I waited in line behind an older customer that was obviously having a more complicated issue that the only cashier was trying to troubleshoot. After 2 different employees came up to check on this cashier without acknowledging the line, I asked if they could open up another register. The employee replied "sure! We just don't really have anyone to open a register" When I mentioned that she and the other employee could open up, she replied "Well, we're managers, her and I." Surprised, I asked "oh, managers don't run registers?" She answered "we do, she's walking to the back though and we're working on other things." And the one walking to the back was clearly taking a phone personal phone call. Best part of it all? They continued to let the line wait after that. Upper management/corporate should probably check in on their store to make sure employees and customers are being taken care of appropriately by these "managers" read more

Don't come here if you're in a hurry. Unless it's midweek at like 2 in the afternoon, there's always a long line and nothing is organized. I will say though, the wide selection of products often makes me brave the line. *note, some of the premium brands available online are not available at this store. read more

Superior experience! I was helped by a taller girl, I believe she said her name was Amy. I was hearing her talk to another customer and I waited on her. She knew exactly what she was talking about and helped me pick my perfect shade of foundation and was very friendly and made my overall experience a great one! I wish stores had more people like her. read more

I've never had very good customer service at this location. Most of the cashiers are not very professional and are too quick to give their opinion about what you're buying. often items are listed as on sale but they never ring up as such and it's a big deal to get the right price read more

I have never posted a yelp review before, but I wish there would have been a review like this before I decided to try out a haircut at Ulta. I asked for long curtain bangs, like the blonde reference photo, and now have some sort of super short chopped up bangs. When I told the stylist it was much shorter than what I asked for and not at all blended, her response was "yeah I tried curtain bangs on my daughter and they look funky too." I feel terrible posting, but I would have liked a heads up because there's nothing that can be done now. Another salon was able to even it out a bit, but there wasn't much left to be saved with my bangs and they had to take two inches MORE off to even out the back. I am honestly heartbroken my hair was so poorly cared for during this cut (the last photo was my hair before the cut). I will update that the manager offered to refund what I paid, which was much appreciated. read more

Absolutely horrible. Literally the worst Ulta I've ever experienced. Don't waste your time, go somewhere else. No one gives a darn about their customers in the store, except for one of the aestheticians. Nothing is ever in stock. There is no standard of customer service. Although after meeting and having interaction with the salon manager and the floor manager I completely understand the lack of standard. They appear to be insecure, uncared for, unprofessional, vulgar slobs. All the employees are permitted to leave drinks trash food wrappers anywhere they please. (Especially since none of the trashcan's even have liners in them.) I have personally traveled to Ulta is around the country. I have utilized all of their services and been a faithful shopper. I will never return to this one. read more

I didn't catch her name, but I am so glad I got help from the woman up front on the makeup side of ulta. My skin was chronically dry & everything I was doing to hydrate it seemed to be backfiring. She helped me re-set my skincare & makeup routine just with 4 new items. My skin was happy within a day or 2, & feels & looks so much better! She helped me find products based on my preferences, budget, & situation. Even though she couldn't try makeup on me in the store for shade, she was able to pick the correct makeup products just by looking at me & encouraged me to exchange anything that wasn't a good match. Thank you so much for getting my face out of the winter funk!!! read more

Noelle at the Brow Bar is the BEST! She's the reason I keep returning to this store, and I always end up leaving with the best looking brows ever and a bunch of other goodies because you can't leave ULTA without doing some shopping! If you want to have gorgeous brows, ask for Noelle! read more

EVERY time I come to this Ulta I am disappointed. There is NEVER anything stocked. Ultimately I leave the store empty handed and have to go somewhere else. The shelves are DISGUSTING! And there is stuff thrown everywhere all times that I've been there. I honestly don't know how district & store managers still have their jobs. read more

Not sure how every other Ulta is, but the salon inside the Asheville Ulta at the mall has been a great experience. Ive been coming here over four years now and working with the same hairdresser the entire time. I highly recommend Brandon and the rest of the salon team. You wont more attentive mens & womens stylists for the price in Asheville. I'm in the Rewards program and what i spend in the salon counts towards points for product in the store. Honestly, my wife takes the points and uses them for makeup, lipstick and eye cream. I also sent my wife in here for her bridal makeup and the experience was wonderful as well! read more

I first heard of Ulta Salon because I'm one of those people that compliment a stranger's hair then ask where they got it done. I've been given the answer Ulta Salon several times more than any other salon in town. My thoughts have always been a mixture of apprehension because it's in the mall and impressed because the haircuts I've seen have always been really good. It was a Sunday and not many salons are open on Sunday so I thought I would scour yelp for salons that were open. I had first called a prominent west Asheville salon that was open but they put me on hold three times and then hung up on me when they decided I couldn't possibly be on hold anymore. I was not detered I wanted a change. No, I needed a change. It was time to change my hair and I didn't want to wait anymore. So I called Ulta. They answered, they were nice, I wasn't put on hold three times and they had an opening with one of their senior stylist. It is definitely a strange space. There's no privacy when getting a haircut. But the team of stylists are friendly and hilarious which is a nice distraction from the beauty store shoppers. Listening to them banter made me wish I worked with them. The shampoo was done in a room a bit more private than the hair salon. The scalp massage that comes with the wash was phenomenal. Oh my god I would pay just to have them wash my hair. My plan was to unburden the locks I've been growing for the past five years and donate them. I had a few short styles I've been eyeing. The stylist Brandon looked at them with me and we talked about my plans. He was very nice and helpful. He understood I wanted bangs from one hairstyle and the cute layered look of another one. They braided my hair and lopped off 16" right to my shoulders. When I looked in the mirror I decided I loved the shoulder length he had initially cut it to. He agreed to change plans on the fly and he gave me a creative blend of layers and length and I am ecstatic with the results. My hair feels light, healthy, there is movement in the style and lots of body from the layers. I can't thank Brandon enough for unburdening my head and giving me an updated fresh look that I absolutely adore. read more

The layout of the store is pretty nice, but every time I come here and interact with a cashier, they make me feel like I'm "bothering" them. Super stuck up. It's like if you don't wear a full face of makeup and false lashes you don't belong there. Makes me super uncomfortable. read more

My poor husband made the mistake of going into Ulta at the Asheville mall to pick up some surprise gifts for me. He could not find anyone willing to help him and said when he approached the staff they got busy with other things. Once he found someone who could not escape his request for assistance she spoke down to him and "pointed" him in the direction of what he wanted! I only take the time to write this because the EXACT same thing happened to me last evening when I bought myself a birthday gift there! The staff could not be more disinterested and rude. I had an appointment for today made a week in advanced and they called me the same day to cancel it with the excuse that they didn't have enough time to do my hair. They assumed that I had a dark hair without even looking at me in person. I have done balayage before and on my hair and the process never takes more than 2 and a half hours. They now have requested to reschedule because they screwed up their scheduling. Kristan had a rude and unprofessional response when I questioned her canceling my appointment on such short notice. She was not at all willing to work with me and said she will not stay long enough to do my hair(even though I had an appointment scheduled one week out). read more

Went in to get my eyebrows "done." They were dyed and waxed. While not thrilled with the results - maybe not their fault; didn't have much to work with - I am concerned about the quality of the products that were used in the process. My eyelids were sore when I left and I assumed that was normal because of the waxing. But it only got worse. Went home, washed my face to get any products off, and it didn't help. It's been almost 24 hours and it's actually worse. The creases over my eyelids are sore and irritated and slightly swollen. Either the waxing was done too low or the product used to "clean" my eyes was an irritant. I'm hoping it will get better soon, very painful right now. read more

I give this place the worst of reviews. I came into have my hair colored. They burnt my hair so bad that I lost most of my hair. I looked like a cancer patient. Had to have most of my hair cut off. To even it out. No I look like a man. When I called to get them to resolve the problem. They said they couldn't help me. Imagine like most women there hair is there look. I hate my look I hate that they would even refund my money back. The hair dresser said if I was there hour more. I would have to pay her 400.00. When I got a estimate it was only 150.00 at the most. I like to shop at Ulta, but the associates have become so rude and unfriendly, that I think I'll be ordering on line or shopping elsewhere. My friend and I went there and she was specifically looking for a Clinique eye lash primer, that she had previously purchased at Ulta. The associate, which was only standing and talking to another associate, seemed very irritated that we dare ask her if they had the product in stock. She briskly walked to the Clinique display, said this is the only mascara we carry. I asked if she knew if Belk was having a free gift with a Clinique purchase. She answered "I don't know, I don't work there!" I don't know would have been sufficient - I could have done without her rudeness. She made sure to not make eye contact again, in case we might need to ask her another question. I went with the intention of buying several things, but left empty handed. Ulta, please give your Asheville store associates some coaching on how to be professional and how to deliver excellent customer service. Customers expect nothing less! read more

I had my bridal hair styled by Felicia and my formal make-up done by Caroline. They were both extremely nice and took their time making sure I was happy with their work. At first I was very nervous because I'm from out-of-town and had never met either of them, but after speaking to Felicia on the phone when I made the appointment, I knew they would take care of me. Went into Ulta with my mother-in-law & witnessed her experience. She had a nail remedy bought there called NailTek but didn't have the receipt since she'd bought it nearly 3 months earlier. She had to use the product that long to make it work! It didn't work!!! The sales clerk went through the motions of a return. Then sign a receipt for return of $15+ dollars. Turns out her refund would be .77 cents! Since she didn't have receipt -- although she was in their computer system. The small change was an insult so she told clerk to keep the product & she left the store. This kind of customer treatment will eventually get around with the other negative experiences of others that have been in social media. read more

This store is awful. The staff has no knowledge of makeup, the shelves are always trashed, and never have products in them. I went in looking for a full coverage foundation I asked the young women what her recommendation would be and she took me to the skin care area and told me to look there. She clearly had no knowledge of makeup at all. To add to my frustrations of this store they never have products. I'll ask when shipments will be arriving and come the day they say. When there are still no products on the shelves they blame me for coming too late in the day and they were all sold out. I find it hard to believe that in a matter of a few hours that this store would sell out of 10 foundations. The only reason this store is still in Business and can get away with treatment of customers this way is because there's no other place to buy higher end make up in the Asheville area. read more

Today I had my hair cut by James King. I was being spontaneous needing a hair cut ASAP... I typically have not found any hair stylist that could work with my curls, guide me in style ,and make me feel comfortable with the ongoing challenges that I have had with describing my desires for the perfect hair cut. James was exceptional! He took great time to listen and had great finesse with his approach! In 3 years in Asheville and with hair cuts in all the best salons- I have yet to find such a gifted stylist. Hooray for James! I'll be back! Hi I went to Ulta for a hair cut based on word of mouth recommendations for Stylist James. I just turned 57 and had neglected my appearance for years! At my age, letting my hair grow, untrimmed, uncolored had aged me at lease 10 years (seriously). I walked out of Ulta transformed. My energy shifted, I felt worthy of completing my new spring make over~ I could never have imagined such a dramatic change from 'ugly' to 'woman with potential' (and a great hair cut)! I love this place to buy any cosmetics because if you join their rewards program you get points. They pretty much always have some kind of good sale going on and if not there's at least a coupon in their flyer. The employees are always there to help and they're fast too. Also, the salon is awesome, particularly Brandon. His prices are a little steep but it's well worth it. He does an excellent job on my haircuts. read more
