any problems with the location or the sales staff; however, it's sometimes under stocked or it's just that popular that items sell out quickly! read more

I was in there for over 30 minutes!! Not one time did someone ask if I needed help!! I couldn't test any makeup for the color I wanted bc they were all taped!! Like how is anyone suppose to match their color tone?!! But an employee sure walked up to me telling me that I can't take anything out of the box, but not one time did she ask can I help u with anything!!! Just so unprofessional and I buy all my makeup, perfumes, and moisturizers from ulta well they just lost a customer, that was the worst experience EVER!! After the first horrible impression of this store, I never wanted to go back. But not wanting to make the drive to diverville when this Ulta is 7 minutes up the road eventually made me go back. Let me tell you, the reason this location is now getting 5 stars is because of one employee. Her name is Emily and she has really cool gauges in her ears. She always makes a point to talk to me, let me know what cool stuff is coming in, gives me the most excellent goodies at checkout and is always always friendly. Back in December I was Christmas shopping and I had a nice discussion with the Salon Manager. (I can't remember her name) I am not a frequent Ulta shopper and never knew they had a full service salon in the back. All I know is it would be awesome to find a local stylist that I liked. She told me that they had a haircut/color special for $60 if you go Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and that everyone was really good who worked there. I explained to her that I drive over an hour to Lucedale to get my hair done because I love my lady (who charges me $50 for everything) but with my hectic schedule it was nearly impossible to coordinate it most of the time. So here it is March and I finally have an appointment to get my hair done. I called in the morning and confirmed my time and I also mentioned the special. The lady on the phone was very nice but she informed me that they raised their prices and the new 'special' was now $75. Although I was bummed out I was fine with that. If the prices have changed they have changed. So now I'm up to $75 plus tip. That's a hundred bucks. I'm still okay with that. When I arrive I am met by my stylist and she asked me what I wanted. I showed her a picture of my last cut and color and she says 'those are highlights and they are not included in the special'. Okay so what is the special exactly? It's a cut and all over color. Nothing extra and certainly not a highlight or whatever it is they do. I kindly explain that the salon manager quoted me just a few months ago and how am I supposed to know the difference in color? I don't know hair lingo. The manager obviously saw my hair and knew it wasn't an 'all over color'. So now we are looking at $75 for the basic cut and color, $40 more to add dark underneath and who knows how much to highlight my damn head. Never got a full quote because I got up and left. Left disgusted and upset. I planned my entire day around my head. I am a night shift nurse and let me tell you it's hard as hell to plan daytime stuff because this is the time I usually sleep. I had to drive in rush hour traffic again to get home and I still need my hair done. I'm lucky to get in once every 6-9 months with my hectic life and here it is 5:30 and I am home wondering when I will get a chance to try this again. I'm a nurse, I can afford to get my head done that's not the point. When you go to an establishment just a few months later and it's all new people, all new rules it's quite ridiculous. Needless to say I won't be back. Ulta can take their salon and shove it. Maybe $150 (estimate) with a tip is the norm around here but I think its crazy. The sad thing is they more then likely couldn't care less. read more
