Buyer beware. My brother who is mentally disabled signed up for 1 month for a dollar, and submitted a written cancellation notice within the first month, having never used the gym due to his condition. When he tried to settle up, they cited that he needs to cancel 30 days before the next billing cycle and did not even pause the membership which he never once used when he submitted his cancellation notice. I signed up for my membership at the UFC gym in Hilo in January 2025 with the general manager Chris Matchniff. Chris reassured me the membership I was signing up for was months a month with no terms and can be canceled at any time. During signing, Chris continually talked and scrolled to the bottom of each contract section then would hand me the iPad to sign or initial. I never felt I had the choice to read the fine print and when I asked questions, he would again provide reassurance this is a no term, no obligation, month to month contract that can be canceled at any time without fees or additional monthly dues. Two months into the membership I went into the gym to cancel, after multiple episodes of becoming sick following my visits to the gym. Chris was at his desk, and I attempted to cancel my membership with him, but he passed my request to a staff member at the front desk. She had me sign a pin pad but was unwilling or unable to provide confirmation that my membership was canceled. Upon signing the pin pad, I had inquired about any final payment's dues. I was told I would be charged the next month's dues because I didn't cancel 21days before the billing cycle and the final months dues I paid at signing would not apply. So, if my membership was actually canceled, I am now paid up and a member of a gym I refuse to use for an additional two months. So much for the month to month no obligation membership the GM sold me on. I waited until Chris was done speaking with a customer then attempted to express my concerns. I was super intimidated at first but let's just say ADAM is the guy. He was so nice and easy to talk to about what my gym needs were. He set me up to try everything once which was the push I needed! Adam the personal trainer was amazing as well so knowledgeable and professional. We need more Adam's there. Staff is friendly and no one bothers you while your working out which is nice. I like the variety of the machines too. I do wish it was cleaner. Lots of dust , hair , and stuff built up in different areas around the gym. My son loves the ladies in the Kids Club. I feel comfortable leaving him there and he has fun. That gym is a toxic culture. I just left in tears because two giant mean guys aggressively told me to get off equipment. When I went to the manager to complain, he just walked away like I was some karen. These are big guys. I like this gym a lot! I don't really see the dirt and grime that people are complaining about in their comments. As with all gyms, it's best to disinfect before and after you use equipment. It is a large gym, lots of equipment, cool temperatures, and people of all kinds! I have never been bullied to get off equipment and am a woman in my 60's. I think it's pretty comfortable, especially during the day when it is not so crowded. The unlimited classes are great! B.J. Penn stops in now and then and is very personable. I have talked to him twice. If you really have justifiable complaints or are having trouble canceling your membership, I would let him know, personally, next time he comes in. He would NOT put up with any kind of bullying or inability to cancel. I agree with many customers that the music is a little loud and a bit too mainstream for me, but it's tolerable. I wear my own earbuds and listen to my own music. You might find a comparable gym on this island, but I don't think you would find one that's better. read more

If you are into a nightclub or casino vibe, then you might like this gym. Day or night, the music is blasting super loud that it's difficult to listen to your own headphones. Not everyone wants to listen to the same kind of music and my personal preference is to listen to podcasts. The one thing that I did enjoy was using the dry sauna, which usually had none or only one person. We joined in late December but I've had a change in jobs so I wasn't using the membership. In late January, I decided to cancel via email to customer service stated on their website who replied they forwarded the email to the gym. In early February since I didn't receive a response, I called customer service and it seemed to be an overseas call center and after waiting a while on hold I was told to call the gym directly. I called and spoke with a billing manager who canceled my membership but said I would still be charged for February. This was because she said it has to be canceled 21 days before the next billing date. I explained I tried to cancel since late January but was getting the run around from customer service. So she made the exception and said that I wouldn't be charged for February. Towards the middle of February, my husband decided he was not using his membership either, and wanted to cancel. At the same time, I noticed there were 2 separate bank charges for about $66 from UFC which didn't make sense because I had canceled my membership. So I called again and spoke with the same billing manager, who confirmed she already canceled my membership and I wasn't charged. She explained the other charge was for an annual maintenance fee. I asked for my husband's membership to also be canceled and a refund for the maintenance fee- he was not aware of it and didn't know why we were charged 2 months after signing up? She said she could cancel his membership (due to the 21-day rule he would still be charged for March) but she could not refund the maintenance fee. I asked to speak with the general manager and she transferred me to his line but I just got a voicemail. I left a detailed message requesting the refund of an annual maintenance fee since between my husband and I only technically had a membership for 1.5 months and I never received a call back. read more

Do not sign up! The gym is super nice and I loved the child care available. BUT. They make you sign up for a contract, (paying an "activation fee") and its impossible to cancel. I stopped going months ago, and asked them to cancel my membership right away. They said I need to give advance notice. So they wanted another month payment for me to cancel, which I didn't have. Since they wouldn't let me cancel, they kept adding monthly charges despite me not using it. Now they are threatening me with collections. The gym is nice the equipment is new. One thing I complained about is the women's bathroom. So dirty and smelly. Coaches are forcing you to sign up even though you already told them not to do it because of my schedule. Luckily they stop asking me. If you do want one-on-one go with Clarence his the best and he knows what his doing. I just can't sign up with him because of my schedule work and my school. People in the front are not that nice lol if you work with customers they should know how to give you customer service by smiling and acknowledging you your there. The sauna is nice but when people go inside they talk very loud the space is small. So you heard everything they said. Is annoying because you are there to relax and be in peace. Some women are naked in the sauna is kind of gross because they don't put on towels when they sit down. Some are lying down on the bench so some can't sit. I'm a champion membership and I'm gonna go down to the basic membership. Also, they owed me one session of one-on-one because the coach was flaking on me, and canceled the appointments so I stopped doing the one-on-one. I've been going to the gym every day since they've opened and I am so motivated to focus on my health. My friends have noticed that I've been working out with my toned muscles and energy. The other gym members are great as well!! I've met countless of gym members that share the same health and fitness goals. I had been enjoying going to this gym. However, the last couple of weeks I have noticed that an elderly, disabled, man in a wheelchair accompanied with his female nurse have been using the female locker room. The one time I happened to be in the locker room while they were in one of the shower stalls together. No water running so I'm not really sure what was going on in there. He is a man dressed as a man so it doesn't look like he's trying to pass himself as identifying as a woman. Regardless, he doesn't belong in the women's locker room. He should do the right thing, get a male to assist him and let us ladies have our privacy back. read more

The new UFC gym is great. I give trainer Kalani a 10 star if possible. He is such a qualified trainer, energetic, super nice, really knows his game and is caring and helpful plus he has a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile! I spent a lot of money for training which unfortunately I couldn't use it all because of personal reasons. One thing I didn't like was the gal in charge of the trainers never told me options on prices. She just looked at my wallet and said it's 3,000.00 or 1300.00 plus.??????? Never told me I could split the training with someone or any less number of training days. She also quickly rushed the computer sign up saying sign here, here & here without allowing me to read anything-especially the not refundable part. I never got a piece of paper in my hand, all thru an email. I recommend a print out and go home and think about it or you may have. Buyers remorse. The saving grace was Kalani. He was worth every penny even the un-refunded part as I had to cancel early. She also chased me around with some finger print BS which I refused to do. What for? You gave me a key fob so why a print? It was about time that Hilo gets an upgrade. I travel between Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi island so it is nice to have a gym that is accessible on both islands. It can get crowded, but the environment will keep you motivated. If their dumbbells were light on the end and heavy in the middle or vice versa, it might be less mixed up and more accessible. Dirty locker rooms, double and triple charging memberships, a manager who sits in massage chairs all day and is rude and does nothing. No help for refunds, slimy red mold in womens showers that is there for weeks, and full of big mounds of hair, janitor always mopping the sauna with super dirty water leaving it so stinky in the hot sauna it's unbearable to sit in. Has happened most the times I'm there. Even after telling employees multiple times by multiple people, they remain dirty and smelly, meanwhile massage chair manager listening to same oldies on repeat hearing same songs 4 times while working out cuz it's what he wants to hear cuz he doesn't like the usual gym music.... last time I checked we pay to be there. Sometimes pay triple what we are supposed to!!! It's not the massage chair managers spa day.... even though he does nothing there but sit in massage chair and if he works he complains that the rate your getting is too low and we shouldn't even be charging that little... so he sets us up to be triple charged? I was charged 3 times for my daughters membership in a week. Drained my account. Then nobody would help me. One said corporate would have to give refund and never did. Then everyone Said they don't have ability to refund. We are charged a 60$ yearly maintenance fee they say is for new equipment.... the elipticals have wires hanging from them, screens are busted, ect. On a positive note, the trainers and jujutsu coaches and kids coaches are awesome. They should be the managers. They dont sit in massage chairs all day long collecting a paycheck while we get our accounts drained. Coach Adam is great with the kids and adults. Coach Adrian is a great trainer. I wish the upper management cared about health and cleanliness and how regular patriots of the gym are getting robbed with no refunds. So many people have come forward expereincing the same issues with double and triple charging or charging for stuff they didn't authorize. Make it right! You took my grocery money! Your showers are disgusting. Your coaches should be managers. My daughter is gonna miss jujutsu because we have to cancel so we will stop being triple charged.
