The beef bowl in Yatai was so authentic that it made me recall my childhood, when I would eat it almost every week. The takoyaki was a bit too soft, but each one came with a big chunk of octopus and the topping was the same as the one I had in Japan. Besides the food, I also love the restaurant's decoration where you can see many Japanese anime characters and the old Japanese commercial signs hanging on the wall! In addition, I received THE BEST customer service in Barcelona from here!! The waiter was extremely polite and attentive. It has just become one of my favorite restaurants in Barcelona.

I had gotten my filling of tapas during my stay in Barcelona and needed a bit of palate cleanser with a hearty, flavorful bao filled with meat -- a bit like an Asian taco, if you will. I stood firm in my order despite it feeling like heresy as "ramen" is in the name of the restaurant and a quick look around me revealed that most of the tables were definitely enjoying their ramen. Still, with things like pad thai and kimchi on the menu, I felt like I had permission to indulge in my cravings. I dug into a starter of some chicken karaage (Japanese fried chicken) that came with some homemade teriyaki sauce on the side. The chicken was perfectly crispy and the teriyaki sauce complemented its flavor instead of being too overwhelming. But the order did seem a bit on the pricier side at €7.50, which is basically the same price as one of the baos, so I think I would've ordered an extra one instead. As for the baos, I got three: the pork, the chicken, and the shrimp. They all tasted very similar to each other -- the pickled cucumber and carrot on the pork and the sauces on the shrimp did most of the heavy lifting, so I barely tasted the difference in meat. There are other places that ofter this bao delicacy in Barcelona (my reco would be Boa Bao) so come to Koku Kitchen for the ramen and gyoza instead. I did appreciate the decor of the place, especially the flower placed in a brown apothecary-esque bottle and the dim, hip vibes of the bathroom.

Then the main dish I ordered spicy miso ramen and pad Thai.. Why I ordered pad Thai at Japanese restaurant in Spain? I have no idea. Presentation of ramen was good. Tasted the broth and I was confused because it tasted sweet and lacked in miso flavor and no spice what so ever. Ramen was cooked little al dente. Employee was nice enough to offer chilli.. So added about 4 spoonful and tasted little better. Over all the ramen was pure disappointment, probably the worst ramen I ate at a restaurant. Then the pad Thai.. Tiny little bowl only with shrimp cut in half on top. I thought I was disappointed with ramen but man... This dish was utter failure.. No way anything near pad Thai flavor. It tasted like egg fried noodle with shrimp on top. It lacked in so much flavor. So dinner was pretty sad.. I could not recommend this place to anyone.. And holy smoke 5.50 for side of kimchee.. I'm happy we got to come here for dinner though! Reservations were easy to make on their website online. 50€/person no show fee. It's located on the 23rd floor of the Nobu Hotel & the view is GORGEOUS! The food was also delicious. Nobu is always a great time & we had a blast. I have yet to have a bad meal at any of the Nobu's I have been to. We thought about getting the omakases at first (they have Original + Barcelona style) but they only come with 6 courses for the original & 7 courses for the Barcelona style, which was different from the last time we had omakase at their NYC Downtown location (~15 courses for $225/person). Here's what we ended up ordering: -papacito drink 18€ -La Brujita Caliente 18€ - tuna crispy rice 24€ - edamame 9€ - tuna tataki 29€ - salmon karashi sumiso 23€ - wagyu sliders 32€ (comes w/ two sliders) - toro w/ scallion maki 17€ - squid "noodles" 32€ - Chilean sea bass jalapeño miso 51€ The drinks were great! I personally had the passionfruit Papacito drink, which I had to get as a passionfruit lover. I didn't find it too sweet & it was just right. The la brujita caliente drink had a kick to it & tasted pretty strong, though neither drinks are what we typically would go for. *Tuna crispy rice: This was one of my favorite dishes! It's simple but tasted so good. Everything from the spicy tuna mix to the crispy rice cubes and the sauce were amazing. Everything complimented each other so well. I could've gone for another order! *Edamame: It was your typical order of edamame honestly. I thought it was complimentary the way our server asked us if we wanted some but I guess not haha. It's okay, edamame is always good while waiting for food! They have a salted version & a spicy version; we opted for salted. *Tuna Tataki: tangy & tasty goodness! Thick cuts of super fresh tasting tuna with the perfect sauce. We preferred this over the salmon tataki we also ordered. * Salmon Tataki: this dish tasted different from the tuna tataki due to the sauce base. This one had a wasabi miso sauce, which is great if you like wasabi! I personally liked it but if you don't like wasabi, you might not enjoy it as much. Thick salmon cuts! *Wagyu sliders: ALWAYS A HIT for us! These sliders were cooked perfectly, super juicy, and flavorful. One of our favorites. Would order again. *Toro w/ scallion roll: this roll just had seaweed, rice, toro, and scallion. No extra frills but tasted fresh and clean. *Squid "Noodles": I would NOT get this again, mostly because there were no noodles lol. This should be labeled "squid stir fry with vegetables" or something along those lines. Good flavor though & squid was cooked well. * Chilean Sea bass: Simply DELICIOUS! This is always one of my favorite entrees to order anywhere & they didn't disappoint with this dish here either.
