Sadly my intuition turned out to be correct and I'm walking out of here completely heartbroken. Instead of directly telling me she didn't want to color my long hair, Amy Hood insinuated multiple times that it would take too long and that she'll have to cut it. Like actually being so discouraging the entire time. When I pointed out that it sounded like she didn't want to work with hair as long as mine, she acted clueless and denied it. I'm so confused bc I would be paying her for her time so why be so discouraging? It took a lot of trust and courage to consider having my waist-length virgin hair worked on, and I'm heartbroken to actually be gaslighted while I'm just trying to get answers and have an honest discussion about my hair. I've never left a salon just to cry in my car before, and I've never had a stylist treat me this way. read more

The was the WORST haircutting experience I have ever had in my life with the owner GUADALUPE CHAVARRIA. This experience happened more than 2 years ago, and I haven't been able to find it within myself to say anything about it until now because of how TRAUMATIC it was. I admit I showed up 15 minutes late to my appointment--a mistake on my part. However, Guadalupe's response was TERRIFYING: he literally used his comb so AGGRESSIVELY that he RIPPED OUT MY HAIR leaving my hair SEVERELY DAMAGED. What was even more damaged than my hair was my spirit. I was in such shock at his behavior that I became like a deer in the headlights and felt frozen through the entire experience. The situation was so strange and aggressive that I just had no way to prepare or know how to deal with it, so I just went into survival mode and froze. I would go so far as to say that this experience was TRAUMATIC. I literally started crying as soon as I left the salon and was shaken up over it for about a week afterwards. He said he had been having a bad day, so I guess I was the straw that broke the camel's back. Still, that is no excuse for his AGGRESSIVE and dare I say VIOLENT and ABUSIVE behavior toward me. I live in Waynesville and my previous stylist from Asheville moved so I've been on the hunt for two years for a new stylist. She did EXACTLY what I asked, plus put her own awesome touches on it. Guadalupe is an absolute artist and I have never had a better experience at a salon in my life. I felt as though I had known him for years almost instantly. He is extremely honest, kind, and most importantly he is genuine. Guadalupe came in on his day off to cut and color my hair. He transformed my black mop into a platinum pixie in just a couple of hours. My own mother now travels three hours every couple of weeks to get her hair done by him because he is without a doubt the best of the best. read more

AMAZING! Went to Studio Chavarria for a color correction after a completely disastrous balayage job. The owner is literally a miracle worker and not only SAVED my hair and reversed the unfortunate condition it was in, but made it look better than pretty much any other color service I've ever gotten. Sleek but not an intimidating atmosphere. Art on display everywhere, friendly dog greets you at the door and the owner is funny and sweet. Kat gave me a natural looking balayage and wavy bob touch up cut and did a superb job. She was astute but relaxed and friendly. Fantastic communication and understood exactly what I wanted. I decided I wanted to come to this salon based on recommendations from friends, all of them loyal to different stylists. The service I was requesting required specific expertise, so it was suggested that I see Sam. And I could not be happier with my decision! She was able to give me a COMPLETE color transformation all while maintaining the integrity and health of my hair. Admittedly, the process was time consuming which makes me even grateful to Sam and the salon! She was sure to explain each step to me in depth so I was comfortable throughout the entire process. She understands how important a girls hair can be, and she used care and quality products to give me the color I wanted without the damage. The results are seriously amazing. Worth every penny! Now that I've gushed about my stylist, let's talk about the salon itself. For starters, the atmosphere is welcoming. You'll find art hanging on the walls, illuminated by a gorgeous chandelier. I started going to Studio Chavarria because I was following my hair stylist (Samantha Antaramian) and ended up staying here, even after Sam's departure, for Heather. Heather is the nail technician and she is beyond amazing. I get the shellac manicure which lasts *forever*. Depending on my mood (and budget) I can get away with going only once a month. Heather guarantees her work for the first week and is more than happy to fix any mess-ups free of charge. (But tip her for her time, would ya'?) She is always willing and eager to do fun nail art, which I love. The studio itself is charming and welcoming. They are always offering tea, coffee, water, and wine. I've never written a negative review on yelp but I wish I had a review like this to have saved me from the worst salon experience I've had. First, all over 1 color was $170....so with the tip, it was over $200. Even in high end salons in Houston, (4th largest city in the US) I've never paid that much. In fairness, I did not ask for the price prior to service, however I've been to several nice salons in my lifetime and anticipated it to be about $100-$125 MAX. During the color, Monica seemed in a hurry and combed through my hair which was tangled from the color very roughly. It was extremely uncomfortable...she was yanking it so hard it was literally pulling my head / neck down each time with me trying to hold it still. When she dried my hair, there was no effort to style it, just a rushed blow dry. The color was very nice but first time in my life I walked away from a salon without the "I just got my hair done / salon blowout look and feel) I would have given this one star...but because I take responsibility in not inquiring about the price prior to the service and because I liked the color, I'm giving it two. For future reference, I would suggest the hair stylist go over the pricing with the customer once a plan has been decided on. The high price was apparently justified because "you have a lot of hair" yes my hair is a little past my shoulders but it's super thin....there's not a lot there. If you're charging over $125 for just a (1) all over color (the EASIEST of the color jobs) inform your customer. I hope my review will help keep someone else from having such a horrible experience. I may haven't felt like I had been ripped off if the experience itself wasn't so unpleasant and she actually took the time to make it look nice before I got out of the chair. The service and treatment I got was worth $75 plus tip at best. It looks from other reviews that Chelsea is a good person to go to at this salon. I don't see Monica's name mentioned anywhere ..not surprised. It took courage to get on here and leave a negative review but people depend on these as I know I do. I'm sure I'm not the first unhappy customer, I'm hoping this review will make it less in the future. read more

Chelsea is an absolute queen. I've been searching for a stylist my entire adult life and have finally found her! She is so wonderful at really hearing what I want and communicating what is possible, I always walk out feeling like her results are even better than I hoped. I would especially recommend her if you are afraid of losing too much length. Currently I'm sitting in her chair for my first color process in roughly a decade, a fairly radical change, and it's a decision I absolutely would not have made without stumbling across someone so talented. I went here expecting transparency of pricing and a great freshen up of my just-above-the-shoulder length hair. I was expecting to pay $193 for cut, shampoo, and some color. When my stylist (Monica) asked about the color I was interested in from a swatch of options, I let her know somewhere in the middle of two colors. She never informed me at this point that my cut/color would end up with a significant increase in price to the tune of $293. I've never paid this much for a haircut/color in the South in my entire life. I can understand paying something this outrageous in a place like Honolulu or New York; but, never anywhere in this regional area. Needless to say, I will not be returning... and buyer beware of what you're getting yourself into with this place! read more

Got an excellent cut from Holly today. She cut my hair at a different salon during the summer and it was the best haircut of my entire life. I got so many compliments. So I did some investigative work to find her again and I'm so glad I did. I will continue to drive from Black Mountain to this salon because of her, and the generally good vibe at this place. One name is all you need to know: Chelsea! I am so thankful that other clients took the time to come review her on Yelp so that I could find my way to her. I have moved around a lot, living mostly in major cities like San Francisco, LA, Dallas, etc. These areas have no shortage of amazing salons. Coming to Asheville, I was so uneasy about who would do my hair exactly the way I like it. So after many hours of research, I decided to follow the reviews (and my gut) and schedule an appointment with Chelsea at Studio Chavarria. She happened to be available to chat for a few minutes on the phone the day I called for my appointment and we hit it off right away. She knew exactly what I wanted for my hair (even though I was not speaking in expert lingo) and on the day of, she did not disappoint!! She is adorable and from the minute you see her and her fabulous hair, you will feel at ease. She is professional, knowledgable, friendly and listens to what is important to you. My hair looks AMAZING!!! She suggested a couple things we could do to keep me from getting bored with my long hair and I loved her ideas. I'm stoked about my next appointment and can't wait to see her again! By the way, I definitely suggest calling asap to get an appointment. She has been discovered in Asheville so her schedule can be a bit full (definitely worth the wait if you have to go that route). Additionally, you'll love Studio Chavarria. I went to Hilary for a cut and color. At first, I was pleased with her work, even though her personality was a bit icy. The last few times I went to her, I was not happy with the color and the cuts were mediocre. When I called to reschedule I told the front desk that I was visiting my terminally ill father (my father is DYING) in another state but that I was not able to travel back to Asheville due to flooding causing road closures. The front desk girl said she didn't know if I could reschedule because Hilary had already had 3 cancellations the same day. She asked me to come in 2 hours later than the original time she'd offered me, RIGHT AFTER I TOLD HER MY FATHER WAS DYING and that I was stuck in another state! I explained AGAIN that I was not able to travel that day due to flooding on the highways. I let her and Hilary know I was willing to pay to have Hilary fix the hair color but Hilary called me back and said she would not be doing my hair anymore and that I needed to find someone else to do my hair. I have tipped her well and have been a pleasant customer for years but she made me feel as if I was being kicked out of a prestigious club. It was extremely insensitive of her to disregard the fact that I was caring for my dying father, and act like I was being shunned and KICKED out of her hair club. I know it can be frustrating to lose money from so many cancellations in one day, but to think of herself and not her customer is arrogant and cruel. Guatelupe is the owner and was fair and eager to make amends when I wasn't happy the last time Hilary messed up my hair. He agreed that she hadn't covered the gray and made sure I didn't have to pay for the repeat color service. I anticipate he would offer to make amends but that could make Hilary feel unsupported. On the other hand, I think his business and ethics are of supreme importance, regardless of the cruel and trite behavior of his stylist. The services Hilary offered were expensive (I spent up to $230 on my hair) but I would not complain if the result was exemplary. My feelings are hurt and I have ugly hair AND my Daddy is dying. It feels awful. I don't deserve to be "punished" by a stylist because I wasn't happy 2 of the 50 times she did my hair. The nail tech was AWFUL. I paid a bunch to get my nails done but the result was not good so I went back to get them fixed, she was so angry and spent the next 20 minutes ensuring that I felt the wrath of her disapproval. My friend even noticed how rude she was. She has been childishly rude to me ever since, avoiding eye contact, not responding to my polite attempts at repairing things despite me being kind and thoughtful. She made me uncomfortable every time I returned for other services. read more
