my extensions were put in feb 1st by stylist laura. they fell out the next day after the appointment and 3 more times in the next two weeks. i was in her chair a total of 5 times in 2 weeks. i was offered no compensation for the many inconveniences and constant discomfort. instead of getting the hair moved up at my next appointment on march 7th, i had to get the extensions fully taken out and put back in due to the extremely poor installation work the month before. this time, the extensions were installed off centered and crooked. 2 weeks after my appointment they were completely falling out of my head yet again. i had to get them taken out again after only 2 weeks and re-put back in correctly... safe to say, at that point, i took my business elsewhere. This store is one of the worst Ulta Stores. I asked for help to choose a long staying lipstick in the right color for me for my daughter's wedding. I had a swatch of the dress as well. I was told lipstick is personal. Ok thank you I am looking for some guidance? I am looking for an opinion? Nothing. Also, they are constantly out of stock on everything. The store is not clean or organized and I find most of the staff rude. There is no set up to take off any makeup you might try on. This time was no different from any other time in last two years. I love Ulta and am usually a fan. However, the manager Victor at the Freehold Raceway Mall location is down right rude. On three separate occasions I have had him speak down to me for no reason. It's an upscale Duane Reade featuring drug store make-up and some nice upscale make-up. Their brand names includes Smashbox, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Urban Decay, It Cosmetics, Calvin Klein, Clarrasonic, Laura Geller, Too Faced, etc. Wish they carried Dior, Elizabeth Arden, and the other really upscale for more mature ladies (40+). I really get the feeling they appeal to the younger aged ladies. The nice thing about Ulta is the more you buy, you obtain points IF you join their free membership. That translates for every dollar you spend, you receive a point. One of my pet peeves with them is I need samples when it comes to foundations. Their lighting isn't the best. Too bright and artificial. To tell me to use their hand mirror and go by their window really doesn't change anything. I usually purchase the foundation only to return it and switch it to another color several times before we all get it right. My skin tone is NC 25. I'm a warm light to medium with slight yellow undertone skin. The one girl keeps telling me to get these foundation colors but they all look too pale and pasty on me. I try to avoid her like the plague. She's nice but I prefer the other lady who's got short hair with tinted glasses. She's spot on but if she doesn't know a certain brand, she refers me to someone else. Now that's honesty. As for the cashiers, I'd really appreciate it if they tell me what my points and rewards are. On occasion, I've purchased things and forgot to ask them to use my reward points for additional dollars off. Then my reward dollars concluded that day and I lost out on it. Grrrrrr. Most of the cashiers are nice. Some have no personality when you ask them to please check if you have any reward points. Not even a smile. I'll definitely come back but I want to add one more thing before I go... This store does not carry Clinique. So far, the only Ulta that carries Clinique is the holmdel location. Had to wait 20 minutes, where the stylist acted like I was not expected. Wanted a beach wave blow out and the stylist swore her quick and easy tool would work for over a week. It's obvious now she used her Hot Tools to finish my hair in a half hour to save time and it wilted in 2 hours. $40 blow out with a $10 tip, what a joke. read more

I was sent to this Ulta Beauty after East Brunswick called me right before my appointment cancelling on me knowing that I had engagement photos that day, because I specified so when I called to make the appointment. I should have taken this as a warning about the Ulta company in general and their lack of professionalism. I was under the impression that her name was Jess, but the license said Mikayla. I had to ask the stylist at Freehold 4 times to redo my hair. I ended up looking like a Jersey Shore cast member with the tease and tight curls she put in. I asked several times how does this look anything like the photo I showed you? To which she replied "oh she has different hair than you". So if you couldnt do it from the beginning, why did you continue? It got to the point where my hair was being fried and damaged and I was running out of time before the session so I just accepted what it was and figured I could brush out the curls more. This was the absolute worst hair style I have ever had done to me. The photos came out horrific because of my hair. You can see the crunch of the hairspray, bald spots and separation. My hair looks like it was dipped in a grease frier along with the crunch. Its so bad that the photographer needs at least 3 weeks to edit. These are photos I have to live with the rest of my life for what is supposed to be a happy time. I tried speaking with the manager but I felt intimidated because the stylist was staring at me while I did. I am so disgusted and upset with the service and how everything came out. To add insult to injury, guest services has done NOTHING to remedy this situation except send me an anonymous survey. To add, East Brunswick informed me that lash application is $10, including the lashes. Apparently that is not true, and I had to pay for lashes and the application, in which my eyes were sticking shut when I opened them. Its been 3 days and I still cant get the glue out of my lashes. I want a refund on the garbage services I received and the employees at both East Brunswick and Freehold have disgustingly rude attitudes. Paige at East Brunswick made it clear I was annoying her when I asked why they waited last minute to inform me of the cancellation, and the cashier at Freehold had an attitude and asked me sarcastically why I was buying an empty lash box when lash services were clearly marked on the service form, then was annoyed when I asked to use my points. Its clear that Ulta could care less and my 3 year old niece could do a better job at styling hair than the joke of stylists they hire here. Ulta has a great selection of beauty products for men and women! To me, it's a bit pricey. I don't see the point of paying $30 for perfume or cosmetics, But, my friends love coming to Ulta, so I just let them pay for what they want. Plus, they always have more money than me. Everything is stocked well, and it is a very clean store. This Ulta is also inside a mall, which is kind of cool, but odd, because I've never seen an Ulta in a mall before. The staff is really friendly as well, and they had great enthusiasm, even after I asked stupid questions about purchasing items. I went to exchange two items at this Ulta in Freehold Raceway mall & the cashier Yasmeen was absolutely rude with an attitude on 100. If I come return/exchange something it's your job to do it wether you like it or not. The policy is 60 days so I had like 3 more weeks left so I ran to exchange those two items. She was giving my mom and I such a hard time on when we bought the item blah blah blah (only because we're Hispanic so they automatically think we're being cheap or trying to cheat the system to get more items) and trust me I know those are the things they assume because I used to work at Ulta and those girls are super biased/prejudiced. These girls swear they know about makeup and what not & half of them are just trying to sell you the most expensive items so they make the daily goal. I never make time to review about anything but I was just so upset that I had to download this app just to rant here. I'm never going back there because they always chase you around like you're stealing and what not. Had a color dye job today done by this salon. It was by far one of the worst jobs done on my hair. The stylist was nice but must be a newbie. She even told me she needed to call over her other stylist co work who was a male for advice. I couldn't believe it. She bleached my hair.. Hair turned orange and then put toner and color on top of the newly bleached area. Once she took off the toner my hair was basically dark again. So she bleached and damaged my hair for nothing!! I hope a manager at this location reads this and is able to make improvements. I go to this location often to shop and overall my experiences are just ok. I went in on a busy weekend day and was hounded by three employees working on the floor within two minutes. I politely informed them all that I didn't need help but one got somewhat confrontational with me when I told them I didn't buy a certain brand anymore because they aren't cruelty free and I only divulged this information because she asked. Meanwhile when I went to check out there was a line and only two employees working at the counter. I felt like going up to the group of floor people now chit chatting and saying why yes you can help me pay for my things so I can leave please. I always get a great haircut from Mick. He pays attention to detail and ensures I always look sharp. I receive a lot of compliments on my hair cut. He is a great conversationalist and always make the 30 minutes in the chair very enjoyable. The entire team: Mallory (salon manager), Beata, Mikayla, Linsdey, and Alicia make you feel like family when you're there. I couldn't find anyone in the store to ask until I went to the register to pay for my other items where 3 employees were stocking one display by the registers. I came to the beauty salon to get my makeup done for NYE, I was very specific with what I wanted and I was not satisfied at all. I brought my own lashes to put on and asked the lady not to cut them. Please save your money! I went to this salon two days ago to get blonde highlights. I showed the stylist a picture where it was more of an ombré look as I have medium brown hair and was concerned about it looking awful when my roots started to show. I was expecting her to paint on the highlights as my hair is pretty thick. She opted for foils. I was in the chair for 3 HOURS. I wasn't facing the mirror during the process so I didn't see that she only foiled 1/2 -3/4 of each strand. The final result looks like color that's been growing out for months. It's not at all blended with my natural color. It's also all uneven so there's a noticeable zig zag on my head. I wear pounds of makeup everyday but the ONE day I have off and decide to not wear makeup, I went shopping at Ulta in Freehold. I had already been to Sephora and Macy's Beauty and another beauty store in the Freehold mall. I was greeted at every one and expected the same at Ulta. However I was not. Instead of being greeted by a person willing to help me I was greeted with stares and judgments made by the girls who were working. I know I didn't have makeup on but that should not be a reason to judge a customer who has money to spend. I blew off the dirty looks and shopped on my own, which is kind of hectic in a beauty store. I was on a mission of Anastasia Brow Wiz and when I finally found it I didn't even know what color to buy and looked around helplessly for anyone to give me advice. No one did. I even made eye contact with the worker who just looked me up and down and walked away. I ended up getting a color too light for me. When I got to the register the girl behind the counter was even worse. She judged every purchase I made and asked me over and over if I was sure I even wanted these products. I knew what I was buying so yes I did obviously want them and yes I was going to wear them. She called for help and started talking about me with the other girl RIGHT INFRONT OF ME. I will never shop a Ulta in Freehold ever again, especially without makeup on. The girls made me feel so ugly. read more
