I have been going to Salon Dragonfly for 10+ years now and absolutely love the vibes/atmosphere and most importantly the people. They are all super experienced so I'd feel comfortable in any of their hands but I personally have been depending on Caitlin for many years now. Caitlin is extremely professional and personable. I have extremely thick hair and a lot of it and Caitlin is always super patient and accommodating. She doesn't try to rush through it, she LISTENS to what you want/are looking for, gives her input if wanted, and takes it to the next level- every single time it looks beautiful! I usually go every 4-5 months for touch ups, haircuts, toner, and Olaplex treatments. I am never disappointed and always feel great when leaving the salon. read more

My experience from a year ago, and I felt I needed to share in case anyone is trying to get lighter hair - this is not the place. Unless you want darker hair, do come here in hopes of lightening. My experience here was extremely disappointing and, unfortunately, one I will never forget. I came in with a very simple request: I wanted my hair lightened. Instead, the stylist assigned to me dyed my hair darker--the exact opposite of what I had asked for. What should have been a straightforward two- or three-hour appointment turned into a seven-hour ordeal that caused significant damage to both my hair and my wallet. Once the owner realized that my hair had been darkened rather than lightened, I was subjected to an even more aggressive bleaching process in an attempt to correct the mistake. By that point, I was already distressed and concerned about the condition of my hair. What upset me most was the complete lack of accountability. Not once did I receive a sincere apology for the error, the excessive processing, or the inconvenience. From my perspective, both the stylist and the owner seemed more focused on moving past the situation than acknowledging the stress, wasted time, and damage caused. I was left sitting in the salon until after dark while they attempted to correct a mistake that never should have happened in the first place. To make matters worse, I was charged additional money, yes they charged me MORE to destroy my hair, because the owner had to assist with fixing the color correction. I came in with beautiful golden-brown grow-out that I specifically wanted to preserve, and I left with hair that had been darkened, over-processed, and then aggressively bleached in an effort to reverse the mistake. The entire experience left me feeling frustrated, upset, and taken advantage of. I lost an entire day, spent far more money than expected, and walked away with damaged hair and no meaningful acknowledgment of responsibility from the salon. Needless to say, I never returned and would not trust this salon again. The lack of accountability and customer care was, from my perspective, the most disappointing part of the entire experience. read more

The sign caught my eye! I am a lover of dragonflies!! I am in town for the summer working and desperately needed to feel good about myself...especially my hair! From the second the owner answered my call at 9:03am...I felt special! She was genuine, polite and professional! I got an instant appt for the next day. The atmosphere and decor was so relaxing and positive!!! Just about every stylist in the place took a look at me and gave their professional opinion and went to work!!! The ladies worked so well together and I sensed the great respect they had for each other! I love as so satisfied and happy after spending my afternoon there! The wine was wonderful, the rescue kitten melted my heart and THE PRICE WAS RIGHT for tje magic they performed!! Never to late to give a big shout out. My daughter and I have been going to Dragon salon for years. My daughter wanted her hair dyed for the first time which she picked the color blue, did not realize how long it would take. Caitlin stayed after close to finish her hair with out making us feel rushed, so sweet. Jen made me extra comfortable with a lovely beverage. Never disappointed. Keep the great work up ladies. see yall soon! read more

My friend and I were in town for a girls weekend and after going to another salon for blowouts, I left looking like I stuck my finger in a socket. It was horrible. Cue Danielle to the rescue. She stayed late to help myself and my friend out and we left with perfect hair. She was amazing and had us laughing the whole time. Jen also hung out with us and was incredible. If I was a local, I would definitely go back to them. They felt like friends and really helped us in a pinch. Highly recommend. read more

I went from hair stylist hell to heaven with the first cut with Caitlin. It was long and she put in layers so it scrunched wavy perfect for my hair. The second time I trusted her to take it short. I brought a picture that was my best stab but said I wanted more volume than that. She NAILED IT like she read my mind. My hubby and I are both delighted! (He likes short but I want hair while I still have some!). Never leave Asheville, Caitlin! read more

Brooks is an absolute hair MAGICIAN She's been my go-to since moving to Asheville. She's super sweet, knowledgeable, and so insanely skilled when it comes to hair color. I've referred so many people to her and intend to keep doing so! Also, price-wise, I feel that she's so fair. I paid double in FL what I pay for at Salon Dragonfly. Just be prepared to spend the day there if you have long, thick hair like me. Beauty takes time! read more

How do I put this? ONE OF THE TOP 2 HAIRCUTS I HAVE EVER GOTTEN IN MY LIFE. I have long, thin, straight Asian hair. To play it safe, I let it grow long in length with long layers. For the past 2 years, I've been playing with the idea of a long, A-line bob. I asked my previous hair stylist his opinion and he wanted me to keep my long hair, so I kept it. Since I recently moved to Asheville, I knew it was time to get a cut before an important interview and before Chinese New Year (hey, why not). My friend had heard Salon Dragonfly was great and as luck had it, a Groupon was available! Today I walked in and was greeted by a friendly smile and the wonderful smell of Moroccan Oil. I love Moroccan Oil. I feel like the best stylists keep Moroccan Oil on their shelves. Hope was my amazing stylist today. I showed her pictures of Pinterest photos of the kind of long bob I was wanting and she understood. She gave me great feedback on how to achieve the slant depending on the lengths from the back to the front. She washed my hair, gave me a great head massage, and did her thing. I LOVE stylists that just get in their zone. It's creative and fun. She also taught me how to to style my hair because I didn't know how to before. Girls, if you do not know how to style your hair... ask your stylist. Finally, I can sweep my bangs the way I wanted them to after 10 years. I love, love, love my new cut! I just hope I learned Hope's lessons well in styling my hair! I just want to flip it all around because it just looks great no matter where the strands fall! PERFECT. Thank you Hope! read more

I love supporting small business but I also appreciate honest reviewers when I need a recommendation. Let me just say there was a reason why they had openings and the other salons were booked up. Maybe was just one bad experience but then again maybe not. I will never go back to find out. Do your hair a favor and plan ahead to book elsewhere if possible. read more

Hope is amazing! As a biracial woman it can be SO hard to find stylists or salons that specialize in curly hair for women of color. I found this salon because Hope is a Devacurl certified stylist and she gave me the best haircut and style I've ever had. I have never felt so confident and happy with a haircut or style in my life! She listened to my concerns, looked at photos I had brought with what I was hoping to go for and completely gave me exactly what I wanted. She also not only styled my hair, but went through step by step with what products she was using to help me create this look on my own. I loved the energy of the salon and everyone was so caring and nice. Thank you Hope and the Salon Dragonfly team for the amazing experience!! read more

Salon Dragonfly - Thanks Christa! - Hair Salons Near Me - Asheville, North Carolina

Absolutely the beat salon in Asheville!!! Best haircut possible!!! I Love Salon Dragonfly!!!!

Brooks was awesome! I generally wear my hair plain Jane, but wanted something more professional and grown up. She talked me through her vision, worked carefully, and explained what she was doing all along the way. She also explained the products she was using, and incorporated a great deal of information about haircare while doing so - I feel like the lesson itself was worth the amount I paid for the cut. My hair feels healthy and looks great with minimal styling. Can't wait to go back and see her again in 8 weeks! read more

DEAR HAIR STYLISTS: DO NOT EVER TURN YOUR CHAIR AROUND SO THE PERSON CANT SEE HOW MUCH HAIR YOURE CUTTING OFF!!!! brooks chopped off like 10 inches of my hair without my approval... I have a very difficult hairstyle to work with. So it isn't entirely brooks fault but.. The hair style I received was the exact oppasite of what I asked for. And when I stated that, she laughed and joked about it right in my face.. Long story short I'm better off cutting my own hair from now on.. Such a let down. Not worth the money. read more

This salon is absolutely amazing!!! Great customer service and so helpful. I did a boxed blue hair dye kit at home and could not get the color out on my own, after weeks of shampooing. Caitlin and Brett helped get my blue out of my hair!! They were so patient and so helpful. I am originally platinum blonde, and I was able to get back to my blonde self after a few natural treatments. They did not use any bleach, strippers or harsh chemicals... I was so worried because my hair is so blonde and fine, but they hooked me up! If you need a color correction this is THE place to go!! They are beyond amazing, so helpful, and so sweet! read more

Amazing! The owner, J, and her crew were so accommodating and skilled. My daughter dyed her hair blue and it would not come out! Caitlin and Brett accepted the challenge (when other salons would not) and spent over 5 hours doing a color correction. They were so knowledgeable and patient. And the result was fabulous! Thank you to the owner and staff. GO SEE THEM, you will be happy! read more

my exact words were "as long as i leave blonde" and after disregarding my first request for balayage so y jaír could grow out, they left toner in my hair for 15+ minutes which left my hair BLUE. I HAVE BLUE HAIR NOW INSTEAD OF BLONDE. the price really reflects the quality.... my head hurt by the end from all the pulling and slapping, no regard for how to process felt on my head. took more time to talk to friends than to check on me. $200+ just to be putting dishwashing detergent in my hair to try and get the toner out. really disappointing. read more

I come in every two weeks for hair trim and eyebrow cleanup. Jen and staff are always warm, welcoming, professional, and do an amazing job. The salon is convenient to everything downtown, usually have hair cut then walk for lunch and exploring/enjoying downtown. Feels like home when you are here. If you are in need of haircut, waxing, makeup, stop in and give salon dragonfly a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

A friend recommended Brett to me and he gave me one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time. He shared with me he has 15 years experience and it shows. He listens, he's knowledgeable about different hair types, easy to talk with and very good at what he does! Love my haircut and will definitely go back to Brett. read more

I went here for a cut, thinking their $5 off for walk-ins sounded helpful. I questioned the man at the front desk about pricing, and he was a bit vague, stating that it depended on the stylist, but he gave me a ballpark range of $35 to start without a blow dry. My hair is short and I like it short, so it takes little time to dry - no blowdry necessary. When I went to the stylist station, I realized the guy who'd been at the front desk was the person doing my hair... Come on, like he couldn't tell me how much he charged, himself, for a freaking cut? During the course of our conversation as he cut and cut my hair I was talking about how difficult it's been trying to find a good stylist. He commented that he knew that, and as he'd just moved back to town after being gone for a while, his former clients were all oohh so glad he was back. As he was finishing my hair, the owner told him some people had come to see him specifically, so he finished my haircut quickly. The cost of my cut - without blow-dry, remember- was $45, and I suppose that included my $5 off? I asked, but I guess they didn't hear me because they ignored the question. I suppose I should have been less of a doormat. I made a tentative appointment for my next cut, but was pretty sure I wouldn't keep it. When I called to cancel that appointment, I decided to ask about pricing. I was told that the cost of the haircut depends on the amount of time a stylist spends cutting it. I have never heard of an hourly salon like this. Overall, I was pleased with my haircut for the most part, though I had to tell him to do the sides shorter once, and likely I would have preferred it even shorter still, but he was rushing to get done to fit in these other walk-ins. The ambience of the salon is not great; it's dark and gloomy and as one other person commented in this thread, you get the idea that they just want to make money... My hair guy said, "what products would you like to buy." "Um, none, I have some at home" I said. Earlier he had mentioned that the key to a really good hairstyle is in the products you use.Huh, funny, I thought it was the cut. But maybe that's just me. As well, I was offered some tea at the start of my appointment, but never received it. This was my least-pleasant experience since 2 years ago at Beauty Parade, which was beaten only by a $12 haircut at a chain store in 2000. So... Don't go there, don't believe the sign that offers discounts to walk-ins. It seems like they just jack up the cost to be the equivalent of pretty much most other salons in the area. Sooooo not worth your time. read more

HIGHLY recommended!!! I have been here twice and both times I have been so happy! The first, Hope gave me a great haircut and went out of her way (including doing research) to figure out how to best achieve the look I wanted. She was friendly, invested and did a great job! Today, Adam did my hair and I left telling him this might be the best my hair has every looked! He listened carefully- I asked for a "bronde" balayage. My hair is naturally a light brown/dark blonde, and I wanted to brighten my hair without the upkeep. He ensured to give me what I wanted...and then some! I love it. It is a nice beachy blonde. Its not quite as bright as I may have initially anticipated BUT I think I love it even more! Adam didn't tone my hair bc the color came up nicely, which saved me $30. I appreciate that he didn't just do it anyways for the extra charges (which he totally could have and I wouldn't have known the difference). Adam also took the time to show me how to curl my hair using a flat iron because I am incompetent when it comes to having long hair. It was a perfect balance between engaging/fun conversation with Adam and a time for me to relax. Additionally, everyone who works there is super friendly!!! Thank you everyone, especially Adam and Hope, for everything! read more

Brooks was fabulous, really listened to what I wanted, which was Florida blond highlights and a hot trim to my shoulder length hair. Now I have volume! Eek! Methinks nope. I had to sign a waiver before sitting in my stylist's chair, that should have told me to walk-out. I've been in chair's from Great Clips to Cheap Cuts, from Madison Ave, NY to Beverly Hills, CA and I've never had to sign a waiver for service. Except that my stylist was sweet and chatty, nothing about his cut or color said experienced, quality or "salon." Very pricey. read more

I am horrible remembering names but I can tell you that this salon is one of the two best I have ever been in. Both men and women are clients there, very comfortable atmosphere, very good artistic and unique work. My hair was a complete mess and I am a true witness that now it is amazing. Trust me and this salon... you will never be disappointed. Adults are all I have seen here and that is a relief. read more

They have a sign on the sidewalk that encourages walk-ins, so I decided to give them a try. They said they would give me a style if I could wait 30 minutes, which I did. I rarely write reviews but I am so beyond pleased with my experience. Caitlyn (sp?) was amazing. I have literally never been happier with a hair color!! Prices say NYC or SF upscale, but it wasn't. CON: Prices unclear, music is too loud, and stylists should brush teeth or chew gum or eat mints if you're going to be breathing/talking near client's face. And don't talk to me if I'm reading a book - not all clients need to be chatted up. PRO: It was a good haircut, but can get the same at somewhere else for cheaper. read more

The staff may be friendly but the time it takes for full highlights is a human rights violation. No one should be subjected to an experience of 6.5 HOURS to complete this appointment. 6.5 HOURS! Imagine what you can do in your life with 6.5 hours. This is reprehensible. And should be considered if they are running late in any way. I dropped off my fiancee at 1:30p and at 8:03p on a Friday I am still waiting for their staff to finish. Be warned. read more

i was a spontaneous 'walk-in' potential client. I asked if i could have a consultation for a possible hair cut one day, just getting opinions. I ended up talking w/ the owner,Jay. She was a bit too hard sale and I definitely felt pressure to get my hair done immediately. She was promoting Deva Curl products and hair cut. Next thing I knew I was buying products and having my hair cut -spending money that i did not have. I have naturally curly hair and given a healthy cut, decent products my hair looks exactly like it did when I left the salon. I did not have to spend $130. to achieve my curls looking good. And this time, my hair felt heavy and full of too many products Next day it felt worse! She also put me under a dryer (for too long burning my scalp, there were metal clips tight on my scalp, and feeling very uncomfortable) while she was no where to be found.I ended up getting out of the dryer on my own Tipping- i grew up in a salon family & owners were Not tipped. Non owners, pay a % of their fees to the owner so naturally you tip them should you wish. But i did feel pressure (again) at the register and I succumbed to adding a $10 tip. I felt that getting my hair cut by Jay under financial constraints was more than enough. She charged $60, (my hair was shoulder length) though she never mentioned the $5 discount given to first time clients. This may sound petty, but really I go to a salon to feel better about my self and know ahead of time how much $ I can spend .Additionally, I was never offered anything to drink or a magazine while under the dryer or anything like that-. The other women in the salon were very nice yet busy w/clients. and the salon was nice in appearance. however, I Will Not Return.I am new to Asheville, this was Not my typical experience of businesses and people from Asheville. read more

I will not return to this salon. Jen was absolutely the best part of my experience - very friendly and helpful. However, the salon owner, Jay, was so rude to me that I would not consider returning. I scheduled appointments for my husband (fiance at the time) and myself to get pedicures/manicures the day before our wedding. Jay scheduled us an hour before the nail technician ever even comes in - so we started out by just waiting for over an hour. The day before our wedding....I had places to be. While we were there, she found out we were getting married and starting making remarks regarding how I should really do something with my hair before our wedding (!). I had gotten it cut previously at the other Aveda salon in Asheville, Pi Salon Spa, so I had been seeing a professional and cared how I appeared, not to even mention the added pressure of the wedding. I had also previously called to cancel an appointment with them, spoke with Jay on the phone, she said she took care of it. When we showed up for our nail appointment the girl thought we had just not shown up, as Jay hadn't actually taken care of it. Again, if you deal with Jen I think you should be fine. But honestly, going to this place did absolutely nothing for my self-esteem and caused a lot of agitation, rather than relaxation. She was really hurtful. I'm a positive person and like to give people a chance, but....no. It was just too much rudeness from the owner. read more

After my hairstylist that I had been seeing for years left town, I put off getting a haircut as long as possible. My friend had been coming here for awhile and convinced me to come with her. I was very nervous as I've had some bad haircuts in the past! However, I was lucky enough to have Adam as my stylist yesterday. I don't think I've ever been happier with a salon experience! I have curly and sometimes hard to manage hair, but Adam cut it perfectly. It hasn't air-dried this well...ever! He also did an ombre with pink on the bottom of my hair, and it turned out better than I could have hoped for! He listened to exactly what I wanted and gave his professional opinions about how to make it work best for me. I ended up keeping him late as I wasn't aware how long the process would take and should have made an earlier appointment, but he was more than accommodating and pleasant about that. Not to mention the fact that he was just great to talk to and made the lengthy dying experience (I have very dark hair & it had to be bleached as well) enjoyable. I will be telling everyone I know to come to Salon Dragonfly and ask for Adam. Thank you Adam! ( I would give six stars if possible!) read more

After purchasing a Groupon for a shampoo, cut & style, I made an appointment. My hair is short. I took pictures of what i wanted. Brooks began cutting my hair dry with texturizing shears. I told her that has never worked well on my hair. She ignored me and kept cutting. Finally, I got a shampoo, no conditioner, which is customary at most high-end salons, I was very clear in communicating my expectations, but regardless of what I said, she did what SHE wanted to do while telling me she WAS doing what I asked. I was not at all pleased with my hair and was just eager to leave this place. It was my first time and I will never go back. I am now looking for another salon.
