This is definitely a late review: Sometimes you just need to get in your car and drive. That's how…read moreI ended up at Hair + Tonic in Gulfport on a morning when I really needed a reset. I didn't plan it--I just saw the salon, took a breath, and asked if they had space for a walk-in. Lauren, the owner, was the only one in that morning. She had just finished with a client earlier than expected and somehow made room for me without hesitation. I didn't ask for anything complicated--just a cut and style--but what I got was more than a haircut. The salon itself is clean, modern, and airy--comfortable in a way that puts you at ease without trying too hard. But it was Lauren's presence that made the real difference. From the start, she was warm and easy to talk to, and she genuinely welcomed my questions about her life, her business, and her travels. Our conversation was effortless, and being able to shift my focus onto someone so kind and grounded was exactly the kind of happy distraction I didn't know I needed. There were a few people who came in while I was there, hoping for walk-ins, and Lauren treated every one of them with kindness--even while making it clear, without words, that she was fully present with me. She held eye contact, stayed grounded, and somehow made me feel seen the whole time. To be honest, I had a pretty bad haircut experiences a few months prior, and I came in that morning carrying a lot of anxiety. But Lauren's calm, down-to-earth vibe put me at ease in a way I didn't expect. She didn't overdo it--she was just authentically herself. That alone made a huge impact. And yes--my hair looked amazing. I only wish I had asked for styling tips so I could recreate the magic at home. When I left, I felt like a different version of myself--lighter, calmer, more myself. Lauren even recommended a nearby spot where I could work remotely, and her suggestion was perfect. Every piece of that day unfolded better because of her. I live in New Orleans, but I'm genuinely considering making the hour drive just to have Lauren cut my hair again (next time, with an appointment). I wholeheartedly recommend her--not just for her skill, but for who she is.

The salon gets 5 stars. The stylist, Sierra gets 1…read more The salon is conveniently located, beautifully & tastefully decorated, and well equipped. Reception is always kind, professional & friendly. The stylist I'd seen for years left the area. I drove by this salon all the time & decided to give it a try. The first several appointments went well, until one day Sierra cut my already short hair super short, even with the picture open on my lap. After about 4 months, it grew out & I got back to the style I wanted. I didn't go back & make a public fuss about it. I simply & quietly texted her to let her know this cut was much too short. She insisted that she followed the previous cut, but... did you? Really? The style finally restored, I went in a week ago for a cut & color touch up. No need to dry & style it, I left the salon with wet hair. When it dried, my medium-brown hair was coal black! Again, I quietly texted her to tell her it's much too dark & it will need to be lifted at my next appointment. Her next text was defensive & didn't make much sense, telling me this was her way of treating the faded ends. I explained that it didn't work. The ends are still lighter & the right side is significantly lighter than the left. It took several days, but she finally returned the text saying I can come back in to lift it, but she wouldn't color it ever again. Additionally, she has cancelled my appointment in August & I should find a new stylist. She made it sound like the super short cut months ago was my fault & somehow, this extra dark & uneven color is also my fault. Moral of the story: High Maintenance is a lovely, welcoming salon & I would recommend you try it. But if you happen to get assigned to Sierra, do yourself a big favor & request a different stylist.

I've been growing it out for two years and rarely color it. I should have known better than to let anyone I don't know touch it. Just my luck. I go in and got someone that had no idea what they were doing. I asked her if she knew how to balayage and she said yes. She bleached a whole chunk of my hair. I've never seen anything like the technique she used.. She colored all my hair and not just little pieces. She put a color on the top that actually lightened my natural color ( not what I wanted at all) I showed her a picture. Several times! She told me she knew how to do it. She said she's been doing hair for 15 years. Her name is Tiffany. She worked so fast and didn't take her time at all. When she took the towel off my head to blow it dry I was totally freaked out. All of my hair was blonde. It was a freakishly orange brass color on top and blonde from the middle of my head to my ends and my hair was about 16 inches long. She also messed p my trim and it's not even. She was working way to fast and didn't check her work. She blamed it on the new color they are using. I'm not the person that really confronts people I am way too nice so I let her finish and paid and left and went home and cried to my husband and cousin. They told me to call and go back up and have them fix it. Bad idea. I should have just got my money back. She used the same technique to "fix" it. More bleach and now a black color all over and a chunk of hair around my head bleached on the ends. I looked like a skunk. Then to try and fix the bright white bleached hair she put a toner on it and now my hair is green. I've been crying all night and this morning and will be going in today to get my money back. I am beyondy disgusted with how aweful my hair looks. It's put it up and wear a hat in public bad. I will be posting pics . There were two other ladies there that knew she was ruining my hair and didn't step in and stop her. I should have. I wish I had the courage to tell the girl to stop. Now my hair is beyond damaged and I can't even color it to fix it. I have to wear it like this until I can travel 800 miles away and have my cousin fix it after its rested. I hate my life . I am mortified. My hair was so beautiful. I dont know what I did to deserve this. I feel like all my beauty is gone. Also my husbamd went In to talk to her to get our money back and she tried to lie to him about what I told her I wanted and he called her out on it. I pray we get our money back so I can pay to have my hair fixed.

She was fantastic at listening and understanding my needs and wants with what I wanted done. She worked color into my hair with such precision and when she blowed dried it I was shocked how amazing it looked. I'll be going back because i might even go shorter!
